iQoo Neo 9 Series Confirmed to Launch in December, Design Teased

iQoo Neo 9 series is confirmed to launch in China very soon. It is said to succeed the iQoo Neo 8 lineup, which was unveiled in May this year. The series launched with a base iQoo Neo 8 and an iQoo Neo 8 Pro. The upcoming iQoo Neo 9 series was earlier tipped to launch in Q1 2024; however, the company has confirmed the launch timeline of the iQoo Neo 9 series. Meanwhile, the high-end iQoo Neo 9 Pro was reportedly spotted on a certification site.

In a Weibo post, iQoo confirmed that the iQoo Neo 9 series will launch in December this year. One of the iQoo Neo 9 models has been teased in the announcement with a red and white dual-tone design. The phone is seen with an IR blaster on the top edge and the volume rockers and power button on the left edge.

The iQoo Neo 9 model teased in the photo is seen to sport a dual rear camera unit. The sensors are placed in two separate rectangular cutouts with rounded edges arranged vertically on the top left corner of the back panel. The moniker of the handset is inked below the camera units and the brand name appears on the bottom left corner.

Meanwhile, a MySmartPrice report states that the upcoming iQoo 9 Pro model with the model number V2339A was spotted on China’s 3C certification site. The listing suggests that the phone will support up to 120W wired charging, similar to the preceding model. The report adds that the chargers listed with the model numbers V12060L0A0-CN and V12060L1A0-CN can deliver output at 15W, 18W, 66W, and 120W. They are also said to support 15W, 27W, 36W, 45W, and 100W outputs via USB Power Delivery and up to 100W charging through PPS protocol.

An earlier leak claimed that the base iQoo Neo 9 will sport a 6.78-inch display. Another report suggested that one of the iQoo Neo 9 models will likely feature a 1.49-inch Sony IMX920 50-megapixel primary rear camera sensor. The base iQoo Neo 9 is said to come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and could be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage. The iQoo Neo 9 Pro, on the other hand, is tipped to get a MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The models are likely to ship with Android 14-based FunTouchOS 14 or OriginOS 4 varying by region.

iQoo Neo 8 comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, while the Neo 8 Pro has a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chipset. The phones carry 6.78-inch 1.5K (2800 x 1260 pixels) AMOLED displays and 5,000mAh batteries with 120W fast charging support.

For optics, both iQoo Neo 8 models sport 16-megapixel front camera sensors. The iQoo Neo 8 series models are available in Night Rock, Match Point, and Surf colour options. The vanilla model was priced at CNY 2,499 (roughly Rs. 29,300) during launch for its 12GB + 256GB variant, while the iQoo Neo 8 Pro started at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 38,700) for its 16GB + 256GB variant.

Honor Magic 6 Series Tipped to Get 160-Megapixel Periscope Sensor, OV50K OmniVision Primary Camera

Honor Magic 6 series is expected to debut in the first quarter of next year. It is expected to include two models — Honor Magic 6 and Honor Magic 6 Pro. They are already confirmed to run on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The Honor Magic 6 smartphones were widely speculated to include a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. Now, a tipster hints at a notable shift in the camera specifications, saying Honor might opt for a lower resolution periscope telephoto lens instead. The Honor Magic 6 series is said to use a primary camera from OmniVision.

Tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) on Weibo claimed that the Honor Magic 6 series will feature a 160-megapixel periscope zoom camera, instead of a 200-megapixel sensor. The sensor might boast a 1/1.3-inch size. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 200-megapixel sensor also boasts the same size.

Meanwhile, the Magic 6 lineup is said to include OmniVision’s OV50K main sensor. This sensor could debut with the new LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology.

Honor’s Magic 6 lineup is expected to go official in the first quarter of 2024. They will pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC under the hood and come equipped with a deeper AI integration as well as upgraded satellite communication. The handsets will have a Magic Capsule feature resembling Apple’s Dynamic Island.

The Magic 6 series is said to come with upgrades over the Magic 5 series. The Honor Magic 5 and Honor Magic 5 Pro were unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona in February. The Honor Magic 5 series is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and pack triple rear cameras. The phones are backed by 5,100mAh batteries with 66W fast charging support. The Pro model has a 50-megapixel primary camera, while the vanilla variant has a 54-megapixel main sensor.

Infinix Hot 40i With 32-Megapixel Selfie Camera, Up to 16GB of RAM Launched: Price, Specifications

Infinix Hot 40i has been launched in Saudi Arabia. The company confirmed that the phone supports NFC connectivity in the region and is available in two storage variants. Though not listed yet on the official site, the handset is available for purchase on Amazon and Noon. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC paired with up to 16GB of RAM. The newly launched handset is equipped with a 50-megapixel dual camera unit and carries a 32-megapixel front camera.

Infinix Hot 40i price, availability

As per a post by the company’s Saudi Arabia unit, the Infinix Hot 40i is available with NFC connectivity. It is being offered in two variants – 4GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB priced at SAR 375 (roughly Rs. 8,300) and SAR 465 (roughly Rs. 10,300), respectively.

Although the post says that the Infinix Hot 40i is “available now,” at the time of writing this, the phone was still not listed on the Infinix Saudi Arabia website. However, it is listed on the Amazon and Noon websites in the country. It is available in Horizon Gold, Palm Blue, Starfall Green, and Starlit Black colour options.

Infinix Hot 40i specifications, features

Infinix Hot 40i features a 6.56-inch HD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC paired with up to 16GB of RAM including vRAM and up to 256GB of inbuilt storage. It also ships with Android 13 out-of-the-box.

For optics, the Infinix Hot 40i features a 50-megapixel primary sensor and an unspecified secondary sensor at the back alongside a ring LED flashlight. These three units are arranged in three separate circular slots within a slightly raised rectangular camera module on the top left corner of the back panel. The front camera is placed within a centred hole-punch cutout at the top of the display. It comes with a 32-megapixel sensor.

The Infinix Hot 40i packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W wired charging support. For security, the phone comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is likely placed on the power button on the right edge of the handset.

Since the model unveiled in Saudi Arabia carries ‘NFC’ with its name, as seen in the post shared by the company, it is speculated that there may be other Infinix Hot 40i models without NFC support. NFC allows short-range contactless data transfer and also allows contactless payments via apps like Google Pay and Apple Pay.

NASA-ISRO Working Together to Make India’s Space Station, Launch NISAR in 2024

Stepping up collaboration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration Administrator Bill Nelson on Tuesday said the US was open to helping India build its own space station.

On a visit to India, Nelson said the US and India were working on plans to send an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station by the end of next year, while the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch the state-of-the-art joint venture satellite with NASA — NISAR — in the first quarter of 2024.

Nelson met Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh here and discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the space sector.

“ISRO is also exploring the feasibility of utilising NASA’s Hypervelocity Impact Test (HVIT) facility for testing Gaganyaan module Micrometeoroid and orbital debris (MMOD) protection shields,” an official statement from the science and technology ministry said.

During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed US President Joe Biden’s offer to send an Indian astronaut to the International Space Station in 2024.

“The selection of astronaut is determined by ISRO. NASA will not make the selection,” Nelson said in an interaction with reporters here.

Nelson urged Singh to expedite the programme related to India’s first astronaut aboard a NASA rocket to the International Space Station.

NASA is identifying an opportunity in the private astronaut mission for Indian astronauts in 2024.

In response to a question, he said the US would be ready to collaborate with India in building the space station if it so desires.

“We expect by that time to have a commercial space station. I think India wants to have a commercial space station by 2040. If India wants us to collaborate with them, of course, we will be available. But that’s up to India,” Nelson said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked ISRO to aim to build an Indian space station by 2035 and land astronauts on the moon by 2040.

Built at a cost of $1.5 billion (nearly Rs. 12,500 crore), NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) is targeted for launch onboard India’s GSLV rocket.

Data from NISAR will be highly suitable for studying the land ecosystems, deformation of solid earth, mountain and polar cryosphere, sea ice, and coastal oceans on a regional to global scale.

ISRO has developed the S-band SAR which was integrated with NASA’s L-band SAR at JPL/NASA. The integrated L & S band SAR is currently undergoing testing with the satellite at the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru with the participation of NASA/JPL officials.

An official statement said ISRO and NASA have formed a Joint Working Group (JWG) on Human spaceflight cooperation and are exploring cooperation in radiation impact studies, micrometeorite and orbital debris shield studies; space health, and medicine aspects.

ISRO is also in discussion with prominent US industries (like Boeing, Blue Origin, and Voyager) on specific items of cooperation and also to explore joint collaborations with Indian commercial entities.

A concept paper on the Implementing Arrangement is under consideration between ISRO and NASA. After a few iterations, both sides arrived at a mutually agreed draft and the same is processed for intra-governmental approvals, the official statement said.

Chinese Group Alipay Said to Have Sold 3.4 Percent Stake in Zomato

Chinese payments group Alipay plans to sell its 3.4 percent stake in Indian food delivery giant Zomato for nearly $400 million (nearly Rs. 3,333 crore) through block deals on Indian stock exchanges, according to three sources and a Reuters review of the deal’s term sheet.

Alipay, owned by Ant Group, will offload its entire 3.44 percent stake in the deal, the term sheet seen by Reuters showed.

Bank of America and Morgan Stanley are advisers on the deal, which is likely to be executed later this week on Indian exchanges, said the three sources, who declined to be named as the plan is private.

Zomato, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Alipay also did not respond outside regular business hours.

Zomato shares have surged more than 90 percent this year, after falling by more than half in 2022 when tech stocks struggled around the world.

Alipay “wants to cash out … the (market) timing is good,” said the first source, referring to the rapid rise in Zomato’s shares in recent months.

The block deals are set to be executed at Rs. 111.28 per share, a 2.2 percent discount to Zomato’s close on Tuesday, the term sheet said.

In October, Japan’s SoftBank sold a 1.1 percent stake in Zomato, which is India’s biggest food delivery service. Demand for online ordering has rapidly grown in recent years, prompting companies like Zomato to aggressively expand.

Alipay’s exit from Zomato comes as other Chinese investors have been paring their stakes in Indian companies. In August, China’s Antfin sold a 10.3 percent stake in Indian financial giant Paytm.

Tech stocks such as Zomato have staged a rebound after a drubbing last year amid a market meltdown, when investors also raised questions about sky-high valuations of some Indian startups that had made their stock market debut in recent years.

Amazon Announces New AI Chip for AWS Amid Competition With Microsoft

Amazon.com on Tuesday announced a new artificial intelligence chip for its cloud computing service as competition with Microsoft to dominate the market for artificial intelligence heats up.

At a conference in Las Vegas, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Chief Executive Adam Selipsky announced Trainium2, the second generation of chip designed for training AI systems. Selipsky said the new version is four times as fast as its predecessor while being twice as energy efficient.

The AWS move comes weeks after Microsoft announced its own AI chip called Maia. The Trainium2 chip will also compete against AI chips from Alphabet‘s Google, which has offered its Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) to its cloud computing customers since 2018.

Selipsky said that AWS will start offering the new training chips next year. The proliferation of custom chips comes amid a scramble to find the computing power to develop technologies such as large language models that form the basis of services similar to ChatGPT.

The cloud computing firms are offering their chips as a complement to Nvidia, the market leader in AI chips whose products have been in short supply for the past year. AWS also on Tuesday said that it will offer Nvidia’s newest chips on its cloud service.

Selipsky on Tuesday also announced Graviton4, the cloud firm’s fourth custom central processor chip, which it said is 30 percent faster than its predecessor. The news comes weeks after Microsoft announced its own custom chip called Cobalt designed to compete with Amazon’s Graviton series.

Both AWS and Microsoft are using technology from Arm in their chips, part of an ongoing trend away from chips made by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices in cloud computing. Oracle is using chips from startup Ampere Computing for its cloud service.

Lenovo Legion Go Handheld Gaming Console Could Launch in India Next Year

The Lenovo Legion Go handheld gaming console was launched globally at IFA (Internationale FunkAusstellung Berlin) showcase event in September. Powered by the new AMD Ryzen Z1 series of processors, the Windows-based device is set to go on sale in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) markets this month. While there’s been no official word from Lenovo over a launch timeline for the Indian market, the Lenovo Legion India Instagram page seems to have hinted at a regional release window for the handheld. The Lenovo Legion Go handheld could release in India next year.

As per games industry insider Rishi Alwani, the Lenovo Legion India Instagram handle responded to a query about the handheld gaming device’s availability in India. Replying to X (formerly Twitter) user Shanthosh Somasunthar (@SSomasunthar)’s query about Lenovo Legion Go, the account said the device was expected to launch in India in March 2024. Alwani posted a screenshot of the interaction on X, providing some hint about a possible launch window for the console in the country. However, it’s worth noting that the Lenovo Legion India page referred to the device as “Lenovo Legion Go laptop,” which could either be a mistake or a misunderstanding.

As mentioned earlier, Lenovo has not announced the launch window or the pricing for the Legion Go handheld in India. The device is priced at EUR 799 (roughly Rs. 70,000) in EMEA markets and will be available in a Shadow Black colourway.

Gaming fans in India, however, can be hopeful. While handhelds are a niche in a growing gaming market in the country, popular products in the category like the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck remain sought after among dedicated fans. While Nintendo and Valve do not have an official presence in India, import models of the two handhelds are readily available via third-party sellers on e-commerce websites. In July, Asus officially launched the ROG Ally handheld gaming device in India. Priced at Rs. 69,990, the RC71L model of the Asus ROG Ally comes with an AMD Z1 Extreme processor, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of inbuilt storage, and a 7-inch LCD display. The handheld can be bought on the Asus e-shop or Flipkart, as well as the company’s Asus and ROG stores.

The Lenovo Legion Go comes with an 8.8-inch QHD+ display with up to 144Hz refresh rate. It runs on Windows 11 Home with Legion Space software on top. Powered by the new AMD Ryzen Z1 series of processors, the handheld packs up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. The available storage can be expanded up to 2TB further through a microSD card slot.

Google App for Android Starts Testing Bottom-Aligned Search Bar for Improved Reachability

Google is testing a new layout for its search app for Android smartphones that will make it much easier to use the handset with one hand. As smartphone screens get bigger, many app developers have begun to move elements of the user interface — including tabs, search bars, and menu buttons — to the bottom of the screen. As part of a new test, Google has reportedly moved the search bar to the bottom of the screen for some users on the app.

Spotted by TheSpAndroid, the new test that brings the search bar to the bottom of the screen on Android was introduced on version 14.48.26.29.arm64 of the app. The company could move the search bar that is usually located higher up on the screen to the bottom. Screenshots shared by the publication show a much taller search bar that is located above the home, search, and saved icons.

The new location of the search bar on Android is expected to make using the Google search app on Android phones much easier — you will be able to start a search bar with your thumb and then either tap or swipe the keyboard, without using your other hand. The change could come in handy for users with large smartphone displays.

It is worth noting that the test is only available to some users who have updated to the latest beta version of the app — the latest stable version of the app currently available is 14.47.36. Gadgets 360 was unable to access the new layout after updating to the latest beta release via the Play Store, which suggests that the redesign is only available to some beta testers.

Google hasn’t made an announcement related to improving the reachability of the search bar on its Android app, and it’s too early to say whether it will roll out to the change to all users, make it optional, or set it as default. The company previously reversed a design change that brought the search bar to the bottom on Android, then allowed beta testers on iOS to move it to the bottom in August.
