Nothing Phone 2a Teased to Get New Colourways; May Come in Red, Yellow Options

Nothing Phone 2a was unveiled globally and in India on March 5 with two colour options – Black and White. The company introduced the smartphone in a third Blue colourway in India in April. The company may now launch the Phone 2a in new colours. The company may have teased the new colours via cryptic social media posts. A promotional teaser of the handset has also reportedly surfaced online that suggests the new colour options will launch in India soon via Flipkart.

Nothing Phone 2a new colour options (expected)

Nothing may have teased the launch of the Nothing Phone 2a in new colourways. A post on the company’s X profile contains only three coloured dots – red, yellow, and blue. There are no additional text, images, hashtags or any other details to clarify what the dots mean.

Notably, both the global Nothing X profile and the Nothing India profile have changed their display pictures to the text ‘NOTHING (R)’ spelled in yellow, red, and black dots. The black variant of the Nothing Phone 2a is globally available, while a blue colour option for the handset is available in India. This could mean that the phone will soon likely be new colours, either in Red and Yellow, or a mixture of both.

Although in the official teasers, the Nothing Phone 2a is never mentioned by name, a Flipkart teaser spotted by FoneArena suggests that the new colour variants of the Phone 2a will launch soon. Note that the teased new colour variants of the Nothing Phone 2a are different from the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition set to be launched in July.

Nothing Phone 2a price in India, availability

Presently, the Nothing Phone 2a is priced in India at Rs. 23,999, Rs. 25,999, and Rs. 27,999, respectively for the 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 256GB configurations. It is available in the country in Black, Blue, and White shades.

In a video shared in a post on X by Nothing, the Nothing Phone 2a is shown in a white colour option. The dual rear camera unit of the phone is placed horizontally within a pill shaped camera module at the top center.

Surrounding the camera module of the Nothing Phone 2a are the LED modules that are part Nothing’s signature Glyph Interface. Two of these units are placed in circular arcs, while the other is placed vertically on the right hand side of the back panel.

The company has previously confirmed that the Nothing Phone 2a will be powered by a 5G-supported MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC, which is claimed to be paired with 12GB of RAM and an additional 8GB of virtual RAM. Nothing CEO Carl Pei has also affirmed that the Phone 2a units sold in India, will be manufactured in the country.

Nothing Phone 2a New Design Renders Surface Online; Processor Details Confirmed

Nothing Phone 2a is confirmed to launch in India on March 5. Ahead of the launch, new design renders habe been leaked that suggest what the smartphone could look like. As per the leak, it could feature a pill shaped camera module at the back that features a dual camera setup. The Nothing Phone 2a is expected to offer marked upgrades over the Nothing Phone 1 and will be priced more affordably compared to the Nothing Phone 2. The company has also officially revealed the processor details of the handset.

The design renders were shared by SmartPrix in collaboration with tipster @OnLeaks. The renders were created in 5K resolution using CAD (Computer-Aided Design). They show an entirely different camera module compared to the ones that surfaced previously. A horizontally-placed pill-shaped dual camera setup can be seen housed on the back panel. Three LED strips are seen surrounding the camera module that should create Nothing’s Glyph Interface, also known as Glyph Lights. Among them, two curved strips appear to be placed on the left, whereas a vertically straight strip is placed on the right.

Because of the semi-transparent back panel on the Nothing Phone 2a render, various screws and contraptions can also be seen. The company’s branding can be seen vertically aligned towards the bottom-left side. The smartphone is shown in the Dark Grey finish.

Earlier, teasing the processor onboard the smartphone, Pei said that it is “Not the Dimensity 7200.” Now, on Monday, the company officially revealed it to be the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC. In the video, Raymond Zhu, the Product Marketing Manager at Nothing, said that they picked the MediaTek chipset over two Qualcomm chipsets — Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and Snapdragon 782G — as the former offered better performance. A separate post revealed that it is a custom-made chipset that was exclusively co-engineered by MediaTek and the smartphone maker.

As per previous reports, the Nothing Phone 2a is said to feature a 6.7-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The phone might also ship with Android 14-based NothingOS 2.5.2 and could feature up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB inbuilt storage. For optics, its rear camera panel could sport a 50-megapixel primary sensor alongside another 50-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. On the front, it is expected to carry a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. It is also likely to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery along with a 45W wired charging support.

Nothing Phone 2a Will be Made in India, CEO Carl Pei Confirms Ahead of March 5 Launch

Nothing Phone 2a is confirmed to launch in India on March 5. Ahead of the launch, the Nothing founder and CEO Car Pei now says that the phone will also be made in India. The phone is expected to be a considerable upgrade over the Nothing Phone 1, while also being cheaper than the Nothing Phone 2, although with skimmed features as compared to the latest flagship model. The company has yet to reveal the design or any specifications of the upcoming handset but that has not stopped the barrage of leaks that we have seen. The design, price and key details about the phone have all been tipped so far.

In response to a user on X (formerly Twitter) who asked if Nothing Phone 2a would be manufactured in India, Carl Pei affirmed with a succinct “yup” on Sunday, February 18. The conversation is an offshoot of a Nothing India teaser which hinted at a new brand ambassador. The company has also teased that it will reveal more details about the upcoming model on February 20 at 3:30pm IST.

Notably, we first officially heard of the Nothing factory in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, when in June 2022, ahead of the Nothing Phone 1 launch, the company announced that the models sold in India would be manufactured locally. Pei later visited the plant in July 2023 before the Phone 2 launch.

Previous leaks have suggested that the Nothing Phone 2a could be priced in India at Rs. 30,000. It has been tipped to be offered in black and white colourway with configurations of 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB. The phone is expected to come with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra SoC, a 6.7-inch 120Hz full-HD+ OLED display, two 50-megapixel rear cameras, and a 32-megapixel front camera. It is also said to support 45W wired fast charging and run Android 14-based NothingOS 2.5 out-of-the-box.

As per the latest leaked design renders, the Nothing Phone 2a is expected to get a design overhaul and a markedly distinctive look over the older smartphones from the company, while also maintaining some basic brand design language – namely the Glyph Interface and a transparent rear panel.

Nothing did not reveal the exact launch date and specifications of the upcoming handset but it is teasing its arrival through an event page on its India website. Nothing has launched two phones so far — Nothing Phone 1 and Nothing Phone 2. The Phone 2a is expected to come as a mid-range offering. It is confirmed to offer an upgrade over Nothing Phone 1.

Nothing, through its newsroom, announced the moniker of its next smartphone, which will be called the Phone 2a. The name announcement came as a part of the brand’s quarterly Community Update. Nothing has set up a landing page on its India website to tease the arrival of the new handset with a ‘coming soon’ label. Keen customers can click on the “Notify Me” button on the website to get the latest updates about the launch.

The landing page doesn’t uncover much about the Nothing Phone 2a, but the company claims that it has been engineered with a focus on providing the optimal daily smartphone experience, doubling down on core user needs, with all of Nothing’s expertise and craftsmanship. The handset codenamed Aerodactyl is confirmed to leverage on some of the features of last year’s Nothing Phone 2. It is claimed to deliver an upgraded experience compared to the Nothing Phone 1.

Nothing Phone 2a Bags TUV Certification, Charging Specifications Revealed Ahead of Debut: Report

Nothing Phone 2a — the company’s purported midrange version of the Phone 2 — is expected to debut at the end of February as the company’s first handset with a MediaTek chipset. Details of the handset have been leaked in the past, giving smartphone enthusiasts an idea of what to expect from the phone in terms of design, specifications and colour options. After being listed several certification websites, the handset has now been spotted on the TUV certification site along with details of its charging specifications.

A listing for the purported Nothing Phone 2a was spotted by 91Mobiles on the TUV certification website with the model number A142. According to the publication, the listing for the Nothing Phone 2a reveals that the phone will support 45W charging — just like the Nothing Phone 2. There’s no word on whether the Nothing Phone 2a will support wireless charging. Gadgets 360 was unable to verify the listing for the handset.

The listing also reveals that the Nothing Phone 2a will support the USB Power Delivery (PD) standard, instead of using a proprietary charging protocol, according to the report. This means that any USB PD compatible charger should be able to charge the Nothing Phone 2a.

Based on previous leaks, we can expect the Nothing Phone 2a to run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7200 processor, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It is also said to sport a 6.7-inch full-HD AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and run on Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5 out-of-the-box.

For photos and videos, the Nothing Phone 2a is rumoured to feature a dual rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary camera, along with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. The smartphone is also said to be equipped with a 16-megapixel camera.

Nothing is expected to unveil the new affordable smartphone at the company’s next event that is scheduled to take place at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024). The company is yet to announce plans to launch a new handset, but recent leaks suggest that we can expect to see the handset debut at Nothing’s event that is scheduled to take place on February 27.
