Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra May Feature Same 3x Telephoto Camera as Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is still new, even though leaks and rumours about next year’s Galaxy S24 Ultra have started to surface online. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s telephoto lens was recently speculated to deliver a 5x optical zoom. However, a tipster now suggests that the upcoming flagship will use the same telephoto camera as its predecessor. Separately, it is said to carry a 10x zoom sensor with minor upgrades. The Galaxy S23 Ultra features a quad rear camera unit headlined by a 200-megapixel primary wide camera sensor.

Samsung was expected to enhance the zoom capabilities of the Galaxy S24 Ultra by introducing a 5x zoom camera next year. But a new leak by tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) contradicts this rumour. He claims that Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature the same 3x telephoto sensor found on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Further, he opined that the only camera upgrade would be the 10x zoom sensor, which undergoes minor improvements. The variable 3x to 10x telephoto camera is said to have been cancelled, but he adds that Samsung will maintain the current four-camera design in the upcoming handset.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to go official early next year alongside the vanilla Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+.

As per reports and leaks, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to come with Android 14-based One UI 6.0 and 144Hz refresh rate display. It could run on Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and may pack 200-megapixel sensors with improved zooming capabilities.

Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra were launched during the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in February. The price of Galaxy S23 Ultra starts at Rs. 1,34,999 in India. They are powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy SoC.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra May Use EV Battery Stacking Method to Offer Longer Battery Life

Samsung launched the Galaxy S23 series in February and rumours about the next-generation Galaxy S flagship smartphones have already started coming in. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is expected to go official in 2024, is tipped to come with a new EV battery technology to offer improved battery life. Samsung’s battery manufacturing division is reportedly planning to apply a capacity increase technology used in their electric car cells and inside the Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to go official alongside the vanilla Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+.

According to a report by The Elec (in Korean), Samsung’s SDI division, that develops and manufactures Li-Ion batteries is looking to implement a new battery stacking method for small batteries aimed at smartphones, tablets, notebooks and other consumer electronics devices. Samsung SDI reportedly collaborated with two Chinese companies to use stacking for the manufacture of Gen 5 batteries aimed at electric cars. This stacking mechanism, borrowed from the EV industry, would tightly stack battery components like cathodes and anodes on top of each other for increased energy density.

Samsung is speculated to debut this battery technology with Galaxy S24 Ultra. Other flagship smartphones and tablets are likely to follow suit. The stacking method is said to increase energy density by over 10 percent to the traditional winding method where battery materials are rolled into jelly rolls and put in cans.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is tipped to come with several upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It could feature a 144Hz refresh rate display and use Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It is said to run on Android 14-based One UI 6.0. It is likely to feature 200-megapixel sensors with improved zooming capabilities

The new Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra were launched during the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in February. The price of the Galaxy S23 starts at Rs. 74,999 in India, while Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra have an initial price tag of Rs. 94,999 and Rs. 1,34,999 respectively. They are powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy SoC.

iPhone 14 Pro Up to 21 Percent Faster Than Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in Performance Benchmarks: Report

iPhone 14 Pro — Apple’s flagship smartphone launched in 2022 — is reportedly faster in both single core and multi core performance than the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, recent benchmarks of both phones have revealed. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is one of the most premium smartphones that is equipped with a custom version of Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro is powered by Apple’s A16 Bionic SoC, which is the fastest chip on an iPhone today.

According to a report by CompareDial, the iPhone 14 Pro is up to 21 percent faster than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in single core performance, based on leaked Geekbench scores for the newly launched Samsung smartphone. The iPhone 14 Pro has a score of 1,874 in the single core test, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s score stood at 1,480. This suggests that Apple’s flagship has a comfortable lead over its Samsung counterpart.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro has a score of 5,384 in the multi score test, which is also higher than the Galaxy S23 Ultra that notched a score of 4,584. The benchmarks show that Apple has a smaller (nearly 15 percent) lead over Samsung in multi-core performance compared to the single-core tests.

A recent report by GSMArena shows similar results for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which scored higher than the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but lower than the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Nubia Red Magic 8 Pro in single-core tests. In the multi-core tests, the Galaxy S23 Ultra was second only to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, beating the handsets from Nubia and Xiaomi, along with its predecessor.

Unlike its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 is powered by a Snapdragon chipset in all markets, which means a weaker Exynos variant will not be available this year. The Samsung Galaxy S22 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and the iPhone 13 Pro Max with an A15 Bionic chipset had multi-core scores of 3,433 and 4,647, respectively, in benchmarks run by PCMag last year.

However, it is worth noting that benchmarks are only one part of the equation, and day-to-day performance depends on hardware and software optimisation. It also appears that Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets are beginning to close in on Apple’s in-house chipsets in terms of performance, but it remains to be seen whether Apple extends its lead later this year with its next-generation of chipsets that are expected to be more powerful and efficient than their predecessors.

In a tweet shared on Twitter by Tipster Edwards Urbina that has now been removed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra model was seen being unboxed sporting a Cotton Flower colour, according to a report by 9to5Google.

The Twitter user later went on to share another series of tweets that seemed to compare alleged shots taken on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone with ones taken on the Google Pixel 7 Pro. The shots are said to be taken using the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s selfie camera, rear camera in low-light conditions, and on the smartphone’s dedicated zoom camera, which is compared with similar conditions on the Pixel 7 Pro .

The first such tweet, a selfie shot allegedly taken on the Samsung Galaxy S23’s front-facing camera is compared with another selfie shot taken on the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Another tweet from Edwards Urbina, seems to compare macro shots taken on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with similar shots taken on the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Here, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s sensors seem to be able to capture more light and hence produce a brighter and more vibrant image as compared to the ones taken on the Pixel 7 Pro.

The Twitter user also seems to compare the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera performance in low-light conditions. Here, the Samsung Galaxy S23 seems to be coming up short as compared to the Pixel 7 Pro with the former producing darker noisier images than the latter.

The user also shared shots that compare the zoom camera capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Google Pixel 7. Here, at least at first look, both cameras seem to perform fairly equally.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to be launched by Samsung at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event scheduled to commence at 11.30pm IST on February 1. It has been tipped to feature a 12-megapixel 3LU sensor for selfies, and a triple camera rear setup that could include a 12-megapixel Sony IMX564 ultra-wide sensor, and a Sony IMX754 telephoto lens, while being headlined by a 200-megapixel HP2 primary sensor.
