Oppo Said to Be Working on New Flagship Phone With Hasselblad-Branded Rear Cameras

Oppo could be gearing up to launch a new flagship smartphone soon. Oppo is expected to pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging on the Find X6 Pro.

Oppo Find X6 series is expected to be unveiled next year. The smartphone lineup that could include two models —Oppo Find X6 and Oppo Find X6 Pro— has been in the rumour mill for quite some time now. Most recently, a Chinese tipster leaked the camera details of the upcoming Oppo Find X6 Pro. As per the new leak, the handset will feature a triple rear camera setup, headlined by a 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor. The Oppo Find X6 Pro is also said to come with a 32-megapixel front-facing shooter.

Digital Chat Station has posted the alleged camera specifications of the Oppo Find X6 Pro on Weibo. As per the leak, the upcoming handset will have a triple rear camera setup. The camera setup on the Oppo Find X6 Pro is also tipped to include a 50-megapixel 1/1.56 telephoto sensor that has an f/2.6 aperture, 64mm focal length, and support for OIS. Further, there will be a 50-megapixel ultra-wide angle 1/1.56 sensor with f/2.2 aperture 14mm focal length and autofocus. This 1/1.56 lens could either use a Sony IMX766 or a Sony IMX890 sensor. Finally, the Oppo Find X6 Pro is said to carry a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 sensor with f/2.4 aperture and 22.7mm focal length at the front.

Details of the Oppo Find X6 Pro have been tipped multiple times earlier. It is said to feature a 6.7-inch E6 LTPO OLED display with a 2K resolution. It is expected to run on Android 13 with the new ColorOS skin on top.

Oppo’s next Find X flagship smartphone is teased to come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It could be offered in 8GB or 12GB of RAM options with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of onboard storage. It is likely to feature a MariSilicon X chip and Hasselblad-tuned triple rear cameras. It could pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging as well.

Samsung Acquires Licence for Key 5G Technologies From Huawei: Report

Huawei was put on an export blacklist by the US government in 2019, which restricted its access to critical technologies of US origin. The company then made a shift towards patent licensing, reportedly expecting to earn $1.3 billion (roughly Rs. 1,075 crore) between 2019 and 2021. A recent report mentions that Huawei has licensed key 5G technologies to Samsung, likely to be related to the 5G modems featured in Samsung handsets. In addition, Huawei and Oppo have also announced a global cross-patent licensing agreement, as per the report.

According to a Nikkei Asia report (via Sammobile), Samsung has acquired licences for key 5G technologies from Huawei. These are believed to be intended for the 5G modems on Samsung smartphones, or Samsung Networks’ 5G telecom infrastructure. In addition, Huawei has also announced the signing of a global patent cross-licensing agreement with Oppo, which is said to cover 5G, Wi-Fi, and audio-video codecs.

Huawei received a massive blow to its smartphone business when the US government under the then President Donal Trump blacklisted the company in 2019. The company’s revenue fell by 2.2 percent in 2022 as per a recent report, due to new restrictions put in by the current US administration under President Biden.

The Chinese tech giant has reportedly stepped up the development of network technology to reduce its vulnerability to such sanctions. Oppo and Samsung are believed to be among 20 firms to have agreed to license Huawei’s technologies and patents in recent years. In November, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) banned the import or sale of communications equipment from Huawei and ZTE.

As previously mentioned, Huawei expected to earn about $1.3 billion (roughly Rs. 1,075 crore) between 2019 and 2021 in revenue from patent licensing. The company is said to have earned around $2.5 (roughly 200) for every smartphone that used 5G technology developed by it.

India Smartphone Shipment Declined by 10 Percent in July-September Quarter: IDC

Smartphone shipment in India declined by 10 percent to hit a three-year low of 43 million shipment in the July-September 2022 period, market research firm International Data Corporation said on Monday.

The 5G smartphone share reached 36 percent of total smartphones during the reported quarter with 16 million units at a slightly higher average selling price of $393 (nearly Rs. 31,900) apiece compared to $377 (nearly Rs. 30,600), in the previous quarter.

“India smartphone market declined 10 percent year-over-year (YoY) shipping 43 million units in July-September 2022. This was the lowest third-quarter shipment since 2019 despite an earlier onset of the Diwali festivities. Weakening demand and increasing device prices negatively impacted festive buying,” International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report said.

IDC Device Research Associate Vice President Navkendar Singh said that the inventory pile up and post-festive cyclical demand tapering will lead to a muted December 2022 quarter and the annual shipment of 2022 is likely to decline by 8-9 percent to around 150 million units.

“The major challenges going into 2023 are the impact of inflation on consumer demand, increasing device costs, and slow feature phone-to-smartphone migration. However, the migration of 4G smartphone users to 5G smartphones should give a growth fillip to the market in 2023, especially in the mid-premium and above segments,” Singh said.

According to the report, online channels had the upper hand during the September 2022 quarter as they clocked a record 58 percent share, although with flat year-over-year growth with shipment of 25 million units.

“Multiple rounds of eTailer sales (The Big Billion Days on Flipkart and Amazon Great India Festival) were supported by preferential platform pricing, online exclusive deals, and offers and discounts. Amidst all the action in the online channels, offline shipments declined by 20 percent YoY as they struggled to generate demand while competing with aggressive online plays,” the report said.

MediaTek-based smartphones increased to 47 percent of the total market, while Qualcomm‘s decreased to 25 percent with UNISOC following at 15 percent.

Xiaomi led the smartphone market during the quarter with 21.2 percent share while Apple led the premium category with a 63 percent share in the segment.

Xiaomi maintained its lead, but with declining shipments of 18 percent YoY in the September 2022 quarter. More than 70 percent of shipments went to online channels, resulting in a share of 27 percent of the online channel (including sub-brand Poco),” the report said.

Samsung regained second slot with 18.5 percent share. It was followed by Vivo with 14.6 percent share, Realme 14.2 percent and Oppo 12.5 percent market share.

“The sub-$300 (nearly Rs. 24,350) segment underperformed, as shipments declined by 15 percent YoY. The premium segment of over $500 (nearly Rs. 40,600) continued to remain the highest growing price band with 64 percent growth YoY and 8 percent share. Apple led with a 63 percent share of that space, followed by Samsung with 22 percent and OnePlus with 9 percent,” the report said.

Meanwhile, Oppo is supposedly working on its next foldable flagship smartphone — the Oppo Find N2 — which could also debut around the same time in China. A reliable tipster has now hinted that these two smartphones may boast the same camera configuration. They are expected to feature a 50-megapixel triple rear camera setup.

According to a post by tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 11 and Oppo Find N2 may sport a triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor, a 48-megapixel Sony IMX581 ultra-wide lens, and a 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 telephoto shooter with 2x optical zoom.

The tipster further claims that the Oppo‘s foldable Find N2 handset may come with optical image stabilisation (OIS), whereas it is uncertain whether OnePlus will offer the same on the OnePlus 11. Both companies are yet to delve into the details regarding these smartphones.

Alleged specifications of the Oppo Find N2 surfaced recently via leaked screenshots of a testing unit. This foldable smartphone is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The Oppo foldable may feature a MariSilicon X imaging neural processing unit (NPU). Its display is likely to offer a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 11 has been tipped to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, which is supposed to offer a 2K resolution.
