Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5 Will Debut With One UI 5.1.1 Based on Android 13: Report

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are expected to launch in August this year. While we haven’t heard anything from the South Korean brand about its 2023 foldable smartphones yet, a new report claims that the Samsung flagships will debut with One UI 5.1.1 based on Google’s latest Android 13. The firmware with One UI 5.1.1 is reportedly appearing for the model numbers SM-F731N and SM-F946N, which are said to be associated with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. They are expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

According to a report by SamMobile, the launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will mark the release of the latest version of the company’s custom skin. Samsung is reportedly testing One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13 on the two upcoming foldable phones now.

The South Korean variant of Galaxy Z Fold 5 (SM-F946N) and Galaxy Z Flip 5 (SM-F731N) were reportedly found running One UI 5.1.1. The former was seen with firmware version F731NKSU0AWD5, while the latter is said to be associated with firmware version F946NKSU0AWD5.

Samsung is expected to release One UI 5.1.1 to existing Galaxy smartphones and tablets a few days after the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It is said to bring improvements to the stock apps, Galaxy ecosystem features, and enhancements to the Flex Mode.

Samsung One UI 5.1 was unveiled alongside the Samsung Galaxy S23 series in February. Besides the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, the update is currently reaching other eligible Galaxy smartphones as well. It allows users to change hues while taking selfies and adds access to the Expert RAW feature. It also brings improvements to the DeX Mode, Bixby Text Calls, weather app, and the gallery app.

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G Reportedly Receives Android 13 Update With One UI 5.0

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is reportedly receiving an update to Android 13, with the company’s One UI 5.0 interface on top. The update has been spotted in Europe. Samsung officially unveiled the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update last month at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2022. The latest update has been released under the firmware version number A336BXXU4BVJG and has a file size of about 2GB. The update is based on Android 13 with Samsung’s own One UI 5.0 skin running on top. However, in terms of security, the latest One UI 5.0 update for the Galaxy A33 5G comes with the October 2022 patch, even though it is released in November.

The November security patch is expected roll out soon with another update in the coming weeks, according to Galaxy Club who first sighted the rollout of the latest One UI 5.0 update on the Samsung Galaxy A-series phone that was launched earlier this year.

Samsung Galaxy A33 5G users in Europe may check to see if they can download the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update by manually navigating to the phone’s Settings > Software update > Download and install.

Samsung’s One UI 5.0 has appears to offer the ability to customise the lock screen, which is similar to the lock screen customisation feature on iOS 16. However, while users can long-press to enable the customisation menu on the lock screen on both One UI 5.0 and iOS 16, it is worth noting that Samsung has allowed users to customise their lock screens for years, via its Good Lock modules.

Other features that will be available after updating to Samsung’s One UI 5.0 update also include personalisation options such as custom-built Modes and Routines and a new Bixby Text Call feature, which allows the Bixby Voice assistant to answer your calls and automatically trigger the sharing of a customized message with the caller, if left unanswered.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series which includes the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra appear to be the first device to get updated to Google’s Android 13 update through a stable UI 5.0 update rollout. Disappointingly, owners of the company’s latest flagships foldable phones — the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 — will have to wait to get their hands on the latest Android 13-based One UI 5 update.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Series Receiving One UI 5 Stable Update, Brings New Camera Assistant App: Reports

Samsung officially unveiled the Android 13-based One UI 5 a couple of weeks ago at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2022. The South Korean tech giant had not revealed the start date for the rollout of this update at the time. Reports are now suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series has started receiving this update in select countries. Disappointingly, owners of the company’s latest flagships — the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 — will seemingly have to wait for more to get the stable One UI 5 version.

According to a report by Sammobile, Samsung has begun rolling out the stable Android 13-based One UI 5 update for the Exynos 2200 SoC-powered versions of the vanilla Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The company reportedly tested the One UI 5 beta with a small user base before releasing this stable update. These beta users will reportedly receive only a small update. Meanwhile, Android 12 users are reportedly required to download over a 2GB update to get the public One UI 5 version.

The One UI 5 stable version is said to come with the firmware version S90xBXXU2BVJA. It is reportedly being rolled out in Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom.

Samsung is expected to begin rolling out this update in other European countries on Tuesday. Meanwhile, One UI 5 with firmware version S90xNKSU2BVJA is reportedly available to Galaxy S22 series users in South Korea. Other global regions are expected to get this update later this week.

The South Korean tech giant is expected to roll out the Android 13-based One UI 5 updates for all of its flagship smartphones released in 2021 and 2022 before the end of this year. Furthermore, at least one mid-range handset might also get this update.

It has also released the Camera Assistant app for Galaxy smartphones running on One UI 5. It can be downloaded via the Galaxy Store and comes as part of Samsung’s Good Lock suite of personalisation apps.

The new Camera Assistant app provides users with the option to enable or disable Auto HDR. Its Soften Pictures feature smoothes out sharp edges and textures. The app is also programmed to automatically pick the most suitable camera lens based on the zoom, lighting, and subject distance.

It also allows users to record videos in photo mode by holding the Shutter button. Users can also select the number of frames the camera captures after the timer. The Camera Assistant app is also designed to automatically turn off the camera if it is not used for two minutes.

Samsung Rolls Out One UI 5 Beta 3 Seemingly Cloning iOS 16 Lock Screen

Samsung has seemingly rolled out the One UI 5 beta 3 this week. The update brings themed-icon support for third-party apps, snappier animations, and more. However, the standout feature appears to be the new customisation options for the lock screen that appears to follow the same approach as the options featured in Apple’s iOS 16. The new Lock Screen in iOS 16 was presumably one of the most talked about features of this operating system when it was released earlier this month.

According to a tweet by Vaibhav Jain (@vvaiibhav) from the TechDroider YouTube channel, Samsung has purportedly cloned iOS 16‘s Lock Screen feature with the One UI 5 beta 3 update. Long-pressing the screen takes users to the customisation interface which appears very similar to the layout offered in iOS 16.

Here, Samsung users can pick from five different clock styles, compared to the eight offered on iOS 16. There are also options to change the clock colour and font style. Similarly, while selecting wallpapers, both systems offer a ‘Collection’ of backgrounds with a similar layout.

However, Jain and other Twitter users were quick to point out that these features were already available on the Good Lock app for Samsung. They speculate that it was Apple who initially cloned the layout. Apple fans claim that Samsung only decided to offer these features natively after iOS 16 was released with the Lock Screen.

Samsung recently began the One UI 5.0 beta registrations for the Galaxy S21 series in India. Reportedly, the Galaxy S22 series had already started receiving One UI 5.0 beta updates in August. All these developments could mean that Samsung might release the official stable One UI 5.0 build in the coming days.
