Nothing Announces Phone 2a Community Edition Project, to Allow Users to Design a Special Edition Phone

Nothing recently teased an “industry first” initiative. The company has now revealed its plan for a ‘Community Edition Project’ where it is inviting people across the world to send in their ideas regarding a new variant of the recently unveiled Nothing Phone 2a. It is claimed to be a co-creation of the “community” and the Nothing Team. Nothing founder and CEO Carl Pei confirmed that this could be the first step towards the “community” being involved in co-developing new products or even the OS in the future. The Phone 2a was launched on March 5 with users recently started receiving the Nothing OS 2.5.4 update.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced the Nothing Phone 2a Community Edition Project wherein the UK-based OEM is taking design, wallpaper, and packaging ideas from the community – Nothing products users or otherwise. The invitation is open to all. All interested individuals are encouraged to submit ideas regarding a new Phone 2a variant.

The company further details that the Community Edition Project will span over six months and involve four stages. The hardware design submission will take place in March, followed by wallpaper design in May, packaging design in June, and marketing campaign ideas will have to be submitted July.

Nothing confirmed that the ideas can be put forth via any medium of the participant’s choice –  “images, video and/or other supporting media that best showcases” the idea and can be uploaded using the Community Edition Project webpage. Once the submission period closes for each stage, voting will begin on select ideas, which will be open to all. All valid submissions will then finally be judged by an “internal Nothing panel to select the winner at each stage.”

The Nothing Phone 2a starts in India at Rs. 23,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, while the 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB configurations are listed at Rs. 25,999 and Rs. 27,999, respectively. The phone is offered in Black and White colour options and is backed by a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC alongside a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired fast charging support. It sports a 6.7-inch 120Hz full-HD+ AMOLED display, dual 50-megapixel rear cameras, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

Now the UK-based OEM has announced that a new Nothing OS 2.5.4 update has started rolling out to Phone 2a users.

The London-based company announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the Nothing OS 2.5.4 update is rolling out to Nothing Phone 2a. To upgrade to Nothing OS 2.5.4, Phone 2a users can go to Settings > System > System Update. The company also detailed the changelog for the update in the same post. Issues with the incorrect display of cellular or Wi-Fi information in Quick Settings, as well as the screen going dark during incoming calls are said to have been resolved. Nothing Phone 2a is set to launch in India on March 5. The company recently confirmed its SoC details. Other key specifications like storage, camera, battery, as well as price, colour options and design of the phone have been tipped several times. Now the UK-based OEM has revealed the design of the upcoming smartphone. The model is seen in a single colourway with a redesigned back panel compared to the earlier Phone 2 and Phone 1. It is expected to launch as an upgrade over the Nothing Phone 1 while also remaining cheaper than Phone 2, with toned-down features of the latest flagship.

In a video shared in a post on X by Nothing, the Nothing Phone 2a is shown in a white colour option. Similar to the other handsets from the company, the upcoming model also sports a transparent rear panel design. The dual rear camera unit of the phone is placed horizontally within a pill shaped camera module at the top center.

Surrounding the camera module of the Nothing Phone 2a are the LED modules that are part Nothing’s signature Glyph Interface. Two of these units are placed in circular arcs, while the other is placed vertically on the right hand side of the back panel.

The company has previously confirmed that the Nothing Phone 2a will be powered by a 5G-supported MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC, which is claimed to be paired with 12GB of RAM and an additional 8GB of virtual RAM. Nothing Phone 2a Design, Colour Options Tipped Again via Leaked Renders Ahead of Debut

Nothing Phone 2a — the UK startup’s upcoming smartphone scheduled to launch on March 5 — could arrive in two colour options. Details of the handset have surfaced online more than once in the past few weeks, and now the design of the Nothing Phone 2a has been posted to X (formerly Twitter) by a tipster. These images corroborate recently leaked images of the phone that suggest it will feature a horizontal dual rear camera layout and a simplified Glyph LED layout.

Tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) leaked images of the upcoming Nothing Phone 2a on X (formerly Twitter). These images show the handset in black and white colourways — the company’s previous smartphones are also available in the same colour options. The image of the Phone 2a in black shows the rear panel as well as the phone’s screen, while the white option shows the rear panel.

The black colourway of the Nothing Phone 2a shows three Glyph interface lights located in the top half of the rear panel. These lights surround a centre-aligned horizontal dual rear camera island is slightly raised. The LED flash is located near the camera module, as per the leaked image.

Both images of the white and black options for the Nothing Phone 2a show that nothing has opted for a more simplified version of the Glyph interface. The rear panel also sports a different design compared to the Nothing Phone 1 and Phone 2 — both of these handsets offer support for wireless charging. The power button are shown on the right edge, while the volume buttons are on the left.

The leaked image of the Nothing Phone 2a in black also gives us another look at the phone’s screen. It is shown with minimal bezels and a centre-aligned hole punch cutout for the selfie camera. The latest leak showing the smartphone’s purported design appear to corroborate images that were recently shared by another tipster, with only two weeks to go before it debuts in India and global markets on March 5.

Nothing Phone 2a New Design Renders Surface Online; Processor Details Confirmed

Nothing Phone 2a is confirmed to launch in India on March 5. Ahead of the launch, new design renders habe been leaked that suggest what the smartphone could look like. As per the leak, it could feature a pill shaped camera module at the back that features a dual camera setup. The Nothing Phone 2a is expected to offer marked upgrades over the Nothing Phone 1 and will be priced more affordably compared to the Nothing Phone 2. The company has also officially revealed the processor details of the handset.

The design renders were shared by SmartPrix in collaboration with tipster @OnLeaks. The renders were created in 5K resolution using CAD (Computer-Aided Design). They show an entirely different camera module compared to the ones that surfaced previously. A horizontally-placed pill-shaped dual camera setup can be seen housed on the back panel. Three LED strips are seen surrounding the camera module that should create Nothing’s Glyph Interface, also known as Glyph Lights. Among them, two curved strips appear to be placed on the left, whereas a vertically straight strip is placed on the right.

Because of the semi-transparent back panel on the Nothing Phone 2a render, various screws and contraptions can also be seen. The company’s branding can be seen vertically aligned towards the bottom-left side. The smartphone is shown in the Dark Grey finish.

Earlier, teasing the processor onboard the smartphone, Pei said that it is “Not the Dimensity 7200.” Now, on Monday, the company officially revealed it to be the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC. In the video, Raymond Zhu, the Product Marketing Manager at Nothing, said that they picked the MediaTek chipset over two Qualcomm chipsets — Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and Snapdragon 782G — as the former offered better performance. A separate post revealed that it is a custom-made chipset that was exclusively co-engineered by MediaTek and the smartphone maker.

As per previous reports, the Nothing Phone 2a is said to feature a 6.7-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The phone might also ship with Android 14-based NothingOS 2.5.2 and could feature up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB inbuilt storage. For optics, its rear camera panel could sport a 50-megapixel primary sensor alongside another 50-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. On the front, it is expected to carry a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. It is also likely to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery along with a 45W wired charging support.

Nothing Phone 2a Will be Made in India, CEO Carl Pei Confirms Ahead of March 5 Launch

Nothing Phone 2a is confirmed to launch in India on March 5. Ahead of the launch, the Nothing founder and CEO Car Pei now says that the phone will also be made in India. The phone is expected to be a considerable upgrade over the Nothing Phone 1, while also being cheaper than the Nothing Phone 2, although with skimmed features as compared to the latest flagship model. The company has yet to reveal the design or any specifications of the upcoming handset but that has not stopped the barrage of leaks that we have seen. The design, price and key details about the phone have all been tipped so far.

In response to a user on X (formerly Twitter) who asked if Nothing Phone 2a would be manufactured in India, Carl Pei affirmed with a succinct “yup” on Sunday, February 18. The conversation is an offshoot of a Nothing India teaser which hinted at a new brand ambassador. The company has also teased that it will reveal more details about the upcoming model on February 20 at 3:30pm IST.

Notably, we first officially heard of the Nothing factory in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, when in June 2022, ahead of the Nothing Phone 1 launch, the company announced that the models sold in India would be manufactured locally. Pei later visited the plant in July 2023 before the Phone 2 launch.

Previous leaks have suggested that the Nothing Phone 2a could be priced in India at Rs. 30,000. It has been tipped to be offered in black and white colourway with configurations of 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB. The phone is expected to come with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra SoC, a 6.7-inch 120Hz full-HD+ OLED display, two 50-megapixel rear cameras, and a 32-megapixel front camera. It is also said to support 45W wired fast charging and run Android 14-based NothingOS 2.5 out-of-the-box.

As per the latest leaked design renders, the Nothing Phone 2a is expected to get a design overhaul and a markedly distinctive look over the older smartphones from the company, while also maintaining some basic brand design language – namely the Glyph Interface and a transparent rear panel.

Nothing Phone 2a Flipkart Availability Confirmed; Key Specifications Leaked With Live Images

Nothing Phone 2a, the third smartphone from the brand led by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, will launch soon in India. Ahead of the formal debut, the UK-based company has confirmed that the upcoming phone will be sold via Flipkart in India. Additionally, alleged hands-on images of the Nothing Phone 2a have surfaced on the Web alongside its specifications. The latest leak appears to show a black version of the Phone 2a. It is seen with a hole-punch cutout located in the centre of the screen for the selfie camera. The Nothing Phone 2a is tipped to run on MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC.

Flipkart has created a dedicated microsite on its website to tease the arrival of the Nothing Phone 2a smartphone. The page has listed the handset with a “coming soon” tag and it carries a Nothing community update video in which the company’s co-founder and marketing lead Akis Evangelidis talks about the upcoming handset. The landing page doesn’t specify the launch date or any key features of the phone.

Additionally, a Reddit user has shared (via @yabhishekhd) alleged hands-on images and specifications of the Nothing Phone 2a. The images show the front and back of the handset with a privacy cover and suggest a design language different from its siblings. However, it is seen in a black shade with a centrally placed hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. Despite the presence of a privacy cover, the photos indicate that the phone has two rear-facing cameras. The rear cameras are seen mounted horizontally and closer towards the centre of its back panel.

Based on the leak, Nothing Phone 2a will run on Android 13 and bring a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. It is said to carry a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC under the hood. The phone could carry a dual rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel Samsung GN9 sensor and a 50-megapixel JN1 camera. It could get a 32-megapixel Sony IMX615 front camera. It is said to be available in black and white shades.

Although a launch date has not been announced for Nothing Phone 2a, we expect this to happen sometime around Mobile Word Congress (MWC) 2024 later this month. The handset is codenamed Aerodactyl and is confirmed to leverage some of the features of last year’s Nothing Phone 2 and is claimed to deliver an upgraded experience compared to the Nothing Phone 1.

Nothing’s CMF Sub-Brand Teases New Neckband Pro, Buds Launch

Nothing, the UK-based brand, recently confirmed that the Nothing Phone 2a is launching soon. Meanwhile, Nothing’s sub-brand CMF had teased an upcoming product earlier this week. As it turns out, CMF had two new products up its sleeves – the Neckband Pro and Buds. The company has also teased the new products officially. CMF by Nothing is a sub-brand that was announced in August 2023 and caters to the masses. The new products will join the CMF Watch Pro, Buds Pro, and the Power 65 GaN (gallium nitride) adapter in India.

In a post on X, CMF by Nothing (@cmfbynothing) shared teasers of the upcoming CMF Neckband Pro and CMF Buds. The caption claimed that the products are likely to launch soon but failed to mention a particular date or timeline for the same. Part of the post reads “Wonderful by Design,” however, the designs of either product were not evident in the teasers.

Other than the name, there is not much more that we know about the CMF Neckband Pro and CMF Buds. However, a safe assumption to make would be that the Buds will join the CMF Buds Pro TWS earphones, which were introduced in India in September 2023. The upcoming earphones, owing to the moniker – the lack of ‘Pro’ in the name, can be assumed to offer whittled-down features at a cheaper price. The Neckband Pro is expected to be a pair of neckband-style earphones. We should have more details soon.

Notably, the CMF Buds Pro launched in the country at Rs. 3,499 and comes in Dark Grey, Light Grey, and Orange colour options. They support 45dB active noise cancellation (ANC) and double-tap gestures for pausing/playing music and connecting or disconnecting calls. The earphones carry a 10mm dynamic driver and an IP54 rating. Each bud is equipped with a 55mAh battery claimed to offer up to 11 hours of playback time on a single charge without ANC.

The CMF Buds Pro were launched alongside the CMF Power 65 GaN charger priced in the country at Rs. 2,999, and the CMF Watch Pro starts at Rs. 4,499.
