Now the UK-based OEM has announced that a new Nothing OS 2.5.4 update has started rolling out to Phone 2a users.

The London-based company announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the Nothing OS 2.5.4 update is rolling out to Nothing Phone 2a. To upgrade to Nothing OS 2.5.4, Phone 2a users can go to Settings > System > System Update. The company also detailed the changelog for the update in the same post. The update includes improved colour accuracy and saturation for the rear camera, as well as refined colour consistency between the primary and ultra-wide rear cameras.

As per the changelog, the NothingOS 2.5.4 update for the Phone 2a will overall improve camera performance and offer a “fine-tuned” Bokeh effect in the Portrait Mode. The Nothing OS 2.5.4 update  is said to optimise the overall performance of mobile games including BGMI. The update will also improve the Recorder widget animation and get rid of the animation stutter while launching and exiting applications.

The NothingOS 2.5.4 update for Phone 2a also includes several bug fixes. A flickering issue that some users faced when launching apps from the home screen has been fixed. Meanwhile, a display issue with the home screen and lock screen wallpapers has also been fixed in this update. Issues with the incorrect display of cellular or Wi-Fi information in Quick Settings, as well as the screen going dark during incoming calls are said to have been resolved. The update will also enhance the overall stability of the handset.

Nothing Phone 2a, the third smartphone from the brand led by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, finally went official in India on Tuesday (March 5). The latest handset from the UK-based company runs on MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC and features an AMOLED display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It flaunts dual 50-megapixel cameras at the rear and has an IP54-rated build. The Nothing Phone 2a brings the company’s trademark Glyph Interface with a new trio of light configurations and functions.

Price of Nothing Phone 2a has been set at Rs. 23,999 for the base 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage configuration. The phone is also available in 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage variants, priced at Rs. 25,999 and Rs. 27,999, respectively. It is offered in White and Black colour options and will go on sale via Flipkart starting March 12. 

As a special launch offer, Nothing Phone 2a can be purchased for a starting price tag of just Rs. 19,999 only for one day on March 12 through Flipkart. Further, the e-commerce company is offering Rs. 2,000 cashback for purchases made using HDFC bank cards. Buyers can avail additional Rs. 2,000 discount on exchanges as well. Further, there are no-cost EMI options for up to nine months. 

Nothing Phone 2a specifications

The dual-SIM (nano) Nothing Phone 2a runs Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.5. It is assured to receive three years of Android updates and four years of security patches. It sports a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,412 pixels) AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 120Hz, 394ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The screen has HDR10+ support, 240Hz touch sampling rate, 2160Hz PWM frequency and 1,300 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, the smartphone comes with an octa-core 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC paired with up to 12GB of RAM.

For optics, the Nothing Phone 2a gets a dual-camera setup with two 50-megapixel sensors. The main 50-megapixel sensor has an f/1.88 aperture lens and a 1/1.56-inch size with support for optical image stabilisation and electronic image stabilisation. The secondary 50-megapixel ultra wide-angle sensor has an f/2.2 aperture and 114-degree field of view. On the front, the smartphone has a 16-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture.

The Nothing Phone 2a offers up to 256GB of inbuilt storage. Connectivity options on the smartphone include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6 Direct, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, QZSS, 360 degree antenna and USB Type-C port. Sensors onboard include an in-display fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, electronic compass, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. It comes with high-definition microphones and dual stereo speakers. It has an IP54-rated dust and water-resistant build and supports face unlock feature for authentication.

Nothing has packed a 5,000mAh battery on the Phone 2a with support for 45W fast charging. This marks a significant upgrade over Phone 1’s 4,500mAh battery unit and Phone 2’s 4,700mAh battery unit. The battery unit is claimed to keep going for up to two days straight on a single charge. The fast charging technology is said to fill the battery from zero to 50 percent in just 23 minutes and to 100 percent in 59 minutes. It measures 161.74×76.32×8.55mm and weighs 190 grams.

Like the predecessors, the Nothing Phone 2a includes a Glyph Interface that allows users to personalise the lighting effects on the back of the phone. The LED interface includes a new trio light configuration and 15 functions alongside ten new ringtones and notification sounds. With this update, users can assign different patterns as ringtones for individual contacts or apps. The Essential Glyph Notifications feature will assist in setting lights for select important contacts or apps. The Glyph Interface can also function as a camera shutter countdown or controlling volume.

Nothing Phone 1 Gets Nothing OS 2.0.4 Update With New Features, Bug Fixes

Nothing has started rolling out a new software update for its Nothing Phone 1 globally. The latest build — Nothing OS 2.0.4 —introduces a new photo widget while also restyling various elements of the interface. The update also brings an app drawer to hide and organise unwanted apps. The latest build adds a hidden apps drawer to access the apps that are relocated and hidden from the app drawer. This can be accessed by swiping to the left side of the app drawer. The Nothing OS 2.0.4 also brings a Photo widget. This will allow users to display their favourite photos on the home screen or lock screen.

Upgrading to Nothing OS 2.0.4 will allow the charging tooltip in the lock screen to accurately reflect the charging speed. Nothing also fixed issues causing lock screen widgets to not be displayed properly after restarting in the new build. With the update, the cloned instance of WhatsApp now properly supports App Locker. The firmware update also enhances the stability of Wi-Fi hot spotting alongside offering bug fixes for the company’s first smartphone.

Nothing Phone 1 Could Be Getting Android 13-Based Nothing OS 1.5 Update Soon: Report

The Nothing Phone 1 is set to receive the much-awaited and long overdue Android 13 update. In a gradual roll out, Nothing Phone 1 devices will reportedly begin to get the next software update by the end of this week. Carl Pie, the co-founder of OnePlus, founded the independent consumer tech startup called Nothing around two years ago in London, UK. Along with the Phone 1, Nothing has also released two versions of true wireless earphones so far.

While an official confirmation is awaited, according to a 91Mobiles report, Nothing support team has claimed that Android 13 will begin rolling out by the end of this week in the UK in a response to a user’s query.

The company wished to test Android 13 thoroughly before deploying it as an OTA update to its devices. Select testers of the phone did get to run the Nothing OS 1.5 beta version, that is based on the Android 13 update. Nothing launched an open beta for the Android 13-based Nothing OS 1.5 update back in December.

In an official blog post, Nothing had provided details about the latest Android 13-based update. The new OS provides Nothing Phone 1 users a 50 percent boost in app loading speed. The update also introduces multi-language support for third-party apps, and adds a new weather app featuring the company’s customised Nothing UI.

Nothing Phone 1 users are receiving access to Nothing OS 1.5 beta, as part of the company’s Open Beta programme. Other additions include a new QR code scanner button in the Quick Settings menu, a clipboard preview feature that allows text copied by users to appear in the bottom corner of the screen which may be edited before pasting, a live caption feature that automatically generates captions on detected speech audio, and a “self-repair” feature that clears unused cached and expired system dumps automatically.

Meanwhile, other UI changes on the latest update include the introduction of more colour schemes to Android 13’s Material You design that the Nothing OS is based on which will allow users to match third-party app colours to their wallpaper, a redesigned media control and volume control menu, and a new UI for light notifications and Google Game Dashboard that allows for a smoother experience when Game Mode is activated on the Nothing Phone 1.

Users will also be able to close active background apps more easily with an option to clear apps now being made available on the notification center, according to Nothing.

Nothing has also introduced Android 13’s privacy upgrades to its latest Nothing OS 1.5 beta update which encompasses an improved photo picker, a notifications permissions feature that lets users control which apps can push notifications, and a media permissions feature that allows users to group types of media such as photos and videos, music and audio, together.

Nothing, however, added that there will be more features to come on the fully-stable version of the Nothing OS 1.5 which is expected to arrive early next year.

Nothing Phone 1 to Get Android 13 Beta Update by the End of 2022, Carl Pei Says

Nothing CEO Carl Pei revealed on Wednesday that the company is planning to ship the beta version of the Nothing OS based on Android 13 by the end of the year. A new report had already revealed that the company is aiming to release the stable Android 13 update in the first half of 2023. Nothing Phone 1 is the first foray into the smartphone segment by the company. This smartphone was launched earlier this year in July running an Android 12-based Nothing OS.

Pei announced via Twitter that Nothing does not plan to rush on updates at the cost of user experience. He revealed that the company aims to ship out the beta version of Nothing OS based on Android 13 by the end of the year. Nothing Phone 1 users can expect a stable build in early 2023.

He further claimed that Nothing is “looking to create some fun and interesting software experiences.” However, details of upcoming features on the company’s Android 13 update were not revealed.

To recall, the Nothing Phone 1 was launched earlier this year in July running on Android 12-based Nothing OS out-of-the-box. The company has assured its users that it will offer 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches (every 2 months).

When we reviewed the Nothing Phone 1, we discovered that it is devoid of bloatware and only features Google’s suite of apps by default. Nothing OS includes several unique animations and we found the overall software experience to be pretty good.

In addition, Pei recently announced that Nothing is gradually rolling out OS version 1.1.3 for the Nothing Phone 1. This update brings several camera improvements, including improved processing times for Night Mode and HDR. Colour saturation is claimed to be richer than before while using the ultra-wide camera. Next comes the bug fixation and performance optimisations with the latest software update of the Nothing Phone 1. Nothing has fixed the lock screen bug, which was reported to hide the fingerprint icon of the smartphone. Also, the battery life of the Nothing Phone 1 has been optimised, especially when the handset remains on standby.

The reliability of the Glyph interface of the smartphone along with the face unlock performance has also been improved with this update. There are other minor bug fixes as well that have not been mentioned in the changelog.
