Giants’ Graham Gano responds to troll in most Scottish way imaginable

New York Giants kicker Graham Gano has zero patience for online trolls.

Over the weekend, an NFL fan on social media disparaged the Giants, suggesting they would go a mere 4-12 in 2024 (obviously forgetting there are 17 regular season games now).

Gano was having none of it.

“Haud yer wheesht,” Gano replied.

American fans were understandably confused by what Gano had said but pledged their support nonetheless.

“I have no idea what that means, but I support everything Graham says,” one user on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote.

Translated, what the Scottish-born Gano said was essentially, “keep your mouth shut.”

It’s also not the first time this offseason that Gano has clapped back at a troll online. He also replied to a fan who demanded Gano give up his jersey number to whatever player wanted it simply because he was nothing more than a kicker.

Don’t test the veteran. He has no patience for nonsense.

New York Giants place Darren Waller, Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve

The New York Giants have placed tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) and quarterback Tyrod Taylor (ribs) on injured reserve (IR). The pair will miss at least the next four games.

Waller suffered a hamstring injury during a Week 8 loss to the New York Jets that he says was unrelated to the hamstring issue he dealt with earlier this year.

Taylor was injured in the same game and transported to a local hospital where he remained overnight.

Waller and Taylor join kicker Graham Gano, who was also placed on IR this week with a knee injury. He is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days but stopped short of saying his season is over.

“No. Nobody’s told me that,” Gano said when asked if he’s been told his season is over. “But my mindset is always if I’m dealing with some adversity, just attack it, and do what I can with it.”

In place of Gano, the Giants signed kicker Cade York off the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad. They also signed kicker Randy Bullock to the practice squad and elevated him ahead of their Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, providing them with two active kickers for the game.

Additionally, the Giants elevated linebacker Justin Hollins from the practice squad and signed tight end Lawrence Cager to their 53-man roster from the reserve unit.

Rookie Tommy DeVito will serve as the backup quarterback on Sunday.

In addition to Taylor, tight Darren Waller has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, which was expected given that he’ll miss several weeks.

Daboll implied that both Taylor and Waller could land on injured reserve (IR) in the near future.

Jones was officially cleared for contact on Sunday and barring any setbacks, will start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Running back Saquon Barkley, who is nursing an elbow injury, was thrilled to see his friend on the field.

“It’s just good to have another player out there with DJ, I know he’s excited. He’s played with Saquon for a bit so it’s just good to have him back,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters.

Meanwhile, offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal are each inching closer to a return.

Poor coaching, late collapse doom Giants in 13-10 loss to Jets

The New York Giants hosted their MetLife co-tenants, the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon in a crucial Week 8 contest for both teams.

The Giants were again without starting quarterback Daniel Jones, who is still dealing with a neck injury. Backup Tyrod Taylor started in Jones’ absence for the third consecutive week but was forced to leave the game early due to injury.

The Giants also were without left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) for the seventh straight week but saw the return of center John Michael Schmitz.

The weather was less than perfect for football with temperatures in the 50s, overcast skies and a steady rain.

For a game that was so poorly played by both sides, it turned out to be one of the most entertaining contests of the season thus far. But Giants fans probably aren’t feeling that way right now given how things ended.

Let’s recap:

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 OT Final
Giants 3 0 0 7 0 10
Jets 7 0 0 3 3 13

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

  • Kicker Graham Gano missed two field goals, first from 47 yards and then from 35 yards out in the final minute. He is dealing with a knee injury that will require surgery at some point and perhaps the Giants should have tried to gain the first down on the second miss rather than have Gano kick.
  • The rib injury to Tyrod Taylor killed any chance the Giants had of opening up their offense in the second half. They were clearly wary of attempting any type of passing attack behind Tommy DeVito.
  • All game long, the talk was of the Jets’ ineptitude on third down. At one point, they were 0-11 and finished 2-15. What the real story was that the Giants were equally as bad, going 2-19 on third down.
  • The Giants were able to stay in the game with their rushing attacks, which ended up gaining 203 yards on the afternoon — their highest total of the season.

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein kicked a 33-yard field goal with 6:12 in overtime to give the Jets a 13-10 victory.

The Giants had an opportunity to close the Jets out in the final minute of regulation but allowed the Jets to drive 58 yards in the final 24 seconds to tie the game at 10 with a 35-yard field goal.

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

  • Saquon Barkley rushed 36 times for 128 yards, answering the call when the Giants needed him the most.
  • Kayvon Thibodeaux had three sacks for a total loss of 41 yards. He had nine combined tackles on the day and also forced a fumble. He has 8.5 sacks on the season with nine games remaining.
  • Bobby Okereke had another strong game with nine total tackles, three for a loss.

Tight end Darren Waller, who was questionable coming into the game, was taken out in the second quarter after aggravating his sore hamstring. He had one catch for four yards on two targets. His exit left the Giants with one active tight end (Daniel Bellinger).

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor was knocked out of the game midway through the second quarter after getting landed on trying to scramble out of bounds. He left the field in pain and ended up being evaluated at a local hospital with a rib injury. Tommy DeVito, the Giants’ third quarterback, relieved Taylor.

Head coach Brian Daboll will hold a Zoom call with the team’s beat writers on Monday afternoon before a few players are also made available.

Big Blue will return to practice on Wednesday ahead of a Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, November 5 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kickoff is 4:25 p.m. ET.

New York Giants injury report: Daniel Jones remains limited

The New York Giants were back on the practice field on Thursday and little had changed from the day prior. Quarterback Daniel Jones remains limited and was not cleared for contact.

Daniel Jones limited in return to practice

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday and so did quarterback Daniel Jones, who is still nursing a neck injury.

Although Jones is not yet cleared for contact, he was able to do some throwing and could be in play for Sunday, although that should be considered unlikely.

“He’s doing better and he’ll be out here at practice today doing some stuff. We’ll see where we’re at,” head coach Brian Daboll said. “He’s cleared to throw so that’s what he’s going to do today.”

Asked if there’s any concern DJ misses the rest of the season, Daboll said his quarterback will “be back.”

The news wasn’t as positive for several others, including left tackle Andrew Thomas, who continues to sit out with a hamstring injury.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: LT Andrew Thomas (hamstring), OL John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), OL Evan Neal (ankle), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), OL Matt Peart (shoulder)

Limited participant: QB Daniel Jones (neck), RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), CB Cor’Dale Flott (ankle/shoulder), K Graham Gano (knee), OL Mark Glowinski (quad/ankle), CB Adoree’ Jackson (neck), OL Shane Lemieux (groin/biceps)

Full participant: RB Gary Brightwell (ankle), DL D.J. Davidson (knee), CB Tre Hawkins (knee)

How we graded Big Blue in Week 3 loss

Ezra Shaw/Getty Images

The offense was slightly underwhelming on Thursday night but expectations were low from the start.

There is not really too much to hope for when you are out two starting offensive linemen and a Pro Bowl running back facing one of the league’s most ferocious front sevens. While you hoped New York could score more than 12 points, San Francisco does have one of the best defenses in football.

However, that is not to say the offense is without blame. For starters, going 3-of-12 on third downs is almost never going to be conducive to playing winning football. Also, 150 total yards and 3.3 yards per play are just very bad numbers.

From a player standpoint, the loss of Saquon Barkley hurt a lot as Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell can not make up for Barkley’s high-end production. This forced the Giants to abandon the run, leaving Daniel Jones to have to make quick passes.

Jones was pretty decent passing on the day as he completed about 69 percent of his passes but only had 4.3 yards per attempt. You would have loved to see him push it down the field more but San Francisco’s pass rush is too strong for this offensive line to handle.

Jones also did not get much help from his receivers as Darren Waller underperformed, even dropping a pass that caused a nail-in-the-coffin interception.

Outside of Waller, no receiver really got too much separation and this is why Brightwell of all people was leading the team in receiving yards until late in the fourth quarter. Shoring up the offensive line needs to be a priority as the Giants can not run a creative offense without it.
