2024 NFL draft grades for all 32 teams: Who got top marks?

The 2024 NFL draft is in the books, and it was certainly a memorable one kicking off with a chaotic first round that featured an historic run on quarterbacks, wide receivers and offensive tackles, along with trades galore and some surprising picks.

While it’s far too early to evaluate these draft classes in full — considering they haven’t yet along played an NFL game — there’s been plenty of reaction to these 2024 rookie classes. There were several teams that were clear winners while others had some questionable moves that garnered early criticism. But we truly won’t know who won or lost this draft for at least three years.

Our NFL Wire editors shared their initial grades for their respective draft classes. See who got the top marks:

Final 1st-round forecast with major trades up top

Michigan defensive back Mike Sainristil (0) runs the ball around TCU wide receiver Derius Davis (11) after interception during the third quarter in the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 31 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

H3 5720

With two picks in the second round, the Texans must target defense. Defensive tackle remains a priority position of need, but with Newton gone, adding a player like Sainristil is too hard to pass up. When you think of DeMeco Ryans-type guys, the 5-foot-9 national champion is the team captain of that list.

Sainristil would be a consensus first-round pick if he wasn’t limited inside to the slot. That’s not a concern since the nickel position has become one of the more essential needs of a successful defense. The Texans also love players who were locker room leaders at prominent programs. Ask anyone in Ann Arbor about the two-time captain and they’ll say he was just as dire to Michigan’s national title run as Jim Harbaugh and J.J. McCarthy.

Watching Sainristil play is like seeing a Wolverine take the form of a human. How fitting for Hugh Jackman to retire as the character following Deadpool 3 for Sainristil to take over the mantle on Sunday for a championship-caliber defense. – Cole Thompson Texans Wire

Full Giants’ draft order with trade value charts

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

As noted earlier, Johnson created the original NFL Draft value chart during his time with the Cowboys in the early 1990s. With the guidance of Gil Brandt, the Cowboys assigned numerical values to each draft pick to evaluate the worth of picks for potential trades.

The draft value trade chart was created by assigning the highest value to the first pick in the draft, which was 3,000 points.

After that, each pick decreased in value, and at its core, Dallas operated with a competitive advantage until the rest of the NFL caught on.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the old-school Jimmy Johnson trade chart, here’s how the Giants value charts out courtesy of Pro Football Reference.

  • Round 1 (No. 6) – 1,600
  • Round 2 (No. 47, from Seattle) – 430
  • Round 3 (No. 70) – 240
  • Round 4 (No. 107) – 80
  • Round 5 (No. 166, from Carolina) – 25
  • Round 6 (No. 183) – 18

Total value: 2,393

The original chart allows experts or casual fans to break down draft-day deals with an understanding of how trades are constructed.

QBs go 1-2-3-4, trades galore in first round forecast

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (5) catches the ball for an first down against Kansas State Wildcats cornerback Jacob Parrish (10) in the. First quarter of an NCAA college football game, Saturday, November. 4, 2023, in Austin, Texas.

Having traded Stefon Diggs to the Texans for a 2025 second-round pick, having already lost Gabe Davis to the Jaguars in free agency, and with a salary cap situation that no economics professor would approve, the Bills are in heavy rebuild mode. They’ll need to get their next explosive receiver in the draft, and Mitchell aligns nicely with that need. Last season for the Longhorns, he caught 55 passes on 86 targets for 845 yards (15.4 yards per catch), and 11 touchdowns. Eight of those catches were on passes of 20 or more air yards for 302 yards and three touchdowns. WIth Josh Allen throwing him the ball, Mitchell could easily double that total. Mitchell is a full-field receiver with outstanding route acumen, and speed cuts for days to frustrate and confuse enemy defenders. Doug Farrar, Touchdown Wire

ESPN is reportedly pursuing Jason Kelce to replace Robert Griffin III for Monday Night Football coverage

When Jason Kelce announced his retirement from the NFL in early March, the longtime Eagles center knew he’d have no shortage of opportunities in his post-playing career. And we could be nearing an answer on what his life after football will look like.

According to a report from The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, ESPN is pursuing Kelce to serve as an analyst for Monday Night Countdown — the Monday Night Football pregame show. Marchand added that ESPN would likely have Kelce replace Robert Griffin III on the pregame show as ESPN execs think Griffin has “leveled off” since being hired by the network as a “rising star” in 2021.

Via The Athletic:

While Belichick is sought after, Kelce’s decision is viewed as the linchpin of the NFL TV free-agent season. CBS has several openings on “The NFL Today” with Nate Burleson, Bill Cowher, Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms unsigned for next year. James Brown and JJ Watt are inked for the upcoming season, though Watt may continue as a part-timer.

Kelce, who also co-hosts the wildly popular New Heights podcast with his brother Travis, will likely have his pick of the major networks should he decide to go that route. Marchand wrote that CBS and NBC would be conveniently located for Kelce, but ESPN appears aggressive in its pursuit.

New York Giants, Malik Nabers had dinner ahead of LSU Pro Day: Report

Ahead of the LSU Pro Day on Wednesday, the New York Giants reportedly had dinner with one of the top prospects at the wide receiver position in the 2024 NFL draft, Malik Nabers.

The news comes from NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, who notes the two sides had a bite to eat together on Tuesday night. Nabers also met with the New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars, and is slated to meet with the Arizona Cardinals.

Of those five teams, only the Cardinals and Patriots pick ahead of the Giants, who own the No. 6 overall pick in the first round. Both teams figure to be in the market for a wideout, but the Cardinals are more likely to address that need with their first-round pick than the quarterback-needy Patriots.

Wide receiver remains a glaring need for the Giants, as they have yet to adequately address the position in free agency. Adding Nabers, who is a future No. 1 wide receiver, would be a huge addition.

If it isn’t Nabers, the Giants figure to get a crack at one of the other top-three wideouts in this class, a group that also includes Rome Odunze and Marvin Harrison Jr.

However, Odunze is a far more realistic option than Harrison Jr. to be there when the Giants are on the clock.

While wide receiver is the most likely direction the Giants will go with their first-round pick, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them take a quarterback in that spot if they deem one worthy.

New York Giants’ Brian Daboll talks Saquon Barkley leaving for Eagles

Every once in while a player comes along and leaves a lasting impression on a franchise. Such is the case of running back Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants.

Barkley was selected second overall by the Giants in the 2018 NFL draft and had a stellar six-year career with Big Blue, becoming a fan-favorite on and off the field.

But the NFL is a business, and sometimes a harsh one. Barkley was not offered a contract by the Giants and then signed on with the hated Philadelphia Eagles.

Still, the Giants hold no ill feelings. Head coach Brian Daboll knows that player movement is a necessary part of the NFL landscape.

“This is what it is every year in the NFL. You meet great people, whether it’s coaches, players, staff members, and unfortunately everybody doesn’t stick together the entire time, it’s not what it was 30, 40 years ago,” Daboll told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for Saquon and all the players that went on to other places. It’s a special group when you’re going through an NFL season, you’ve got to go through ups and downs,” he added. “Wish him all the best, except when he is playing the Giants.”

The Giants will now move to a running-back-by-committee approach after signing Devin Singletary in free agency to pair with second-year back Eric Gray. They may also target a running back in the draft.

Betting on UNC, NC State, Duke & More With North Carolina Sportsbook Promos & Bonuses

There are so many ways for bettors in NC – and visitors to Charlotte for the NCAA Tournament, can use these North Carolina sportsbook promos.

North Carolina, which earned the No. 1 seed in the West Regional, will be the first of the three teams to hit the floor as the Tar Heels are huge favorites to beat 16th-seeded Wagner on Thursday afternoon in Charlotte.

North Carolina State, which had to win five games in five days at the ACC Tournament just to get into the NCAAs, opens Thursday night against Texas Tech in Pittsburgh. The 11th-seeded Wolfpack are 5.5-point underdogs, but they can win (or at least beat the spread) if they can slow down Texas Tech’s shooters. The Red Raiders are excellent on 3-pointers (36.%) while the Wolfpack haven’t been great at stopping them (34.%.)

Lastly, Duke is the fourth seed in the South Regional and plays its first-round game Friday afternoon against Vermont in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Catamounts are riding high with a 10-game winning streak — and they’re definitely no strangers to the NCAA Tournament — but they only played one high-major opponent all season. They lost by 22 points on Dec. 16 at Virginia Tech, but Duke won by 10 points on Jan. 29 at Virginia Tech. Bet accordingly.

But first, sign up for some of these North Carolina sports betting promos and load up your bankroll for March Madness.
