Virginia girl Aubrey Scaletta returns to stage for ‘Nutcracker’ after nearly losing her feet in accident

A 7-year-old ballerina in Virginia is making huge leaps of progress after nearly losing her feet in a freak accident, according to the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke.

After spending the past several months in the hospital, Aubrey Scaletta, 7, was able to do the unthinkable and dance in ‘The Nutcracker’ after nearly losing both her feet in a freak accident back in May, according to Carilion Clinic.

In a release, Carilion Clinic said Aubrey was on her way home from gymnastics with her dad and twin sister, Grayson, when the unimaginable happened.

Health officials said Scaletta was playing with a ratchet strap when a portion of the strap went out the window and wrapped around the drive shaft.

She was then almost pulled out the window, but instead, the strap severed her feet.

Aubrey was airlifted to the pediatric level one trauma center at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where an orthopedic surgeon and his team acted swiftly.

“When I got the phone call about an hour after the accident, they thought they might have to transfer her out of town, and I said, ‘Hold on a minute. If her feet are salvageable, then her best chance is here with us tonight — not tomorrow, not in six hours, but right here, right now with us,’” Dr. Peter Apel said in the clinic release.

“We had to operate quickly to re-establish blood flow and reattach her feet to her legs. If we would have waited even a few hours, the feet would have died and most certainly would have been amputated.”

Because of Dr. Apel and his team’s swift thinking, they were able to save Aubrey’s feet.

The team performed complex emergency surgery to repair and reattach the bones, arteries, tendons, nerves, and skin, typically a process that would have taken a week of planning with the help of several doctors and surgical team members, according to officials.

“It feels like it was all a bad dream,” said Lauren Scaletta, Aubrey’s mom.

“Even now, it still doesn’t feel like it really happened,” said Lauren Scaletta, Aubrey’s mom.

“I remember right after she got out of the hospital, I was running an errand and I saw a little girl in a dance leotard with her mom, and it struck me that we might never be able to do things like that again. So just being here and watching her do the things she loves makes me constantly say, ‘She’s incredible.’”

The weekend of Dec. 9, Aubrey was able to perform alongside Grayson in “The Nutcracker.”

Dr. Apel stated that Aubrey’s recovery isn’t over, but she’s making great progress.

However, Aubrey’s parents don’t expect anything to slow her down, adding she always finds a way to achieve everything she sets her mind to.

SUV crashes through second floor of California home

This takes car accidents to a new level.

An SUV crashed into a northern California home over the weekend and became lodged in the second-floor roof, authorities said.

Photos of the Sunday evening crash shared by the California Fire Nevada Yuba Placer Unit show the white vehicle resting amid debris on the carport roof of a residence near Colfax, about 45 miles outside of Sacramento.

The vehicle was severely damaged, as was most of the roof and a second-floor window.

Firefighters and other responders worked to stabilize the carport before extricating the vehicle’s occupant, Cal Fire wrote.

Pacific Gas & Electric also shut off power to the area during the risky rescue, WCSC reported.

While the driver was hospitalized, there were no reported injuries to occupants of the home or on-scene workers, Cal Fire said.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Jeremy Renner snowplow incident seen in new animation

A new animation has detailed the moment actor Jeremy Renner was crushed by his 14,000-pound snowplow near his Lake Tahoe home on New Year’s Day.

In his first interview since the near-fatal incident, Renner recalled the horrifying ordeal and how he was hospitalized with 30 broken bones and a collapsed lung.

The simulation, which was seen for the first time during his ABC News interview with Diane Sawyer, shows Renner operating the 1988 Pistenbully snowcat, as his nephew, Alex Fries, hooks a chain from the snowplow to a Ford Raptor they were attempting to move to the snow-cleared street.

“I led in the snowcat with the truck behind it to finish off the last 20-30 yards of the driveway to get it onto the paved area,” Renner told Sawyer about his mission to clear all the snow from the driveway leading up to the house.

Once parked on the street, Fries unhooked the truck from the snowcat, as Renner began to turn around on the icy sloped road.

“I did turn it around, correct,” Renner confirmed. “The cat kept sliding on the icy road because we’re on the paved area but it’s all ice and it kept sliding.”

Renner, driving the snowcat, was moving a pickup truck with his nephew on New Year’s Day.

Concerned that his nephew was too close to the plow, Renner looked outside the cab, keeping one foot inside while placing his other foot on the snowcat’s wet steel rolling tracks — and forgetting to set the parking brake.

“I’m standing on this,” Renner says pointing to the snowcat’s rolling tracks, “I wanted to see where my nephew is, I just happened to be the dummy standing on the dang track a little bit seeing if my nephew’s there.”

“Shouldn’t be [outside] the vehicle when you’re operating. It’s kind of like driving a car with your foot outside the car,” the “Avengers” star says. “It is what it was and it’s my mistake and I paid for it.”

As the plow began to roll down the hill, Renner attempted to jump into the cab to stop it.
ABC

The moving tracks pushed Renner forward, causing the actor to land on his face in front of the 14,000-pound vehicle.
ABC

Renner says the incident all happened fast, not remembering everything but he does know his foot did slip and he fell off the side of the plow as it began to roll.

The Oscar winner attempted to hop back into the cab when he realized his nephew could become sandwiched between the moving plow and truck.

The plow’s tracks pushed Renner forward, causing him to fall flat onto the snow as the plow barreled toward him.

“That’s when I screamed by the way, when I went under the thing ‘not today, motherf–ker,” Renner recalled.

Fries was able to find out at one of the neighbor’s houses, who called 911 as first responders rushed to the aid of the injured actor.

Renner couldn’t remember what exactly led to him laying on the ground but remembers the pain of it happening.

“I was awake through every moment,” Renner said. “It’s exactly like you imagined it would feel like, it’s hard to imagine what that feels like, but if you look at the machine and I was on asphalt and ice. I wish I was on snow.”

“Felt like someone took the wind out of you,” Renner recalls of what he felt. “Too many things are going on in the body to feel, pain is everything, it’s like if your soul could have pain.”

Renner recalled the moment the plow ran him over, saying the pain was everything, like he got his wind knocked out of him.
ABC

The machine rolled over Renner’s entire body, starting from his feet and going up to his head.

“I can see my eye with my other eye, and I remember just seeing stars and a little tar line whatever in this eye,” Renner said pointing to his left eye.

The machine continued down the hill, with Fries still in the path of danger, he hopped into the truck but the snowcat caught him and pushed the truck into a 7-foot snowbank, bringing both the Ford and plow to a stop.

“I look out the window and I see half of the snow machine and then I just perfectly see him in a pool of blood coming from his head,” Fries says of seeing his uncle for the first time.

Not thinking, he ran to his uncle’s side but feared the worse had happened.

“He wasn’t responsive because when I ran up to him I didn’t think he was alive,” Fries recalls of the horrifying incident.

Jay Leno treated inside hyperbaric chamber after suffering third-degree burns

Jay Leno has been treated in a hyperbaric chamber and received skin grafts from donors after he suffered third-degree burns in a freak accident while working on a vintage car.

The 72-year-old actor allowed Inside Edition to film him lying inside the medical device in a blue hospital gown, with his left arm and right hand covered in bandages.

Dr. Peter Grossman, Leno’s physician, explained the importance of the hyperbaric chamber.

“It helps decrease swelling, it helps increase blood flow with good oxygenation and it helps decrease bacteria,” Grossman told Inside Edition.

The former “Tonight Show” host also suffered burns on his face and chest, according to the program.

“He’s had skin grafts that are not his own, meaning the skin we have from a skin bank or a donor, that’s what we do as a first stage,” Grossman said.

Leno, who was scheduled to undergo another surgical procedure this week, has been walking around, cracking jokes and sharing cookies at the Grossman Burn Center, the doctor said.

Jay Leno is seen in the hyperbaric chamber with bandages on his arms after receiving skin grafts.

The hyperbaric chamber decreases swelling, helps increase blood flow and decrease bacteria.

Dr. Peter Grossman described Leno’s injuries as “serious,” but that “his condition is good.”

The comedian faces a lengthy recovery but Grossman noted that “as I’m getting to know Jay, I don’t think it’s gonna be months. I think he’s the kind of guy who’s just gonna move forward.”

He added that the scars will “definitely be visible for the foreseeable future.

“We hope that in the future they will be minimal .Visible or maybe not at all,” he told Inside Edition.

In a press conference Wednesday, Grossman described Leno’s injuries as “serious,” but that “his condition is good.”

Leno has explained that he had been working on his 115-year-old car when a fuel leak and a simultaneous spark in the 1907 White Steam Car triggered an explosion.

He credited his friend Dave with saving him after he was set on fire, as he was standing nearby and immediately jumped on him to smother the flames.

Drunk man gets strangled by python in wild video

He almost shed his mortal coil.

An Indian man is lucky to be alive after getting ssssstrangled by a massive python that he was messing with while intoxicated. Footage of his near-death experience is currently blowing up online.

The literally breath-taking incident occurred after Birjalal Ram encountered an unidentified serpent while fishing in Parihara Panchayat, in Jharkhand, Jam Press reported. Upon spying the constrictor, the angler, who was reportedly inebriated at the time, decided to pick it up and put it around his neck like a living feather boa.

That’s when his scaly new scarf decided to tighten its grip. The entangled man then screamed for help, prompting his 14-year-old son, Nitish, and his buddies to rush to the rescue.

In the accompanying clip, Ram can be seen with his neck and head fully enveloped by the ornate reptile like a sentient Gordian knot. His son and his pals attempt to yank the critter off of him, only for Ram to topple into a nearby river with the python still encircling his throat.

They try several more times to free the victim from the snake’s death grip but to no avail.

After a 20-minute tug-of-war, Nitish was finally able to free his father, who incredibly emerged from the asphyxiating ordeal with only minor injuries.

As for toying with snakes, we suspect that, in retrospect, Ram feels that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.

Either way, the serpent-attack survivor should thank his lucky stars — and his son — that he’s OK.

Teen bull rider dies from heart attack after fall at rodeo in Brazil

An 18-year-old aspiring bull rider had a heart attack and died after suffering a fall during a rodeo in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo last week.

Thiago Castilho was taking part in the Luiz Antônio Rodeo Show at the Gilberto Moreno Permanent Exhibition and Events Park on Thursday evening when tragedy struck.

Video from the event that has been circulating online shows the teen being flung from the bull’s back just eight seconds into the ride, as the Daily Mail reported.

Castilho lost his helmet and fell unconscious to the ground. He was quickly carried away by two men while a third chased off the bull.

The teen, from the city of Brodowski, who dreamed of riding bulls in the US, was rushed to a local hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and died early Friday.

His father, local cop Jean Carlos Castilho, told the Brazilian news outlet G1 that his son had been riding horses since the age of 11, and was riding oxen by the time he turned 16.

The elder Castilho said he would often warn his son about the dangers of bull riding, but he said the youngster was committed to the risky pursuit.

“Unfortunately, that’s what rodeo is all about. It’s a dangerous sport,” Castilho said. “I always said to him, ‘My son, stop it’. (He said), ‘No, father, that’s what I want. If I die one day, I’m going to die happy, I’m going to die riding.’”

Castilho was flung from the bull’s back.
Castilho had been riding bulls since he was 11 years old.

The teen had an aspiring career in the bull riding industry.

Castilho added that his son was happy when he left home to go to the rodeo on Thursday.

Rodeo announcer Ronaldo Xavante told the outlet that the aspiring bull rider was showing a lot of promise and had even caught the attention of several national teams.

The teen was laid to rest in his hometown on Friday afternoon.

Woman impaled by steel rod during monkey attack

Not the kind of belly piercing one hopes for.

A woman incredibly survived after being impaled by a steel rod after plummeting over 20 feet during an alleged monkey attack. Photos showing her inadvertent belly piercing are currently shocking people online.

[Warning: Graphic Images]

The freak accident occurred after the 20-year-old victim, named Khatija, was allegedly accosted by a band of monkeys while standing atop a roof in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jam Press reported.

While attempting to fight her alleged simian assailants off, the poor woman fell off the roof and plummeted 22 feet onto a bar-lined boundary wall, whereupon one of the sharp rods pierced her stomach and back like a human shishkebab.

Unfortunately, Khatija lay there for a full hour before getting discovered by family members, who attempted to cut their impaled relative free. And while they succeeded at separating her from the boundary wall, the other half of the rod remained in her body.

Fearing the worst, the family rushed Khatija to the hospital, where they performed emergency surgery. Accompanying footage shows the patient lying on a bed with the steel stake sticking in one end of her midsection and out the other like a ghoulish spike piercing.

Thankfully, doctors were able to remove the bar and the Khatija “out of danger at this time” according to the presiding surgeon Dr Shishir Jaiswal. However, it’s yet unclear if she will make a full recovery, Jam Press reported.

Officials also have yet to confirm if the patient fell due to an altercation with angry monkeys, however aggressive macaques have been responsible for frequent attacks throughout India.

In a more serious incident in July in Bareilly, a troop of wild monkeys stole a baby from his father and tossed the boy from a third-story rooftop, killing him instantly.
