Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Alleged Hands-on Images Suggest Flat Display and Rear Panel

Samsung’s Galaxy S series of smartphones has been quite popular since its inception. The anticipation for this year’s Galaxy S24 Ultra is high, with the Galaxy S23 Ultra being one of the best Android smartphones of 2023 (Review). Most recently, we got our first look at the Galaxy S24 Ultra through leaked renders. Now, alleged hands-on images have surfaced online that appear to show a silver colour variant of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It looks exactly like its predecessor but with a flat screen and back.

Tipster David Martin (@DavidMa05368498) posted alleged live images of the Galaxy S24 Ultra on X offering us a good look at what to expect from the flagship handset. It is seen with the flat back panel and a flat display. It appears to have a quad camera setup on the rear with all four cameras housed inside separate metal rings. The physical buttons are all located on the right-hand side of the handset, and there’s also a center-hole punch selfie camera in the display. For the most part, it looks exactly like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The S Pen is arranged at the bottom of the handset and protrudes slightly.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra recently appeared on the BIS website with model number SM-S928B/DS. It was also spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking platform with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Samsung is expected to use a tweaked version of the chip on the upcoming phone with overclocked GPU and CPU cores. It is said to come in 12GB RAM + 256GB and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage configurations.

Samsung is expected to pack a quad rear camera unit on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, comprising a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel periscope camera, a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle shooter, and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor. It is likely to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. The handset might also feature a titanium frame.

As per past leaks, Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event will take place in San Jose, US on January 17, 2024. The brand will reportedly start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra on the same day and general sales could begin on January 30.

Elon Musk’s X Could Lose Nearly $75 Million in Ad Revenue by Year-End: Report

Elon Musk-owned social media company X could lose as much as $75 million (nearly Rs. 625 crore) in advertising revenue by the end of the year as dozens of major brands pause their marketing campaigns, the New York Times reported on Friday.

Musk backing an antisemitic post on the platform last week has led several companies including Walt Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery to pause their advertisements on the site formerly called Twitter

X has struck back and sued media watchdog group Media Matters, alleging the organization defamed the platform with a report that said ads for major brands including Apple and Oracle had appeared next to posts touting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party.

Internal documents viewed by The New York Times this week list more than 200 ad units of companies from the likes of Airbnb, Amazon, Coca-Cola and Microsoft, many of which have halted or are considering pausing their ads on the social network, the report said.

X said on Friday $11 million (nearly Rs. 92 crore) in revenue was at risk and the exact figure fluctuated as some advertisers returned to the platform and others increased spending, according to the report.

The company did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Advertisers have fled X since Musk bought it in October 2022 and reduced content moderation, resulting in a sharp rise in hate speech on the site, according to civil rights groups.

The platform’s US ad revenue has declined at least 55 percent year-over-year each month since Musk’s takeover, Reuters previously reported.

The Archies Cast, Zoya Akhtar, Fans Get Together in Special ‘Flight to Riverdale’ Ahead of Netflix Release

The Archies, Zoya Akhtar’s coming-of-age musical, is set to release on Netflix on December 7. Inspired by iconic characters from Archie comics, with an Anglo-India spin, The Archies boasts a cast of star kids, including Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, and Khushi Kapoor, among others. Ahead of the film’s release, airline service Vistara has collaborated with Netflix for ‘Flight to Riverdale,’ a special UK 1964 flight, which will host the cast of the film, select fans and Club Vistara members for an Archie experience.

The flight took off from Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, at 2:40 pm and arrived at Manohar International Airport, Goa, at 5:15 pm on Friday. The aeroplane itself offered an authentic Archie experience with retro-themed décor that matched the film’s aesthetics. According to a press release, fans on the special flight also received specially curated meals and beverages, customised Vistara and Netflix giveaways, along with the chance to meet and travel with the film’s cast.

Along with the cast, director Zoya Akhtar and co-writer Reema Kagti were also present on the flight. The press release also noted that the cast was present in character during the flight — Suhana Khan as Veronica Lodge, Khushi Kapoor as Betty Cooper, Agastya Nanda as Archie Andrews, Aditi Saigal as Ethel Muggs, Vedang Raina as Reggie Mantle, Mihir Ahuja as Jughead Jones, and Yuvraj Menda as Dilton Doiley.

Commenting on the collaboration, Deepti Sampat, Vice President – Marketing, Vistara, said, “We are delighted to be the first Indian airline to partner with Netflix to curate a journey down memory lane with our special ‘Flight to Riverdale’. Vistara Retrojet, with its nostalgic charm, not only transports us back to a golden era but also propels us into a future where the boundaries between cinema and air travel seamlessly merge, offering passengers an experience that transcends the ordinary. UK 1964 will surely leave a permanent trail of enduring memories while also evoking nostalgia.”

In August, Netflix unveiled the release date for The Archies. The streaming platform also dropped a trailer for the upcoming film earlier this month, showcasing its story, cast of characters, and candy-coloured aesthetics.

Set in the 1960s, The Archies reimagines popular characters from the titular comic books and drops them in the imaginary idyllic town of Riverdale in India. It follows the lives of Archie and their friends navigating friendship, heartbreak, rebellion, school protests, dance parties, and more. Akhtar is co-producing The Archies movie via her own Tiger Baby Films banner with Sharad Devarajan’s Graphics India. The Archies comes out on December 7 on Netflix.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition Unveiled: See Price, Availability

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 was launched in July this year alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The phones are powered by custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoCs and come with an IPX8 rating for dust and water resistance. The South Korean tech giant previously introduced the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in an additional colour option in addition to the variants it was initially launched with. The company also unveiled a Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro Edition model which launched as a homage to the Samsung E700. Now, in their second collaboration with the French luxury fashion house, after the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the firm has recently unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition.

Samsung announced that the Maison Margiela Edition of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available for purchase in select regions. Available in a 512GB storage variant, the handset will be offered at KRW 2,497,000 (roughly Rs. 1,59,500) through a lottery on the official Samsung site.

To participate in the lottery, interested users can apply through the Samsung site from 9am to 5pm local time (5:30am to 1:30pm IST) on November 30. The winners of the draw will be announced on December 1, at 9am local time (5:30am IST). The model is being showcased in South Korea at Samsung Gangnam and Samsung Hongdae stores starting November 23. A limited number of this Maison Margiela version of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be sold to buyers in China, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5’s Maison Margiela edition claims to take inspiration from its deconstructive yet refined design style in the fashion world. The phone comes in a big box resembling archival storage containers used in atelier stores to preserve various fabric samples and threads. The box is wrapped in a woven book cloth fabric and features Maison Margiela’s signature jacket on the back. It comes bundled with two cases — a Flap Leather Case and a Flipsuit Case.

This clamshell foldable version also comes with two exclusive wallpapers — Stitches and Trompe-L’oeil. The Stitches wallpaper features handwoven stitches on the cover and inner screens, while the Trompe-L’oeil wallpaper depicts the inner workings of a garment. A 25W charger and a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable are also included in the three-tiered packaging box.

The company has not yet confirmed the arrival of this model in India. The base Galaxy Z Flip 5 model starts in India at Rs. 1,54,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. It is offered in Cream, Graphite, Mint, Lavender and Yellow colour options. It comes with a 6.7-inch full-HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex primary display with an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, while the outer screen comes with a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED folder-shaped panel with a refresh rate of 60Hz. The phone also has a 10-megapixel front camera sensor.

Facebook, YouTube Said to Be Warned Against Misuse of Deepfakes by Indian Government

India’s government on Friday warned social media firms including Facebook and YouTube to repeatedly remind users that local laws prohibit them from posting deepfakes and content that spreads obscenity or misinformation, two sources told Reuters.

The warning was conveyed by deputy IT minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar in a closed-door meeting where he said many companies had not updated their usage terms despite 2022 rules that prohibit content “harmful” to children, obscene or that “impersonates another person”.

It comes amid growing concerns over deepfakes — realistic yet fabricated videos created by artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms trained on online footage — which a top minister this week said this week India is drawing up rules to address.

Chandrasekhar said the companies must raise awareness of the rules by reminding users every time they log in that they cannot post such content, or by issuing reminders.

He said otherwise he will issue directions forcing them to do so, said the two sources, who declined to be named as the meeting was private.

The minister described it as a “non-negotiable” demand of the Indian government during the meeting, said one of the sources.

India’s IT ministry said in a press statement all platforms had agreed to align their content guidelines with government rules.

Facebook and Chandrasekhar did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Alphabet’s Google, which owns YouTube, said in a statement it was committed to responsible AI development and has robust policies and systems to identify and remove harmful content across its products and platforms.

The Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have raised concerns over deepfakes in recent days.

During a virtual summit of G20 nations on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi called on global leaders to jointly work towards regulating AI, and raised concerns over the negative impact of deepfakes on society.

Countries across the world are racing to draw up rules to regulate AI. India has been tightening regulations of social media companies, which count the South Asian nation as a top growth market.

Last year, the government privately criticized the companies for not removing what it described as fake news on their sites, which it said had forced it to order content takedowns.

Apple Watch Ultra Prototype With Black Ceramic Back Allegedly Appears in FCC Images

Apple’s 49mm Watch Ultra 2 was launched at the company’s Far Out event in September. Now, a new Apple Watch Ultra model has been allegedly spotted on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website, hinting that its launch could be around the corner. The early renders of the prototype from FCC suggest a rugged exterior for the rumoured wearable. It is seen with a black ceramic back panel. It’s Action Button has a different design than of the Apple Watch Ultra.

An X ( formerly Twitter) user @ParrotSWD has posted alleged renders of the Apple Watch Ultra prototype from the FCC listing. The wearable is seen with a black ceramic rear case in the images and is identical to other Apple Watch Series models. It has a rugged exterior but the Action Button appears to have a different design than of the Apple Watch Ultra. The button seems to be made of plastic rather than metal. Both Apple Watch Ultra and Watch Ultra 2 feature a Titanium case. It is unclear which models of the Apple Watch Ultra the renders represent, but the design downgrades hint at the development of a possible affordable Apple Watch Ultra model.

That being said, we are not sure whether Apple would bring a new affordable Watch Ultra with a different design. The company may reveal its plan soon, until then, we will have to wait for other details to surface on the Web.

Apple’s second-generation Watch Ultra 2 is currently available in India for Rs. 89,900. It is offered with Alpine Loop, Trail Loop, and Ocean band options.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 was launched in September during the Far Out event alongside the Apple Watch Series 9. It features a 49mm case with a Retina display that offers up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. It runs on watchOS 10 and has Apple’s custom S9 SiP under the hood. It supports a diving depth of 40 meters and is claimed to deliver up to 36 hours of battery life during normal use and a maximum of 72 hours of battery life in Low Power Mode.
