Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition to Have Wider Rollout, Offer More Colour Options: Report

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition in October last year, only a couple of months after unveiling the regular Galaxy Z Flip 3. The Bespoke Edition did not offer any specifications upgrade. It only allowed customers to mix and match various colour options for the back panel and the handset frame. According to a new report, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 would also get a similar treatment when it eventually launches later this year. The South Korean tech giant is expected to offer more colour options than the special edition Galaxy Z Flip 3.

As per a report by Sammobile, Samsung is likely to also launch the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition after the regular version arrives as expected on August 10. When the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition was unveiled in October last year, it allowed customers to select separate colours for the top and bottom half of the rear panel. Customers have the option to pick between a matte black or glossy frame along with a possible 49 colour combinations. This report suggests that the company could offer even more colour options for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition might also get a wider release in comparison to its predecessor, which is currently available only to customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Korea, the UK, and the US. This time Samsung is expected to go for other leading markets in Europe and Asia as well. It is expected to be made available to purchase online from the official Samsung site.

There is still not much known about the specifications of the Galaxy Z Flip 4. A recent report suggested that this handset could offer up to 512GB of onboard storage, which is expected to have a launch price of $1,100 (roughly Rs. 86,000). It could also be powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.

Are the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 still made for enthusiasts — or are they good enough for everyone? We discussed this on Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Orbital is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music and wherever you get your podcasts.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Survives Durability Test, Outlasts Over 418,000 Folds

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 was launched in August last year and is claimed to outlast 2,00,000 folds or around five years of use if folded and unfolded 100 times a day. In a new video, a YouTuber stresses the durability of the foldable phone by putting it through the folding test and a couple of drops where it has proved to be durable. These test rounds show how resistive the handset is from regular drops and how well it handles dust and water. The folding test video of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 testifies that the phone managed to reach more than 4,18,000 folds and unfolds before refusing to stay closed or fully open. The hinge remains unfazed, closing and opening the phone effortlessly.

Polish YouTuber Mrkeybrd has released a 12-minute video on YouTube that covers multiple test rounds to rigorously examine the durability of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. The folding test which started on June 8 and ended on June 13 was livestreamed. During the test, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was folded 4,18,503 times before it failed to stay open or closed. Even though, the display seemed unaffected. This number is more than double of the 2,00,000 folds claimed by Samsung.

Watch the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 ‘s durability test

Apart from the hinge, the durability of the display was also tested. The YouTuber dropped the phone multiple times on a concrete surface and the fingerprint scanner continues to work seamlessly even after several scratches. From the fifteenth drop, the foldable device started showing issues with a visible mark on the hinge.

According to the YouTuber, the phone was also subjected to a water test to see how well Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 could work with moisture. The phone is IPX8 rated for water resistance and is made of Samsung’s Armor Aluminum. On a whole, last year’s foldable phone performs well in the durability test.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 was unveiled in India in August last year with a starting price tag of Rs. 84,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage option. The top-end 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model was launched for Rs. 88,999. The Flip 3 model comes in Phantom Black and Cream colours.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro Names Pop Up in Health App, Said to Include Temperature Sensor

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series has been part of the rumour mill for quite some time now. Ahead of the official announcement, a latest beta version of the Samsung Health app has revealed details about the wearables. The latest development confirms the existence of the Galaxy Watch 5 series and the absence of the Classic branding. It is also likely to come with a temperature sensor, despite previous rumours. The upcoming smartwatch series is expected to be unveiled alongside the foldable smartphones later this year.

References to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro in the latest Samsung Health beta (v6.22.0.069) were spotted by 9to5Google. A screenshot shared by the publication showing list of compatible smartwatches of the health tracking app misses the Classic edition. As per the report, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will have a sportier design similar to the Galaxy Watch 4.

Separately, according to a user report on Reddit, the Samsung Health beta features a toggle for “Skin temperature during sleep”. This could be used for sleep cycle tracking purposes. This is despite previous rumours that Samsung could skip sensors capable of detecting body temperature from the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 range. Noted analyst Ming-chi Kuo also earlier suggested that Samsung might not be able to add a thermometer feature that can be used to track skin temperature, to its upcoming wearables.

Recent leaks have implied that the rotating bezel, which is useful in controlling apps and menus is going to be dropped from the upcoming wearables. These circular and rotating bezels were available on the Classic models of the Galaxy Watch 4.

Samsung is yet to announce the details regarding the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series. It is expected to be unveiled either in August or September along with Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Google Pixel 7 Series to Use Samsung-Made 2nd Generation Tensor SoC: Report

Samsung will be making the second generation of Google Tensor SoC that will be used in the Google Pixel 7 series of smartphones, as per a report. The series, which is expected to get Pixel 7 as well as Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, was showcased at this year’s Google I/O event and is to be launched later this year. It is to be noted that Google’s latest generation of smartphones use the first generation of Google Tensor SoC, which is also manufactured by Samsung.

As per a report by Korean publisher ddaily, Samsung will mass-produce the second generation Google Tensor SoC, which will be used on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, from June. The Google phones are expected to launch in October. Furthermore, the report claims that the next-generation of the SoC will be manufactured on a 4nm process. The current generation SoC in the Pixel 6, the Pixel 6 Pro, and the Pixel 6a is made on a 5nm process.

Samsung is reported to use panel level package (PLP) technology to manufacture second-generation Google Tensor SoC. It is a technique in which chips cut from a wafer are placed on a rectangular panel, thereby, minimising the discarded edge, reducing cost, and improving productivity. As per a report in February, the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are said to be powered by Google Tensor GS201 SoC, which could be accompanied by a new Samsung Exynos 5300 modem whose details have not been revealed by the South Korean company.

As mentioned, the Google Pixel 7 series was teased at the Google I/O keynote event. Google said that the smartphones will run on Android 13 out-of-the-box, and will have next-generation Tensor SoC. The company also showcased the smartphone’s design, which shows the bar-shaped rear camera module, which will be made of aluminium, instead of glass like on the current Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models.
