Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event for Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 Set for July 10: Report

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is likely to take place after a couple of months, according to a report. The latest leak related to the company’s next launch event is in line with previous reports that suggested the company would introduce new foldable handsets, the purported Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, at the event in early July. Foldables aren’t the only devices expected to be launched at the firm’s next Galaxy Unpacked event — Samsung’s new Galaxy Ring is also tipped to make its debut.

A SamMobile report citing multiple anonymous sources states that Samsung will hold its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10. The event will reportedly be held in Paris, and will take place ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics (Paris 2024) that are scheduled to begin on July 26. Samsung typically unveils new Galaxy Z series phones in the US, but made an exception in 2023 by holding the launch event in South Korea.

This year, Samsung is tipped to launch three foldable phones (it typically unveils two models) at its next Galaxy Unpacked event. The company could launch two book-style Galaxy Z Fold models, alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, which is a clamshell-style foldable. The rumoured Galaxy Z Fold 6 ‘Ultra’ model is expected to arrive with hardware upgrades and a higher price tag, and might not be available in some markets.

At its next Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung is also expected to reveal more details about the Galaxy Ring, the company’s first miniature wearable with fitness tracking features. The company first teased the wearable device at its first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year, where it launched the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones. It also showed off the design of the Galaxy Ring at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024) in February.

Other devices that are rumoured to be in development, such as the Galaxy Watch 7 series and the Galaxy Tab S10 lineup could also be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Meanwhile, Samsung has also been working on an extended reality (XR) headset — the Samsung Galaxy XR — that could be launched at the event as a competitor to the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Could Use Same Cameras as Galaxy Z Fold 5; Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra May Offer New Setup

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup is expected to get upgraded into a series this year. While we are yet to hear about any solid hardware specifications about the new ‘Ultra’-branded Galaxy Z foldable, there have been plenty of leaks about the standard model, which is currently tagged as the Galaxy Z Fold 6. While Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 was mainly an incremental upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 4 (which was a much bigger leap over the Galaxy Z Fold 3), there’s now news that the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 will get the same cameras as the currently available Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) put out a post on X explaining that the camera setup on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 model will be identical to what’s already available on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The tipster adds that this applies not just to the rear camera setup but the front camera (embedded in the cover display) and the under display camera (embedded into the main folding display) as well.

In a reply to the original tweet, the tipster mentions that Samsung will introduce different cameras with the more premium Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra model, without specifying any details. According to a previous report these could be borrowed from the currently available Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone which is the top-end camera-centric offering from Samsung.

Samsung fans may find this news a bit hard to digest given that the previous model barely saw any feature add-ons compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, yet this move is not a surprising one. Samsung has been following a similar strategy with its Galaxy S24 models, offering SoC or performance upgrades while keeping the rest of the hardware intact from older models. A good example is this year’s Galaxy S24, which has a camera setup that is identical to last year’s Galaxy S23, and the one that came before.

Meanwhile, the competition especially in India is only increasing with recent entrants like OnePlus adding book-style foldables to the existing selection of flippables from Oppo and Motorola. This year, Vivo too is said to bring its Vivo X Fold 3 to India, a slim, camera-focussed foldable that was recently announced for the Chinese market.

A recent report suggested even more similarities between the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the current Galaxy Z Fold 5 model. The information, which comes from the same source as above, hinted that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will offer the same 4,400mAh battery along with 25W wired charging speeds as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 model. The Galaxy Z Fold 4, which was launched in 2022 also offers the same battery capacity and charging rate.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Tipped to Get Both Snapdragon, Exynos SoC; Galaxy Z Fold 6 May Use Titanium Frame

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are expected to break cover in early July and new leaks suggesting the specifications of the next-generation foldables have surfaced on the Web. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is said to feature either an Exynos SoC or a Snapdragon chip, depending on the region. This move could align with the recent release of the Galaxy S24 series. It could feature a cover screen with 120Hz refresh rate and up to 512GB of storage. Additionally, the book-style foldable is tipped to come with a titanium frame. Samsung also used a titanium frame on the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Tipster Kro (@kro_roe) on X claimed that Samsung may use both Snapdragon and Exynos SoC in the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Earlier this year, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ arrived in India with the Exynos 2400 processor, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC powered the phones in regions like the US and Canada. The company is expected to follow a similar strategy for the next-generation flip phone. Samsung has consistently used Snapdragon processors for its Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip phones.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6’s cover screen is said to have 120Hz refresh rate. It is tipped to come in two RAM — 8GB,12GB — and two storage —256GB, 512GB — options. This would be an upgrade over the standard 8GB RAM available on Galaxy Z Flip 5. The tipster also claims that the handset will have a longer battery.

Additionally, tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) on X said that Samsung will release the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with a titanium frame. The company has used titanium on the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra’s frame instead of Aluminium. Apple has also used titanium on its latest iPhone 15 Pro series.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 launch is expected to take place in July. Therefore, we can expect to hear more about the foldables in the coming months.

Samsung’s Cheaper Galaxy Foldable to Cost a Lot Less and Use Cameras From Existing Models: Report

Samsung’s upcoming foldable Unpacked event (whenever Samsung decides on a schedule) will be an interesting one. While foldables are starting to get popular in the premium segment Samsung’s now facing competition from brands like Huawei, Oppo, and OnePlus in the global market. As per recent leaks, Samsung may be well-prepared this year by adding another tier to its book-style foldables lineup. The Korean manufacturer is said to be preparing the launch of two foldables, one of which will also include an ‘Ultra’ moniker this year. On the other hand, there’s also news of an affordable foldable, but little is known about it, apart from the rumours that Samsung is working on such a lower-priced model. Now, there’s more information about this cheaper book-style foldable model, and it allegedly comes from industry sources and the supply chain.

According to a Korean publication called Sisa Journal, Samsung is expected to launch its affordable foldable in 2024 itself. This is keeping in mind that an earlier report hinted that Samsung could push the launch of its affordable foldable to a later date and only launch the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 along with the expected Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra model at its usual mid-year Unpacked event.

Furthermore, the report states that Samsung will have to lower the specifications of this affordable foldable with a watered-down applications processor, display and battery. However, the source citing supply chain and industry sources claims that the cheaper foldable’s camera specifications will remain similar to existing foldable models, which currently includes just the Galaxy Z Fold 5. In short, Samsung’s cheaper foldable will cut down on raw performance, but still pack a bunch of capable (or premium) cameras.

The new affordable model is expected to have a dual camera module, parts of which will be borrowed from existing foldables devices. The report also claims that the supply chain will also remain intact (or as before) for Samsung’s 6th generation of foldable devices. However, the industry expects the volumes of production to be increased given that the affordable model is expected to sell in higher numbers than the premium models.

As for its price, industry sources claim that the phone will cost around $800 (roughly Rs. 66,000 before taxes), which is a lot lower than what most of us expected a budget book-style foldable to cost in 2024. This is less than half of what the cheapest Galaxy Fold 5 variant is priced at in India.

The push for an affordable foldable indeed makes plenty of sense given that Huawei too has recently launched several models designed to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5, which is still a lot chubbier in comparison to newer devices like the OnePlus Open that was launched in global markets like India late last year.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6 Tipped to Be Available In These Colourways

Samsung is believed to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 in the second half of this year. Leaked unofficial renders gave us our first look at the company’s latest flagship Galaxy Z Fold 6 last month. Now, DSCC analyst Ross Young has shed light on the colour options of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The book-style foldable is said to come in three colour options, while the clamshell foldable phone could be offered in four distinct colourways. They are expected to include upgrades over the current Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (March 7) claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be available in three colour options — dark blue, light pink, and silver. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is said to come in light blue, light green, silver, and yellow colourways.

To recall, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is offered in Cream, Icy Blue, and Phantom Black colour options. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is available in Cream, Graphite, Lavender, and Mint shades.

As per past leaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will sport a 6.2-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner display. It could measure 153.5 x 132.5 x 6.1mm. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is expected to get a 3.9-inch cover panel. The Galaxy AI features available in the Galaxy S24 series could also land on the new foldables.

Leaked renders of Galaxy Z Fold 6 suggested a boxier design with squared edges. It indicated bigger inner and outer displays for the foldable with a centrally aligned hole-punch cutout on display and triple rear cameras.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are expected to go official in either July or August. The Galaxy Unpacked for the sixth generation Galaxy Z foldables is rumoured to take place in Paris.

Samsung to Hold Its Next Galaxy Unpacked Launch Event in Paris at an Earlier Than Usual Date: Report

Unofficial renders of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z series foldables have started showing up online, which indicate that we are possibly nearing the launch. However, Samsung has yet to officially drop any hints about the launch. Still, there’s more news from the rumour mill, this time coming from a publication which claims that Samsung will not only launch its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 earlier in July, but also launch it in a new location, Paris.

According to a Korean publication TheBell, Samsung will launch or announce its 6th generation Galaxy Z foldables in mid-July. This is a bit different from a more recent leak by SamMobile which claimed that the foldables will be announced in early July instead. According to the Korean publication, the new launch timeline is about 3-4 weeks earlier than Samsung’s usual Galaxy Z series launch. The South Korean giant is reportedly doing this to target the European market and the launch also happens to fall in line with the 2024 Summer Olympics which takes place in Paris (France) on July 26.

As for the location, it too is a bit unusual, but the reasons given above seem to back this up well. Samsung has traditionally held its Galaxy Z series Unpacked events in the US. Last year was an exception with Samsung holding the launch event in its home market, Seoul (South Korea).

There’s also new information about the rumoured cheaper variant of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. As per a recent report, Samsung is expected to announce a new ‘Ultra’ model of the Galaxy Z Fold, adding another tier to its foldables lineup this year. While this new model is said to have a new design with better camera capabilities, the more reasonably priced foldable will cut down on a few features.

As for the new and more affordable model, Samsung is expected to bring down the price of this upcoming foldable by removing digitizers that recognise the S Pen’s movement. However, the benefits of this for bringing down the manufacturing cost has yet to be proved as the existing Galaxy Z Flip series also does not offer the same, but is still quite expensive to produce. Samsung is reportedly also exploring options to automate its foldable lineup to reduce assembly costs.

Lastly, the report also hints that the new affordable foldable may not be announced or released alongside the usual foldable models in July this year. There is a chance that Samsung may release the product separately in the fourth quarter of the year. The new expected models are said to focus on improved hinge durability with reduced thickness. Samsung will reportedly stick to Qualcomm for processors to drive the new existing models, like on the Galaxy S24 series.

According to the same source, Samsung is reportedly requesting suppliers to complete quality testing of its new Galaxy Z foldable range by April itself. It also claims that suppliers should have no problems releasing the new products in 2-3 months. The original deadline was reportedly set for June. Samsung is also not expected to show off any new foldable designs this year.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Said to Offer Slimmer Titanium Design but Will Avoid Dedicated S-Pen Slot: Details

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 has seen a barrage of rumours and leaks off late. Some of these are conflicting while others seem more believable given the brand’s rather relaxed stance on foldables despite plenty of new competition in the same space. The Korean brand’s Galaxy S series this year saw a noticeable switch from going big on specifications to a deeper focus on generative AI-features and we expect the same to happen with its foldable series this year as well. However, unlike regular slate-like smartphones, foldables are all about design. And the latest set of rumours attempt to point out what exactly has changed between the Z Fold 5 and the yet to be announced Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The latest set of rumours come from two sources but appear to point out the same changes. The first set of freshly leaked information comes from X (formerly Twitter) by Chun Bhai (@chunvn8888) who points out that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 just like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will not have a silo for its S-Pen. Just like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, one can expect the new S-Pen to be sold and mounted on an optional case. There have been several reports about Samsung attempting to create a thinner S-Pen that can fit inside the Galaxy Z Fold’s rather slim frame (when unfolded), but it seems like it won’t happen in 2024. However, a recent patent by Samsung also revealed other ideas like snapping the S-Pen onto a side (or back) of the foldable or even making it a detachable part of the foldable’s outer frame. So, it’s hard to dismiss that the S-Pen may not end up being mounted to the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s frame in some way or the other.

Chun Bhai also states that the phone’s overall dimensions may remain the same as before, with the phone getting a bit wider and possessing the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s sharper styling along with its use of titanium, which could make it lighter. In terms of core hardware, the source states that the Galaxy Fold 6 will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a 4,600mAh battery, and triple rear camera setup.

The second bit comes from Naver by a poster called yeux1122 who’s findings are largely similar to the one above, but with more detail. In the post, the tipster explains that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will offer an improved UTG main display, a stronger hinge with reduced thickness, and an improved under display camera as well. The post also states that the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be similar to the newer Galaxy S24 series.

The source further adds that the ratio of the cover display is expected to change and could be largely similar to what Chinese competitors (OnePlus Open, Vivo X Fold 2 and more) currently have on offer. These changes are quite different compared to the more drastic design changes mentioned in a previous report, which almost appeared like a redesign with wider Pixel Fold-like appearance.

This source also mentions that the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s cameras will remain similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with improvements coming mainly from the new ISP. This again is very different from a recent rumour which stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may have the same camera setup as on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, its camera flagship.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Flip 6 Display Details Emerge Suggesting Design Changes

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are surely shaping up to be interesting foldables given the slew of recent leaks. The phones are expected to be announced mid-way in the coming year and will replace the currently available Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, which have seen mostly iterative updates over their respective predecessors. There’s now a new leak that once again sheds light on the display aspect ratios of Samsung’s upcoming foldables, suggesting some design-related information in the process.

The leaked information comes from a post on Naver, a Korean blogging site, in which a tipster states that Samsung’s upcoming foldables will have different display aspect ratios compared to their respective outgoing models. The source in the short post hints that Samsung is working with a foldable smartphone display with a different aspect ratio compared to the currently available Galaxy Z Fold 5, adding that this device will be released as the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

As per the source, the changes brought to the inner display will also affect the design of the outer cover display. Indirectly, one can also expect the overall look and feel of the foldable to change as well, as changes to the displays will affect the cosmetic design of the end product.

Despite mentioning the aspect ratio, the tipster did not give out the aspect ratio of the upcoming foldable’s display. The leaked information as per the source comes from supply chain sources, hinting that it could be accurate.

The tipster also mentions details about the Galaxy Z Flip 6 stating that it too is expected to see some changes when announced. However, these changes are mainly to do with the inner display’s bezel, which the source claims will appear thinner than the outgoing model. The new cover display on the current Galaxy Z Flip 5 that sports a odd-shaped folder like design is also set to get some noticeable changes.

While an older report did mention larger displays for the upcoming Samsung foldables, the new leak surely hints at some much-welcomed changes. In the case of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, we can expect a complete redesign with a different form factor altogether keeping a refreshed display aspect ratio in mind. The Galaxy Z Fold 5’s taller, remote-control-like cover display is not exactly usable as a regular smartphone, like on the Google Pixel Fold or the OnePlus Open (Review), so we are hoping that this new aspect ratio brings users some relief from the current, crammed typing experience.

As for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, there’s plenty to improve on despite the bigger cover display update we experienced this year. The cover display desperately needs thinner bezels to match-up with the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra‘s edge-to-edge cover display. The same can be said about its inner folding display that can also be a bit broader like Oppo’s recently launched Find N3 Flip which should again make for more comfortable typing.

Samsung Files Patent Describing New Ways to Mount Its S Pen to a Foldable Device: Report

With Huawei’s foldable devices getting slimmer and setting new standards with every launch, Samsung sure seems to be feeling the pinch after taking it easy and going with iterative design updates for the past few years. And it did make plenty of sense since Samsung still is the dominant player in the foldables space. But the landscape for foldable smartphones, especially the ones with the horizontal layouts is changing, with the launch of the Google Pixel Fold and the OnePlus Open this year. OnePlus has even launched its latest foldable in India, a market that was until now dominated by Samsung when it came to foldables. New players entering the foldables space sure seems to have Samsung on its toes with a publication recently claiming that Samsung is “reverse engineering” the Huawei Mate X5 in order to figure out ways to make the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold slimmer. While we would all love to see a slimmer Galaxy Z Fold model next year, Samsung’s new patent also sheds light on the company’s efforts to integrate its S Pen stylus into its foldable.

The patent was first pointed out by Studimo in collaboration with David Kowalski and it reveals some interesting design philosophies that Samsung is working on to integrate its unique S Pen stylus into its foldables lineup. The patent in detail describes how Samsung aims to keep its foldable as slim as possible while integrating its S Pen, a task which isn’t easy given how thick the current S Pen is. Earlier this year, Samsung even announced a new case for its Galaxy Z Fold 5, that had a slimmer S Pen mounted into it making it a lot slimmer than last year’s case for the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

One layout shows a stylus attached to one side of the foldable (as a part of its frame) while another shows it mounted to the back of the device, which would be similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab series and Microsoft’s Surface Duo devices. There are also details revealing changes to the S Pen’s design itself, with some designs showing more than one button and some having even three buttons along the stylus’ side.

Previous reports have hinted at the need for a slimmer S Pen design, which would make it a lot easier to integrate, via a silo in the foldable’s body itself. This would be similar to the S Pen’s current implementation in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, the same report also states that previous efforts to do so have failed as the device ended up becoming quite thick. Indeed, the newly explored side-mounted layout seems to be a better choice, and also allows for slimmer foldable designs.

The rumour mill has so far had very conflicting information about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6. With some reports indicating a new screen layout with a different aspect ratio, while others hint at a familiar design but with an integrated S Pen as seen in some leaked images of prototype versions of the Galaxy Z Fold. There’s also information about more affordable Galaxy Z FE lineup which is rumoured to launch alongside the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold series lineup, which should compete with the new generation of affordable foldables like the Tecno Phantom V Fold, Tecno Phantom V Flip (Review), and the Motorola Razr 40.
