Pornhub takeover is about tech — not sex: sources

Yes, it’s true – a buyout firm called Ethical Capital Partners has bought the parent company of Pornhub – and some insiders say the deal isn’t about sex, but tech.

In a press release, Canada-based Ethical declared that the giant smut site’s parent company, MindGeek – which has spent the past few years fending off accusations of sex-trafficking and child porn – was “built upon a foundation of trust, safety, and compliance.”

But what may be still more surprising to some, according to industry insiders, is the fact that technology could be a key driver for the deal – and that tech could help solve ethical issues that have dogged porn since the beginning, even as it boosts the bottom line.

In particular, some believe that human porn stars are destined to become a relic of the past – as outdated as the mustaches and perfunctory plot lines that riddled porn flicks in the 70s and 80s – and that they’ll be replaced by computer-generated stars.

“Every major piece of technological change is mastered by porn first: from VHS tapes to DVDs to internet video—all became popularized because of porn.”

“And now the same thing is happening with generative AI and deep fakes — buying this is a great way to get into this business before most porn is computer generated and dramatically reducing the costs of content creation.”

The source adds that in a few years creating pornography could cost almost nothing — and ECP could end up with an asset that requires little investment to run and generates significant revenues.

Ethical Capital Partners has promised it will be transparent about the leadership it puts in charge of the company but is still refusing to disclose who that will be.

“We have defended sex workers and we have seen the stigma,” ECP Partner Solomon Friedman said in a press release. “There is stigma and there is shame and that means there are discussions and debates happening in the absence of those who are most affected by it.”

But some financial types think ECP’s spin is strategic — and makes the acquisition seem like it’s helping and empowering women.

“Many institutions are not allowed to invest in “sin stocks” like tobacco. Playboy had the same issue with their initial IPO. It seems that they are trying to spin this company into one that sells porn to one that protects the safety of children and sex workers,” one financial insider told The Post.

The acquisition was announced just one day after Netflix premiered a documentary about the company, “Money Shot: The Pornhub Story.” After a New York Times article accused the site of hosting child porn, the company was sued by 34 women who said the PornHub profited from videos in which they were trafficked. Visa and Mastercard temporarily suspended payment services.

My boyfriend is addicted to porn

DEAR ABBY: I’ve been with my boyfriend for four years. Over those years, he has acquired an addiction to porn. He refuses to admit he is addicted and insists that it’s perfectly normal. I’m usually not one to judge, but it has reached the point that it’s affecting our sex life.

I can’t remember the last time we had a moment to ourselves that didn’t start with him spending all day watching porn. I tried getting involved with it myself hoping we’d find a common interest we could bond over, but he doesn’t seem to want me involved at all.

I feel like I’m being cheated on, as silly as that sounds. I’m struggling with my body image because of this. I feel like I’m never going to be adequate enough for him to focus on our sex life. How do I compete with porn? — SHUT OUT IN VIRGINIA

DEAR SHUT OUT: You don’t. Tell your boyfriend that his reliance on porn is negatively affecting your self-esteem and you are no longer willing to be involved with him because of it. If he’s in love with you and willing to work on the problem, there are resources available to him. (Twelve-step programs come immediately to mind.) If he isn’t, however, accept that this has nothing to do with your level of attractiveness, and move on.

DEAR ABBY: I married for the second time two years ago to a younger woman. Seven months after our wedding, she announced she didn’t like my dominating personality, which is why she was stepping out of the marriage. She then went back to her deadbeat ex-boyfriend for six months. I went for counseling and have made a major change in how I treat, talk and make decisions with her. I love my wife with all my heart. I want to protect our marriage and move forward from the affair.

Our second anniversary is approaching, but she has been interacting with other men. She takes her daughter with another man on play-dates along with his daughter, and goes to the park with another man for three hours. (He was a single dad having a BBQ.) The third one is a guy she goes with to the park, splash pads, public swimming pool and a water-slide park. They text each other often. One guy is a married stay-at-home dad. He has cheated on his wife before.

Am I wrong to think this is unacceptable for a married woman? Any advice would be absolutely appreciated. — BEWILDERED IN CANADA

DEAR BEWILDERED: It’s time for joint counseling, with a new therapist for you and your wife. I can’t think of a better way to drive her away than continuing to obsess about what she “may” be doing on these outings. It is hard to envision her carrying on flagrantly with a child in tow; the activities you describe seem distinctly family-oriented to me. It appears you still expect her to conform to your idea of how a married woman “should” behave, or you’re having serious trust issues. More counseling for you may be in order if your marriage is going to last.

Which ‘Boy Meets World’ stars supported my porn career

Maitland Ward has heard from three of her former “Boy Meets World” colleagues amid her porn career.

“Trina [McGee] … supported me in the beginning,” the actress claimed on Monday’s episode of the “Skinny Confidential Him & Her” podcast.

In addition to McGee, who played Angela Moore on the ABC sitcom, Will Freidle has also “contacted” Ward.

“[He] says he supports me, but won’t watch anything that I do,” the model, 45, alleged of the actor who played Eric Matthews on the show — and again on “Girl Meets World” spin-off.

She noted that show creator Michael Jacobs has also given his support.

“But the rest, I have not heard from them,” Ward, who played Rachel McGuire for seven seasons, added. “I haven’t heard like, ‘Oh, you’re terrible.’

“But I kind of felt like I was just gone from them. Like, ‘We don’t want anything to do with you anymore.’”

The actress has “not heard” from many of her former colleagues.

In her September memoir, “Rated X: How Porn Liberated Me from Hollywood,” Ward recalled once running into Danielle Fishel, who starred as Topanga Lawrence, at a party.

Danielle didn’t speak to me at all, which I thought was odd,” the “Bold and the Beautiful” alum claimed at the time. “She barely acknowledged that I was even there.”

She continued, “I hadn’t seen her since my wedding [to Terry Braxter in 2006], but we hadn’t had any ill feelings or bad blood.”

Ward went public with her transition into the porn industry in 2019, telling TMZ two years later that she makes six figures with her OnlyFans account.

She published her “Rated X” memoir last month.

The adult film star now makes “more money than [she] ever” has in her life.

Last month, she gushed to The Post about how “soul-changing” her porn career has been, explaining that being “bold and free” in her sexuality has made her feel “powerful.”

“When I was like this innocent flower, I was letting everyone else dictate what I should do or what I should be,” Ward explained.
