Under-$200 Nordstrom Items I Told My 60-Year-Old Mom to Buy

If you ask me whether or not to buy someone a gift card as a present, I’ll tell you that it’s impersonal and a bit of a yawn 90% of the time. The only time I praise them is when the recipient is anything like my mother, who rarely buys anything indulgent for herself and therefore needs the incentive to go out and splurge on something that’s just for her.

That is why I was thrilled to find out that she’d been gifted with a $200 gift card to Nordstrom aka our department store. (Everyone has one that holds an extra-special place in their hearts.) I’m aware that she knows her way around Nordstrom just as well as I do from years of experience, but given how little time she spends shopping anymore, I took it upon myself to scour the entire contents of the store (no really, I did) to help her get busy spending it. Below, find 34 under-$200 items that I’d pick if I were my gift-card holding 60-year-old mom.

Mother-of-four reveals how she lost over 60 pounds in nine months

A mother of four has revealed how she lost an incredible 66 pounds in just nine months.

Sascha Farley said finding a program that worked for her, and switching up her exercise routine helped her keep on track with her fitness goals.

She chose to take part in The Healthy Mummy’s 28-day Weight Loss program and has now maintained her weight loss for five years.

She’d previously tried things such as intermittent fasting and restrictive calorie counting but it didn’t help, stating her confidence was at an all-time low.

“I didn’t think that living a healthy lifestyle was possible to enjoy, so I thought that it was always deprivation and punishment in the gym or being unhappy with your body so I couldn’t find the balance between the two. I didn’t have that knowledge and education,” Sascha said.

She said that upping her protein intake helped her on her way to her goals, as it boosted her metabolism, helped regulate hormones, and reduced her appetite.

She said switching up her exercise routine also helped her, with the recognition that every little bit helps.

“Whether it be the type, the time, the effort – it’s true we become conditioned to things we do consistently for a long period of time so ‘shock’ your body and you’ll get a reaction! Weight training is amazing for changing your composition,” she said.

She added that things like setting a baseline, like three workouts a week, help you feel more motivated when you achieve those goals.

Things like parking further away from the shops or school drop-off also make a difference.

Upping her water intake by taking little sips throughout the day, eating every two to three hours, and drinking a smoothie twice a day also helped.

“Having a Healthy Mummy smoothie for breakfast and lunch was amazing when I was doing it. It accelerated my results as I knew exactly what I was eating and they are so filling, packed full of protein, vitamins, and minerals. I used the chocolate snickers recipe so I still got my calories in,” she said.

She said that swapping out her favorite things for healthier versions that she might crave also helped on her journey.

“I find when I have balance, I have better results because I don’t binge or overeat as much,” she said.

“Consistent balance is better than trying to be good all week and overeating all weekend! I have a piece of flourless chocolate cake every day!”

Now, she said her confidence is at an all-time high and it comes from her improved health and energy levels.

Texas woman accused of killing woman for unborn baby goes on trial

New Boston, Texas — A state police investigator testified Tuesday that a woman accused of killing a pregnant woman and removing her unborn child conducted intensive research on how to fake a pregnancy convincingly.

The testimony came in the capital murder trial of Taylor Rene Parker for the October 2020 killing of Reagan Simmons-Hancock and her stolen child.

Special Agent Dustin Estes of the Texas Department of Public Safety testified that Parker viewed numerous YouTube videos on delivering and caring for babies.

On the day of the killing, she watched a video on the physical exam of an infant delivered pre-term at 35 weeks, he said. Simmons-Hancock had a 35-week pregnancy when she was killed.

Parker also ran numerous Google searches about pregnancy, Estes said.

“She watched all these videos, clicked on all these links, and they were all at 35 weeks,” prosecutor Kelley Crisp said.

“My opinion is Taylor Parker faked her pregnancy. … She planned and carried out the murder of Reagan,” Estes said.

Parker’s attorney, Jeff Harrelson, challenged that opinion, telling Estes, “You can see somebody looked them up, but you don’t know why. You can have a theory.”

Parker, 29, has pleaded not guilty to capital murder and kidnapping in the October 2020 deaths of Simmons-Hancock, 21, and the daughter who died after being cut from her mother’s womb. Authorities say Simmons-Hancock was stabbed and cut more than 100 times and had her skull crushed with a hammer in her New Boston, Texas, home before a scalpel was used to remove her unborn baby. She is also charged with non-capital murder in connection with the baby’s death.

In her opening statement Monday, Crisp told the Bowie County jury that Parker acted not because she wanted a baby but to keep from losing her boyfriend. Crisp said Parker disguised herself to make her look pregnant for nearly 10 months, faked ultrasounds, had a gender-reveal party and posted about her fake pregnancy on social media while searching for a possible victim, Crisp said.
