‘The Drew Barrymore Show’: Clive Owen Reveals Why He Felt “Out Of My Depth” When He Appeared On ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

Working on Larry David‘s long-running (and improv-heavy) sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm can be intimidating, according to actor Clive Owen, who guest-starred on a 2020 episode.

Despite being an Academy Award-nominated actor, Owen told Drew Barrymore that he felt “out of [his] depth” when he appeared as himself in the hit series.

“I walked into a dinner scene and there was, you know, the whole group of them and I felt so out of my depth because they’re so good,” he said on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “And they’re so good at improvising.”

When Barrymore pressed for more about the improv aspect of the show, Owen confirmed that you “don’t get a script” — just an outline of the scene.

“When they get going, you just have to sit,” he said. “I thought the safest thing to do was just be the straight guy. Do it as straight as you can. Don’t try to be funny against these heavyweights.”

Still, Owen said the experience was the “highlight” of his career, adding that he’s the “biggest fan of the show, of all the people in it, and of” David.

“He’s kind of brilliant,” he said of the show creator, actor and writer. “He’s kind of like the show.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm first premiered on HBO in October 2000. It follows the Seinfeld creator as a fictionalized version of himself — a television writer and producer living in Los Angeles. Aside from David, the sitcom also stars Cheryl Hines and Jeff Garlin — and often welcomes a number of celebrities as guest stars.

Since its inception, the series has been nominated for more than 40 Primetime Emmy Awards and won the 2002 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy.

While the show took a pause after its eighth season in 2011, it picked back up in 2017. The 12th and final season is set to premiere on Feb. 4, 2024.

Drew Barrymore Says It’s Possible Her ’Scream’ Character Survived Ghostface’s Brutal Murder: “I’m Pretty Sure a C-Section is Comparable”

In the age of revivals, anything’s possible. And Drew Barrymore reprising her role as Casey Becker from the 1996 slasher Scream is not something that’s completely off the table — despite her character suffering a brutal murder in the opening scene of the movie.

The actress-turned-talk show host’s confession came during Wednesday morning’s (April 12) episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, when Barrymore’s Drew’s News co-host Ross Mathews asked if it’s possible that Casey could have survived Ghostface fatally stabbing her in the chest several times, disemboweling her body and hanging her from a tree.

“You know, doctors can do amazing things! And you said, maybe there’s a chance she did survive,” Mathews pointed out. “So, does this make you want to bring her back for Scream VII?”

Barrymore replied, “It’s funny. I’ve never thought of it this way, but I’m pretty sure a C-section is comparable to what happened to her. Like, literally. And I’m here! I’m fine! So, maybe Casey Becker will be OK.”

After Mathews happily exclaimed, “Let’s make it happen!” Barrymore added, “With good writing, you can make anything happen.”

As for the continued success of the Scream franchise, which just released its sixth installment last month, Barrymore said it’s “just so fun and cool,” before telling her audience, “I’m so glad that this franchise is still such a viable commodity.”

While Casey Becker didn’t make it passed the first 15 minutes of the cult classic, she certainly has become an iconic character in the horror universe, with Barrymore even dressing up like her for a Drew segment back in 2020. In the video, the actress imagines what Casey’s life would be like now if she survived more than the first movie.

Dressed as Casey, Barrymore — who clearly hadn’t aged a day since she portrayed the role at the age of 21 — walked down the streets of New York City as she received a boatload of emoji-filled threats from Ghostface via text message. The short clip ends with the masked killer cleverly demanding that she “stop ghosting” him.

Rob Lowe gifts son John Owen 5-year sobriety chip: ‘I’m proud of you’

He’s been there through the highs and the Lowe’s.

Actor Rob Lowe was overjoyed to gift his son, John Owen Lowe, a chip to mark five years of sobriety during their appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” Thursday.

Barrymore discussed her own sobriety with the duo, saying her daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8, understand that she cannot drink alcohol.

“They support me through my pitfalls,” she said of her daughters. “And you guys are an incredible family unit that supports each other through every high and low, everything.”

The heartfelt confession prompted Rob to open up about his own sobriety journey, revealing he’s now gone 33 years without alcohol.

“We do, and to be able to share recovery — you’re in recovery, I’m in recovery — I’ve got 33 years in recovery … Johnny’s got five years,” the actor said.

The 59-year-old then pulled out a sobriety chip out of his pocket, which he gave to his son.

“In fact, Johnny’s five-year birthday was on Saturday, and Johnny I want to give you your five-year chip,” the “Parks & Recreation” star said.

“I love you. I’m proud of you,” he said to John Owen, 28.

“I’m speechless. I usually have a witty retort. I don’t have one for that. That was very nice of you,” he said to his dad.

The pair share a close bond.

Rob, for his part, has been very open about his own path to sobriety, and previously credited Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler for helping him kickstart the booze-free journey.

Tyler, 75, offered a few words of encouragement — even though they had never met in person.

“I was probably sober two or three weeks, maybe, and I got a phone call from Steven Tyler, who I did not know,” Rob revealed in 2014. “He called me and said, ‘I heard you’re in recovery and I just wanted to say, ‘Hey, you’re going to do great.’”

Rob said the rocker’s call helped changed his perspective and he thought, “If it’s good enough for Steven Tyler, it’s good enough for me.”

“He’s a big part of who I am today,” he added.

In 2014, the actor shared that he got sober in order to stop cheating on his wife, Sheryl Berkoff.

“I had met my now wife, Sheryl, and was attempting my first try at monogamy, which was not really in my nature at the time, and I wasn’t able to do it,” the “West Wing” star told Haute Living. “It made me examine how I was living.”

Sam Smith addresses rumors that they’re actually Adele

“Rumor Has It” Adele and Sam Smith might be one and the same.

Smith — who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns — confessed to Drew Barrymore, 47, that the craziest rumor they’ve ever heard about themselves is that they are secretly Adele in drag.

“Everyone seems to think that I’m Adele in drag,” the 30-year-old singer said on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

“‘Cause we’ve never been seen in the same room together, and if you slow down her voice it sounds maybe a bit like mine. So people think that we’re the same person and I’m just in drag right now,” they continued.

The conspiracy theory that Smith and Adele, 34, are the same person seems to have started circulating the internet in 2018 when one person posted a video of Adele’s music slowed down, which ended up sounding like Smith.

“Did you know that when you slow down Adele it’s actually Sam Smith,” the user tweeted along with video “evidence.”

Around the same time, another user pointed out that Smith and Adele both didn’t attend the Grammys that year.

“Anyone notice that Adele isn’t at the Grammys this year? It’s because Adele and Sam Smith are the same person and you’ll never see them both in the same place at the same time,” the person tweeted.

Other fans weren’t so sure about the rumors.

“Nobody ever, in their wildest fever dream, while drunk and high on opioids has EVER said Sam Smith is Adele in drag,” one person said. “The VOICE? For sure pitched sounds like it. But physically? Even a blind man wouldn’t make that mistake.”

“One thing is ‘hey, they sound similar!’ and another one is ‘Adele is Sam Smith in drag!’ Not quite the same,” another tweeted.

“I want Adele’s reaction to what Sam smith said,” someone joked.

While Adele and Smith are both London-born singers, that’s about the extent of their similarities.

Smith’s album “Gloria” will be released on Jan. 27.

America’s Sweetheart Drew Barrymore Confesses That She’s “Naughty”: Here’s Why

Every day we learn a little bit more about Drew Barrymore. And thanks to today’s taping of The Drew Barrymore Show, we now know why the actress-turned-talk show host would refer to herself as “naughty.”

Sitting at the Drew’s News desk this morning alongside Barrymore and Ross Mathews was Queer Eye star Antoni Porowski, who read the first topic of the segment, which revolved around one Cosmopolitan writer’s call to end the sexualization of the word “naughty.”

“Here’s her take: The word ‘naughty’ is too often used as a synonym for ‘sexy’ which creeps her out and makes her picture an old Victorian man with a monocle,” Porowski read. “She says we need to stop thinking of being naughty as inherently sexual and save the word for Santa Claus.”

Barrymore immediately quipped, “Well now that you brought Santa into it,” before admitting that she actually doesn’t mind the word. However, she takes pride in her own naughtiness in a context that doesn’t necessarily include what goes on in the bedroom.

“I like the word ‘naughty.’ Not necessarily in a sexual connotation,” she told her co-hosts. “But, like, it describes my behavior. Like a little rebellious, a little naughty. But you’re right, that’s not the kind of talk I want in a bedroom.”

While she didn’t get into specifics, if you look up the host from the ’90s, you’ll probably get your answer. Meanwhile, when Mathews asked the 50 First Dates actress what kind of talk she would be into, Barrymore, who has never shied away from joking about her lackluster sex life, said, “I don’t know, it’s been a very long time,” which prompted a round of applause from her audience.

As for Mathews? Well, his favorite word to use in the bedroom is “thank you.” Just in case you were wondering.

Jamie Lee Curtis Clearly Isn’t an MCU Fan, Asks Drew Barrymore: “Is There a Really Handsome Marvel Character?”

Just a few months ago, Jamie Lee Curtis admitted she has “seen a lot of Marvel movies.” But after today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Showwhere the actress seemingly had no idea the MCU was flooded with hot guys, we are calling that statement into question.

While hosting the Drew’s News segment from Comic Con, the same place Barrymore admitted to getting sent “straight to the hospital” while watching Halloween high, the talk show host asked the Halloween Ends star what superpower her former Scream Queens co-star John Stamos would have if he joined the MCU. The question came after it was reported that Stamos said he would join “in a flash” if they came calling.

“Is there a really handsome Marvel character?” Curtis asked. “Because John Stamos is just drop-it handsome.”

Let’s see: Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Paul Rudd, etc. The list goes on. Even I, who could tell you absolutely nothing about Marvel, know that. Luckily, Barrymore also knew, and told her guest, “I think there are a lot of hot guys,” to which she asked, “Are there? Are there hot Marvels?”

Barrymore responded, “There are, yeah. You marvel at these Marvels. There’s just a corral of studs. Absolutely.”

Either Curtis is so happily married she never noticed Hemsworth’s abs and flowing blonde locks or she’s never actually paid attention to the MCU. And since I’ve known even the happiest of wives who can’t help but gawk over Thor, we’re going to have to go with the latter.

The Scream Queen then said that she would make Stamos “mean” since he’s “already a superhero” in real life. However, she noted, “I’d like him to still be a really hot bad guy.”

Uncle Jesse as a villain? She may be onto something. If it all works out, I think we can forgive her for not knowing how many hot dudes are already in the franchise.

Drew Barrymore Convinced to Date Men Half Her Age By Persuasive Audience Member on ‘Drew Barrymore Show’: “I’m Young at Heart, Too”

How Stella Got Her Groove BackMore like, How Can We Get Drew Barrymore’s Groove Back? The actress, who has been incredibly open about her lackluster sex life on The Drew Barrymore Show may just have to explore some younger options. And thanks to a convincing audience member, we wouldn’t be surprised if Barrymore is the next lucky cradle-robber to snag a member of One Direction — since, of course, Olivia Wilde already has dibs on Harry Styles.

In honor of the ’90s rom-com starring Taye Diggs, Hulu has ordered a new reality dating series, Back in the Groove. The show will be hosted by the actor as it follows three single women in their 40s as they travel to the Dominican Republic to “find love with men half their age,” per Variety.

Barrymore, who is 47 years old, told viewers her groove is “not so groovy” and was initially put off by the idea of dating a man much younger than her. In fact, she even turned to her audience to see if anyone there would. When one brave soul clapped, the actress asked, “Why would you want to date someone half your age? And I don’t mean that judgmentally and it did sound that way but that’s not how I meant it. But why?”

The woman noted, “Because I feel younger and I need somebody who can keep up with me.”

Barrymore, who clearly didn’t need much convincing, told the lucky audience member that she just changed her mind.

“I’m young at heart, too, when I get myself off the couch. I’m a hoot,” she said. “Well you changed my attitude. I think you could hear it in my voice with quite a bit of opinion and I just backed down because you’re right. Thank you.”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays at 9:30 a.m. ET on CBS.
