GTA 5 Scrapped Story Expansion Details Emerge as Actor Says Rockstar ‘Shot Some Stuff’ for Trevor DLC

Grand Theft Auto 5 has received multiple updates over the years, adding new content, missions, heists and more to GTA Online, but the game has never received a story expansion since its initial release in 2013. Past reports have mentioned scrapped plans for story DLCs for the game, and more recently leaked database file from GTA 5 suggested that developers Rockstar Games cancelled a story mode DLC related to Trevor, one of the game’s three main protagonists. Now, the actor who played the eccentric character in GTA 5 has said that he “shot some stuff” for a Trevor DLC that never saw the light of day.

In a GTA 5 Q&A stream featuring Steven Ogg, Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno, who played the game’s three protagonists Trevor, Michael and Franklin, respectively, the actors revealed a few details about planned story expansion for the game. While Luke mentioned that Rockstar initially planned to continue the stories of the three career criminals, Ogg detailed a Trevor-focussed DLC that was in the works.

“I forget if it was DLC, I have no idea, but Trevor was going to be undercover. He works for the feds. And we did shoot some of that stuff, with ‘James Bond Trevor,’” Ogg said in the stream. “And we shot some stuff, and then it just disappeared, and they never did it and they never followed up on it,” he added.

Ogg was likely referring to the Trevor DLC that was discovered when GTA 5 database file leaked in November 2023. The leaked file included a string related to Trevor, hinting at a story mode expansion for the game.

Back in 2014, Rockstar had teased “some very exciting Story Mode DLC and much more” in a newswire post, but the studio instead shifted its focus on providing new updates for GTA Online and directed resources to the development of Red Dead Redemption 2, later confirming that GTA 5 would not receive a story-based expansion. “…we did not feel single-player expansions were either possible or necessary, but we may well do them for future projects,” Rockstar had told Game Informer in 2017.

Rockstar Games have notably done ambitious story expansions for their past games. Grand Theft Auto 4 received two major story additions in The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, both of which added new protagonists, characters and story, interconnected with the main game.

GTA 5 Source Code, GTA 6 Code, Bully 2 Files Reportedly Leaked

Rockstar Games has seemingly been hit with yet another leak. Several reports have tipped that the complete source code of Grand Theft Auto 5 has been leaked. Reports have also suggested the leak includes GTA 6 codes and files from a rumoured sequel to the company’s 2006 game, Bully. Notably, the hacker who helped leak GTA 6 gameplays last year was sentenced to indefinite hospital prison last week. Even the GTA 6 trailer was revealed 15 hours ahead of schedule in response to a leak that had shared the trailer online.

YouTuber SKizzleAXE shared screenshots of the leak in a post on X. It includes GTA 5 source code, which shows an early map for the game. It also suggests that GTA 6 was previously codenamed “Project Americas.” The leak also shows a file for Bully 2, which has long been speculated to launch as the sequel to 2006’s Bully.

Gaming Detective (@that1detectiv3) claims in a post on X that the full extent of the leak is not yet known, but it is expected to result in several technical issues, including but not limited to the launch delay for games like GTA 6. Rockstar Games has not yet made a public comment on the leak.

Over 90 videos were leaked by teenage hacker Arion Kurtaj in September 2022, which is considered the biggest leak in gaming history. Last week, he was sentenced to an indefinite period in hospital prison based on a mental assessment.

In November this year, a database file from GTA 5, including a string related to Trevor, one of the three main protagonists of the game, and a jet pack, was leaked. A string related to Bully 2, which has been rumoured to be in the works for long, was also leaked. Previously, a 2018 report claimed that the sequel would be released that year. No official announcement about Bully 2 has been made yet.

GTA 5 and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Lead PlayStation Plus Extra, Deluxe Games for December 2023

Grand Theft Auto V leads the pack of new titles coming to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/ Premium game catalog, this month. Starting December 19, all higher-tier PS Plus members can hop back into the lively city of Los Santos and experience a tale of perilous heists and betrayal as a street hustler, a retired bank robber, and an impulsive criminal’s lives become intertwined in a twisted odyssey. While the game has been out for quite some time now, this addition perfectly lines up with the new GTA Online update ‘The Chop Shop,’ which brings a salvage yard and drift racing into the mix. GTA V will be available to play on both PS4 and PS5.

Take on the role of sworn warrior Jack Garland, fuelled by an undying thirst to defeat Chaos, in this dark fantasy reimagining of Final Fantasy. Backed by his party mates Ash and Jed, players engage in a sprawling adventure — visiting iconic locations such as the Chaos Shrine and Refrine Wetlands — to restore the crystals’ light and nullify the eroding darkness, by frequently stopping to engage in high-octane cinematic hack-and-slash battles. I’ll admit, that it’s quite flashy for an FF game, but that has to do with Square Enix’s collaboration with Team Ninja on this one, which is known for the Nioh series of games. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will be out on PS4 and PS5. Or head into some good old racing and work your way to the finish line in MotoGP 23, featuring an entirely new career mode and dynamic weather that makes every competition unpredictable.

Rhythm-based games can appeal to a large crowd if done right, and Funcom’s Metal: Hellsinger is a great example of that. As a human-demon hybrid, step into the scorching domains of hell and lay waste to diabolical enemies using insanely powerful weapons, against a heavy metal music backdrop. Try to match the beat with every shot to maximise your score, and you may soon find yourself before the utterly cruel Red Judge. The game will be available on PS4 and PS5. Fierce clayborne warrior Grey Irma is on a quest to find her sculptor and unravel her purpose in this 2D side-scrolling souls-like game, as you explore the perilous moonlit dungeons and slash your way through tough-as-nails enemies and use every death as a learning experience. Moonscars also features a host of special armaments to master, powerful spells, and intricate storytelling that relies on you to piece the narrative puzzle together.

The acclaimed Shadowrun trilogy is joining the PS Plus Game Catalog this month, tossing you into a cyberpunkish world where creatures of magical myths have awakened and trudge along the lands. As a mercenary living on the fringes of society, interact with greedy corporates, solve elaborate puzzles, solve a murder mystery, and more to restore a hint of order in a dystopian Seattle. All three games Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong will be available across PS4 and PS5.

All these and more were unveiled on the PlayStation Blog and will be available exclusively to PS Plus Extra and Deluxe members in December (PS Plus Deluxe is called PS Plus Premium in select markets). Last month’s catalogue included Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, Teardown, and Dead Island: Riptide to name just a few.

Here’s the complete list of free games available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/ Premium subscribers, starting December 19.

The blog post also lists the PS Plus Classics catalogue for December, available exclusively to PS Plus Deluxe/ Premium members. This month brings Mega Man Legacy Collection, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, Thrillville, Thrillville: Off the Rails, and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.

PlayStation Plus Deluxe subscription starts in India from Rs. 849 per month, whereas the Extra subscription begins at Rs. 749 per month.
