Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro Key Specifications Leak Online; Said to Get 120Hz Display, IP68 Rating

Google will showcase its next-generation smartphones —Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro— along with new wearables on October 4. Ahead of it, a prominent tipster has leaked the key specifications of the Pixel 8 series, leaving little to the imagination of smartphone enthusiasts. They are tipped to run on Tensor G3 SoC and get 10.5-megapixel selfie shooters along with an IP68 water resistance-rated build. The Pixel 8 is said to feature a 6.2-inch display, while the Pixel 8 Pro is said to get a 6.7-inch screen. The new source also corroborates previous leaks.

Known tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) leaked the specifications of the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro through a comparison promo chart on X (formerly Twitter). The Pixel 8 series is expected to offer a few similarities with last year’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a. As per the poster, the upcoming handsets will run on a new Tensor G3 chip.

The Pixel 8 is expected to feature a 6.2-inch Actua display with 120Hz refresh rate, while the pro model is said to get a 6.7-inch Super Actua screen with 120Hz refresh rate. The vanilla model is tipped to carry a dual rear camera unit, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with autofocus, and offer up to 8x SuperRes zoom. The Pixel 8 Pro, in contrast, is said to pack a triple rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 48-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, and another 48-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. Both models are said to get a new 10.5-megapixel front camera sensor.

Google’s Pixel 8 series is said to offer fast charging capabilities and is claimed to offer up to 24 hours of battery life with a single charge. They will offer in-display fingerprint sensors and support face unlock feature for biometric authentication. The Pixel 8 Pro is tipped to also include a thermometer. Like the Pixel 7 series devices, the upcoming models are also shown to have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The Google Pixel 8 series hardware launch event is scheduled for October 4 at 10:00am local time (7:30pm IST). Google’s Pixel Watch 2 will also make its debut during the ‘Made by Google’ event.

Google Pixel 8 Pro-Hands-on Images Suggest Matte Glass Finish on Rear Panel

Google’s Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones are scheduled to break cover on October 4 at the ‘Made by Google’ event. As we are counting down to the launch of the new Pixel phones, alleged hands-on images of the Pixel 8 Pro have surfaced on the Web. The latest leak appears to show a black version of the Pixel 8 Pro. It is seen with small bezels around the display and there is a hole-punch cutout located in the centre of the screen for the selfie camera. They suggest a matte glass finish for the handset and a triple rear camera unit on the back.

Vietnamese user (LEAKs Viet Nam) shared hands-on images of the dummy units of Pixel 8 Pro on Facebook. The images show the front and back of the handset and suggest a design language similar to last year’s Pixel 7 Pro. However, it is seen in a black shade with thin bezels around the display. The display appears to have a centrally placed hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

On the rear, the renders suggest a matte finish for the Pixel 8 Pro. This would be a shift from the design of the Pixel 7 Pro. Google has used glossy glass finishes in the previous years on Pixel 6 series and Pixel 7 series. Further, the renders indicate a triple camera unit at the back, arranged in the pill-shared cutout in the camera bar. The horizontally shaped camera island also houses the flash and thermometer sensor.

This isn’t the first time we have seen the Pixel 8 Pro in live images. The handset was leaked in live shots back in July that suggested design details and the codename “husky”. Google has also officially revealed the design of the Pixel 8 Pro.

Launch of the Pixel 8 series will take place on October 4 in New York at 10:00am local time (7:30pm IST). The Pixel Watch 2 and a new colour for the Pixel Buds Pro are also scheduled to go official during the ‘Made by Google’ event. The upcoming handsets will go on pre-order via Flipkart in India starting October 5.

The new iteration of Pixel smartphones are anticipated to ship with Android 14. The vanilla Pixel 8 is expected to feature a 6.17-inch full-HD+ OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, while the pro model is said to get a 6.71-inch LTPO OLED screen with QHD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. They are expected to run on the new Tensor G3 SoC. They are tipped to be available in two RAM —8GB, 12GB— and two storage options — 128GB, 256GB RAM. The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to carry a 4,950mAh battery with 27W wired fast charging support. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 could house a 4,485mAh battery with 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging support.

Google Pixel 8 Series Renders Leak Again; Suggest Three Colour Options

Google Pixel 8 series with vanilla Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro is all set to go official on October 4 at the ‘Made by Google’ event. The tech giant has shared brief teasers of forthcoming devices, offering a sneak peek into their design elements. Previous leaks and reports have already suggested some key specifications of the upcoming Pixel series smartphones. Most recently, new renders offering a glimpse into the possible design and colour options of the handsets have leaked online. They suggest three colourways for the handsets. Google Might Use Samsung’s FO-WLP to Make Tensor G3 Run Cooler Than the Tensor G2

Google Pixel 8 series — consisting of vanilla Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro — is all set to go official on October 4 at the ‘Made by Google’ event. Google is expected to pack the next generation Tensor G3 SoC on the Pixel 8 lineup as an upgrade over the Tensor G2 SoC that powers the Pixel 7 series. The company has yet to delve into details about its in-house chip, but a new leak suggests that it would offer better thermal management features. The Tensor G3 might come with Samsung Foundry’s FO-WLP (Fan-out Wafer-level packaging) method. This is expected to reduce heat generation and increase the power efficiency of the Pixel 8 series.

Tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) on X (formerly Twitter) suggests that the Tensor G3, which is slated to power the upcoming Pixel 8 series handsets, will be among the first Samsung Foundry’s smartphone chips to incorporate the FO-WLP packaging method. This method is expected to reduce heat generation and increase power efficiency for the Tensor G3 SoC. If this turns out to be true, it would address the overheating issues of the current Pixel phones.

The FO-WLP process has been used by Qualcomm and MediaTek and it might be a game changer for Google’s Pixel series of smartphones. The Tensor G3 single-chip system is expected to be more productive than the first and second-generation platforms. The Tensor G3 will reportedly include nine CPU cores with a 1+4+4 layout. Last year’s Tensor G2 had a 4+2+2 core layout.

The new CPU will reportedly have a single Cortex-X3 core running at 3.00GHz, four Cortex-A715 cores with a frequency of 2.45GHz, and four Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of 2.15GHz. It could include an ARM Mali-G715 GPU with 10 cores and a frequency of 890MHz. Further, the Tensor G3 SoC is said to come with AV1 encode capabilities. This would allow Samsung Multi-Function Codec (MFC) to support 8K30 video decoding and encoding in H.264 and HEVC.

The launch of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will take place at the Made by Google launch event on October 4 in New York at 10:00am local time (7:30 pm IST). Besides the smartphones, the event will also see the debut of Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Buds Pro. The handsets are confirmed to be available for pre-order in India via Flipkart starting October 5.

Both Pixel 8 series smartphones are expected to ship with Android 14 and come with 120Hz refresh rate displays. The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to pack a 4,950mAh battery with 27W wired fast charging support. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 could be backed by a 4,485mAh battery with 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging support.

Google Pixel 8 Series Alleged Promo Video Tips ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ Feature, New Colour Option

Google introduced its Magic Eraser feature with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro back in 2021. This machine learning and AI-based photo editing feature used to remove unwanted objects in photos is now more widely available. The California-headquartered company could add a similar feature for videos in the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. An alleged promo video suggests the existence of ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ in the Pixel 8 series. The leak also indicates a blue colour option for the vanilla Pixel 8.

An X (formerly Twitter) user EZ (@EZ8622647227573) has posted the alleged promo video of the Pixel 8 series. The 14-second video teases a new ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ feature in the upcoming Pixel smartphones. The video shows skateboarders using a new feature to remove unwanted noise from video clips. The Audio Magic Eraser button is shown among the controls in Google Photos.

This promo video comes with the tagline “the only phone with Audio Magic Eraser” and Google’s existing line for Pixel handsets — the only phone engineered by Google. At the end of the clip, the Pixel 8 is shown in a blue shade as well.

Google released Magic Eraser in Pixel 6 series smartphones back in 2021. This functionality is designed to remove unwanted background elements from a shot with few taps. The company rolled out this feature to more non-Tensor-powered smartphones last year.

The Pixel 8 series is said to go official in October this year. Both smartphones are tipped to run on Android 14 and come with a 120Hz refresh rate display. They are expected to powered by a Tensor G3 SoC, which would come as an upgrade to the Tensor G2 SoC, used in Pixel 7 series and Pixel Fold.

The smartphones could debut in 128GB and 256GB storage options. The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to pack a 4,950mAh battery with 27W wired fast charging support. The Pixel 8, on the other hand, is said to carry a 4,485mAh battery with 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging support.

Google Pixel Watch 2 to Launch This Year Alongside Pixel 8 Series: Report

Google Pixel Watch was launched in October last year during the ‘Made By Google’ event as the first smartwatch offering from the company. Now, the tech giant is reportedly gearing up to unveil a successor to the wearable later this year alongside the launch of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The purported Pixel Watch 2 could be powered by a Samsung Exynos 9110 SoC. The Pixel Watch was initially teased at I/O last year. As Google I/O 2023 is scheduled to begin next week, we might see a preview of the Pixel 8 series and Pixel Watch 2.

report by 9to5google, quoting sources, claims that Googl Pixel Watch 2 is scheduled to launch later this year alongside the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. Samsung’s Exynos 9110 SoC, which debuted back in 2018 with the Galaxy Watch, is expected to power the upcoming wearable. This chip could bring more battery life to the device. It is said to come with Google’s new Material You design language as well.

Google teased the Pixel Watch in May last year at its I/O 2022 event. The company later in October launched it during the ‘Made By Google’ event alongside the Google Pixel 7 series. With Google I/O 2023 set to begin on May 10, there’s a possibility that the company could offer an early preview of its upcoming Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel 8 phones.

The price of the Google Pixel Watch is set at $349.99 (roughly Rs. 28,700) for the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-only model. The LTE model along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi costs $399.99 (roughly Rs. 32,800).

The Google Pixel Watch runs on WearOS 3.5 and features a 1.2-inch AMOLED touch display with support for always-on mode and up to 1,000 nits of brightness. It runs on Exynos 9110 SoC, paired with a Cortex M33 coprocessor and 2GB of RAM. It includes a heart rate sensor and an ECG tracker.

Google Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8 Series, Pixel 8a, More; Product Roadmap for Next 3 Years Leaked

Google saw multiple new product announcements this year, including the launch of latest Pixel 7 series, Pixel 6a, Pixel Watch, and Pixel Buds Pro. The Pixel Fold, the first foldable smartphone from Google is expected to be a significant offering from the tech giant in the coming year. Apart from the flagship smartphone, Google is reportedly gearing up to unveil a handful of products including Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8a in the coming year. The lineup for 2024 is said to include three Pixel 9 series smartphones. The possible roadmap of Google in 2025 is likely to conclude a new clamshell smartphone with a design similar to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.

A report by Android Authority, quoting anonymous sources, has leaked the possible roadmap for several Google products in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Google Pixel phones planned for 2023 (leaked)

As per the report, the brand is gearing up to unveil two Pixel smartphones codenamed “lynx” and “felix” during the Google I/O event in April or May 2023. The codename “lynx” refers to the Pixel 7a and “felix” is associated with the Pixel Fold. The Pixel 7a is said to come with a price tag of $449 (roughly Rs. 37,000), the same as that of the Pixel 6a. The foldable smartphone, on the other hand, is likely to be priced at $1,799 (roughly Rs. 1,49,000), to compete with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro codenamed “shiba” and “husky” are expected to go official in H2 2023. Specifications-wise, the Pixel 8 series could be quite similar to the Pixel 7 series. However, the vanilla Pixel 8 will reportedly feature a smaller display and overall smaller form factor. The Pixel 8 Pro is said to have the same display and general measurements as the Pixel 7 Pro. The next-generation flagship smartphones from Google could be powered by a new SoC codenamed “zuma”. Google is expected to market the new SoC as Tensor G3.

The report further suggests that Google is planning to unveil Pixel 8a, codenamed “akita”, as a possible successor of Pixel 7a in the coming year. However, the launch of the smartphone could be decided based up on the commercial success of the Pixel 7a. The Pixel 8a is said to compete with the likes of Apple’s iPhone SE models and is expected to have a price tag of $499 (roughly Rs. 41,000).

Google Pixel lineup for 2024 (leaked)

Google will reportedly release three smartphones under the Pixel 9 series in the fall of 2024. The regular Pixel 9 would feature the same design and size as the Pixel 8, while the Pixel 9 Pro codenamed “komodo” will have a 6.7-inch display. The third model in the Pixel 9 lineup could be a toned-down version of the Pixel 9 Pro, with a 6.3-inch display. This seems to be in line with Apple’s sizing strategy on the latest iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Tensor G4, codenamed “redondo” is likely to power the 2024 Pixel series smartphones.

Furthermore, the report adds that Google is eyeing to unveil a follow-up foldable in 2024. The tech giant is expected to formulate follow-up plans for the foldable segment after carefully weighing the consumer response to its first foldable — “felix”.

Pixel lineup for 2025 (leaked)

It is reportedly considering a Galaxy Z Flip-style clamshell foldable for 2025. If Google scraps plans for a Flip-like device, it would introduce four non-folding smartphones. Like Apple’s iPhone 14 series, the vanilla model and pro model could be offered in larger and smaller sizes. The launching of Pixel Fold successors in 2025 likely depends on how the original Pixel Fold hits the market in 2023.

Google Pixel 8 Series Could Use Samsung’s ISOCELL GN2 Sensor With Staggered HDR Support

Google Pixel 7 series with a 50-megapixel primary rear camera was unveiled in September this year. Now, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are said to be in the works as the next offering from the tech giant. The next-generation flagship smartphones from Google are said to support staggered HDR (High Dynamic Range) functionality. Google is expected to pack Samsung’s ISOCELL GN2 sensor that has Staggered HDR support on the next Pixel series phone. It could use the third-generation Google Tensor SoC.

References to the camera features of upcoming Pixel 8 series smartphones codenamed “Shiba” and “Husky” in the Google Camera Go app were spotted by tipster Kuba Wojciechowski (@Za_Raczke). A screenshot shared by the tipster shows the internal source code of the app with staggered HDR support for the upcoming handsets. The staggered HDR functionality allows capturing multiple frames in short, middle, and long exposures with improved details. The leak also suggests that Google would upgrade the primary camera of the next Pixel series devices.

Current Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones use Samsung’s ISOCELL GN1 sensors. Based on the latest leak, we can expect the Pixel 8 models to come with Samsung’s ISOCELL GN2 that offers staggered HDR feature. The ISOCELL GN1 successor has a 50-megapixel image sensor and it has Smart ISO Pro for low-light photography. The 1/1.12-inch ISOCELL GN2 sensor can simulate a 2.8-micron pixel with four-pixel-binning technology.

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro powered by the second-generation Tensor G2 SoC were launched in September. In India, the Pixel 7 is priced at Rs. 59,999, while Google Pixel 7 Pro is priced at Rs. 84,999.

The Pixel 7 features a 50-megapixel dual rear camera setup that includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor, and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens. The Pixel 7 Pro, on the other hand, has a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel secondary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with support for 30x Super Resolution Zoom and 5x optical zoom.
