EA Sports FC 24 Revealed: Release Date, Women’s Football in Ultimate Team, More

EA Sports FC 24, the newly rebranded football simulation game franchise, has been fully revealed with a release date of September 29. The date matches leaks from last week, which suggested that the game would debut in early access seven days prior — on September 22 — available to those who pre-order the Ultimate Edition. Manchester City F.C. footballer Erling Haaland was revealed as the cover star, putting in a surprise appearance at EA’s global event in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson was present, of course, delivering a lengthy monologue about his love for football, while somehow managing to not slip up a single time and accidentally blurting out the word ‘FIFA.’

In a sense, FC24 is basically the same FIFA game you’ve known for years, but with new branding and a couple of additional features that are entirely novel to the franchise. First up, EA Sports will continue to expand on the presence of women’s football in the game, by bringing them to the Ultimate Team mode for the first time. Judging by the trailer, it appears as though the division won’t be separated as men’s or women’s FUT, but rather combine the two so you can have either gender on the same team and on the pitch. The studio previously brought the National Women’s Soccer League to FIFA 23 and it seems like the trend will carry over to this new iteration, thanks to the addition of two new women’s leagues — Liga F and Frauen-Bundesliga, the main women’s leagues in Spain and Germany, respectively.

EA Sports has secured agreements with various footballing leagues to keep FC24 as true to the actual sport, bringing in hundreds of stadiums, over 19,000 players, and more than 30 official leagues including the Premier League, La Liga, and the UEFA Champions League. For the uninitiated, EA Sports ditched the FIFA brand following a financial disagreement with the footballing body, which reportedly asked for a $1 billion (about Rs. 8,216 crore) payment every four years. Electronic Arts then withdrew from the agreement, with CEO Wilson claiming that the only value it ever got from the FIFA deal was the “four letters on the box.”

An enhanced version of the Frostbite Engine serves as the foundation of the game, which boasts smoother animations and redesigned player models. HyperMotionV serves to offer realism in the game, having captured volumetric data from over 180 professional men’s and women’s football matches to deliver realistic movement. Meanwhile, PlayStyles goes beyond overall player ratings to bring to life the on-pitch abilities that are said to make players special. Each PlayStyle gives players unique capabilities you’ll see and feel that make their way of playing more ‘authentic’. The company also introduced Ultimate Team Evolutions, allowing you to upgrade players throughout the season based on individual objectives, granting additional stat boosts and skills.

Nike Partners EA Sports to Bring Exclusive NFT Collection to Gamers: Details

In a rather pro-Web3 move, Nike has struck a partnership with EA Sports hoping to be able to push elements of Web3 like cryptocurrencies and NFTs, deeper into the international gaming ecosystem. The shoes and athleisure brand Nike has been experimenting with digital collectibles or NFTs for quite some time now. As for EA Sports, the US-based game publisher behind world-famous titles like FIFA and F1 among others, and has a player-base of over 150 million as per Statista.

As part of this deal, Nike’s Web3 platform called ‘.Swoosh’ will provide its users access to exclusive NFT collections inspired by EA Sports games, which boast a massive community of fans across the globe.

“Nike Virtual Studios and EA SPORTS are today announcing a new partnership aimed at enhancing and personalising the virtual sports experience for fans all over the world. In future EA Sports titles, EA Sports and Nike plan to make select .Swoosh virtual creations available allowing members and players unique new opportunities for self-expression and creativity through sport and style,” an official blog by Nike said.

The companies announced the development officially on Twitter on June 1.

Nike is expected to make its EA Sports-focussed NFTs, customisable. These NFTs would include wearable merchandises inspired by teams within the games. Players will be able to purchase these Nike NFTs to tweak their virtual avatars.

The option to engage with NFTs, most of which are bought with cryptocurrencies, will now reach millions of players who are part of the EA Sports community, which could significantly boost Web3 adoption.

Other prominent players from the gaming sector are also looking at Web3 to refresh the existing video game ecosystem.

Previously, Sony has also filed for patents pertaining to the integration of digital assets and NFTs to its offerings and services.

Over 55 percent of the global gaming community resides in Asia. The continent contributes over $72 billion (roughly Rs. 5,88,229 crore) in annual gaming revenue.

A Chainalysis report also recently highlighted that in the second quarter of 2022, 58 percent of web traffic from Asian nations to crypto services was NFT-related. Another 21 percent traffic was related to play-to-earn blockchain games.

Hence in recent times, the blockchain gaming market in Japan has specifically garnered major interest of the gaming industry.

FIFA 23 Will Introduce National Women’s Soccer League on March 15: Details

About six months since its release, EA Sports is bringing two more women’s football leagues to FIFA 23. Starting March 15, the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will be accessible in the marquee football simulator. The leagues, their respective teams, and game modes will be available as a free update and will rely on the same Hypermotion2 technology driving realistic gameplay in FIFA 23. Going forward, the leagues will remain a part of the franchise, even as it rebrands to ‘EA Sports FC.’

At launch, FIFA 23 added two major women’s leagues to the mix — the Barclays Women’s Super League and the French Division 1 Féminine — which is now being expanded upon. “The NWSL’s integration into EA SPORTS FIFA 23 is a monumental milestone for the league, the players, and millions of football fans around the world as we continue pushing boundaries for the women’s game,” Jessica Berman, Commissioner, NWSL said in a prepared statement. Before the real-life NWSL kicks off on March 25, FIFA 23 players can test out the league via all 12 teams, which will be present within the Kick-Off, Tournament, Seasons (both Head-to-Head and Co-op), and Online Friendlies modes. Four new stadiums are promised as part of the free DLC update, alongside kits, trophies, and celebrations.

FIFA 23 Review: Barely Even Trying

No matter what mode you play in, as long as both teams are from the same league, FIFA 23 will present an authentic match broadcast experience, featuring tailored cutscenes. Meanwhile, the Tournament mode functions similarly to other leagues, wherein players can pick one team to start their NSWL campaign, direct them through the season to life the NSWL Shield, and eventually partake in the playoffs to emerge as champions.

Circling back to the Women’s Champions League (UWCL), in addition to the existing European football clubs, FIFA 23 will give you four additional options to choose from — Real Madrid C.F., Vfl Wolfsburg, Juventus, and Eintracht Frankfurt. Here, Kick-Off will let players start their journey from the semi-final stage or head directly into the grand finals stage. Whereas, the Tournament mode begins from the quarter-finals, from where you gradually progress your quest to become the champion. For now, there is no confirmation on whether the inclusion of these new leagues will bring more unlockable achievements or trophies to FIFA 23.

A report from last month suggested that EA Sports was close to signing a $588 million (about Rs. 4,825 crore) agreement for licensing rights to all 20 English Premier League clubs. The six-year-long agreement will see EA Sports as a key partner for the EPL and is reportedly worth over double the existing agreement between the publisher and the footballing league. As it turns out, EA was looking to part ways with FIFA, after the latter reportedly demanded $1 billion (about Rs. 8,208 crore) every four years to retain the title. Both parties failed to agree on the terms, leading to EA renaming its annual football simulator as ‘EA Sports FC,’ starting this year.

Both UWCL and NWSL will be available on FIFA 23 as a free update, starting March 15. The game is available to purchase on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

FIFA 23: Ted Lasso to Be Part of EA’s New Football Game, With Fictional Club AFC Richmond

Ted Lasso might be headed to FIFA 23. In a tweet from the Apple TV+ show’s official account, the football coach, played by Emmy-winning actor Jason Sudeikis, is seen getting digitally scanned, hinting it’s for an upcoming game. EA Sports FIFA then replied to the tweet with a side-eye emoji, perhaps sealing the deal for the fictional coach’s appearance in the latest football simulation game. Furthermore, a listing for his club AFC Richmond briefly appeared on EA’s FIFA ratings database, before getting removed last week.

“Look out, Mario! You’re not the only pixelated man with a moustache who never knows where the tube is taking him…,” the tweet reads, poking fun at Lasso’s uncertain and random career path. For the uninitiated, Ted Lasso is a sports comedy series, that follows an American football college coach, who gets hired to coach a second-tier English football team, AFC Richmond. That’s two different sports. As you would expect, his arrival is met with scepticism, as he struggles to learn the sport and the culture surrounding it. The show scored four Emmy awards this year, including a second straight Outstanding Comedy Series.

Last week, leaks surfaced indicating that the fictional club AFC Richmond would make it to FIFA 23. And while there was no team logo at the time, a new screenshot on Reddit confirms the club’s inclusion, and that it could be available as a playable team. Does this mean the remaining Ted Lasso cast of players is getting scanned too? That said, it appears as though AFC Richmond players can also be transferred into your Ultimate Team or the career mode.

Last month, EA Sports revealed that FIFA 23 would allow players to step into the shoes of world-famous managers, as players pick from a template, built keeping their likeness in mind. Managers can be put in control of their main clubs, transferred onto a different one, or you can accept contracts for new opportunities. With the aforementioned Ted Lasso crossover coming up, we could see him stealing the limelight, as players use his model as club managers.

The AFC Richmond screenshots weren’t the only thing to be leaked, as last month, by EA Sports accidentally made FIFA 23 briefly playable on Xbox consoles. Those who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition were able to enter the game, grab quick screenshots, and post them online. The access was soon disabled, but the damage had already been done. Besides player ratings, the leak also ended up revealing third kits for Liverpool FC and Atlético Madrid.

FIFA 23 is out September 30 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Purchasing the Ultimate Edition or subscribing to EA Play Pro gets you three-day early access from September 27. EA Play gives you limited access from September 27. FIFA 23 Legacy Edition will be available on Nintendo Switch.

FIFA 23 India Prices for PlayStation, Xbox Tipped to Be Hiked by EA, Standard Edition to Be Affected

FIFA 23 will launch worldwide on September 23 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC, and Stadia. The game is available to pre-order via the official channels as well. Now, a reliable tipster is claiming that the publisher EA Sports and its India distributor E-xpress have hiked the prices of FIFA 23 in the country. It is believed that only PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game will be affected by this supposed increase in pricing.

According to tipster 0xSkeptic (@RishiAlwani), the cost of the FIFA 23 Standard Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X will be increased to Rs. 4,799 from Rs. 4,499. Similarly, this version could cost Rs. 4,299 instead of Rs. 3,999 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Alwani speculates that EA might have taken this step due to foreign currency fluctuations.

At the time of publishing this story, FIFA 23 Standard Edition is still available on Xbox and PlayStation for the original pricing. However, the tipster suggests that they may change soon.

FIFA 23’s pricing in India recently caused a buzz when Epic Games accidentally listed the game for Rs. 4.8 on its online store. Early birds were able to snag the game for this price instead of the Rs. 4,799 normal ask. However, no other platform experienced this error, including Steam.

Epic Games eventually corrected the error. EA Sports then sent out a series of emails to apologise for the error. Furthermore, it assured those early buyers that they will be able to keep the copy.

FIFA 23 will be the last game in the decades-spanning franchise and will be called EA Sports FC from next year as it debuts women’s leagues in the franchise for the first time. The game brings several new features like the upgraded HyperMotion2 technology, women’s leagues, and more.

FIFA 23 comes out on September 23 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Last month, EA announced that FIFA 23 would be the last FIFA-branded game from EA Sports — following titles will switch to EA Sports FC from next year. The first EA Sports FC title after FIFA 23 will be unable to include FIFA-specific content such as the World Cup.

This means that gamers on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and Google Stadia can play Online Seasons and Online Friendlies modes with others across these devices. EA Sports could be working on adding support for cross-play on other game modes for the upcoming FIFA 23 title, which expected to release later this year.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate — including EA Play, Xbox Live Gold/ Xbox network, as well as game streaming in select markets — is priced at Rs. 499 per month, or Rs. 5,999 per year on PC and console in India. EA Play is priced at Rs. 315 a month, or Rs. 1,990 a year, while EA Play Pro is priced at Rs. 999 a month, and Rs. 6,499 a year.
