Mets’ Max Scherzer, wife Erica welcome fourth child

Birthday celebrations just got a lot easier in the Scherzer household.

Mets pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife, Erica May-Scherzer, welcomed Nikki — the family’s fourth child — on Jan. 30, which also doubles as Erica’s birthday. Scherzer announced the news in a tweet with two photos on Saturday, including one where he held Nikki in front of a pink balloon and a bouquet of flowers.

“Our newest addition to our family baby Nikki!  Born 1-30-23.. All good and healthy now.  Same B-Day as the wife lol,” Scherzer wrote on Twitter.

The Mets congratulated Scherzer, their 38-year-old right-hander, on social media, quote-tweeting his announcement and sending a message to Scherzer and Erica — with blue and orange heart emojis attached at the end.

Erica had announced in August that the couple was expecting their fourth child, posting a photo of the Scherzer family that included their three oldest kids: Brooke, Kacey and Derek Alexander. They each held a balloon — representing a number one, two or three — while Erica held the “4.”

It’s the couple’s first child since Scherzer left the Nationals for the Mets following the 2021 season. Derek Alexander, their third, was born on the same day as one of Scherzer’s starts that year, and the then-Washington ace tossed a five-hitter before rushing to the hospital afterward to be with Erica for her planned C-section.

“It was pretty crazy,” Scherzer said in 2021, according to an MLB.com article shortly after Derek Alexander’s birth. “I kind of like it that way. Erica did, too. She likes it like that. She didn’t mind going to the hospital while everything was going on. It was even better to come back with a win.”

Brooke was born in 2017, while Scherzer and Erica welcomed Kacey 15 months later.

Scherzer and the Mets will start their season together over the next few weeks, as pitchers and catchers report Feb. 15 — with position players following five days later ahead of the team’s Grapefruit League games. And this year, the rotation will again be one of their strengths.

The Mets signed Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga and Jose Quintana in the offseason, though they lost Jacob DeGrom to the Rangers. Scherzer, in a three-year deal, will once again anchor one of the rotation’s top slots after a 2022 season where he went 11-5 with a 2.29 ERA, striking out 173 batters while walking 24.

49ers star Fred Warner’s wife reveals ‘NFL secrets’

Even NFL WAGs have to pay for their own tickets to games.

Sydney Warner, the wife of 49ers Pro Bowl linebacker Fred Warner, took to TikTok over the weekend to share “NFL secrets” that left some fans shook.

“Get ready with me while I tell you guys some surprising things about the NFL that I didn’t know before meeting my husband,” Sydney said. “These are all things that are specific to our team, our organization, our city and our situation.”

Sydney — a former contestant on Season 24 of “The Bachelor,” before tying the knot with Warner in June 2022 — started off by saying she was surprised by how NFL players are paid.

“They get a paycheck just like every other normal job, just like everyone else,” Sydney said, joking that she thought a Brinks truck delivered a lump sum of cash to their home. In 2021, Warner agreed to a five-year extension with the 49ers, worth more than $95 million.

As for the night before games?

“You’re not allowed to spend the night with your significant other on away games or home games,” Sydney said. “For away games they are obviously in a hotel, but if I choose to go to the same hotel, we’re not allowed to be in the same room and then home games they also sleep in a hotel.”

San Fransisco 49ers players also have to be in bed by 10:30 p.m. on the night before games and they have a “bed check” so that the team can “control the environment” before games.

Yes, WAGs are required to pay for their tickets. They also need permission from the team to go on the field before the game and snap cute couple photos that Sydney and Olivia Culpo have done many times before.

“All your tickets to games, home and away, aren’t free,” Sydney said. “They are at a discounted rate, but they’re not free.

“… You have to ask for those passes and if you get cleared you get one, you don’t just get them every game. You have to ask and be approved.”

Levi’s Stadium provides daycare for women with babies, according to Sydney, who said “you have drop them off before the game starts and you pick them up in the fourth quarter.”

Sydney waits about an hour for Warner after each game until he’s done showering, doing media and speaking with his coaches and teammates. Then when they get home, Warner will watch film for hours.

Sydney Warner shares NFL secrets in a TIkTok on Feb. 4, 2023.

In a second video, Sydney explained that the NFL prepares players’ families for the transition to the league, including meetings on money management.

The 49ers supply Super Bowl tickets to the team even if they don’t make it to the big game.

“If you don’t make it, like we didn’t make it, you get to resell them,” Sydney said, adding that the seats are located in the “nosebleeds.”

In 14 starts this season, Warner recorded 98 tackles, 10 passes defended, two sacks, one forced fumble and one interception.

Brittany Matthews drools over Patrick Mahomes’ AFC Championship look

Patrick Mahomes can thank wife Brittany Matthews for always looking sharp on Sundays.

Leading up to Sunday’s AFC Championship game between the Chiefs and Bengals in Kansas City, Matthews took to her Instagram Stories to share a photo of Mahomes, 27, as he made his way to Arrowhead Stadium.

“If you’re wondering, yes I dress him every game day, and he is always icey [sic] yes,” the 27-year-old Matthews posted alongside a photo of Mahomes, in addition to drooling and smiley face emojis.

The Mahomes post, which was originally shared on the Chiefs’ Instagram account, featured the quarterback sporting a light-color jacket over a Dior T-shirt, along with distressed jeans, white sneakers, and sunglasses.

“Cool? Nah, he’s ice cold,” the Chiefs’ social team captioned the image.

Mahomes wasn’t the only quarterback to make a fashion statement on Sunday as the Bengals’ Joe Burrow — who is well-known for his game-day ensembles — paired his pink jacket and matching slacks with a white shirt that featured a bear sporting a shirt that read, “Sorry.”

Mahomes, who suffered an ankle injury in Kansas City’s Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, is set to play Sunday. The five-time Pro Bowler will certainly be feeling the love from Chiefs Kingdom come kickoff, from Matthews especially.

Makeup artist Allison Kaye details game-day looks of NFL WAGs

When hair and makeup artist Allison Kaye was approached with the opportunity to style Sophie Scott, the girlfriend of Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, for the 2021 NFL Draft last April, the 31-year-old beauty enthusiast was encouraged to work one of the league’s biggest nights by her longtime champion, her husband.

“Honestly before then, I was just an average hair and makeup stylist who did weddings and other kinds of things,” Kaye recently recalled to The Post.

“Sophie herself had found me on Instagram and I was in our house in Florida at the time, the draft was in Cleveland, but I have a second home in Cleveland. She emailed me and my husband was like, ‘You fly up there and you go do the draft,’” she continued. “So I did and ever since then, I just started getting sports clients, specifically with the NFL.”

Sophie Scott shows off her NFL Draft glam by makeup and hair stylist Allison Kaye.

Kaye, who has been styling since the age of 6, even running a neighborhood salon out of a friend’s bathroom, continues to make a name for herself as a stylist in the sports sector, working with the likes of Allison Kuch, the wife of Browns defensive end Isaac Rochell, Alyssa Takitaki, the wife of Browns linebacker Sione Takitaki, and Hannah Lewis, the girlfriend of Patriots rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe.

Ahead of Zappe’s second career start against the Browns on Oct. 16, Lewis showed off her glamorous game-day styling from Kaye, which included a playful ponytail adorned with hair jewelry. Those pieces, according to Kaye, are something she’d like to incorporate into future looks.

“In her pony[tail], you can see the silver hair jewelry in there,” Kaye said of Lewis. “She was like, ‘I want some kind of pony,’ and I was like, ‘OK, here’s how we should do it,’ and then I have this hair jewelry and she had never seen anything like that. She was like, ‘That’s so cool,’ and [it] ended up being a hit.”

Hannah Lewis, the girlfriend of Patriots rookie quarterback Hannah Lewis, shows off her game day look in October 2022.

For Hannah Lewis’ look, Allison Kaye added hair jewelry to her client’s playful ponytail.

Hannah Lewis shows off the finish product during boyfriend Bailey Zappe’s Patriots game in October 2022.

When it comes to curating a look, it’s something of a collaboration between Kaye and the client.

“It’s just fun to see what the girls want to do and to see where their inspo [inspiration] is and kind of elevate their inspiration,” she said. “So they show me something and then, in my mind, my first thought is, how do we elevate this to make this something that people will talk about and is different?”

Styling NFL clients has been a fun experience for Kaye, as she’s been able to get “wild and creative” when producing the looks.

“What I think is awesome, specifically, about the NFL, is that their styling that I do with them can kind of be very wild and creative,” she said, “and it makes sense because it is the NFL, whereas I feel like for maybe some of the other sports, it’s a little more tame.”

For instance, when Alyssa Takitaki watched her husband’s Browns team defeat the Bengals on Halloween night Monday, Kaye created a “fun and glamorous” look for primetime.

“We decided to go with some glamorous curls but added in the braids for fun with hair jewelry incorporated into the braid [silver and gold rings] secured with Cleveland Browns color, orange, hair elastics,” Kaye shared. “Makeup-wise we kept it glamorous and fun with a glitter eyeshadow and wing.”

Allison Kaye created a special look for Alyssa Takitaki, the wife of Browns linebacker Sione Takitaki, on Oct. 31, 2022.

Alyssa Takitaki sported curls and hair jewelry during the Browns’ Halloween 2022 win over the Bengals.

Though styling for February’s Super Bowl and NFL Honors is at the top of Kaye’s bucket list, the Florida-based stylist also has her eyes on the ultimate prize.

“My goal now is to kind of be, since I don’t know of any other stylists who really are specifically niched in the NFL, is to be that and kind of be an originator of game-day glam,” Kaye said.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with them [the wives and girlfriends of players] and making game day special for them.”

Baker Mayfield’s wife, Emily, celebrates first win with Panthers

This “Victory Monday” is extra sweet for Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily.

One day after Carolina topped the New Orleans Saints, 22-14, to claim its first win of the 2022 season, Emily took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion.

“Victory Monday,” Emily captioned the post, which featured Mayfield’s biggest fan at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday.

Mayfield, who was traded to the Panthers this summer after four years with the Browns, completed 12 of 25 attempts for 170 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions in the NFC South matchup. Though happy about the victory, Mayfield said postgame there’s still “a lot of stuff to work on.”

“We’ll take wins whenever we can get them,” the 27-year-old quarterback began. “They don’t have to be pretty. Still have a lot of stuff to work on obviously. Just the way the defense played and special teams, it’s pretty great. The way we ran the ball honestly. The mood in the locker room is great. Get that first win, kind of a relief. That weight lifted off your shoulders. Just need to build on. Guys need to get use to this feeling and continue to chase it.”

Mayfield’s postgame sentiments mirrored those of Panthers coach Matt Rhule, who entered Sunday’s contest with a 10-25 record.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield walks off the field after the Panthers’ win over the Saints on Sept. 25, 2022.

“It’s not a perfect game. A lot of things we still have to improve upon. A lot of things that showed up in the first couple games are still there. But I thought our guys competed,” Rhule said.

Hours before kickoff Sunday, NFL Network reported that Panthers owner David Tepper planned “to be patient rather than reactionary” in regard to Rhule’s job status, but that “wins must come and improvement must be evident.”

Rhule, 47, was hired as the Panthers’ head coach in Jan. 2020, agreeing to a seven-year contract worth $62 million.

The Panthers will try to improve to 2-2 this coming Sunday when they host the Cardinals.

Rams’ Cooper Kupp gets cozy with wife Anna in new photo

Cooper Kupp and wife Anna are the “happiest” when they’re together.

Taking to Instagram this week, the wife of the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver shared a cozy couple’s photo that was taken ahead of Kupp’s sixth NFL season.

“Happiest here,” Anna captioned the snap that featured her and Kupp, 29, smiling beside one another as he wears his Super Bowl ring.

It’s been a memorable — and celebratory — offseason for the Kupps, who have been married since 2015. Back in February, the Pro Bowler was named the Super Bowl MVP after his Rams defeated the Bengals, 23-20, at home in Los Angeles.

“Tears flowing, heart racing, kind of happiness. Champions of the world,” Anna gushed on Instagram at the time.

Three months after Kupp hoisted the Lombardi Trophy, he and the Rams agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $110 million. He is now tied to Los Angeles for the next five seasons.

“The Los Angeles Rams made a childhood vision a reality when they showed their belief in me on draft day.. and today they showed continued faith. For that, I want to thank the Kroenke family, the front office, and Coach Mcvay,” Kupp wrote on Instagram in June.

“My family.. Anna, June, Cypress. Thank you for your willingness to allow me to play the game I love to the utmost. More than anyone else you understand the sacrifices to compete at the highest level, and you choose to join me in it as well. I am so thankful to share in that with the people I love most,” the receiver said of his wife and their two young sons.”
