13 Best Chanel Makeup Products According to a Makeup Artist

Have you ever wondered what’s in a makeup artist’s makeup bag? Well, it’s safe to say that it’s probably a combination of eye shadows, eyeliners, eye brow pencils, mascaras, foundations, blushes, lipsticks, and bronzers. However, it really comes down to the brand and the quality of the makeup that’s the biggest difference in what a professional MUA has versus an everyday beauty lover.

Kate Lee, a Chanel makeup artist, has been working alongside the brand for over 17 years. Over that time, she’s worked on the faces of some of the biggest names in Hollywood such as Anne Hathaway, Kaitlyn Dever, Emma Chamberlain, Charli D’Amelio, and other beloved celebrities to create jaw-dropping looks for award shows, television appearances, and red carpets

To get the latest scoop on the best makeup products you should buy from Chanel, Lee shared some of her favorites from over the years and why she doesn’t leave home without them.

Shop Tarte Shape Tape Concealer at its lowest price ever

When it comes to concealer, Tarte’s shaped up to be a major Hollywood favorite.

From “Real Housewives” to A-list actresses, plenty of stars keep their beauty bags stocked with the brand’s full-coverage Shape Tape ($32 $15) formula.

And right now at Ulta Beauty, the cult-favorite find is on sale for over 50% off — its lowest price ever.

“I don’t know what I’d do without it,” Kyle Richards once raved of the bestselling beauty buy on Amazon Live, explaining that she also uses it as an eyeshadow primer and for contouring her nose.

“This product is the best,” she added. “It just blends so great … It stays all day. It’s an emergency if I run out of this.”

She’s not alone in stocking up on the stuff; Shay Mitchell once called Shape Tape “something I live by” in a Vogue beauty breakdown, while “Riverdale” star Madeleine Petsh told Marie Claire she uses it “all over” her face in place of foundation.

Shawn Johnson, Dove Cameron, Meghan Trainor and Teresa Giudice (to name just a handful) are also fans of the waterproof, shea butter-packed formula, which promises 16 hours of flawless wear.

Reviewed: U Beauty’s Super Tinted Hydrator

Like I said above, skin tints aren’t normally my thing. There are a select few that I like, but even then, I tend to wear a bit of concealer underneath because they just don’t offer the amount of coverage that I like. As someone who struggles with acne, hyperpigmentation, and texture, skin tints can sometimes accentuate that and merely put a sheer coating over it. I tried this one out in the hope that I would find a winner and could potentially ditch the foundation.

U Beauty’s definitely does what it says—it’s extremely hydrating and breathable, so I really liked that aspect. It’s also really easy to blend into the skin and can definitely be built up, but I found that it wasn’t groundbreaking enough to change my mind about skin tints. I still wore a bit of concealer with this formula, which helped, but I think the coverage was just a tad too sheer for me. Granted, I only gave it a test for a day, so maybe I’ll find that I really love it after building up coverage another time.

Overall, though, it’s definitely one of the best skin tints I’ve used, and the formula is creamy and lightweight. If you are really into skin tints, I would definitely recommend this one, as it offers a great color match and gives your skin a nice dewy appearance. With a little bronzer, it even adds subtle warmth and radiance to the skin.

Jennifer Coolidge studied mortuary makeup before acting

Paulette Bonafonté may have been closer to Jennifer Coolidge’s real life than previously expected.

The “Legally Blonde” actress — who starred as the nail tech and makeup guru in the film — recently spoke to Vogue about her new Super Bowl commercial for e.l.f. Cosmetics and along with sharing her love for the retailer’s affordable makeup, she shared that her career almost took a very different path.

“I sort of thought that maybe I’d be a makeup artist, but I was not the best in the class, and who wants to be sort of mediocre at something if you pick that as a career?” Coolidge told Vogue.

She attended the Joe Blasco School in Los Angeles to study “special effects, fashion and beauty” in “a curriculum that included a mortuary makeup class” — though there were no cadavers included in class.

While she didn’t end up going the funeral home route and chose acting instead, the “White Lotus” actress did learn a thing or two during beauty school.

“If you have dark under your eyes, like black or blue, you can actually mix orange makeup in with your concealer, and it will completely cover the blue, or yellow to cover redness,” she shared.

Coolidge — who recently had a ball with her “Shotgun Wedding” co-star Jennifer Lopez at the movie’s after party — said she was attracted to the e.l.f. brand because of her commitment to animal rights, just like Elle Woods’ crusade against animal testing in the sequel to “Legally Blonde.”

“A lot of the lines sort of fake you out, and when you really read between the lines you realize that they aren’t completely cruelty-free,” she said. “The thing I love about the e.l.f. stuff—it really is like, vegan. And it’s extremely affordable.”

Coolidge is passionate about supporting brands that are cruelty free and vegan.

In a teaser for the brand’s Super Bowl ad — which was co-written by Mike White, co-creator of “The White Lotus” — Coolidge tries out the e.l.f. “Power Grip Primer” ($10), saying “get ready for prime time.”

After applying the smoothing, gel-based product, she exclaims, “Oh my God. It looks like I came from the sea! I look like a dolphin … a baby dolphin!” and even makes dolphin noises in the hilarious clip, seemingly a reference to her viral Golden Globes clip declaring her dream role would be to star as the aquatic animal.

It seems life has already imitated art for Coolidge.

Makeup artist Allison Kaye details game-day looks of NFL WAGs

When hair and makeup artist Allison Kaye was approached with the opportunity to style Sophie Scott, the girlfriend of Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, for the 2021 NFL Draft last April, the 31-year-old beauty enthusiast was encouraged to work one of the league’s biggest nights by her longtime champion, her husband.

“Honestly before then, I was just an average hair and makeup stylist who did weddings and other kinds of things,” Kaye recently recalled to The Post.

“Sophie herself had found me on Instagram and I was in our house in Florida at the time, the draft was in Cleveland, but I have a second home in Cleveland. She emailed me and my husband was like, ‘You fly up there and you go do the draft,’” she continued. “So I did and ever since then, I just started getting sports clients, specifically with the NFL.”

Sophie Scott shows off her NFL Draft glam by makeup and hair stylist Allison Kaye.

Kaye, who has been styling since the age of 6, even running a neighborhood salon out of a friend’s bathroom, continues to make a name for herself as a stylist in the sports sector, working with the likes of Allison Kuch, the wife of Browns defensive end Isaac Rochell, Alyssa Takitaki, the wife of Browns linebacker Sione Takitaki, and Hannah Lewis, the girlfriend of Patriots rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe.

Ahead of Zappe’s second career start against the Browns on Oct. 16, Lewis showed off her glamorous game-day styling from Kaye, which included a playful ponytail adorned with hair jewelry. Those pieces, according to Kaye, are something she’d like to incorporate into future looks.

“In her pony[tail], you can see the silver hair jewelry in there,” Kaye said of Lewis. “She was like, ‘I want some kind of pony,’ and I was like, ‘OK, here’s how we should do it,’ and then I have this hair jewelry and she had never seen anything like that. She was like, ‘That’s so cool,’ and [it] ended up being a hit.”

For Hannah Lewis’ look, Allison Kaye added hair jewelry to her client’s playful ponytail.

When it comes to curating a look, it’s something of a collaboration between Kaye and the client.

“It’s just fun to see what the girls want to do and to see where their inspo [inspiration] is and kind of elevate their inspiration,” she said. “So they show me something and then, in my mind, my first thought is, how do we elevate this to make this something that people will talk about and is different?”

Styling NFL clients has been a fun experience for Kaye, as she’s been able to get “wild and creative” when producing the looks.

“What I think is awesome, specifically, about the NFL, is that their styling that I do with them can kind of be very wild and creative,” she said, “and it makes sense because it is the NFL, whereas I feel like for maybe some of the other sports, it’s a little more tame.”

For instance, when Alyssa Takitaki watched her husband’s Browns team defeat the Bengals on Halloween night Monday, Kaye created a “fun and glamorous” look for primetime.

“We decided to go with some glamorous curls but added in the braids for fun with hair jewelry incorporated into the braid [silver and gold rings] secured with Cleveland Browns color, orange, hair elastics,” Kaye shared. “Makeup-wise we kept it glamorous and fun with a glitter eyeshadow and wing.”

Allison Kaye created a special look for Alyssa Takitaki, the wife of Browns linebacker Sione Takitaki, on Oct. 31, 2022.

Alyssa Takitaki sported curls and hair jewelry during the Browns’ Halloween 2022 win over the Bengals.

Though styling for February’s Super Bowl and NFL Honors is at the top of Kaye’s bucket list, the Florida-based stylist also has her eyes on the ultimate prize.

“My goal now is to kind of be, since I don’t know of any other stylists who really are specifically niched in the NFL, is to be that and kind of be an originator of game-day glam,” Kaye said.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with them [the wives and girlfriends of players] and making game day special for them.”
