Realme Watch 3 Pro India Launch Confirmed, Teased to Feature AMOLED Display

Realme Watch 3 with 1.8-inch touchscreen display was recently unveiled in India. Now, the Chinese electronics brand is all set to launch another new wearable in the country with the Realme Watch 3 Pro moniker. Although the company is yet to announce the exact date of its debut, it has teased the arrival of the Realme Watch 3 Pro via a dedicated landing page on its website. The upcoming model will sport an AMOLED display and is likely to succeed Realme Watch 2 Pro which made its debut in India in July last year.

Through a dedicated microsite, Realme has teased the India launch and key specifications of the Realme Watch 3 Pro. The listing, however, does not specify the exact launch date of the upcoming smartwatch. The smartwatch is speculated to launch alongside the Realme 9i 5G on August 18.

The Realme Watch 3 Pro is shown with a rectangular black dial with a side-mounted button for navigation. The wearable could also offer Bluetooth calling support that allows users to receive and make calls directly from their wrists. It is likely to be positioned above the recently launched Realme Watch 3 in the country.

The upcoming Realme Watch 3 Pro is likely to come with upgrades over the Realme Watch 2 Pro smartwatch launched in the country in July last year with a price tag of Rs. 4,999. The price of new wearable could be aligned with this, although the company is yet to make an announcement related to its pricing.

The Realme Watch 2 Pro sports a 1.75-inch (320×385 pixels) colour touchscreen and has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It supports both heart rate and SpO2 monitoring and offers over 100 watch faces for customisation. The Realme Watch 2 Pro connects with a smartphone using the Realme Link app and works with both Android and iOS. It packs 390mAh battery and offers Bluetooth v5 connectivity, according to the company.

Xiaomi Leads Indian Smartphone Market Share With 20 Percent Share in Q2 2022, CMR Report Says

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi led the Indian smartphone market during the April-June 2022 period despite a 22 percent decline in its sales volume, a Cyber Media Research (CMR) report said on Thursday. Xiaomi stayed on top position with 20 percent market share, followed by Samsung with 18 percent share. The Korean phone maker, however, led the growth in 5G phone category with 28 percent market share in that segment, according to the report.

CMR report estimates that 5G smartphone shipments grew 7 percent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and a stupendous 163 percent year-on-year during the April-June 2022 quarter.

Apple topped the super-premium (Rs. 50,000 — 1,00,000) segment with 78 percent market share with iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series contributing the majority of the iPhone shipments during the quarter, the report said.

“Shipments of 5G capable smartphones have been growing robustly over the last few quarters. With the completion of 5G auctions, and anticipated roll-out of 5G services in India shortly, there will be further momentum in 5G smartphone shipments. During the second quarter of 2022, consumer demand ebbed owing to the overall macro-economic environment,” Menka Kumari, CMR analyst for Industry Intelligence Group, said in a statement.

In overall smartphone market, Realme shipments grew 22 percent and the company maintained its third spot with 16 percent share. Vivo and Oppo followed Realme at fourth and fifth spot with 15 and 10 percent market share, respectively.

Chinese feature phone maker Itel occupied top spot in the feature phone segment with 25 percent market share. It was followed by Lava whose shipment grew by 21 percent, helping the home-grown mobile company to capture 21 percent share in the feature phone category.

Samsung occupied third spot in the feature phone market with 11 percent market share despite a dip of 25 percent in shipment volume.

Nokia’s shipment volume declined by 8 percent and its market share slipped to 10 percent in June quarter from 11 percent in March 2022 quarter, according to the report.

CMR estimates the overall smartphone shipments to touch 174 million mark in the calendar year 2022.

“We anticipate the second half (H2) of 2022 to potentially see some easing of supply-side constraints on the run-up to the festive season.

“With major smartphone brands lining up their flagship launches in H2 2022, consumer demand in the premium smartphone segment will continue to remain robust with strong consumer appetite to switch and upgrade,” said Amit Sharma, CMR analyst for Industry Intelligence Group.

Smartphone Sales in China Hit Nearly a Decade Low in Q2 2022: Counterpoint

Smartphone sales in China have slid by 14.2 percent year-on-year (YoY) in the second quarter 2022, according to Counterpoint Research’s Market Pulse Service. Honor is said to have doubled their handset sales in the same period, making it the only brand that reported a YoY increase. Chinese phone brand, Realme, reportedly saw a decrease of 44.3 percent YoY. Compared to the first quarter of 2020, the sales in China are 12.6 percent lower. The report added that last time the China’s smartphone sales were lower than this was in the fourth quarter of 2012.

According to a report by Counterpoint Research’s Market Pulse Service, the smartphone sales in China have hit nearly a decade low. The YoY sales in the South-East Asian country have dipped 14.2 percent in the second quarter of this year. The last time the sales were below this mark was in the fourth quarter of 2012, when the iPhone 5 was launched. In this quarter, the sales have reportedly plummeted 12.6 percent in comparison to the first quarter of 2020.

According to Counterpoint’s Senior Analyst Ivan Lam, given the low sales volume number for Q2 (second quarter) 2022, the smartphone sales are expected to rebound in the next quarter. He also said that it might be difficult to make the situation better in the second half when compared to last year.

Although, the sector as a whole has witnessed a decline, Honor is the only brand that saw a YoY increase in smartphone sales. According to the report, this can be attributed to the fact that the company has expanded its offline presence in China. The company is said to have doubled their YoY smartphone sales in the quarter.

Research analyst at the company, Mengmeng Zhang, stated that during the quarter, Vivo maintained its leadership. “The mid-to-high-end S12 series helped Vivo grab a good share in the $250-$399 (roughly Rs. 19,900 – Rs. 31,800) segment. Sub-brand iQOO also received positive market feedback, especially from younger customers,” he said. As per the report, Realme saw a drop of 44.3 percent in sales in China.

Meanwhile, sales of Apple have been reported to be relatively good bolstered by the iPhone 13 series in Q2 2022 in China. Xiaomi witnessed an increase in sales in June because of Redmi K50 and Note 11 series.

Counterpoint report mentioned that the foldable smartphone sales in the first half of 2022 have surpassed that of 2021. Huawei lead the segment in H2 2022, followed by Samsung and Oppo.
