God of War Ragnarök 3-Hour Free Trial Now Available for PS Plus Deluxe/ Premium Members

God of War Ragnarök is now available as a three-hour free trial on the PS Plus Deluxe/ Premium subscription. The trial debuted in North America earlier this week and has now arrived in India and the rest of the world — for both PS4 and PS5 owners. While the gameplay and mechanics aren’t too far off from what you might have experienced in the 2018 God of War, this trial period should be ample time to get a feel for Santa Monica Studio’s latest. The winner of six trophies at The Game Awards 2022, it was recently announced that this game sold over 11 million copies in the three months since its launch.

“If you haven’t picked up God of War Ragnarök already, now’s the perfect time to give it a shot!”, a tweet from Santa Monica Studio reads. If you choose to purchase the title after the trial period has ended, all progress and earned trophies will be carried over. Priced at Rs. 4,999, God of War Ragnarök resumes Kratos and his now-teenage son Atreus’ journey into the Nine Realms in pursuit of answers, as Asgardian forces prepare for Ragnarök, a prophesied great battle that will bring about the end of the Nordic era. Starting their trip amidst Fimbulwinter, the pair encounter several mythical beings, gods, and monsters, all the while trying to avoid Freya, the former Queen of the Valkyries, whose son was murdered by our heroes. When compared to the 2018 reboot, there are only minor changes in mechanics — Kratos can now grapple onto ledges using his Blades of Chaos, and infuse his weapons with elemental attacks such as ice and fire.

A PS Plus Deluxe/ Premium subscription costs Rs. 849 per month in India, and offers multiplayer access, cloud storage, the aforementioned game trial, PS Classics titles, and access to a set of games each month. This month, Sony has included the critically-acclaimed Horizon Forbidden West in the catalogue, along with third-party titles such as The Quarry and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Previously, the company offered The Last of Us Part I as a two-hour trial, in celebration of the HBO series’ premiere.

Sony has also announced the PS Plus Festival of Play event, which runs until February 24, granting special rewards to both members and those who aren’t subscribed. All PS Plus members — Essential, Extra, and Deluxe — get exclusive discounts on the PlayStation Store. Additionally, if you join the PlayStation Stars loyalty programme — which is free — you will receive digital collectibles for playing and collecting trophies in certain games. From February 18–19, Sony is holding a free multiplayer weekend as well, to give non-members a chance to experience what it’s like to go head-to-head with other players online. Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, Life is Strange Lead PlayStation Plus Extra, Deluxe Games for January 2023

Devil May Cry 5 and two games from the Life is Strange series lead the January lineup of free games coming to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/ Premium catalogue. Starting January 17, higher-tier PS Plus subscribers gain access to the former critically-acclaimed title, where you hack and slash through a hellish incursion when the seeds of a “demon tree” take root in Red Grave City. Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will be available to play on PS5 — the PS4 version will also make its way to PS Plus Extra subscribers. Keeping in line with the action affair, Back 4 Blood also arrives on the platform. The game lets you team up with up to three other players and hunt down zombies, work together to gather resources, and survive increasingly challenging missions. Back 4 Blood will be available to play on both PS4 and PS5.

If narrative-focused games are your jam, then do check out the award-winning, episodic adventure Life is Strange. In it, you play Max Caulfield, a photography senior who discovers the ability to rewind time and gets entangled in a mystery involving several missing teenage girls in Arcadia Bay. January’s PS Plus higher-tier offerings follow it up with the prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, which charts the tale of a 16-year-old rebel Chloe Price, who forms an unlikely friendship with the uber-popular Rachel Amber. Both Life is Strange titles will be up on PS4. In a similar vein, this month, we’ve also got Erica, an FMV (full-motion video) interactive thriller, where you shape the choices and consequences of the titular character, who is plagued by nightmares of her father’s murder.

In Dragon Ball FighterZ, you can build your dream team of characters and sharpen your skills to master tag-team combinations in 3v3 fights. The included story mode pits you against Android 21, a brand-new character, whose creation was supervised by mangaka Akira Toriyama himself. Then, strap in your wingsuit and feel free to blow up structures in the action-packed Just Cause 4: Reloaded, as you cycle between multiple weapons and vehicles.

Sony unveiled the list on its PlayStation Blog, revealing all the new games available to PS Plus Extra and Deluxe members in January (PS Plus Deluxe is known as PS Plus Premium in select markets). Last month’s catalogue included three Far Cry games, alongside Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, to name just a few.

The blog post also mentions the PS Plus Classics Catalogue, exclusive to the PS Plus Deluxe/ Premium members. This month brings Syphon Filter 3, Star Wars Demolition, and Hot Shots Golf 2.

PlayStation Plus Deal: Extra, Deluxe Tiers on 40 Percent Discount for 3, 12-month plans

PlayStation Plus is being discounted for all subscribers until Friday, January 13. Membership costs for the multi-month, higher-tier PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/ Premium plans are down by up to 40 percent. But there’s a catch — price cuts are applicable only to the three-month and 12-month plans. Existing PS Plus Essential/ Extra users can upgrade their memberships at a 30 percent savings. You’ll need to pay for the rest of the subscription period, which can run into several years if you’ve it stacked. Meanwhile, new PS Plus users can enjoy 34 percent discount on PS Plus Deluxe/ Premium plans, and 40 percent off PS Plus Extra plans.

Of course, all PS Plus subscriptions come with a seven-day trial period. PS Plus is subject to a recurring fee drawn automatically until cancellation, so if you’re dissatisfied within the trial period, make sure you cancel it on time.

But wait, what are the differences between the three PS Plus tiers available in India? The basic tier, which grants a few free games every month and access to online multiplayer, is not getting a discount. PS Plus Essential starts at Rs. 499 per month.

The middle ‘Extra’ tier sees a flat 40 percent discount on its three and 12-month plans, with the former costing Rs.1,199, after which the price goes up to Rs. 1,999 every three months. Meanwhile, the 12-month PS Plus Extra package now costs Rs. 2,999, which after a year, goes up to Rs. 4,999. In this tier, you receive all the benefits of the PS Plus Essential plan, in addition to a catalogue of monthly games, cloud storage, access to PS5 Game Help, and other exclusive content. For the record, a one-month PS Plus Extra subscription costs Rs. 749, which makes this offer irresistible.

Up next is the PS Plus Deluxe plan, which usually starts at Rs. 849 monthly without a discount. The discount here is by the aforementioned 34 percent, with the three-month subscription now costing Rs. 1,499, down from Rs. 2,299. Meanwhile, the year-long PS Plus Deluxe plan is now listed at Rs. 3,749, cutting down from the pricey Rs. 5,749 price tag. The top tier comes with all benefits from the previous two plans and adds a Classics catalogue, bringing some timeless games to the platform, in addition to a game trial feature.

Earlier this month, Sony unveiled the three free games coming to all PS Plus plans in January. For a limited time, existing members can get a flat 30 percent discount on upgrades, and new members can avail a 34 and 40 percent discount, respectively, for three- and 12-month Deluxe and Extra plans.

Sony Informs Developers Must Release Free 2-Hour Game Trials for PlayStation Plus Deluxe: Report

Sony has reportedly told developers to create free timed trials of their games for its upcoming highest tier of the new subscription, PlayStation Plus Premium (PlayStation Plus Deluxe in India). These free trials are purportedly required to be at least two-hour long. This policy is expected to only apply to games that will have a wholesale cost of over $34 (roughly Rs. 2,600). Furthermore, developers are expected to release free game trials only for upcoming titles. Already released games and PlayStation VR titles are believed to be exempted from this new policy.

The report from Game Developer suggests that developers would be given up to three months to release these trials from the date of the launch of their game on the PlayStation Store. They would have to keep these free trials live for at least 12 months for PlayStation Plus Deluxe and Premium users. Sony is said to be even open to custom game demos. Developers are supposedly still allowed to release games for free weekends and other promotional offers outside the PlayStation Plus Deluxe / Premium tier.

Ethan Gack from Kotaku suggests that these free game trials could be developed by the PlayStation Store team, which might prevent relatively smaller studios from getting overburdened with extra work. Still, concerns remain over these timed trials negatively impacting game sales. Also, Sony is believed to be not offering any extra perks to developers for releasing these free trials.

The all-new PlayStation Plus gaming subscription service has been confirmed to arrive in India on June 22. This three-tier service is divided into the PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Deluxe in India. Globally, the regions that support cloud streaming will receive the slightly expensive PS Plus Premium as the top subscription tier, instead of PS Plus Deluxe.
