Well-known tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) on Weibo claimed that the OnePlus Open 2 will be launched in the first quarter of 2025. It is said to run on Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Qualcomm is expected to unveil the chipset in October this year.

The rumoured OnePlus Open successor is tipped to have an upgraded hinge to reduce weight, an “ultra-flat” inner screen, a high-resolution cover screen, and a thin design. The OnePlus Open was unveiled in India in October 2023 with a price tag of Rs. 1,39,999 for the sole 16GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration. It has a 7.82-inch (2,268×2,440 pixels) 2K Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED inner display and a 6.31-inch (1,116×2,484 pixels) 2K LTPO 3.0 Super Fluid AMOLED cover screen. OnePlus 12, OnePlus Open Spotted Offering Bloatware During Setup, Company Responds: Report

OnePlus 12 and OnePlus Open are the top-of-the-line handsets from the Chinese smartphone maker. Now, users of these smartphones have claimed that their smartphones offered to install ‘bloatware’ apps. A user took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim that OnePlus is installing up to four additional third-party apps on the OnePlus 12 in India during the device setup process. These unwanted apps appear under the “From OnePlus” header in the “Review additional apps” screen during the setup. The issue has since been addressed by the company.

X user Gauraang Arora spotted a new “Review additional apps” screen presented during the setup process on his OnePlus 12. This screen shows four Google Play apps pre-selected by default — LinkedIn, Policybazaar, Block Blast And Candy Crush Saga. These apps were located under a header that reads “From OnePlus”.

Android Authority recently tested the setup process in three regions and found that four apps are pre-selected during setup on Indian variants of the OnePlus 12 running the latest Oxygen OS 14.0.0.610 build. The US reportedly offers one third-party app, while there are no pre-selected apps presented in the EU. Users can opt out of installing the listed apps, which are selected by default. However, there are chances that they might skip through the setup process pushing the bloatware on their handsets.

Additionally, the publication found three more pre-installed Meta apps — Meta App Installer, Meta App Manager, and Meta Services on the OnePlus Open. All these Meta apps were reportedly spotted on the OnePlus 8 series earlier and the brand had been criticised for this inclusion as they cannot be easily uninstalled from the handsets.

OnePlus has reportedly addressed the issue saying it was in error. “The soft-preloads on OnePlus 12 was an error made during testing and has been rectified as of May 6. The OnePlus 12 does not come pre-loaded with any of these apps and will continue to remain light, fast and smooth” OnePlus told Android Authority.

The company added that it keeps OxygenOS bloatware free, but the company admits that there were two pre-installed apps (Instagram and Agoda) on the OnePlus Nord CE 4. It also said the apps are as simple to remove or uninstall and the company is working closely with app developers to ensure better performance on OnePlus devices.

Prominent tipster 1NormalUsername on X suggests that more bloatware will head to the OnePlus 12 in the latest OxygenOS version. Third-party apps like Fitbit, Bubble Pop, Facebook, Amazon, Amazon Music, Amazon Prime Video, Zomato, Agoda and Swiggy could either be pre-installed or will be shown as APK shortcuts.

Foldable Smartphones Shipments Break Records in Q3 2023, Samsung Leads Market Share: Report

Foldable smartphones were more popular in the third quarter of 2023 than was anticipated earlier, according to a new report. The shipments of foldable smartphones and their panels surged in the quarter due to two major reasons, as per the numbers revealed in the study – firstly, the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 in July this year and secondly, the sheer rise in the number of foldable smartphones launched from different brands, especially in China.

According to the Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) report, the shipments of foldable smartphones in Q3 2023 rose 215 percent Quarter-on-Quarter and 16 percent Year-on-Year to 7 million units. This is 1 percent above the outlook and surpasses the earlier record of 6.1 million units in Q3 2022 by 16 percent. South Korean OEM Samsung led market share in the quarter with 76 percent, with leading demands in European markets, as per the report.

Huawei claimed the second spot in the market share at 9 percent. The company launched the Huawei Mate X3 in March this year with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and a 4,800Ah battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging support. The book-style foldable carries a 7.85-inch (2,224×2,496 pixels) OLED inner display and a 6.4-inch OLED (1,080×2,504 pixels) cover panel.

Honor grabbed onto the third spot with an 8 percent market share with its Magic V2 model. This is another book-style foldable smartphone launched in China. It is backed by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and a 5,000mAh battery with 66W Honor SuperCharge support. This phone features a 7.92-inch interior display with a resolution of 2,344 x 2,156 pixels, and a 6.43-inch outer screen with a resolution of 2,376 x 1,060 pixels.

The DSCC report added that in Q4 2023, foldable smartphone shipments are expected to fall 35 percent QoQ and rise 47 percent YoY to 3.6 million. Samsung’s brand share is also expected to take a tumble to land at 42 percent, according to the report.

DSCC CEO Ross Young noted that the entry of new players in the foldable smartphones market with Google Pixel Fold, OnePlus Open, Tecno Phantom V Flip and Tecno Phantom V Fold has helped this rise in shipments.

OnePlus Pad to Get OnePlus Open’s Open Canvas Feature

OnePlus’s first foldable — OnePlus Open — powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC debuted last month. The book-style foldable smartphone arrived with a new feature called Open Canvas that allows users to handle split-screen multitasking on the foldable. It lets users view multiple applications simultaneously, in either full-screen or compact mode, along with simple gestures. Now, the Chinese tech brand is bringing this functionality to its first tablet offering — the OnePlus Pad. The Open Canvas is expected to provide an improved multitasking experience on the OnePlus Pad’s 11.61-inch screen.

In an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, OnePlus confirmed that the Open Canvas feature is coming to the OnePlus Pad. However, there’s no word about when that will happen. “We’ve gotten several requests to add the stunningly intuitive Open Canvas to the OnePlus Pad, and good news — we’re working on it! Keep your eyes peeled,” the company posted. It was first spotted by tipster OneNormalUsername (@1NormalUsername). As the tablet features an 11.61-inch display, this development will allow OnePlus Pad users to access multiple apps on the screen at the same time.

The Open Canvas feature was first introduced in OnePlus Open. It enables multi-window operations and displays up to three windows on the screen at the same time. Users can extend split-screen apps and flow beyond the display and apps can be nudged, swiped and pulled for maximum multitasking.

The OnePlus Open was launched in October with a price tag of Rs. 1,39,999 for the single 16GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration.

On the specifications front, it runs on OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13 and sports a 7.82-inch (2,268×2,440 pixels) 2K Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED display. Oppo Find N3 With Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, 12GB RAM Surfaces on Geekbench

Oppo Find N2 with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC debuted in China in December last year. Now, Oppo seems to be gearing up to unveil a new book-style foldable smartphone — the Oppo Find N3. Ahead of any official announcement, the Chinese variant of the upcoming Find series smartphone has allegedly surfaced on the Geekbench benchmarking site. The Oppo Find N3 is listed with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, paired with 12GB RAM. It is expected to debut in international markets with the OnePlus Open moniker.

An Oppo handset has been spotted on the Geekbench website with the model number Oppo PHN110 on October 8. OnePlus Foldable Smartphone Could Launch With ‘OnePlus Open’ Moniker: Details

OnePlus foldable smartphone was initially teased earlier this year in February at the Cloud 11 launch event. Although the company has been mum on the matter ever since, there have been continuous speculations about the design, price, launch timeline and other relevant specifications of the purported handset. Leaked renders have also previously hinted at the handset’s design and certain camera details. The Shenzhen-based mobile manufacturer has not even confirmed a model name so far. Now, a tipster has leaked the moniker that could be used for the first-ever OnePlus book-style foldable handset.

Tipster Max Jambor (@MaxJmb) shared on Twitter that OnePlus is planning to launch its foldable phone with the moniker OnePlus Open. He also claims that the company considered several other model names such as OnePlus Prime, OnePlus Peak, OnePlus Edge and OnePlus Wing.

Notably, when the model was first teased, it was tipped to carry the names OnePlus V Fold and OnePlus V Flip, varying in certain regions. Over time, the phone was said to be called the OnePlus Fold or OnePlus V Fold.

The OnePlus foldable phone is expected to sport a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED inner screen and a 6.3-inch AMOLED outer display, both with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The handset has been tipped to come with an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC paired with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage. It is likely to run Android 13-based Oxygen OS 13.1 out-of-the-box.

Leaked renders have suggested that the upcoming foldable smartphone will feature a black lychee-like leather finish. The back panel is seen with a large circular centre-aligned camera module with Hasselblad-branded cameras including a periscope lens claimed to offer image quality akin to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. The phone is expected to include a 50-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 48-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens, a 32-megapixel sensor with a periscope lens at the back and carry two 32-megapixel selfie camera sensors.

The phone has previously been tipped to be offered in three colour options – black, gold, and green. It is expected to launch in China first, but is likely to eventually witness a global rollout in all markets where OnePlus models are currently available. It has been said that the global rollout will include the Indian and US markets, as well.
