The 33rd Team says this pass rusher was better than Lawrence Taylor

The 33rd Team ranked the top 10 pass rushers of all time and only Reggie White was ranked above New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor.

This is what the 33rd Team had to say about the cross-town rival in the 80s.

Averaging an incredible 13 sacks a season, including a final year with only 5.5 sacks after taking the entire previous season off, Reggie White’s career had historic peaks and longevity. A superstar with the Philadelphia Eagles, totaling 124 sacks in eight years, including 21-sack and 18-sack seasons, White became the best NFL free-agency signing ever when he inked a deal with the Green Bay Packers at 31 years old.

At that point, White was supposed to be on the downside of his career, coming off six All-Pro seasons, but he was far from done. White spent six seasons in Green Bay, earning another two first-team spots. His 68.5 sacks in six seasons were punctuated by his final year, earning the 1998 Defensive Player of the Year Award with 16 sacks at 37.

Smith certainly earned the all-time sacks record, but he also needed four additional seasons to top White’s career mark of 198. White’s high-end impact throughout his career is the blueprint for how the position is judged historically, and there’s no better indicator of being the greatest of all time at one’s craft.

And this is what the 33rd Team had to say about the most dominant pass rusher of all time.

The title of best pass rusher of all time is basically a coin flip between Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White. Taylor revolutionized the outside linebacker position, proving to be far too explosive and violent to be contained. He was transcendent, and the fact that he ranks ninth all-time in sacks shouldn’t undermine his impact on the game.

Upon landing with the New York Giants from North Carolina, Taylor was an immediate star. The No. 2 pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, Taylor won Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year with 9.5 sacks. He finished his career nabbing an NFL MVP Award, two more Defensive Player of the Year nods, 10 Pro Bowls, and eight All-Pro nominations.

Although he didn’t have the longevity of some peers, totaling 18 sacks in his final three seasons before retiring at 34, Taylor’s peak might be the best we’ve ever seen from any position.

Taylor single-handedly changed the face of the NFL with his dominance at the edge position. He is accredited with the increase in value in offensive tackles and protecting the quarterback’s blind side.

The accolades to back Taylor’s case as not only the best pass rusher but also the best defensive player of all time are unfathomable. He is tied for the most Defensive Player of the Year Awards, winning one his first his rookie season and being the only player to ever do so.

Taylor also is one of two players to win the MVP as a defensive player, a feat that should not be taken lightly. Finally, Taylor catapulted the Giants’ franchise into relevancy as he led the way to two Super Bowls.

The first of these Super Bowls came during his 1986 season, which may be the greatest football season of all time. In that season, Taylor recorded 20.5 sacks in the regular season, won both the Defensive Player of the Year and the MVP, and recorded a 34-yard pick-six on a playoff run that led to the Giants winning their first-ever Super Bowl.

The Minister of Defense also deserves his flowers as he was a feared man throughout his reign in the NFL, finishing with 1,111 tackles and 198 sacks (second all-time). His dominance combined with his longevity was unparalleled and when you talk about the most complete and comprehensive body of work it’s no surprise that White takes the cake.

But in terms of their peak and the accolades to show from that period, it appears that Taylor has a little more silverware in his closet (one more Super Bowl, DPOY, and MVP) and is the slightly better pass rusher.

Ex-NFL star Ryan Clark backs Jonathan Owens over controversial Simone Biles comments

ESPN NFL analyst and “Pivot” podcast host Ryan Clark defended Packers safety Jonathan Owens who recently came under fire for his controversial comments on his relationship with famed US Olympian Simone Biles.

“Everyone is now twisting and taking that and then making it something negative,” Clark said. “What people haven’t done is watch the entire show. Watch him say that she wasn’t scared and once they finally went on a date, it was history.”

Earlier this week, Owens caught flack when he claimed he “didn’t know” who the 7-time Olympic medalist was when they first matched on the dating app Raya in 2020 when he appeared on Clark’s podcast.

Owens, who signed with the Packers in May, also said he felt he was the “catch” in the relationship.

“I always say that the men are the catch,” Owens told Clark on The Pivot Podcast.

Clark believes most critics are nitpicking what Owens had to say on the podcast instead of focusing on the 28-year-old’s passionate discussion.

“He was telling the story about how he met his wife Simone on our show,” Clark said. “And she was also there. He told the story with so much love in their eyes and every time they looked at one another, you can tell how beautiful it was to them.”

Jonathan Owens said he “didn’t know” who Simone Biles was when they first matched on the dating app Raya in 2020 since he “never really paid attention to gymnastics.” simonebiles/Instagram

“Listen to him talk about their 2020 conversation while she was at the Olympics, as he encouraged her that she could be okay. And when she wasn’t — the time he took away with her, even getting married during that time, and now Simone Biles is back to the Simone Biles we know,” he added.

Clark had referred to when Biles went through her fateful struggles with the “Twisties,” which can cause someone to lose their sense of space and dimension as they’re in the air, during her Olympic run in Tokyo.

“Instead of being happy for two people who are excited to be together, two people who support one another wholeheartedly, we’ve now decided to pick apart one clip instead of learning the whole story. So, the moral of the story is this: If Simone Biles is happy, why aren’t you?” Clark argued.

“…Just because you feel like he should be worshiping the gymnast Simone Biles, doesn’t mean that you can’t respect that he’s in love with the woman Simone Biles,” he says before the video ends.

Biles has seemingly responded to the ongoing outcry on Friday, posting a loving photo of the two from their wedding day

“🤞🏾💋 for life,” she commented under the Packers player’s Instagram post, making it known she was “unbothered.”

Biles also shared a meme on her X account, captioning it, “Are y’all done yet?”

“Just know we locked in over here 🤞🏽,” Owens added with a series of photos showing the couple.

Giants are now 6.5-point home underdogs vs. Packers in Week 14

The New York Giants (4-8) are currently a 6.5-point underdog for their Week 14 matchup against the Green Bay Packers (6-6) on Monday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

That is up from 6 points earlier in the week. The over/under, which opened at 38 total points, is down to 37.5.

The money line is currently Giants +240, Packers -300, per BetMGM.

In a game that was once a candidate to be ‘flexed out’ by the league in favor of a more attractive matchup, the Giants and Packers have recently turned their seasons around and are playing their best football of 2023.

The Giants won their most recent two contests before going on their by this past week while the Packers are winners of three straight, with victories over the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs.

The Packers currently hold the seventh and final playoff berth in the NFC. The Giants are also still alive, but are two full games back in the 12th spot.

Giants’ Evan Neal out, Dexter Lawrence questionable vs. Packers

The New York Giants closed out their practice slate on Saturday afternoon, wrapping up their third session in four days.

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence, who is nursing a hamstring injury, was a practice participant for the second straight day (and third as a projected participant). Head coach Brian Daboll said he will be listed as questionable and stands a chance to play in Week 14.

Daboll was equally hopeful for fellow defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson, who has also been hobbled by a hamstring issue.

Meanwhile, tight end Daniel Bellinger missed his second consecutive day of practice due to an illness. He is questionable but should play assuming his health improves over the next 48 hours.

As anticipated, right tackle Evan Neal remains out and it’s unclear when (or if) he’ll return to the field this season.

3 reasons for optimism in Week 14

The New York Giants will return from their bye week to host the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Both teams are sporting a winning streak and the Packers are favored by nearly a touchdown heading into the Week 14 game.

The Packers are currently the final seed in the NFC playoff picture and certainly hope to remain in the hunt and control their own destiny moving forward.

Meanwhile, after two straight wins, although unlikely, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Big Blue to make the playoffs. However, they certainly have a lot of work to do in order to reach that goal.

Monday night’s matchup will go a long way toward both team’s playoff hopes.

Here are three reasons for optimism heading into Monday night’s matchup.

Al Bello/Getty Images

There is in the air at MetLife Stadium surrounding Tommy DeVito.

When DeVito was announced before the Giants’ Week 12 win against the New England Patriots, fans roared as the New Jersey native ran out of the tunnel.

Jersey sales are soaring for the Giants’ third-string quarterback and he has really given fans something to cheer about in the midst of a disappointing season.

Certainly, there have been some positives in DeVito’s play as a starter for Big Blue; including back-to-back wins, which likely led to him being named the starter earlier this week.

It hasn’t been perfect, but the fans are coming together around the story of the quarterback they call ‘Tommy Cutlets.’

Rob Carr/Getty Images

The Packers have not turned the ball over during their three-game winning streak.

The Giants’ defense will be a real test as they have won the turnover battle in three straight games and have forced nine turnovers during their two-game winning streak.

With the Packers playing the way they are, expect Wink Martindale to draw up some blitzes to get pressure on Jordan Love and make him uncomfortable to try and force the Packers to make a mistake.

Running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson are currently questionable for Monday’s game. Those are two pretty big playmakers to be in question for this matchup.

Even if either of them plays, they won’t be at 100% percent and certainly, that would be a big challenge for Love to overcome.

With some Green Bay playmakers banged up, the Giants’ defense could shine in this one.

Giants vs. Packers: 6 keys to victory in Week 14

The New York Giants rolled into the bye week with momentum after defeating the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots back-to-back.

The week off gave injured players some much-needed rest and a chance to rehab their bodies. They return to the field this week when they host the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.

The Packers are having a better season than most anticipated, and it’s not just because of Jordan Love.

If the Giants want to keep their winning momentum this week, there are six things they must do to beat the Packers.

3 best player prop bets for Week 14

The New York Giants (4-8) host the Green Bay Packers (6-6) at MetLife Stadium this coming Monday night in a game that could have postseason ramifications.

The betting populace will be zoning in on this nationally televised game, but what should they be looking at?

Here are three prop bets you might want to consider, per BetMGM.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Not much of a risk, but a very winnable bet. Saquon Barkley has only gone over 100 yards on the ground once this season (against the Jets in Week 8) but is still averaging 77.4 yards per game.

He faces a sieve of a rushing defense this week in the Packers, who have allowed 160.7 rushing yards per game over their last four.

With the Giants coming off a bye and seeking to feature Barkley in the offense, this seems like a solid play.

Mark Hoffman/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Again, not going to break the back with this one. Most will be betting over based on Jordan Love’s recent rise, which has seen him average 286.5 yards per game over his past four.

But they are not taking into consideration the Giants’ performance against the pass this year. They have allowed over 230 yards passing in just three of their 12 games and those were against Dak Prescott, Tua Tagovailoa, and Brock Purdy. They’ve contained everyone else.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Romeo Doubs is the Packers’ leader in targets and receptions and is averaging 42.1 yards receiving per game. Jayden Reed is averaging 42.8.

Both players could eclipse this number, especially if Christian Watson (hamstring) is listed as doubtful or out.

Giants have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers this year, so this is a good spot for both players.
