Google Pixel 9 Design Leaked in New Renders; Could Debut Alongside Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL

Google usually unveils two flagship phones in October every year. This year, the tech giant might opt for a new smartphone launch strategy by introducing three models — Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9. A prominent tipster now claims that the CAD-based renders that surfaced online earlier this year were of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The tipster has now leaked the Pixel 9 design in new renders. The images suggest a dual rear camera setup on the Pixel 9 and a smaller screen.

CAD-based renders of the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro first emerged in January this year. Now, tipster Steve H.McFly (@OnLeaks), in association with 91Mobiles, claims that the renders published earlier were of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The publication has now shared alleged CAD images of the vanilla Pixel 9.

The newly leaked renders suggest a compact design for the Pixel 9 with a thick rear camera module. It seems to have rounded corners with a flat display and flat frames. It will reportedly get a 6.03-inch display. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro is said to get a 6.1-inch display and the Pixel 9 XL’s could offer a 6.5-inch screen. The screen appears to have a centrally located hole punch cutout for a selfie shooter. The phone is seen with a dual rear camera unit. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are expected to offer a triple rear camera setup. 

Further, the new report states that the Pixel 9 will measure around 152.8×71.9×8.5mm, and 12mm with the rear camera bump.

Google’s Pixel 8 series with the vanilla Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro was launched in October last year at the ‘Made by Google’ event. Therefore, the company is expected to announce the Pixel 9 phones around the same time this year. The upcoming handsets could run on Android 15 and use the company’s in-house Tensor G4 SoC.

Google Pixel 9 Series Could Introduce Adaptive Touch Feature to Boost Touch Sensitivity: Report

Google is said to be working on an adaptive touch feature for Pixel phones and its reference was allegedly spotted on Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 last month. This advanced feature would make the screen adjust its touch sensitivity based on environmental conditions and the activities of users. Now, a new report states that the adaptive touch mode will be available in the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro models. Google has already implemented a screen protector detector feature on the Pixel 8 series last year.

Android Authority reports that the latest Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2 update includes code that link this adaptive touch feature to the 2024 flagship Pixel lineup. The update reportedly labels “adaptive touch” as a “P24” feature. Going by Google’s previous release patterns, the shorthand “P2X” internally refer to their Pixel phones for a particular year.

Based on this, the report claims that the adaptive touch feature would debut on the 2024 Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro smartphones. Google might also bring the feature to previously released Pixel models at a later stage, possibly as part of a Pixel feature drop.

Evidence of adaptive touch was initially spotted in the Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 release last month. This feature could enable the phone to automatically adjust the screen touch sensitivity of the Pixel smartphone based on the user’s environmental conditions like rain or cold, screen protector and activities like swimming. Once this feature goes live, an adaptive touch toggle is anticipated to be added to the Settings app under Display > Touch Sensitivity.

As mentioned, Google has already added a screen protector detector on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro to increase touch input and touch sensitivity. This functionality alerts users when a screen protector is put on or taken off, reminding them to activate or disable screen protector mode accordingly.

Google Phone Spotted on Geekbench; Tipped to be Google Pixel 9 Series Model With Tensor G4 SoC

Google Pixel 9 series is expected to launch as the successor to the Pixel 8 lineup, which launched in October 2023 with a base Pixel 8 and a Pixel 8 Pro model. The purported series is expected to launch with three new models, including a vanilla and a Pro model. The third model has not yet been confirmed but may have been spotted online. A new Google handset recently surfaced on a benchmarking website, and it is expected to be the purported third Pixel 9 model.

A MySmartPrice report spotted a smartphone named Google Tokay on the Geekbench 5 database. As per the listing, the handset scored 1082 points on the single-core test and 3121 points on the multi-core test. However, the report also adds that since the scores are significantly lower than those of the Pixel 8 models, the legitimacy of these test results should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The listing shows the Google Tokay model with an octa-core chipset. Four cores seemed to have clocked at 1.95GHz, three at 2.60GHz, and one at 3.10GHz. The report suggests it could be the Tensor G4 chipset. It is also seen with a Mali G715 GPU and 8GB of RAM. The phone is also seen with an Android 14 OS.

The upcoming Google Pixel lineup is tipped to get a base Pixel 9 model codenamed ‘komodo’ and a Pixel 9 Pro model codenamed ‘caiman.’ A third model is also rumoured, but little is known about it. The report suggests that this could be the third Pixel 9 series model.

Previously, the Google Pixel 9 leaked images, and Pixel 9 Pro renders surfaced online. They are seen with flat sides, unlike the preceding model and similar to the design of the iPhone 15 series. The models appear with a more compact camera island with a triple rear camera unit.

Google Pixel 9 Leaked Images Suggest iPhone 15-Like Flat Edges, Triple Rear Cameras

Google Pixel 8 is still new in the market, but early renders of the Pixel 9 have already started emerging on the Web, giving us a look at what the company’s next flagship smartphone could look like. The renders show the handset in a blue shade and suggest three cameras on the rear. This would be a significant update for the vanilla model. It looks like Google may have redesigned the rear camera module. The images indicate flat edges on the Pixel 9, similar to what we saw on the Pixel 9 Pro. It also has a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera on the display.

After posting CAD-based renders of the Google Pixel 9 Pro, tipster Steve H.McFly (@OnLeaks), has leaked renders and specifications of the Google Pixel 9 in association with 91Mobiles. The renders suggest a compact design for the handset with flattened sides, resembling the latest iPhone 15 series. The phone appears to get a redesigned rear camera module housing three sensors and an LED flash. This would be a huge upgrade for the vanilla Pixel as the previous Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel 8 only got dual rear cameras.

Google Pixel 9 Lineup Tipped to Launch With Qi2 Wireless Charging Support Available on iPhone 15 Series

The Qi2 (pronounced ‘Chi Two’) charging standard was announced earlier this year by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). It succeeds the Qi wireless charging standard, is similar to Apple’s MagSafe technology, which debuted with the iPhone 12 and makes use of a comparable coil for wireless charging and magnet systems. The WPC claimed that the goal is to develop a single, integrated system that is expected to function with both iOS and Android devices. It, however, includes a new feature known as the Magnetic Power Profile, which guarantees that phones and other devices are positioned precisely for optimal charging efficiency and speed. It is also expected to ensure brand compatibility for certified devices.

The first Qi2 productions are reportedly “completing” certification testing, according to WPC. This indicates that the first Qi2 charging devices, which are expected to serve as the formal launch of the technology, will be available very soon. Anker, Belkin, and other accessories brands will be among the first to launch Qi2 charging technology products. The WPC states that any items that adopt the new Qi v2.0 Extended Power Profile (EPP) but do not adopt magnets will not display the new Qi2 emblem, therefore the inclusion of magnets will also be the most noticeable change for consumers.
