EA Sports F1 24 Sets May 31 Release Date, Gameplay Features Revealed in New Trailer

Electronic Arts has revealed more details about its upcoming Formula 1 racing sim, EA Sports F1 24, with a new trailer. F1 24, first announced in February, will arrive earlier than previous games in the series on May 31 across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. EA detailed the features coming to the game and confirmed that players will be able to compete as a driver of their choice from the 2024 F1 season in the Career mode for the first time.

F1 24 brings a new Dynamic Handling system that promises a more realistic driving feel of an F1 car. There are upgrades all around, with new suspension kinematics, tyre models, advanced aerodynamic simulation, and new engine and car setup options. “All driving aspects are improved with cornering, rolling resistance, brake pressure, ambient track temperature, and variable conditions enabling drivers to receive immediate feedback to maximise their on-track performance,” EA said.

EA’s upcoming racing sim is focussing on authenticity, with improvements to existing circuits to bring them closer to real-world counterparts. Off the track, F1 24 will also feature a new broadcast presentation package, cutscenes and actual driver audio samples from F1 broadcasts for a more immersive experience.

The Career mode has also been overhauled, EA said. In addition to racing as a player-created custom driver, players can also race as real-life F1 drivers from the 2024 season, or even as iconic past F1 drivers. The Career mode will also include new features like race-day tasks and Contract Targets that help players build a reputation, long-term goals, two-player Career and more.

“Our biggest Career innovation since 2016 delivers more of what our players want with greater variety away from the track,” Lee Mather, Senior Creative Director at Codemasters, said. “Alongside new handling and Career innovations, updated circuits, new audio, and a refreshed broadcast presentation give players the feeling of being closer to the grid.” he added.

EA Sports F1 24 will be available in a Standard Edition and a digital-only Champions Edition, which grants access to a selection of liveries, two Icons — James Hunt and Juan Pablo Montoya — in Career mode, in-game currency, F1 World Bumper Pack, VIP Podium Pass and three days of early access, starting May 28. F1 24 releases on May 31, with pre-orders for the game live on all platforms.

Formula E Gen3 Race Car Breaks Indoor Land Speed World Record

Formula E has broken the indoor land speed world record during a recent duel race taking place ahead of the London E-Prix 2023, the final race of the 2022-23 Formula E season. The successful record attempt took place at the ExCel arena in London, with NEOM McLaren driver Jake Hughes achieving a speed of 218.71km/h on a 346m straight stretch of the circuit. The feat was achieved in the Formula E Gen3 car, which is currently in use in the 2022-23 season, albeit in an ‘unlocked’ ‘GENBETA’ variant that is capable of better performance.

The fact that the top speed was achieved in such a short section of the track is notable in showcasing both the sheer acceleration and power of the GENBETA Formula E cars, which will eventually lead to the next generation of Formula E race-spec cars. The current race-spec Gen3 Formula E car is capable of a top speed of 322km/h, with a rated maximum power of 350kW, limited to 300 kW during racing. The ‘unlocked’ variant for the record attempt had an increased power output of 400kW, delivering all-wheel drive for more power.

The record attempt took place in the form of a ‘duel’ between NEOM McLaren’s Jake Hughes and Mahindra Racing’s Lucas di Grassi, with both drivers easily breaking the previous indoor land speed record of 165.2km/h. After three practice runs each, both drivers took off on measured official runs, where Hughes came out on top with a speed of 218.71km/h, which was the highest among all runs by both drivers including the practice runs.

The 2023 Formula E championship comes to an end on July 30 with the London E-Prix, with British driver Jake Dennis of the Avalanche Andretti Formula E team leading the championship standings. Notably, this season also saw the inclusion of the Hyderabad ePrix, the first race in the Formula E championship to be held in India, which was won by French race car driver Jean Eric-Vergne.

Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2023: Timings in India, How to Watch

Formula 1 returns for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the 11th round of the 2023 F1 Championship, after a gap of two weeks from the British Grand Prix. The race weekend for F1 starts on Friday, July 21, and goes on till Sunday, July 23. This is a standard race weekend for F1 with no sprint race on the schedule, and race sessions including three practice sessions, qualifying, and the main race that will take place on Sunday evening.

Max Verstappen continues his dominant streak to extend his lead in the championship standings, while his Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez is holding on to second place for the time being. Notably, Lando Norris came in second to secure his first podium finish of the 2023 season at the previous round at Silverstone while his teammate Oscar Piastri finished fourth, suggesting that a resurgent McLaren could be a real contender for podium places during the rest of the season.

There are support series races for F2, F3, and Porsche Supercup taking place during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Indian F2 drivers Jehan Daruvala and Kush Maini have not been able to maintain their early form, dropping down the standings in the last few races. Maini, in his rookie F2 season, has had a spate of bad luck in the races, despite strong performances in qualifying.

Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2023: What to expect

Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing winning the 2023 championship is looking more and more likely with each passing race and the continued show of dominance. While many might argue that this is boring for the sport, it’s hard to take away from the show of skill; Verstappen may have the fastest car, but is also a capable driver who makes few mistakes, while Red Bull Racing itself handles matters of reliability and strategy arguably better than the competition.

Looking past the championship leader, the race behind is quite interesting, particularly with McLaren showing strong signs of resurgence on the back of the team’s first podium finish of 2023. Lando Norris put on an impressive show to bring his McLaren in for a second-place finish at the British Grand Prix, while his teammate Oscar Piastri finished fourth. Although McLaren is currently at fifth place in the Constructors championship, the team could challenge Mercedes, Aston Martin, and Ferrari for the higher and more lucrative championship spots.

Lewis Hamilton finished third at Silverstone, while Aston Martin and Ferrari struggled to get past the mid-field. While Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez has managed to hold on to his second spot in the standings for now, his results will be worrying both him and Red Bull Racing. Additionally, fan favourite and the original star of Netflix’s Drive to Survive series Daniel Ricciardo makes his return to F1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, driving for Scuderia Alpha Tauri, having replaced rookie driver Nyck de Vries for the seat, for the rest of the 2023 season.

Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023: Timings in India, How to Watch

Formula 1 returns after a four-week break for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the fourth round of the 2023 F1 Championship. The race weekend kicks off on Friday, April 28, and goes on till Sunday, April 30, with F1 and F2 sessions and races scheduled to take place across the weekend. Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen continued to dominate in the third round in Australia at the beginning of April. However, the competition did make big positive strides, particularly former champions Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, who came in second and third respectively.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023 will also see the resumption of the F2 championship, with sessions taking place alongside F1 action at the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan. Indian driver Kush Maini, in his rookie F2 season with Campos Racing, secured his first podium finish in the sprint race in Australia. Meanwhile, the more experienced Jehan Daruvala will hope to build on the momentum after test-driving the Mahindra Racing Formula E car in Berlin.

Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023: What to expect

Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen have had a dominant start to the 2023 season, leading both championship standings going into the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez managed to finish fifth in the Australian Grand Prix despite starting from the back of the grid, but this did create room for former world champions Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso to narrow the gap for second place thanks to podium finishes.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes place at the Baku City Circuit, a street circuit characterised by narrow track sections and tight corners. This also means that racing incidents and accidents are likely to result in a full safety car or even a red flag, making this a tricky and potentially extended race. Sergio Perez, known for his performances at street circuits – and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in particular – will hope to use this to his advantage.

There’s still a long way to go in the season, leaving plenty of room for the competition to catch up. Ferrari has had a disastrous start to the season and will hope to make up ground going into the next few rounds, while Mercedes and Aston Martin continue to perform well and challenge Red Bull Racing’s dominance. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will also see the introduction of the new sprint race format, where Friday qualifying sets the grid for the main race on Sunday, while a shorter ‘Sprint Shootout’ qualifying session sets the grid for the sprint race.

Michael Schumacher’s Family Planning Legal Action Against German Magazine Over AI-Generated Interview

Michael Schumacher‘s family are planning legal action against a German weekly magazine over an ‘interview’ with the seven times Formula One champion that was generated by artificial intelligence.

A spokesperson for the Schumacher family, asked by Reuters for a comment on Wednesday, pointed to published reports of legal action.

The Ferrari great has not been seen in public since he suffered a serious brain injury in a skiing accident on a family holiday in the French Alps in December 2013.

The family has guarded his privacy since, with access limited to those closest to him and little information given about his condition.

The latest edition of Die Aktuelle ran a front cover with a picture of a smiling Schumacher and the headline promising ‘Michael Schumacher, the first interview’.

The strapline added: “it sounded deceptively real”.

Inside, it emerged that the supposed quotes had been produced by AI.

“We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable, and to simply make him feel our family, our bond,” Corinna Schumacher said in a 2021 Netflix documentary.

“We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives.

“‘Private is private’, as he always said. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael.”

Schumacher’s son Mick is currently the Mercedes reserve driver in Formula One, after losing his seat at Haas at the end of last season.

Ahead of Red Bull Showrun on March 12, Red Bull India Showcases Championship-Winning F1 Car

Ahead of the Red Bull Showrun event in Mumbai, Red Bull India showcased the Red Bull RB7 Formula 1 car at an event that demonstrated the assembly and engine specifics of the racing car. As part of the event, Red Bull India fired up the engine of the car, and Red Bull Racing mechanics assembled parts of the car, giving spectators a closer look at the Formula 1 race car from 2011, including the 2.4L Renault engine, the drivers cockpit, and the suspension assembly.

While the car was parked in a garage and was not run during the event, mechanics from the Red Bull Racing team were on hand to demonstrate the engine being turned on and revved. After this, the mechanics assembled parts of the RB7 live, including the engine cover, wheels and tyres, and other components. Former F1 driver David Coulthard will be driving the Red Bull RB7 in Mumbai as part of the Red Bull Showrun promotional event on March 12.

The Red Bull RB7 was Red Bull Racing’s championship-winning F1 car for 2011, and won both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ championships that year, driven by World Champion Sebastian Vettel and veteran driver Mark Webber. The F1 car is powered by a 2.4L mid-mounted, naturally-aspirated Renault V8 engine, generating over 750 horsepower at 18,000rpm.

The race car competed in 19 races across the 2011 season with both drivers, winning 12 races and 27 podiums in total, and was the dominant car and team of the season. Formula 1 enacted big changes later in 2014, signalling the start of what is known as the turbo-hybrid era for engines in Formula 1.

Red Bull Racing was the dominant team in F1 in 2022, securing both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles. The team made a strong start to the year 2023 with Max Verstappen securing the win and Sergio Perez coming in 2nd in the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix. Formula 1 can be watched on the F1 TV app with the Pro subscription in India, which also gives access to F2, F3, and Porsche Supercup live streaming.

Formula One Submits New Trademark Filings Related to NFT and Crypto Transactions

Racing giant Formula One has announced that it has filed eight trademarks for its ‘F1′ abbreviation across several sectors of the crypto industry. The move means the popular car racing body is looking to gather a strong foot across the Web3 ecosystem. According to Washington DC-based licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, the car racing competition body filed eight trademark applications on October 5 that include cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFT), crypto markets, retail stores for virtual goods, cryptocurrency trading and mining, and blockchain-based financial transactions.

As per the filing, Formula One intends to provide software for use with cryptocurrencies, digital collectibles, and non-fungible tokens.

Additionally, this software will handle cryptocurrency trading and payment activities. Retail store services for virtual commodities are the subject of another filing.

Formula One also plans to establish an online marketplace for cryptocurrency buyers and sellers. It aims to use blockchain technology to simplify financial transactions.

The racing body might also choose to provide entertainment services through the use of virtual products like non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in online virtual worlds and mixed-reality settings. One of the trademark files mentions cryptocurrency-related intellectual property licensing services.

That said, crypto-linked forays aren’t new to Formula 1. In late August, F1 also filed NFT-related trademarks for the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix event, which is slated to take place in November 2023.

Last June, British motor racing team McLaren announced partnership with Tezos, one of the most prominent blockchain projects while this February, Shiba Inu rival Floki Inu joined the list of cryptocurrencies forming motor racing collaborations by inking a deal with Alfa Romeo F1. In April, leading cryptocurrency FTX joined forces with F1 team Mercedes-AMG Petronas.

However, crypto regulators are not particularly fond of such deals. In April, some Formula 1 teams were asked by such regulators to ditch cryptocurrency-related branding in order to comply with local advertising rules during the French Grand Prix.
