Ron Burgundy roasts Tom Brady with multiple Eli Manning jabs

Retired NFL legend Tom Brady took the hot seat on Sunday night as part of GROAT, The Greatest Roast Of All Time, which streamed on Netflix Live.

The event, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, featured many accomplished roasters such as Roastmaster General Jeff Ross, Tom Segura, Nikki Glaser, Andrew Schulz, Bert Kreischer, and more.

Will Ferrell also made an appearance, embodying his famous character creation, Ron Burgundy.

Burgundy didn’t need a teleprompter aid this time around, shredding Brady by using one of his sorest spots: Retired New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

“Underneath that dead robot of a quarterback, there’s a scared little boy,” Burgundy said. “Anyone notice? You don’t see Eli Manning here tonight, do you? No. That’s because he’s afraid of Eli Manning. Eli Manning made Tom Brady his (expletive). He made him his (expletive)!”

But Burgundy didn’t stop there. He then led the crowd in a chant for Brady.

“Eli. Manning. Made. Tom. Brady. His. (Expletive),” Burgundy shouted, urging those in attendance to chant along. “One, two, three… Eli. Manning. Made. Tom. Brady. His. (Expletive)!”

Before signing off, Burgundy had one closing thought for Brady.

“You won’t be forgotten. You’ll always be remembered as Eli Manning’s (expletive),” he said.

Although Brady and Manning have become friends over the years, the future Pro Football Hall of Famer has never shied away from the pain suffered in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.

Brady has acknowledged that those two Super Bowl losses still haunt him and that he’d even be willing to trade some of his other championship rings if he could go back in time and win Super Bowl XLII.

Chad Powers, definitely not Eli Manning, added to Madden Ultimate Team

Chad Powers, the fictional character/alter-ego created by former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, is being added to the Madden Ultimate Team on the iconic EA Sports game.

Manning created the character a few years back as a gag for his and his brother Peyton’s Omaha Productions.

Manning donned a disguise and pretended to be a walk-on hopeful for the Penn State football program.

The Chad Powers story is headed to Hulu with Glen Powell as Powers, who is described as “a disgraced college quarterback named Russ Holliday (who) disguises himself as Chad Powers and walks onto a struggling southern football team to revive his football career.”

Tom Coughlin calls Eli Manning one of the best big-game QBs ever

The New York Giants are suffering an identity crisis. As the 2024 NFL draft nears, they are waffling over whether they still believe Daniel Jones is their future at quarterback or if they have to draft a new one next weekend.

In short, they are looking for the next Eli Manning.

Manning, who the team traded for on draft day in 2004, led the franchise to some of its greatest moments while never missing a game due to injury and comporting himself with class and dignity.

Jones has shown some of Eli’s traits but there’s no mistaking him for the future Pro Football Hall of Famer. Jones is often injured and has struggled in key games over his five-year career in New York.

Eli was, for intents and purposes, the Giants’ unicorn and goat all at the same time.

“He’s the greatest big-game quarterback I’ve ever been around or even watched,” retired Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told Newsday. “You look at his eyes on game day and it’s like sending laser beams from his eyes. He was so into what he’s doing.”

The Giants miss that. Sure, there were days when Eli looked as if he hadn’t played a down in his life, but when the stakes were high, he rose to the occasion.

One thing the Giants could always rely on was Eli’s availability. He started 210 consecutive games for the Giants from 2004 through 2017.

“I think one thing people don’t realize is what it meant, what a magnificent feeling it was, to know as a coach that he was going to be there every Sunday,” Coughlin added.

“Every Sunday, he lined up and played. He played with a separated shoulder, but he played. And it was important to him that he did. But from the standpoint of coaching, there was nothing he couldn’t do and nothing you couldn’t ask him to do. You could do whatever you wanted to do because he was going to grasp the concepts and he was going to do it to the best of his ability. And that was a tremendous [comfort] for all those years because he lined up and played.”

Giant fans had gotten spoiled with Eli. Jones, although appearing to be a perfect fit as Manning’s heir apparent, hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Next Thursday night at the NFL draft in Detroit, general manager Joe Schoen could walk away with the team’s next franchise quarterback, or he could choose to wait and take a player the Giants can develop.

Either way, there will always be only one Eli. Coughlin tells the story of how Eli stopped to get a sandwich before his pro day and almost missed the event.

“It’s the best passing performance at a Pro Day that I’d ever seen,” Coughlin said. “He really lit it up, and this was with five [receivers] who he’d been throwing with, but he didn’t know them. He didn’t play with them. It was an amazing experience.”

Just another day in the charmed life of Eli Manning.

Eli Manning playfully taunts Patrick Mahomes with Gotham FC ring

Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes have more in common than just football.

Both have business ventures that extend to a variety of industries, and both have a vested interest in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Mahomes’ wife is a former soccer player and the two share an investment stake in both Sporting KC (MLS) and the Kansas City Current (MWSL). The Current joined the NWSL in 2022 as an expansion team post-pandemic and the Mahomes’ joined the ownership group in 2023.

Manning has an ownership stake in Gotham FC, formerly Sky Blue FC, of the NWSL, something he began in 2022. Gotham FC has been around for some time under alternate names and was a founding member of the NWSL in 2013.

Finally, in November 2023, Gotham FC won its first NWSL Championship.

Gotham FC’s 20424 home opener is April 14 against the Current, so Eli couldn’t resist playing taunting Mahomes ahead of the opener.

“Hey, Mahomes. You may have one more of these than me, but do you have one of these? I don’t think so,” Manning said. “See you at the home opener April 14th. Let’s go, Gotham!”

Sunday’s home opener will be fun to watch, and the banter between Manning and Mahomes will be in jest, both wanting nothing more than to promote and support the teams they own.

Giants’ Brian Daboll one of best offensive minds in NFL

The New York Giants could be looking at a quarterback with the sixth overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft.

If North Carolina’s Drake Maye is still on the board when the Giants pick, they could reel him in. He would like that as his interactions with Big Blue thus far have all been positive.

“It was good in there. Meeting with coach (Brian) Daboll, big fan of him, offensive mind, one of the best,” Maye told reporters at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this weekend.

“So, it’s just getting in there, getting to know those guys, Mr. Schoen. So, it was good in there.”

Maye also has a relationship with former Giants quarterback Eli Manning, whom he also gave glowing praise to.

“Eli, big fan. I think Eli would probably say he’s probably seen me too much, I’ve been following him around. It was always on Zooms,” Maye said. “I think the biggest thing is being a sponge, soaking it all in.

“I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t know it all just being up there with Eli, and like I said, David Moore, I’ve trained with him down there in Alabama; he was his backup at Ole Miss. So, just kind of the small world of connections and I’m just trying to soak it all up.”

Maye was asked if the future Pro Football Hall of Famer gave him any advice.

“Yeah, just be myself,” he said. “Don’t be somebody I’m not, and at the end of the day, don’t give the NFL too much spotlight or credit. You know, just going out there playing ball.”

Solid advice from one who knows.

Chad Powers, an Eli Manning creation, being turned into Hulu TV show

Retired New York Giants legend Eli Manning playfully created Chad Powers, an unlikely quarterback “tryout” for Penn State University, back in 2022 as part of his Eli’s Places series.

Unsurprisingly, Manning’s transformation went over well and became a hilarious viral sensation.

Almost immediately after Powers burst onto the scene, Omaha Productions, the Peyton Manning-owned company that helped create Powers, was “flooded” with requests to create more content. One of the ideas pitched was to create a Ted Lasso-like show.

As it turns out, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Variety reports that streaming service Hulu has ordered a half-hour Chad Powers comedy series starring Glen Powell.

Hulu has ordered the half-hour comedy series “Chad Powers” from Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, Variety has learned.

Powell will star in the series in addition to co-creating and co-writing the pilot with Waldron, with both serving as executive producers. The show is based on the Chad Powers character created by Eli Manning for his EPSN+ docuseries “Eli’s Places.” Manning wanted to learn more about the walk-on process for college football, so he donned a wig and prosthetic makeup so he could go undercover during the Penn State football tryouts.

The official description for the series states, “When bad behavior nukes hotshot QB Russ Holliday’s (Powell) college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.”

Manning will not reprise his role as Powers (or in this case, Holliday) but is 100 percent behind the series.

“The love for Chad Powers has surprised me in spectacular ways,” said Manning. “I played 16 years in the NFL, but now when I’m in a restaurant or walking through an airport, it’s not uncommon for fans to scream, ‘Hey Chad!’ I’m so excited to team up with my friends Glen Powell, Michael Waldron and Omaha Productions to continue to tell the Chad Powers story and see what he does next.”

An estimated release date has not yet been revealed.

The final year of the Eli Manning Hall of Fame debate has arrived

With the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024 announced this week, we can now focus on the long-standing debate that is about to come to a conclusion next year at this time.

That debate is whether or not former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is worthy of being a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Manning, who retired after the 2019 season, will be eligible for induction into Canton beginning next year.

Giant fans already know that Manning belongs, as do the fans of the New England Patriots — the team Manning defeated twice in the Super Bowl.

But there are fans of other teams, especially those of the rival Philadelphia Eagles, who continue to contest Manning’s candidacy out of sheer jealousy, although they have finally won a Super Bowl in recent years. Others believe he’s a ‘nepo baby’ who skated on his family name.

But the numbers do not lie. Manning had a long and successful career. There are many who have busts in Canton who have achieved a lot less.

Eli will be among an impressive group of newcomers who will also be in their first year of eligibility, but few have his resume.

That aside, Manning’s induction in Year 1 is far from a slam dunk. Tom Rock, the veteran Giants columnist from Newsday, is preparing Giant fans for a possible snub.

While Manning certainly will be the most decorated and highest-profile quarterback on the ballot the committee considers throughout the coming months, he’s not going to be the slam dunk candidate some might consider him to be.

The Hall hasn’t enshrined a quarterback since Peyton Manning in 2021. That means fellow two-time Super Bowl champ Jim Plunkett along with others such as Joe Theismann, Ken Anderson, Earl Morrall and even Phil Simms have been waiting patiently on the fringes of Canton.

Eli Manning was the quarterback for a series of Hall of Fame-worthy moments, the kind of plays that will get rewound and replayed every year around this time as long as football exists, but his overall career numbers are far less impressive.

All true. Many will also point to Eli’s lukewarm record as a starting quarterback (117-117) and the fact that he was never named to the first or second All-Pro Team, which for a player who played as long as Manning, is a conspicuous hole that could cause some voters pause.

None of that may matter. Manning’s on-field exploits along with his off-the-field actions could simply add up to a ‘yes’ for many.

Eli has been a model citizen, working tirelessly for multiple charities, and was named the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2016.

After all, why would so many companies choose Eli to be their spokesman if he wasn’t a great player and a great person?

He’s worthy.

Giants great Eli Manning preparing Drake Maye for 2024 NFL draft

The New York Giants may have no shot at drafting North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye in April’s NFL draft but that is not preventing them from keeping a close eye on the future NFL star.

Former Giant great and holder of all pertinent franchise quarterback records Eli Manning has been involved in Maye’s pre-draft experience.

“I’ve been working with Eli throughout the process, getting on Zooms and talking football with him,” Maye told the New York Post’s Mark Cannizzaro.

“I’m working out in Mobile, Alabama, and his backup quarterback in college was Dave Morris, and he’s training me for the draft. Pretty small world. And, I was at the Manning Camp this summer, so I got to see Eli and Peyton.”

Maye is in Las Vegas this week — as are the Mannings — and participated in an LIV Golf event where he played alongside legendary golfer Phil Mickelson and Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis.

Maye is expected to be selected as high as second overall in this year’s draft. The Giants hold the sixth pick and would have to put together a lucrative package to trade up to get him.

That’s unlikely to happen, though, as the team seems to be content with giving Daniel Jones one last chance to prove his worthiness as an NFL starter.

Giants legend Eli Manning stars in new Toyota commercial

New York Giants legend and two-time Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning, is loyal to his brands. That was true throughout his career and it remains true in retirement.

Once Manning signs an endorsement deal, he sticks to those products. That’s why he’s driven a Toyota for decades and why he will continue to.

It’s also why Toyota called on Manning to star in their latest commercial featuring the 2024 Toyota Tundra 1794 edition.

Why is it called the 1794 edition? Manning had that same question.

Manning is never afraid to poke a little fun at himself and that’s what makes his sense of humor world-class.
