Eli Manning, Tom Coughlin team up for ‘Show Us Your Team’ campaign

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, which highlights those affected who are 19 years of age or under. It also casts a spotlight on their families and the incredible toll cancer takes on everyone involved.

That’s why retired New York Giants legends, Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin, are teaming up once again — one on behalf of the Jay Fund Foundation and the other on behalf of Tackle Kids Cancer.

The future Pro Football Hall of Famers have begun the “Show Us Your Team” campaign, urging those everywhere to take a selfie with those they lean on and post it with the hashtag, #ShowUsYourTeam.

“So many people feel alone in their journey. This is why the work we are doing together is so critical and complements each other so well. Tackle Kids Cancer is focused on raising money to help fund essential life-saving research and cures for pediatric cancer, and the Jay Fund is right by their side focusing on the here and now, helping families through the emotional rollercoaster and paying their household expenses so they can focus on what’s important,” the pair wrote in an essay for People.com.

Manning and Coughlin also appeared on ABC News Live to discuss the Show Us Your Team campaign, as well as the Jay Fund Foundation and Tackle Kids Cancer.

Be sure to join these Giants legends by snapping a selfie with someone who helps you through the tough stuff and then post it on social media with the hashtag, #ShowUsYourTeam.

New York Giants’ Daniel Jones turned down Netflix’s ‘Quarterback’

Netflix debuted a brand new docuseries earlier this year, “Quarterback,” which followed three NFL quarterbacks for the entire season.

The NFL partnered with Netflix for the development of the series, giving them unprecedented access, while NFL Films, 2PM Productions, and Omaha Productions produced the series.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota were the focal points of the show. Netflix was also granted additional access to Mahomes away from the field.

The show was a hit among fans and players across the league alike.

Following its wild success, “Quarterback” was renewed for Season 2 but New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, despite being approached, will not be among those appearing. He rejected the offer.

“I’m not,” Jones told WFAN’s Boomer & Gio when asked if he’d appear in Season 2. “I thought it was a great show. I really enjoyed watching it and seeing those three guys — kind of their process and how they prepare. Each of them a little bit different. I thought it was a great show.

“I’m not doing it,” Jones continued. “Yeah, I’ve been asked. Like I said, I think it was a great show and they did a great job with it.”

Jones was pressed on his rejection and asked if the Giants organization had any influence on his decision, but the 26-year-old insisted it was his own personal choice.

Although Jones is modest and comes across as shy, he’s much like Eli Manning was before him. He doesn’t necessarily enjoy the spotlight, he doesn’t have an overly rah-rah personality and he’s focused more strongly on building private friendships with his teammates away from the cameras.

Of course, once Manning retired that all went out the window. He became a media star and allowed his personality to shine for the world to see. Only time will tell if DJ follows that same path but that’s still far down the line.

New York Giants among the NFL’s best in quarterback stability rankings

The New York Giants have been the NFL’s fourth-best team in quarterback turnover rankings since 2013, notes Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports.

At the very bottom, most of the teams have been buoyed by longtime franchise QBs, like Aaron Rodgers (Packers), Matthew Stafford (Lions), Eli Manning (Giants), Derek Carr (Raiders) and Philip Rivers (Chargers).

The Giants have had only three starting quarterbacks since the start of the 2013 season which was tied for fourth lowest. To qualify for this list a quarterback had to start at least four games in a season for a team.

For the majority of this time, Big Blue had two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning calling the shots under center.

Manning is known for being an iron man, having only missed one start (since assuming the starting role) due to a surprise move to start Geno Smith for a game. While the post-2012 era was not the most prominent years of Manning’s career he did have one playoff trip and paved the way for the new era with Daniel Jones.

Jones is coming back to East Rutherford after signing a massive four-year extension with New York, so it looks like these two will be the faces of the franchise for at least a decade-long period.

The only other quarterback that appeared in at least four games during a season in this span was Mike Glennon, who started exactly four games in 2021 due to an injury to Jones.

Nevertheless, New York will be hoping that Jones can turn out similar to Manning in the sense of being a healthy, reliable quarterback that can bring some winning football back to MetLife Stadium.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is built for New York

Playing in New York is notoriously difficult. Whether you’re a shortstop for the New York Yankees, a goalie for the New York Rangers, or a quarterback for the New York Giants, the pressure is always on.

Some players can handle it. Others can not.

New York has chewed up and spit out All-Stars, MVPs, and Hall of Famers in the past — players who have achieved the highest level of success in their sport but couldn’t overcome the bright lights of The Big Apple.

It takes a special mindset to succeed in New York and to juggle the expectations.

So far throughout his young career, Daniel Jones, like his predecessor, has handled that spotlight as well as could be expected. And now entering his fifth season, Eli Manning anticipates that to continue for DJ.

“Daniel has handled it so well. It’s hard. It’s hard in New York,” Manning told NFL Network. “Every game you could come in and throw four touchdowns and they’ll say you’re the greatest player and you’re the MVP. But the next week, you throw two interceptions and they’re saying you’re a bust and a big mistake.

“You’ve got to deal with that and you’ve got to handle that. But I think that he’s handled it so well these four years.”

Jones not only handled that pressure in 2022, but he excelled in spite of it. He had his best season as a pro, leading the Giants to a 9-7-1 regular season finish, their first year above .500 since 2016, and their first playoff victory in a decade.

Having tasted the postseason, Jones turned it up a notch this offseason and has worked tirelessly. Because of that dedication, Manning expects even better things for DJ moving forward.

“Each year he’s made improvements. He’s seen things he needs to work on and he’s fixed them,” Manning said. “He comes out last year and plays his best, makes it to playoffs, and wins a playoff game. Played phenomenal in that playoff game — maybe his best game of the whole season. He can rise to the occasion, he can win the big games.

“I think we’ll continue to see him grow and take more of that leadership role. I think he’s more comfortable in that position — just how to deal with New York. He knows he can rise to the occasion. He’s a tough kid so I think he’ll just continue to get better and better.”

With a four-year, $160 million deal now in tow, the pressure on Jones will be greater than ever. Giants fans are thirsty for more and they hope Manning is spot-on when it comes to DJ.

Giants great Eli Manning dismisses criticism of nephew Arch Manning

Arch Manning, the latest generation of the Manning quarterback legacy, is beginning his college career at Texas this summer.

The nephew of Hall of Famer, Peyton, and two-time Super Bowl MVP, Eli, and grandson of Archie, is drawing criticism after a rough outing in the Longhorns’ spring game (5-of-13 for 30 yards).

Uncle Eli isn’t too worried, though. He knows it’s all part of the journey.

“For me, I don’t remember many of my spring games,” the New York Giants legend said, via Sports Illustrated. “I don’t remember many of my preseason games. Spring games, you can’t look too much into it.

“I know, for him, it’s about getting in there. Getting into practices, getting in the weight room, learning the playbook. He was still a senior in high school when he went through that spring game. He’s got a lot to learn, but every rep is important, every practice is important and he’ll just continue to get better and more comfortable.”

Arch is the son of the eldest Manning brother, Cooper, and starred at the same high school as his father and uncles, New Orleans’ Isidore Newman.

The hotly-pursued 18-year-old chose Texas over a score of other top programs including LSU, Georgia, Clemson, and Alabama.

Fan in Gumby suit drinks bear through eye on MNF

The “Manningcast” always features a slate of guests, but this unscripted, beer-drinking cameo had the brothers cracking up.

Peyton and Eli Manning’s ESPN2 alternative to “Monday Night Football” continues to produce laughs for fans. As the show came back from break during the Rams-Packers game, the cameras zoomed in on a spectator at Lambeau Field dressed in a Gumby costume.

What was already a funny cameo turned into a hilarious show for the Manning’s as Gumby began to drink a beer through the costume’s eye.

Eli added some comedy to the spectacle, providing some expert analysis to the bizarre scene.

“Welcome back to Lambeau, we got Gumby in the house drinking a beer through his eye,” he said. “I’ve never seen that technique but you gotta do what you gotta do.”

Peyton couldn’t stop laughing as his brother commented on the costumed character’s antics.

The Packers lead the Rams 10-6 at halftime and with both team out of the NFC playoff race a little added levity is never a bad thing, dammit.
