Jay Leno treated inside hyperbaric chamber after suffering third-degree burns

Jay Leno has been treated in a hyperbaric chamber and received skin grafts from donors after he suffered third-degree burns in a freak accident while working on a vintage car.

The 72-year-old actor allowed Inside Edition to film him lying inside the medical device in a blue hospital gown, with his left arm and right hand covered in bandages.

Dr. Peter Grossman, Leno’s physician, explained the importance of the hyperbaric chamber.

“It helps decrease swelling, it helps increase blood flow with good oxygenation and it helps decrease bacteria,” Grossman told Inside Edition.

The former “Tonight Show” host also suffered burns on his face and chest, according to the program.

“He’s had skin grafts that are not his own, meaning the skin we have from a skin bank or a donor, that’s what we do as a first stage,” Grossman said.

Leno, who was scheduled to undergo another surgical procedure this week, has been walking around, cracking jokes and sharing cookies at the Grossman Burn Center, the doctor said.

Jay Leno is seen in the hyperbaric chamber with bandages on his arms after receiving skin grafts.

The hyperbaric chamber decreases swelling, helps increase blood flow and decrease bacteria.

Dr. Peter Grossman described Leno’s injuries as “serious,” but that “his condition is good.”

The comedian faces a lengthy recovery but Grossman noted that “as I’m getting to know Jay, I don’t think it’s gonna be months. I think he’s the kind of guy who’s just gonna move forward.”

He added that the scars will “definitely be visible for the foreseeable future.

“We hope that in the future they will be minimal .Visible or maybe not at all,” he told Inside Edition.

In a press conference Wednesday, Grossman described Leno’s injuries as “serious,” but that “his condition is good.”

Leno has explained that he had been working on his 115-year-old car when a fuel leak and a simultaneous spark in the 1907 White Steam Car triggered an explosion.

He credited his friend Dave with saving him after he was set on fire, as he was standing nearby and immediately jumped on him to smother the flames.

Charge against woman who attacked California mother and 1-year-old dismissed

A California mother attacked in a parking lot with her child in her arms is voicing her outrage after a charge against the suspect was reportedly dismissed.

“I’m trying to figure out why she’s not being held responsible for hitting a 1-year-old child,” Clarissa Guevara told KTTV-TV on Wednesday after the charge was dropped against the female suspect, who was seen on video attacking Guevara in a Hemet, California, parking lot as she clutched her young child. “I’m trying my hardest to have my baby’s voice heard.”

Guevara says the incident, which happened six months ago and led to a misdemeanor child endangerment charge against the suspect, stemmed from a domestic issue that a former friend of hers was upset about.

On Monday, KTTV-TV reported that the charge against the woman was dropped by the Riverside County Superior Court due to lack of courtroom space.

The county has reportedly dismissed more than 200 criminal cases due to lack of space, citing a backlog from the coronavirus shutdown and a shortage of judges.

Guevara told KTTV-TV that she is still struggling to cope with the emotional toll of the attack, which was caught on surveillance video.

“That scream I heard that day, I would never forget that screaming,” Guevara told the outlet about the attack in Hemet, roughly 90 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

“She punched my daughter in the face,” Guevara added. “My 1-year-old daughter.”

The Riverside County Superior Court directed Fox News Digital to a news release in late October explaining the rationale and conditions that led to some cases being dismissed due to various issues including the coronavirus pandemic.

Seriously, can anyone name a well-run Democratic city?

As we draw closer to polling day, there is really only one question anyone needs to have in their head. Are things better or worse than when America last went to the polls?

The problem is that you can answer that differently state by state. A lot of people who fled California in the last couple of years, for instance, can say that their lives have improved by moving to Tennessee, Florida or Texas.

So let me narrow the question down a bit. Can anybody in any Democratic-run city honestly say that their lives — and city — have improved over the last couple of years?

That’s a slightly easier question. As New Yorkers go to the polls it is also a slightly devastating one to ask. Because it has a devastating answer.

I dare even the most die-hard, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat to say, “Oh, New York has never been better. In fact, it’s just getting better and better.” Does anyone really believe that? Is there a single person out there who can really say that with a straight face? As they survey the crime in our city, the homelessness, the waste and rats. And I’m not even talking about the incumbents of City Hall. Does anyone think that this great city has become greater in the last two years?

The stats in New York speak for themselves. Ignore the nightmare year of 2020, and just look at the increase in crime during the last year. Between July 2021 and July 2022 shooting incidents in New York increased by almost 14%. The number of murders increased by almost 35%.

Of course, most of us are lucky enough not to get shot. So it’s easy for some people to be lax in their judgments. But the same figures exist in almost every other area of crime. A 41% increase in grand larceny. A 37% increase in robberies. A 26% rise in burglaries. All just in the course of a year.

Though it’s not as if you need the statistics to tell you that. Walk almost anywhere in our city and you can see it for yourselves. There is the homelessness, the people shooting up in the street, the clearly insane people shouting around on the streets. Of course, it’s worse in the outer boroughs. But it is just as clear in the center of the city, too. A couple of weeks ago I was proudly showing some out-of-towners the delights of Midtown when we walked out of the building to find a homeless man shooting up in the street with a needle and then howling down the street as mothers and children hurried by.

Democrats pretend that this is a nationwide problem. But it isn’t. It’s a Democratic-run city problem. Occasionally Democrats like to play a nasty little game on this serious issue. They pretend, for instance, that crime stats like those to do with shootings are the same in red states and blue states. What they fail to note is that it is blue cities that are the problem. Even if they are in red states.

For instance, if you go down to Austin, Texas, you will find a city that is booming, for sure. But you will also find all of the same problems you find in New York. You will see all the same homelessness, the drug addiction, violence and lawlessness.

That is what is so strange about the experiment that Gavin Newsom and other Democrats have played on this country in recent years. It doesn’t matter whether it is San Francisco, New York, Austin or indeed the nation’s capital. Look at the state of Washington, DC, these days, with its homeless encampments greeting you from the moment you leave Union Station. You don’t have to wonder about the politics of the people who run this city. Of course, the Council of the District of Columbia is Democratic-majority. Because they have the same problems that every other Democratic city has.

Shootings in New York City have increased by almost 14% from July 2021 to July 2022.

By now you would have thought that people would be onto this. After all, everywhere they get into power the Democrats try the same tricks: bail and other criminal-justice “reforms,” attacks on the ability of police officers to do their jobs and much, much more. The results are there for everyone to see. Have the policies worked anywhere? No. But still the Democrats keep putting them in place wherever they can.

Indeed that is Newsom’s main achievement. He rolled out a set of policies that further wrecked San Francisco while he was mayor. As governor, he rolled out the same policies — with the same disastrous effects — across California. If he ever makes it to the White House, as he and much of his party hope he will, he’ll try to roll this out across the country.

So again, show me one place where these policies have worked? They’ve worked for the criminals. They’ve worked for the people who’ve never put anything into the system but spent a lifetime taking out. But have they worked for the rest of us? People who pay sky-high taxes and get ever fewer returns on that investment? Of course not. It´s something to think about when you go to the polls. Name just one place where it’s worked.

Tat’s on you, lady!

Yesterday, The Post reported the strange case of Melissa Sloan from Wales. Ms. Sloan has spent recent years tattooing every single inch of her body. In fact, there’s less available space on Sloan’s body than there is in Manhattan.

Now the 45-year-old is complaining that no one will employ her. The tattoos, many of them done at home, “prison-style,” by her boyfriend, cover her face. And the truth is that if you have a face covered in tattoos, you are likely to scare off the customers.

Now Sloan says that she can’t even get a job as a toilet cleaner. I feel sorry for her. Not just because she has made a mess of her body, but because she has made a mess of her life. And because, like so many people today, nobody close to her thought to stop her.

Man wearing Fireball whiskey costume arrested for drunken antics

He took his Halloween costume a little too seriously.

A California man who dressed up as a Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey bottle was arrested early Sunday for his drunken conduct, a report said.

Dominic Salazar, 31, was booked the day before Halloween while still in his costume for disorderly conduct domestic battery among other charges, according to California jail records reviewed by the Smoking Gun.

Dominic Salazar is seen in a Madera County booking photo dressed in a Fireball Whisky costume.
You can buy the costume through the company’s website.

Salazar is currently in Madera County lockup after failing to make his $55,000 bail, the site said. He is facing both felony and misdemeanor charges.

The whisky enthusiast smiled in his mugshot, wearing his costume, which retails for around $45.

The outfit can be bought directly from the Whiskey manufacturer, which said online that “Halloween is all about letting your wildest dreams come true, so this year, become a human-sized bottle of Fireball. You’re welcome. One size fits most, 100% polyester.”

The Madera County Sheriff did not immediately return the Post’s request for comment.

‘Superfly’ actor Kaalan Walker sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for rape charges

A Los Angeles-based rapper who acted in the 2018 movie “SuperFly” was sentenced Monday to 50 years to life in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting seven victims — including three minors.

Kaalan Walker, 27, was also ordered to register as a lifetime sex offender for the series of crimes dating back to 2013, according to City News Service.

The performer was convicted of three counts of forcible rape, two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, two counts of rape of an intoxication victim and one count of assault with intent to commit oral copulation by a Van Nuys jury on April 18.

Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Wallace said she believes Walker is “truly a predator” for his assaults on young women and teenagers between 2013 and 2018, according to City News Service.

Walker used Instagram and Twitter to find his victims — who were often aspiring models and actresses — and lure them to locations by saying he had booked them for photo shoots and music video productions that never happened.

Instead the rapper raped as well as assaulted the women and underage girls, prosecutors said.

“When they said ‘Stop,’ he didn’t care,” Deputy District Attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi told the jury of Walker during the trial in March, the news service reported.

Walker’s attorney said he didn’t force the women and girls and that they were seeking revenge against his client for the false promises he made of music shoots and opportunities to meet his famous and well-connected friends.

The lawyer, Andrew Flier, added that the rapper’s career has been ruined and that he has suffered “a living nightmare” due to the allegations he was later convicted of.

Walker — who also appeared in the 2017 film “Kings” starring Halle Berry and Daniel Craig — was arrested in September 2018 and released on bond. He was taken into custody again after he was found guilty.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signs bill restricting use of rap lyrics as evidence in criminal trials

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill to restrict prosecutors from using rap lyrics as evidence against criminal defendants in California.

Newsom signed on the dotted line of a new bill — the Decriminalizing Artistic Expression Act, also known as AB 2799 — on Friday, which advocates say will help protect artistic expression in hip-hop and rap.

The bill was approved by state lawmakers in August after mass backlash over the imprisonment of some big names in rap, including Young Thug, Gunna, and the late rapper Drakeo the Ruler.

Used as evidence against them were their song lyrics, as prosecutors alleged Young Thug formed a street gang and promoted it through his songs

A trial date is expected to take place on Jan. 9, 2023.

The case echoed that of late rapper Drakeo the Ruler, who was facing first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder charges before his death in Dec. 2021.

The LA-based rapper, who was 28 when he died, had lyrics from his song “Flex Freestyle” pulled as evidence he killed a 24-year-old man. He was later acquitted.

Rappers Tyga, Meek Mill, Killer Mike, Too $hort, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, and E-40, were virtually present when Newsom signed the bill.

The signing was also virtually attended by Calif. Rep. Reggie Jones-Sawyer and Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of The Recording Academy.

“For too long, prosecutors in California have used rap lyrics as a convenient way to inject racial bias and confusion into the criminal justice process,” Dina LaPolt, co-founder of Songwriters of North America, said in a statement, according to Variety.

“This legislation sets up important guardrails that will help courts hold prosecutors accountable and prevent them from criminalizing Black and Brown artistic expression. Thank you, Gov. Newsom, for setting the standard. We hope Congress will pass similar legislation, as this is a nationwide problem.”

“Not having this legislation has allowed people to utilize people’s creativity and lyrics against them when we know that’s not fair,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said ahead of the signing. “I don’t think anybody in the studio when they’re in their cars in their garage or when they’re writing music, they shouldn’t be thinking about, ‘Is this going to be something that I shouldn’t say in art and music?’”

“We should be able to express ourselves. We should be able to say things that are on our minds and our hearts or in our imaginations without fear of somebody bringing this up in a courtroom,” he added.

47 deputies barred from active duty for failing psych evaluations

Nearly 50 sheriff deputies in California were barred from active duty Friday because they had failed their psychological evaluations dating back to 2016 — and should have never been hired, according to a report.

In total, 47 Alameda County Sheriff deputies — about 5% of the 1,000-member force — were relieved from active duty and stripped of their weapons, local Fox affiliate KTVU reported.

The exodus was sparked by a deputy who allegedly committed a double murder earlier this month. He had received a “Not Suited” remark on his psych evaluation, according to the outlet.

The deputy, Devin Williams Jr., 24, is accused in the slaughter of a married couple in Dublin, California. He allegedly shot the couple dead inside their home on Sept. 7 after completing a double shift at the Santa Rita Jail.

Williams — who was reportedly having an affair with the wife — had failed his psychological exam, but was hired in September 2021 nonetheless, KTVU reported, citing four sources familiar with the situation.

Because of liability issues, the sheriff’s department began auditing which other deputies might have failed the tests, but were still hired.

The audit found that 47 deputies were in active duty, despite receiving a “Not Suited” result on their psych evals. Of those, 30 worked at Santa Rita Jail and the remaining 17 have jobs elsewhere, Kelly told the station.

The nearly 50 deputies were informed of their dismissal from duty in a letter from Sheriff Gregory Ahern dated Sept. 23.

“The Sheriff’s Office has been operating under information provided a number of years ago from POST that we can hire candidates who received a ‘D. Not Suited’ evaluation,” Ahern wrote in the letter obtained by KTVU. “Unfortunately, this is not the case.”

Deputies who were graded “Not Suited” in their evaluations cannot serve as a peace officer in California under state rules, he said.

“Our legal counsel has informed our Office that you will not be authorized to carry a firearm and you cannot make arrests based upon probable cause, issue traffic citations or perform any function reserved for peace officers,” Ahern wrote.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office began its audit for liability issues.
AP

He promised to schedule another psychological test for each deputy and resolve the issue quickly.

“Our intention is to resolve this issue as quickly as possible,” Ahern wrote. “We also intend to have you return to full duty status once you obtain a ‘Suitable’ finding.”

The 47 deputies will retain pay and benefits and will be placed on assignments not in active duty, according to the letter.

Sheriff spokesperson Lt. Ray Kelly confirmed to KTVU that the audit was prompted by Williams’ alleged crime.

“I know that people are going to assume that all these deputies are killers,” Kelly told the station. “But that’s not true. This test tries to find out if you are psychologically suitable for the job, to handle all the horrible things we see. At the age of 22, sometimes you’re not.”

Candidates for the job receive “Not Suited” results for a range of red flags including mental health issues, financial problems, too many marriages and divorces or drug and alcohol issues, a retired employee told KTVU.

He added that in the past, candidates who failed the evaluation were simply told they wouldn’t be hired but the rules had gotten more lax under Ahern.

“I know this isn’t good,” Kelly said. “But it’s not as bad as it sounds.”

California Brink’s truck holdup leaves 1 dead, 2 wounded

OAKLAND, Calif. — An attempted robbery of an armored car in Oakland on Friday left one person dead and two others injured, including a Brink’s employee, police said.

Reports of a shooting sent officers to a parking lot outside an auto parts store at about 2 p.m., where they found two people with gunshot wounds, police said.

One died at the scene and the other, a Brink’s employee, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong said.

A third person — an innocent bystander who was struck by gunfire — went separately to a hospital, police said.

Witnesses told KTVU-TV that they heard as many as 20 gunshots.

Authorities said a white car with several people inside was involved in the shooting.

“We are looking for information and video related to that vehicle and to those individuals in that vehicle. We’re trying to identify them as well,” Armstrong said.

He said the FBI is involved in the investigation.

The incident occurred outside an auto parts store on Friday afternoon in Oakland.
KTKU

Brink’s told KPIX-TV that the company was working with law enforcement and didn’t have any information to share.

It was the sixth deadly shooting in Oakland this week and the 92nd homicide of the year. Armstrong asked the public to come forward with information to help solve the recent killings.

“We also ask the community to continue to get rid of the guns that continue to plague our community,” the chief said.
