Oscars 2024 Full List of Nominations: Oppenheimer Leads with 13 Nods

The Oscars 2024 nominees have been announced, with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer leading as expected, bagging 13 nods. The biographical film about the life of American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the birth of the atomic bomb has already won five Golden Globes and eight Critics Choice awards. The Cillian Murphy starrer is shortly followed by Emma Stone’s science fiction fantasy Poor Things and Leonardo DiCaprio’s historical crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon, which have been nominated in 11 and 10 categories, respectively.

However, Barbie surprisingly dropped from the highest number of nominations in Critics Choice Awards to just eight nods for Oscars. Although the “Barbenheimer” pop-culture sensation is still leading the pack with a total of 21 nominations.

With the nominations for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Best Visual Effects for Godzilla Minus One, the Godzilla and Mission: Impossible film franchises have finally made it to the Oscar nominations for the first time in history. Killer of the Flower Moon’s Lily Gladstone, too, hit a new milestone, becoming the first indigenous actress of American descent to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Speaking of records, Martin Scorsese hit two of them, with most Oscar nominations in Best Director category for any living filmmaker and the oldest one nominated for the same.

While last year India made history by winning the Best Original Song Oscar for the energetic Naatu Nattu from RRR, there are no contenders from the South Asian country this time.

However, a documentary called To Killer a Tiger, based on a gangrape case in Jharkhand – directed by India-born Canadian filmmaker Nisha Pahuja – has been nominated in the Best Documentary Feature Film category.

Other films that garnered nominations include Bradley Cooper’s Maestro, American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, The Zone of Interest, and Napoleon.

Bradley Cooper shows Eagles fandom all over Super Bowl 2023

One of the Eagles’ top A-list fans has been an active participant in Super Bowl 2023 against the Kansas City Chiefs. From a Super Bowl commercial to a meme-worthy moment with some nachos, Bradley Cooper has been everywhere.

The 48-year-old is a lifelong Eagles fan, growing up outside Philadelphia in Abington Township. His links to the city don’t stop there. The nine-time Oscar-nominated actor had a lead in “Silver Linings Playbook” — a film set in Philly that features several game-day moments — and he was the voice for an Eagles apology to Santa Claus in an ESPN promo for the infamous snowball-throwing incident.

Cooper has made a number of appearances at Lincoln Financial field over the years, sporting notable fashion pieces including an Allen Iverson shirt and vintage Eagles bomber jacket sitting alongside team owner Jeffrey Lurie.

For the year’s big game, Cooper called up his mom to act opposite him in a T-Mobile commercial, advertising their 5G services. The ad opens with T-Mobile explaining they tried to create a commercial with the mother-son duo, with Cooper as a company rep while his mom plays a customer. The commercial shows the two’s endless laughter as they mess up several takes.

Cooper’s mother opens up with “I don’t like the way you look” after he asks how he can help her.

Cooper was also the narrator for Sunday’s game introduction and was the voice behind one of the Eagles’ hype videos.

“We have an obsession around here,” Cooper opens with between flashes of video of the team, Eagles fans, and the city itself. “To stay in the moment. To focus on every single detail. The next minute. The next meeting. The next practice. The next game.”

Cooper is in attendance at State Farm Stadium for the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, wearing an Eagles shirt. He even fueled up on some pregame nachos to cheer on his hometown team.

“Together, we’ve got one goal: Bring that Lombardi Trophy back home,” he concluded in the hype video.

Maestro First Look: Bradley Cooper Looks Unrecognisable as Legendary Conductor Leonard Bernstein

Maestro first look is here. On Monday, streaming platform Netflix shared a few stills from its biographical drama on the life of the iconic broadway conductor Leonard Bernstein to pique the curiosity of fans. In them, we see Bradley Cooper in a virtually unrecognisable avatar as he transforms into the music legend. His body language and intense gaze are hard to miss. These stills also give us a look at the softer moments from Bernstein’s life as we see Cooper with Carey Mulligan, who plays his wife Felicia Montealegre.

Besides Cooper and Mulligan, the Maestro cast includes Jeremy Strong as art critic John Jonas Gruen, and Maya Hawke as Bernstein’s daughter Jamie Bernstein. The rest of the cast is likely to be announced later this year. The actor directs the film off a screenplay he wrote alongside Josh Singer. Maestro is produced by Cooper, Fred Berner, Amy Durning, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Todd Phillips, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg

In case you didn’t know, The Bernstein biopic was originally supposed to be directed by Spielberg with Cooper in the lead. The actor, however, requested him to merely produce it as he wanted to write and direct it himself. This paved the way for Maestro as we know it.

Earlier this year, Cooper had told Variety: “I told Spielberg, ‘I always felt like I could play a conductor, but may I research the material and see if I can write it and direct it? Would you let me do that?’ Steven has a lot of interests — he’ll just choose one thing and all of the other things will be on hold. I think he knew he wasn’t going to make that movie for a while. He was kind enough to hand it off to me, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last four and a half years.”

Maestro, interestingly, will not be Cooper’s first directorial venture as he previously directed the musical drama A Star Is Born, which emerged as a blockbuster when it was released in 2018.

So, will Maestro live up to the standards Cooper set for himself with A Star Is Born. We’ll find out when the film releases on Netflix in 2023.
