K.G.F: Chapter 2 Is the Highest-Selling, Most-Watched Movie in 2022, According to BookMyShow

K.G.F: Chapter 2 — Prashanth Neel’s sequel to the period thriller — was among the highest-selling and most-watched movies in 2022. As per BookMyShow’s “Best of 2022” report, on release day — April 14 — the movie managed to sell 2.14 million tickets, with further collections coming in the following weekends. The Kannada-language film sold 34 percent of overall tickets in the weekends of 2022, surpassing S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, to emerge as the best-selling film on the platform, with a whopping 17.7 million tickets sold.

According to BookMyShow, K.G.F: Chapter 2 also topped the charts for the highest number of advance bookings, succeeded by the likes of RRR, Ponniyin Selvan: I, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and oddly enough, Idris Elba-led Beast — not the Tamil-language film of the same name, starring Vijay.

The BookMyShow statistics also mention a 116 percent increase in audiences wanting an “immersive cinematic experience” over regular screens. This naturally refers to 3D, IMAX 2D, IMAX 3D, and 4DX formats, which were also heavily promoted during Avatar’s re-release, back in September. The IMAX and 4DX formats are mostly popular with Hollywood films, with Indian titles making a small percentage of the total.

Going by the data collected from the period of January 1 to December 5, BookMyShow Stream — the company’s video-on-demand platform — recorded 1.11 lakh hours of viewing in 2022. The year also saw 200 films getting added to the streaming platform, which 93 percent of the Indian audience devoured. The remaining seven percent, however, opted to buy those films for viewing at their leisure. While there are no explicit figures, the company notes that Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Spacewalker, and the 2020-released documentary centring on the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, Assassins, were the “highest viewed” films on BMS Stream. The Marvel Cinematic Universe entry in the list also has an extended version up for streaming or purchasing, which includes some content that was cut from the theatrical version.

2022 also welcomed some Oscar-nominated movies onto BookMyShow Stream, with Will smith-led King Richard, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, Kristen Stewart’s Spencer, and Parallel Mothers starring Penélope Cruz among the key highlights.

The BookMyShow report also mentions that 8 million audience members stepped out for on-ground live entertainment, across 19,000 plus events — a positive development, after having endured the COVID-19 lockdowns across 2020 and 2021.

Ram Setu The Run: Akshay Kumar Movie Becomes Endless Runner Mobile Game for Android, iOS

Ram Setu just got an official mobile game. In a partnership between nCore Games and Amazon Prime Video, the Akshay Kumar-led action-adventure movie has received an endless runner game. Ram Setu: The Run comes from Mumbai-based developer Dot9 Games, boasting local split-screen multiplayer, cinematic elements, and cinematic visuals inspired by the upcoming movie — releasing October 25, in theatres. Ram Setu: The Run is now available to download for free on Android and iOS devices.

nCore’s latest mobile game features traditional endless runner elements, featuring obstacles that one needs to jump or roll through. Ram Setu: The Run draws inspiration from the movie to add spinning blades, explosive barrels, and trucks bashing in from the sides, urging players to switch up their strategy. This is adding to the random thugs popping in, who can be knocked out by timing a down swipe — sending your character into a flying kick attack. Players can choose between the three leading roles of Dr. Aryan Kulshrestha (Akshay Kumar), Sandra (Jacqueline Fernandez), or AP (Satyadev Kancharana). The last two can be unlocked using gold earned via playthrough.

The mechanics draw inspiration from titles like Temple Run, adding magnets for easy pickings, a shield, and score multipliers. Each of the three characters can be upgraded for tougher runs in the future and can be dressed in windproof gear. The latter can be purchased using diamonds, a rare in-game commodity. Additionally, Ram Setu: The Run often spawns jeeps, which understandably, grants speed and lets you smash through obstacles. However, it is limited to only two hits. Then there are drones, shooting down lasers, which can be avoided by a simple screen swipe.

“Ram Setu: The Run is our attempt at marrying our prowess in game development with a blockbuster IP to bring a polished, entertaining gaming experience that anyone can just pick up and play,” said Deepak Ail, Co-Founder and CEO, Dot9 Games, in a prepared statement. “To further underscore our commitment to that, our team has worked hard to ensure it is optimised well enough to be playable even on low-end smartphones as well as tablets. Gaming is for everyone and Ram Setu: The Run is our effort in making that a reality.”

Ram Setu: The Run is out now on Android and iOS. The Akshay Kumar-led Ram Setu movie releases the day after Diwali, October 25, in theatres.

The third season of the hit Amazon series Four More Shots Please! will premiere on October 21, Amazon Prime Video announced Friday.

Created by Rangita Pritish Nandy and produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, Four More Shots Please! is headlined by actors Sayani Gupta, Kirti Kulhari, Bani J, and Maanvi Gagroo.

Four More Shots Please! season 3 is directed by Joyeeta Patpatia, and written by Devika Bhagat with dialogues by Ishita Moitra.

The third season will bring back to screens the lives of four unapologetically flawed women — Damini (Gupta), Umang (Bani J), Anjana (Kulhari), and Siddhi (Gagroo), who live, love, blunder, and discover what continues to make them tick through their forever friendship in the city of Mumbai.

Actors Jim Sarbh, Rohan Mehra, Shilpa Shukla, and Sushant Singh join the cast for the third season, which also includes Prateik Babbar, Lisa Ray, Neil Bhooplam, Rajeev Siddharth, Amrita Puri, Simone Singh, and Samir Kochhar.

Rangita Pritish Nandy called the upcoming chapter of the show as the “most personal season”.

“Season one, you met Anjana, Damini, Umang and Siddhi, season two, you saw them stumble through life-lessons and blunders, season three, watch our girls own themselves; drama, failures, errors in judgment, losses and warts, all included,” Rangita said in a prepared statement.

“In that sense, season 3 is our most personal season. There is no way that you will not want to be a part of this friendship,” Rangita added.

Buoyed by the success of the first two instalments, producer Pritish Nandy said the show’s team has worked harder to produce a power-packed season three.

“Four More Shots Please! travels to Italy and Punjab this season, apart from South Mumbai; the drama is bigger, the scale is larger, and the friendship is stronger,” Pritish said.

“The show’s nomination at the international Emmys in 2021 is a testament to the fact that Four More Shots Please! has hit a personal note with audiences in India and internationally.

There is really no other show that celebrates female friendships like Four More Shots Please! and I’m hopeful that our fandom will grow substantially with this new season.”

Aparna Purohit, Head of India Originals at Prime Video India, said Four More Shots Please! has been a true labour of love for the streaming service.

“It’s a celebration of sisterhood. This show reaffirms our commitment to promoting diverse and new cinematic voices and making Prime Video a home for talent,” Purohit added.

“Seventy per cent of the creators who we work with on a project, work with us again and that exemplifies true collaboration.

The Good Wife Teaser Trailer: Kajol Leads Hotstar’s Indian Remake of the American Political Drama Series

The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka, a new Hotstar Specials, just got a first-look teaser. Disney+ Hotstar revealed a 30-second trailer for the upcoming Kajol-led Indian adaptation of the American political drama series. Suparn Verma — known for Amazon Prime’s The Family Man — directs the Hindi remake, featuring Kajol as a litigator, marking her debut in a series. The Good Wife is currently mid-production and therefore, does not have a release window. It is produced by Banijay Asia, known for reality TV shows like Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls.

The Indian adaptation of The Good Wife is the fifth time the original Julianna Margulies-led CBS show has been remade. Plot details are scarce, but going by the premise of the original show, — now streaming on Amazon Prime Video — the series will focus on the comeback of a retired lawyer, who spent the last 13 years as a stay-at-home mother. The conflict here is that her husband, a famous politician, was jailed following his involvement in a sex scandal. The single mother must now be the sole breadwinner, raising her two children, whilst facing scrutiny from the general public and her coworkers.

As for The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka teaser, it simply shows a montage of Kajol dressing up in her black lawyer’s suit and stepping into what looks like her law firm. “I have been playing multiple characters throughout my acting journey, but the firsts are always special. The beauty of OTT platforms is that they give creators and actors an opportunity to reinvent and experiment with different formats, and with Disney+ Hotstar’s The Good Wife, that’s exactly what I got!” Kajol said in a prepared statement. “As a career first move, I will be playing a lawyer in my first ever series, directed by the fabulous Suparn Verma.”

The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka joins the list of three other Indian original shows that were announced Thursday, as part of Disney+ Day. One of them was in fact written by the aforementioned Verma. Titled “Lootere,” the plot follows a commercial Indian ship that gets hijacked off the coast of Somalia. The series does not have a release date, and sees father-son directing duo Hansal and Jai Mehta reuniting since their work on SonyLIV’s Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.

There is no release window for The Good Wife – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka, which will be available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.

Qala Song: Netflix Unveils BTS Sneak Peek for Tripti Dimri-Led Movie

Qala just revealed a sneak peek trailer, powered by a sweet musical piece. On Monday, at an event in Mumbai, Netflix unveiled a fresh look at the upcoming Anvitaa Dutt-directed film, focusing on classical musicians in the early 1930s and late 1940s. Qala marks the second collaboration between the director and Tripti Dimri, following Netflix’s horror drama Bulbbul. Dutt, who served as a lyricist for a major portion of her career, is back with her second directorial feature, which she orchestrates from an original script.

A musical setpiece — ghazal — dictates the sombre tone for the new teaser for Qala. Dimri is the centre of attention, singing “Phero Na Najariya” by Amit Trivedi and Kausar Munir, as random production clips pop up. The Netflix original film is billed as a heartbreaking story about a daughter who craves her mother’s love. This theme strongly resonates with the song, which is a request to not look/ walk away and focus all attention on the singer — here Dimri. There also seems to be a live audience before her, including some kind of a foreigner, which makes sense since this is set years before India’s independence.

Swastika Mukherjee plays the estranged mother, who gets worse for wear as time passes, losing the little connection she had with her daughter. “Mother-daughter relationships are sacred and often complicated,” said Dutt in a prepared statement. “I am ecstatic to have such incredible actors on board and cannot wait for the world to discover the film with Tripti, Babil, and Swastika.” It is worth mentioning that Babil is the son of late actor Irrfan Khan (The Lunchbox), and will be making his acting debut with Qala.

Qala also stars Amit Sial, Neer Raao, Avinash Raj Sharma, and Ashish Singh. The new film sees Netflix expanding its partnership with Clean Slate Filmz banner. The production company is co-owned by actress Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh — the former also unveiled a new BTS look at her upcoming sports biopic Chakda ‘Xpress earlier today.

Currently, there is no release window for Netflix’s Qala.

Chakda ‘Xpress Filming: Anushka Sharma Wraps First Schedule of Production on Netflix Movie

Anushka Sharma announced Saturday that she has completed the first schedule of filming on her upcoming movie Chakda ‘Xpress, a biopic on former Indian cricket captain Jhulan Goswami.

“Schedule one done. More to follow.. #ChakdaXpress @jhulangoswami @prositroy @kans26 @netflix_in @officialcsfilms,” the 34-year-old actress said in a caption alongside a picture of a cricket ball, as she announced the schedule wrap on Instagram.

The Netflix film, directed by Prosit Roy, traces Goswami’s journey as she moves up the ladder despite the hindrances posed by misogynistic politics to fulfil her dream of playing cricket for India.

Goswami is one of the fastest bowlers in the history of women’s cricket, and has been ranked first in the ICC Women’s ODI bowling rankings.

Back in March — she continues to play for the Indian cricket team at age 39 — Goswami became the first bowler to take 250 wickets in women’s ODI cricket.

Anushka is also producing Chakda ‘Xpress along with her brother Karnesh Ssharma via their production banner Clean Slate Filmz.

Sharma started shooting for the Netflix film last month. She has previously worked with Roy on her 2018 supernatural horror movie Pari. Sharma’s last acting gig was 2018’s Shah Rukh Khan-led movie Zero.

Chakda ‘Xpress was officially revealed at the start of 2022, with Netflix then saying that filming would begin soon.

“At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport,” Sharma said in a prepared statement then. “This film is a dramatic retelling of several instances that shaped her life and also women’s cricket.

“From support systems, to facilities, to having a stable income from playing the game, to even having a future in cricket — very little propelled women of India to take up cricket as a profession.

“Jhulan had a fighting and extremely uncertain cricketing career and she stayed motivated to make her country proud. She strived to change the stereotype that women can’t make a career out of playing cricket in India so that the next generation of girls had a better playing field.

“Her life is a living testimony that passion and perseverance triumphs over any or all adversities and Chakda ‘Xpress is the most definitive look into the not so rosy world of women’s cricket back then.

“There is still a lot of work to be done and we have to empower them with the best so that the sport can flourish for women in India.”

Chakda ‘Xpress will premiere on Netflix. No release window, let alone a date, has been set.

Masaba Masaba Season 2 Release Date Set as July 29 on Netflix

Masaba Masaba season 2 release date is here. On Thursday, Netflix announced that the second season of the biographical series Masaba Masaba will debut July 29 on the streaming platform with a tweet that read: “A name so nice, we can’t help but say it twice 🥰 #MasabaMasaba Season 2 arrives 29th July with twice the fashion, twice the flair, new faces and the same shenanigans.” Netflix also shared the Masaba Masaba season 2 teaser, featuring Neena Gupta and her fashion designer daughter Masaba Gupta.

Netflix’s announcement comes days after Gadgets 360 had reported the month and correctly guessed the Masaba Masaba season 2 release date. Besides Neena and Masaba, the Masaba Masaba season 2 cast includes Neil Bhoopalam, Rytasha Rathore, Kusha Kapila, Kareema Barry, Barkha Singh, Ram Kapoor, and Armaan Khera. The series is directed by Sonam Nair and produced by Ashvini Yardi under the Viniyard Films banner.

Nair said in a prepared statement: “When Ashvini Yardi brought Masaba Masaba to me, it was an idea, an idea I fell in love with immediately, and I was sure it was going to bring a host of good feelings with it. Bringing this series to life for me, was an experience I’ll never forget. I got to experiment and work with not only a great service like Netflix but also incredibly dedicated, honest and talented actors. Season 2 is a pivot into newer regions but with the same amount of heart and I can’t wait for audiences to see it”

Yardi thanked Netflix for collaborating with her on the project: “I always say, with Masaba Masaba, I had a vision — and I was sure I needed to find the right people to bring it to life. We were lucky to find a service like Netflix to collaborate with on this project, because the fit was so perfect! The love from season 1 was overwhelming and we’ve come back bigger and better this time around. Masaba Masaba season 2 debuts July 29 on Netflix, nearly two years after the first instalment, which released in 2020. There’s no word on the number of episodes as that bit is likely to be revealed closer to the release date.

Jaadugar Trailer Out: Jitendra Kumar Impresses as Magician Meenu in Netflix Movie

Jaadugar trailer is here. On Tuesday, streaming platform Netflix released a nearly two-and-a-half-minute trailer for the Jitendra Kumar-led Hindi-language sports dramedy feature film to pique the curiosity of fans. The Jaadugar trailer introduces us to Meenu (Kumar), a struggling magician and hopeless romantic, who has no interest in sports. In a particularly amusing sequence, he makes a complete fool of himself while trying to demonstrate his non-existent football skills. The focus soon shifts to his love interest (Arushi Sharma), who appears to be an eye doctor. We are soon treated to some cheesy yet enjoyable romantic exchanges between the two. The Jaadugar trailer ends with rousing sequences, in which we see Meenu trying to prove his worth by shining on the football field.

Besides Kumar and Sharma, the Jaadugar cast includes Manoj Joshi, Jaaved Jaaferi, and Dhruv Thukral in key roles. The Jaadugar trailer, however, does not reveal much about their characters as the focus is on the lead pair.

Sameer Saxena, best known to many for directing the romantic comedy web series Permanent Roommates for The Viral Fever (TVF), directs Jaadugar off a script from writer-producer Biswapati Sarkar. Amit Golani and Saurabh Khanna have produced the movie under the Posham Pa Pictures banner.

In a prepared statement, Kumar thanked the team for casting him: “Jaadugar is a film extremely close to my heart. Playing the larger-than-life rebellious Meenu was a new and exciting journey for me. I am thankful to the director Sameer Saxena and the Posham Pa and Chalkboard entertainment teams for bringing this beautiful family entertainer to life and trusting me with this role. I hope to entertain Netflix audiences in India and across 190+ countries with the magical world of Jaadugar.”

For Kumar, Jaadugar will be his third collaboration with Netflix, after the romantic drama Chaman Bahaaar and the second season of the web series Kota Factory.

Jaadugar debuts July 15 on Netflix in India and around the world.

Netflix to Release Darlings Starring Alia Bhatt Later This Year, Quirky Video Reveals

Netflix has announced that the upcoming Hindi-language comedy drama Darlings will release directly on the streaming platform, skipping the theatrical route. The platform shared this news with a fun-filled video in which we see those associated with the feature film avoiding questions about its release plans. The video not only piques the curiosity of fans but also introduces us to the Darlings cast that is headlined by Alia Bhatt, Vijay Varma, Shefali Shah, and Roshan Mathew. It, however, does not confirm an exact release date, which suggests that Netflix is yet to finalise one.

Bhatt said in a prepared statement: “Darlings holds a very special place in my heart, it’s my first film as producer that too with Red Chillies. We are very proud and happy how the film has shaped up and we hope it will entertain and engage audiences world over.”

Set in a conservative lower middle-class neighbourhood, Darlings is said to revolve around how the protagonist and her mother find courage to deal with extraordinarily challenging circumstances.

Darlings is directed by Jasmeet K. Reen and marks her directorial debut. Gauri Khan, Bhatt, and Gaurav Verma have produced the film under the Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Production banners. Red Chillies Entertainment previously produced films such as the reincarnation drama Om Shanti Om, the fantasy movie Paheli, the mystery-thriller Badla, and the mystery-thriller Bob Biswas. Eternal Sunshine Productions, on the other hand, has been set up by Bhatt and Darlings is its maiden production venture.

This, interestingly, will be Bhatt’s second major movie to release directly on digital streaming platforms after the 2020 action-drama Sadak 2. The Mahesh Bhatt-helmed film, a sequel to the 1991 release Sadak, premiered on Disney+ Hotstar to negative reviews. Darlings comes at a time when the Student of the Year actor is going through a good phase on the work front as she was last seen in Telugu-language period drama RRR, which grossed nearly Rs. 1,200 crore worldwide to emerge as a blockbuster. It will be worth watching whether Darlings proves to be a memorable release for her.

Darlings will drop later this year on Netflix but its release date is yet to be announced.

Alia Bhatt to Katrina Kaif: 5 Divas who chose a pastel pink salwar as their go-to summer wear

The traditional ensemble featured a floral blush pink kurta adorned with spring-inspired print in a dark pink hue. The outfit bore a calf-grazing hem length and a loose silhouette. Alia teamed the kurta with matching flared pants adorned with silver patti borders on the hem. She rounded off the look with an organza dupatta decked in white lace patti border and floral print. Mojari sandals, her diamond engagement ring, and dainty jhumkas completed her look. She added a modish touch to her airport look with a colourful printed Christian Dior tote bag.

Nora Fatehi 

Nora also chose a blush pink salwar suit as her summer airport look. The Kusu Kusu girl stepped out in a cotton silk set that featured a midi kurta with a close neck adorning a tassel tie up detail. The kurta was decked in gorgeous embroidery all done in white threads along with small tassels hanging on the hem. Nora teamed the kurta with matching straight-fit pants and rounded the look with an wholly embroidered dupatta featuring tassels in the border. She accessorised her look with pearl studs, white embroidered juttis and a white quilted sling bag. 

Kiara Advani 

Kiara proved that there is elegance in simplicity as she stepped out in the city wearing a baby pink salwar set. The set featured a plain, sleeveless, calf-grazing kurta that was teamed with matching cropped pants and a sheer dupatta. Kiara maintained the simplicity of the look as she skipped on the accessories and simply styled her traditional attire an opulent blue Gucci Diana bag. 

Kriti Sanon 

Kriti Sanon pulled off the ethnic look with charm and comeliness in a pastel pink salwar suit by Nachiket Barve. The outfit featured an embroidered kurta with a floral vest-like design on top with heavy embroidery. The kurta was teamed with a pair of palazzo pants with a scalloped hem. The Shehzaada actress completed the look with minimal diamond earrings and a statement ring.
