Adidas Expands ‘Into The Metaverse’ Web3 Initiative with Chapter 1 of ALTS Dynamic NFTs

Adidas is not shying away from deep diving into Web3 exploration as a way to connect and engage with its younger and more tech-savvy customers. The shoes and apparel brand has announced the launch of its ALTS Dynamic NFT collection, as part of expanding its ‘Into The Metaverse’ initiative that was kickstarted in 2021. Adidas is among several brands in the fashion and lifestyle industry that has established itself as an early adopter of the Web3 world.

The company, that has its global corporate headquarters in Germany, has listed over 16,000 Ethereum-built NFTs on the OpenSea NFT marketplace, with the floor price of ETH 0.75 or $1,438 (roughly Rs. 1.17 lakh).

From the looks of the NFTS on OpenSea, they depict what appears to be a person undergoing a transition atop a glowing Adidas logo.

People who purchased NFTs from Adidas’ first two ‘Into The Metaverse’ collection can burn their NFTs to receive a brand new NFT from the ALTS by Adidas collection. They will only be required to pay the gas fee and see their NFT evolve into a Dynamic ALTS collectible with eight different ALT[er] egos, explained a report by CoinDesk. All of the eight ALT[er] egos come with different interactive storylines and rarity quotients.

“Embarking on a new era in the Adidas Web3 journey, we are reaching the third and final phase of Into The Metaverse with ALTS by adidas: your identity and PFP (picture for proof)— an interactive storyline which will culminate with the reveal. Chapter 1 of this new adventure begins in April 2023 with further utility and enhanced holder benefits rolled out over the following months,” Adidas wrote on its OpenSea description.

At the end of Chapter 3 of this ALT Dynamic NFT series, Adidas will give a unique PFP loaded with multiple trait combinations as well as a rarity rank.

Adidas tweeted more information about this ‘evolving NFTs’ collection via the Twitter handle of Indico Herz, which is actually an NFT itself. Adidas bought BAYC #8774, also named Indigo Herz in September 2022 for ETH 46 ETH — which as per ETH’s current pricing amounts to $88,236 (roughly Rs. 72 lakh).

Presently, ALTS by Adidas #3424 has been purchased for the highest so far price of ETH 0.780 or $1,495 (roughly Rs. 1.22 lakh) on OpenSea. The collection has already roped in over 9,000 owners with 56 percent unique owners.      

NFT sales reportedly rose by a massive 117 percent in February 2023. Around March, the valuation of the global NFT market climbed to its nine-month high since June last year to over $2 billion (roughly Rs. 17,200 crore).

A new research report claims that the utility of NFTs in the Web3 world is the top reason why tech-savvy investors are turning their attention towards buying digital collectibles. The second most major reason why NFTs appeal to the buyers is the element of long-term profits that they hold.

Adidas to drop Kanye West after his anti-Semitic outbursts

Adidas plans to sever ties with Kanye West after facing mounting pressure to do so in the wake of the rapper’s bizarre anti-Semitic outbursts and public meltdowns, a report revealed Tuesday.

The apparel brand, who announced last week their 10-year relationship with West was “under review,” could announce the move as early as Tuesday, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News.

Adidas is the latest high-profile brand, including Balenciaga and Vogue, to cut ties or reconsider their relationships with the rapper-turned-designer following his slew of controversial remarks in recent weeks.

The shoemaker’s decision came after they faced heavy backlash for staying silent when the outrage against West first erupted.

Some accused the retailer of putting profits over ethics for not publicly condemning the 45-year-old’s string of anti-Semitic tweets.

The #boycottadidas hashtag also started trending at one point.

West, who has legally changed his name to Ye, has been releasing his Yeezy sneaker lines with Adidas since 2015.

Upcoming Yeezy collections, which are set to retail between $200-$300, are already scheduled to drop later this year.

West had addressed the possibility of Adidas dropping him ahead of the official announcement, telling TMZ over the weekend that the brand is “going through legal right now so anything can happen.”

Elsewhere in that interview, the father-of-four was adamant he didn’t think he would be canceled — despite being dropped by the big-name brands.

“I ain’t losing no money,” he said. “The day I was taken off the Balenciaga site, that was one of the most freeing days.”

West added that businesses were only cutting ties with him to simply “score points.”

“We here, baby, we ain’t going nowhere,” he insisted.

West briefly hired Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez to oversee all of his businesses, but she dropped him in a matter of days after he refused to retract his words.

“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE,” West wrote in an Oct. 9 tweet — making an erroneous reference to the military term “defcon,” short for Defense Readiness Condition, or how fast the U.S. armed forces could be deployed in response to a threat.

He earlier shared a since-deleted screenshot on Instagram of an iMessage exchange in which he accused Sean Combs, aka Diddy, of being controlled by Jews.

Asked if he was sorry for his remarks, West told The Post columnist Piers Morgan last week: “No. Absolutely not.”

A number of brands quickly moved to end their partnerships with him, including Balenciaga, who said they “no longer any relationship nor any plans for future projects related to this artist.”

A Vogue spokesperson told Page Six last week that they, too, had no plans to work with the rapper again.

Adidas RPT-02 SOL Solar Powered Wireless Headphones With Up to 80-Hour Battery Life Launched

Adidas RPT-02 SOL solar-powered wireless headphones have been launched in the US. The headphones come with the ability to charge using both natural and artificial light and pack a control knob to answer or reject calls, control volume and skip tracks and more. The Adidas RPT-02 SOL pack 45mm dynamic drivers and have Bluetooth v5.2 for connectivity. They are IPX4 rated for sweat and water resistance. Adidas claims that its new audio device offers up to 80 hours of playback time.

The price of the Adidas RPT-02 SOL is set at $229 (roughly Rs. 18,000) in the US. They are currently listed on the company website in Night Grey and Solar Yellow colour options. Adidas will start shipping the new wireless headphones on August 23.

The new Adidas RPT-02 SOL flagship over-ear wireless headphones are powered by 45mm dynamic drivers that have a frequency response range of 20–20,000Hz, a sensitivity rating of 105dB, and impedance of 32Ohms. They come with microphones and pack a five-way control knob for on, off, play, pause, replay, and pairing to devices. Also, they include light status indicators.

On the top of the Adidas RPT-02 SOL is the Powerfoyle solar charging panel made by the Sweden-based company Exeger. The panel allows the headphones to charge on their own when exposed to sunlight. The panel covers the entire top of the headband, creating a large surface area for the device to capture both natural and artificial light for charging. Further, the inner headband and ear cushions of Adidas RPT-02 SOL are claimed to be removable and washable.

The Adidas RPT-02 SOL have an IPX4-rated body that is dust- and water-resistant. The headphones offer Bluetooth v5.2 connectivity with a maximum operating distance of 10 meters. They are compatible with the Adidas Headphones app that let users control the solar-powered device from their Android or iOS mobile phones.

Adidas says the Adidas RPT-02 SOL can provide up to 80 hours of playback on a single charge of two hours. They can also be charged via the USB Type-C cable. They weigh 256 grams.

Ukraine Crisis: Acer Suspends Business in Russia

Taiwan tech firm Acer said Friday it was halting all business in Russia after Taipei expanded sanctions over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Self-ruled Taiwan has been watching the conflict in Ukraine closely and swiftly joined the international sanctions against Russia.

The invasion has heightened fears that China might one day follow through on threats to annex its smaller neighbour.

Acer said in a statement it has decided to suspend its business in Russia “due to recent developments”.

“The company is focusing on the safety of all its employees, which includes ongoing efforts to help every individual and their families impacted by the current situation.”

Taiwan’s government recently listed 57 “strategic high-tech commodities” subjected to tighter export controls, including computers, telecoms and avionics devices, as well as equipment for making semiconductors.

Exporters must seek prior approval from the Bureau of Foreign Trade if they wish to ship the controlled items to Russia.

The island is a major manufacturing hub for microchips and home to the world’s largest contract chipmaker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Last month, another leading Taiwanese computer maker Asus announced that its shipments to Russia were “at a standstill” due to the war.

Acer’s announcement came days after Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov published a letter to Asus chairman Jonney Shih calling on the firm to “end any relationships” with Russia.

Fedorov — who is also Ukraine’s digital minister — has also urged multinational tech companies such as Intel, Microsoft and PayPal to halt operations in Russia.

A growing number of multinationals, from McDonald’s to Adidas and Samsung, have fully or partially halted business in Russia.
