Subscribers will be able to play a bunch of titles from the cloud without actually owning or downloading them on their console. For beta testing, players can choose between four main resolutions — 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p — and test a catalogue of 12 games, which includes God of War Ragnarök, Death Stranding, Demon’s Souls, Horizon Forbidden West, and more.

World Mobile has launched its services in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and Tanzania through an app first available to Android users. World Mobile is a network operator, that has integrated mobile network services with blockchain and crypto technologies, both of which are part of the Web3 family. Through its advanced network services, the company aims to bridge the gap between mainstream telecom operators and those regions, where connectivity is still an issue.

The London, UK-headquartered company tweeted the official announcement about availability in these new markets on August 22.

World Mobile provides decentralised wireless (DeWi) network service through a proprietary token and a network sharing system built on the Cardano blockchain. This proprietary token is named the World Mobile Token (WMT).

“Unlike traditional mobile networks, we’re based on blockchain and the sharing economy. Local business owners in unconnected regions can operate affordable nodes on our network and bring their community online while sharing the rewards —World Mobile Tokens,” the firm explains in its website.

At the time of writing, each WMT is trading at $0.1074 (roughly Rs. 8.90) shows CoinMarketCap.

Before rolling out its app in matured markets like the UK and the US, World Mobile conducted multiple beta tests. The app was initially introduced in Zanzibar, which is one of the islands in the Indian Ocean.

As per the company blog post, the app brings features including a Cardano wallet and a fiat on-ramp service to let users exchange fiat currencies to WMT.

Another special feature of this app is the Scan for Points functionality, that would turn the mobile device into a network scanner that can identify weaker web spots around the world and earn rewards in return.

The company is now exploring avenues to integrate its service with decentralised Artificial Intelligence (AI). To do so, it has partnered SingularityNET, a company that provides the AI service.

In the coming months, World Mobile will be launching its app across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.

The iOS version of the app is currently under development.

Meanwhile, the company that advocates connectivity and economic freedom for all, has called out the traditional mobile network operators for neglecting investments in remote places because the process would not be ‘profitable enough’.

Moto G84 5G India launch could happen very soon. The exact launch date is yet to be officially confirmed by Motorola, but a tipster suggests that the latest G-series phone will go official in the country next month. The tipster also states that the Moto G84 5G could come with a 10-bit pOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate. It is tipped to carry 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The tipster has also posted an alleged render of the handset, and it aligns with what a previous leak has already suggested.

A leak from last week indicated a hole-punch display design and in-display fingerprint sensor on the Moto G84 5G. It was tipped to debut in black, grey, and red colour options.

The Moto G84 5G is expected to come as a successor to the Moto G82 5G and Moto G73 5G. The former was unveiled in India in June last year with a starting price tag of Rs. 21,499 for the base 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. Moto G82 5G is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC, while Motorola’s G73 5G runs on an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 930 SoC. The Moto G82 5G has a triple rear camera setup led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor, whereas the Moto G73 5G flaunt a 50-megapixel dual rear camera setup.

Chandrayaan-3’s Lander Module Set for Automatic Landing Sequence, Says ISRO

ISRO on Wednesday said it is all set to initiate the Automatic Landing Sequence (ALS) for its ambitious third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3‘s Lander Module (LM) to touch down on the lunar surface this evening.

The LM comprising the lander (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan) is scheduled to make a touchdown near the south polar region of the Moon at 6:04 pm on Wednesday, a feat not achieved by any country so far.

“All set to initiate the Automatic Landing Sequence (ALS). Awaiting the arrival of the Lander Module (LM) at the designated point, around 17:44 Hrs. IST (5:44 pm),” ISRO said in a post on X.

“Upon receiving the ALS command, the LM activates the throttleable engines for powered descent. The mission operations team will keep confirming the sequential execution of commands,” it said.

After checking all the parameters and deciding to land, ISRO will upload the required commands from its Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) facility at Byalalu near here, to the LM, a few hours before the scheduled touchdown time.

According to ISRO officials, for landing, at around 30 km altitude, the lander enters the powered braking phase and begins to use its four thruster engines by “retro firing” them to reach the surface of the moon, by gradually reducing the speed. This is to ensure the lander doesn’t crash, as the Moon’s gravity will also be in play.

On reaching an altitude of around 6.8 km, only two engines will be used, while the two others will be shut down, aimed at giving the reverse thrust to the lander as it descends further, they said.

Then, on reaching an altitude of about 150-100 metres, the lander, using its sensors and cameras, would scan the surface to check whether there are any obstacles and then start descending to make a soft landing.

ISRO Chairman S Somanath had recently said the most critical part of the landing will be the process of reducing the velocity of the lander from 30 km height to the final landing, and the ability to reorient the spacecraft from horizontal to vertical direction. “This is the trick we have to play here,” he said.

After the soft landing, the rover will descend from the lander’s belly, onto the Moon’s surface, using one of its side panels, which will act as a ramp. On landing the lander may have to face the challenge of lunar dust due to the firing of onboard engines close to the moon’s surface.

The lander and rover will have a mission life of one lunar day (about 14 earth days) to study the surroundings there. However, ISRO officials do not rule out the possibility of them coming to life for another lunar day.

Samsung is gearing up to unveil the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ soon. The tablets have been spotted on Samsung’s Hungary page, suggesting an imminent launch. The design renders for the tablets in the report show the Galaxy Tab S9 FE sporting a single rear camera, while the Tab S9 FE+ sports a dual rear camera setup, with both tablets featuring an S Pen attached to their backs. The tablets are tipped to be available in Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + 5G options. Both tablets are said to come with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage configurations. Additionally, the tablets could debut in four colour shades — Graphite/Grey, Lavender, Mint, and Silver.

Previously, the tablets were also reported to debut in India. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE price in India was said to be set at Rs. 65,000 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant with 5G connectivity. The Wi-Fi variant with the same RAM and storage configuration, on the other hand, was tipped to cost around Rs. 63,000.

Other than these, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE’s specifications have also surfaced online. The tablet could be powered by an Exynos 1380 chipset. It will reportedly sport a 10.9-inch display and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ could feature a 12.4-inch screen.

US FTC to Probe Qualcomm’s Israeli Chipmaker Autotalks Aquisition Deal: Report

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is expected to open an in-depth probe on Wednesday of Qualcomm’s purchase of Israeli auto-chip maker Autotalks, Politico reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

In May, Qualcomm had said it would acquire Israel’s Autotalks, a maker of chips used in crash-prevention technology in vehicles, but had not disclosed the terms of the deal.

Autotalks, which makes dedicated chips used in the V2X communications technology sector for manned and driverless vehicles, would help Qualcomm expand its automotive-related business.

Last week, EU regulators had also said that the US chipmaker would have to seek EU antitrust approval for the planned takeover.

The EU competition watchdog said 15 EU countries, including France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden, had asked it to examine the deal.

Qualcomm, Autotalks and the FTC did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Earlier in August, Qualcomm had projected its fourth-quarter sales below market expectations as consumer spending on gadgets like smartphones remained stubbornly weak amid slowing global economic growth.

The US chipmaker said Autotalk’s technology would be incorporated into its assisted and autonomous driving product, called Snapdragon Digital Chassis.

Qualcomm said in September last year that its automotive business “pipeline”, or potential future orders, rose by more than $10 billion (roughly Rs. 82,100 crore) to $30 billion (roughly Rs. 2,46,100 crore) since its third-quarter results were announced in late July, as automakers increasingly equip their cars with driver-assistance systems.

The company, which has credited the jump to its Snapdragon Digital Chassis product, competes with Intel’s Mobileye Global and Nvidia for that slice of the market.

Chandrayaan-3 lunar landing: When and where to watch the live streaming

ISRO will be live streaming the lunar landing of Chandrayaan-3 on various social media channels. The event can be watched on ISRO’s official website, ISRO’s YouTube channel and the Facebook page of the organisation. The streaming will begin at 5:20 PM IST, around 30 minutes before the expected landing time.

Meanwhile, the live telecast of the landing will be available on DD National TV. Viewers can also watch the following space for the live streaming of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar landing. 

 

Chandrayaan- 3 was launched on July 14 at 2.35 PM IST onboard Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM-3) rocket from Sriharikota. If it successfully lands as planned tomorrow, India will become the first country to reach the uncharted south pole of Moon. 

ISRO officials earlier noted that the mission life of the Chandrayaan- 3 lander is one lunar day, which is equal to 14 Earth days. During the journey, ISRo has also released several pictures of the moon as captured by Chandrayaan-3.

Chandrayaan-3 Lunar Touchdown May Postpone if Health Parameters of Lander Module Found Abnormal: ISRO Official

As scientists at ISRO gear up for the much-awaited soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon‘s surface, the space agency may postpone the touchdown to August 27 in the event that health parameters of the lander module are found to be “abnormal”, a senior official has said. 

ISRO had planned the soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft at 06.04 pm IST on August 23.

The Moon mission was launched on July 14 at 2.35 PM IST from Sriharikota.

According to ISRO Space Applications Centre Director Nilesh Desai, the focus of the scientists would be on reducing the speed of the spacecraft above the lunar surface.

“The lander will try to land on the Moon’s surface from a height of 30km on August 23, and its velocity at that time will be 1.68 km per second. Our focus will be on reducing that speed because the Moon’s gravitational force will also play its part,” he told PTI in Ahmedabad.

“If we do not control that speed, there will be chances of a crash landing. If any health parameter (of the lander module) is found abnormal on August 23, then we will postpone the landing to August 27,” he said.

Responding to a query, Desai expressed hope that scientists would try to make the lander module land on the lunar surface successfully.

“The landing begins at 06.04 PM IST. Two hours before that, we will upload the commands. We will do an analysis of the telemetry signal and consider the conditions of the Moon. If any health parameter goes wrong, we will push it to August 27 and will try to land (on that day) if all goes well,” he said.

Observing that the final 17 minutes of the descent of the lander module are “very vital”, he said, “When we begin landing, four-engine thrusters will fire and reduce its speed.” “When the lander is at a height of 800m from the lunar surface, running on two engines, the speed will reach zero. From 800m to 150m, it (lander module) will descend vertically,” he said.

Data collected using the sensors on board the lander module will be very important and, on that basis, the landing site would be chosen, he said.

“We have sensors that would transmit exact information about the speed and distance of the lander from the Moon’s surface,” he said.

“Planning (safe-landing on the lunar surface) has been done keeping various scenarios in mind. We hope to land at 70 degrees latitude safely on the Moon’s South Pole on August 23,” he said.

To another query, he said,” A lot of upgrades have been made this time. Hardware systems are made robust. We will be successful (in soft landing on the lunar surface),” he said.

In case the mission shifts to August 27, he said, “we have chosen another landing site which is 400 km away from the main landing site.” Speaking about Russia’s Luna-25 mission that crash landed on the Moon, Desai said Moscow has a lot of resources and despite that, they failed.

“They were trying to proceed to the South Pole of the Moon. It is normal to be disappointed (since the mission failed). At ISRO, we have been working to make the Chandrayaan-3 mission a success for the past four years,” he said.

“The previous Chandrayaan-2 mission was a failure during soft landing. We have learned from our mistakes. (This time) we have made a lot of changes and added new sensors,” he said.

He said the scientists conducted a lot of field trials and carried out tests in various centres of ISRO.

“We are confident this time. We hope to succeed this time. People’s wishes are also with us.” he said.

Earlier in the day, ISRO said the mission is on schedule and it is smooth sailing for the spacecraft.

“The mission is on schedule. Systems are undergoing regular checks. Smooth sailing is continuing,” ISRO said.

Chandrayaan-3 lander module’s soft landing on the lunar surface would put India in the elite club of countries that have reached the Moon’s surface — the United States, the erstwhile Soviet Union and China.

VMware, Nvidia Partner to Develop Software Tools for Companies That Want Their Own AI

VMware on Tuesday said it has developed a new set of software tools in partnership with Nvidia aimed at businesses which want to develop generative artificial intelligence in their own data centers rather than the cloud.

VMware, which is close to being acquired by chip firm Broadcom in a $69 billion (nearly Rs. 5,73,000 crore) deal, makes software that corporations use to run their privately owned data centers. For more than two decades, VMware’s tools have been used by businesses to divvy up the computing power in central processor chips, which are the brains of traditional servers.

On Tuesday, the company released a new set of tools help designed to manage Nvidia chips, which dominate the market for AI systems that can read and write text in human-like ways. Companies like Microsoft, for example, are offering cloud-based systems that can read through a business team’s emails and chats and help generate a short update on a the team’s progress. 

Raghu Raghuram, VMware’s chief executive, told Reuters businesses are interested in the technology for everything from helping software developers write code faster to writing legal contracts more quickly. But some VMware customers want to do that work in their own data centers when the data is sensitive.

“Imagine a common use case: I want it to read all my legal contracts so I can generate new contracts faster. Obviously, that is going to be super, super secretive — you don’t want that data escaping anywhere,” Raghuram said.

VMware said the new tools will be available next year. The company declined to say how it will be priced, other than saying that the cost will be based on how many Nvidia chips the customer uses the software to manage.

X Could Soon Stop Displaying Headlines on News Articles, Says Elon Musk

Elon Musk is pushing to change how news links appear on his social media platform X, formerly called Twitter, in a move that could potentially undermine the ability of news publishers to draw audience. 

X is planning to remove the headline and text while retaining just the lead image from links to news articles shared on the platform, Musk said in a post late on Monday.

The move is likely an attempt by Musk to get users to spend more time on X and push them to opt the subscription service for more details.

It is not immediately clear how the move will impact advertisers on the platform that Musk claimed in July had 540 million monthly users. 

Currently news links come up on the timeline of users as “cards” along with an image, source address and an abridged headline. Such a packaging helps draw clicks and helps publishers gain readers.

But with the shortened links, users might end up writing some text along with their posts and eventually they could consider X’s premium service that allows a single post of up to 25,000 characters.

With the changes, Musk is pitching X as a more relevant platform for content creators. Premium subscribers can now post longer videos, their posts are shown higher up and they also receive a cut of ad sales.

The X head also announced a few days ago to do away with the ‘block’ feature soon. The block function on X allows a user to restrict specific accounts from contacting them, seeing their posts or following them. However, he mentioned that the users will still get the ability to block in DMs.
