Giants gifting replica Super Bowl rings to season-ticket holders

During the 2021 regular season, the New York Giants royally fumbled Fan Appreciation Day. Season ticket holders were gifted a free medium Pepsi during a game in December.

Making matters worse, it wasn’t one medium drink per ticket, it was one drink per account. No matter how many tickets you purchased, only one free drink was given.

The Giants made no public comments about it, even after fan backlash.

This year, it seems the Giants have learned from their mistake and plan to celebrate their 100th season in much better fashion. Instead of giving season ticket holders a free drink, they will be gifted with a set of replica Super Bowl rings and a double-sided commemorative ticket with one side replicating an original design from 1925.

Adam Schefter says, “season ticket accounts” and not “season ticket holders,” so it’s probably safe to assume it’s not one per ticket. In this case, though, that’s okay because this is a sick upgrade from a free medium Pepsi.

Whether it was the backlash to the free drink or wanting to commemorate their 100th season or both, the Giants’ front office is doing right by the fans this season.

What happens if Arsenal and Manchester City finish level on points?

For the tenth time, the Premier League title race is going down to the very last day. So who will be celebrating this weekend, the supporters of Manchester City or Arsenal?

If Manchester City defeats West Ham at home on Sunday, May 19, 16:00 BST, they would go two points clear at the top and become the first team to win four straight Premier League titles.

However, if Arsenal defeats Everton at Emirates Stadium in a match that takes place simultaneously and City loses, Arsenal will win the championship.

Should Arsenal lose, City will win the championship. The Gunners are the underdogs since no team has ever won the Premier League title on the last day of play after finishing second.

What are the Stats Saying?: Do Arsenal have a Chance?

Opta estimates that City is still the frontrunner with an 84% chance to win the Premier League, while Arsenal’s odds are at 16%.

If City had lost to Tottenham on Tuesday, the Gunners would have had an 81% chance of winning the championship, and a 75% chance if the game had finished in a draw.

According to Nielsen’s Gracenote head of analysis Simon Gleave, Manchester City has an 83.5% chance of winning the title compared to Arsenal’s 16.5%.

Prior to Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham, City led Arsenal in chances taken, 60% to 40%.

Gleave added: “Arsenal’s incredible run of 15 wins in 17 matches since the turn of the year would probably have been enough to win the league in most seasons, but Manchester City have proven formidable title race opponents and have won 15 of their 18 matches over the same period.”

What happens if Arsenal and Manchester City finish level on points?

If there is a tie, the league is determined by goal difference, followed by goals scored, most points earned in head-to-head play, and most goals scored away from home in the head-to-head record.

Arsenal’s goal difference of 61 is superior to City’s goal difference of 60.

Should the two clubs end tied, it would mean that City would need to draw, maintaining their current goal difference, and Arsenal would need to triumph, adding to their already impressive total.

On the last day of the season, don’t be too shocked if there are additional twists and turns

We’re in ‘goofy land’ with Daniel Jones hate

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones often gets the short end of the stick when it comes to his performance on the field since entering the league.

Jones is the quarterback — the face of the organization — and when that organization is failing, fans clamor for his head. It’s the same with any team, but it feels like Jones takes more of a beating than most NFL quarterbacks.

Retired Giants legend Carl Banks thinks it has gone too far now and that the entire charade is “goofy.”

Bob Papa brought it up in conversation when a tweet that had nothing to do with the Giants turned into a negative conversation about Jones — something that happens with remarkable frequency.

“I think we’re in goofy land right now. Let’s preface this: There’s a certain sector of folks that call themselves Giant fans that have made it their life’s work to (expletive) on Daniel Jones,” Banks said. “And it’s to the point — and they don’t even realize it — it’s to the point to where they’re so goofy with these takes, that it’s making Daniel Jones a sympathetic figure.

“And what it does is forcing people, which I’m seeing more and more of, forcing people to say, ‘Look, he didn’t have certain things, and there weren’t certain things in place, and he’s had several different coaching staffs.’ And so, this constant beating on a guy that you’re supposed to be a fan of his team, it’s just outright goofy. It’s so overdone right now. It’s… not exhausting, it’s tired.”

The immediate response to Banks’ comments only further solidified his point.

“Now it’s the fans’ fault,” a user wrote on the Big Blue Interactive forum. “DJ will go down as the worst quarterback ever to play the position but it has only been because of the coaches, the lack of weapons, the crappy OL, and now the belligerent fans. There is simply no place in professional sports for the victim card. What an utter embarrassment for this franchise.”

The worst quarterback to ever play the game? That’s a goofy statement.

Another user took things even further, likening Jones to a young murderer.

“Banks is a company man,” they wrote. “Found it funny when he sympathized with DJ for having multiple coaches. Almost like the classic (case) of sympathizing with the kid who killed his parents because he is an orphan.”

Once again, that’s goofy.

Others took direct aim at Banks on social media, peppering him with expletives and ultimately proving his point in the process.

It has gotten a little bit crazy with all of the hate toward Jones, but there’s no changing that until the Giants actually do something with him under center. Until then, the battle (and goofy hate) will rage.

Tom Brady respects Eli Manning, Michael Strahan: ‘I hate haters’

When the New York Giants stunned the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, it was one of the greatest upsets in sports history. The Giants entered as double-digit underdogs and beat one of the greatest teams the sport has ever seen.

It’s well documented that the Super Bowl losses still haunt NFL legend Tom Brady to this day. In fact, on multiple occasions, Brady has admitted he would trade two of his Super Bowl rings for the win in Super Bowl XLII.

What may surprise some is that as much as the seven-time Super Bowl champ hates the memories of those losses, he has nothing but respect for his opponents.

Brady was recently a guest on The Pivot Podcast and discussed losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl after not suffering defeat all season long.

“Then ’07 came, and we went undefeated which I thought, we were so talented, it was unbelievable. It was the most fun I ever had playing football,” Brady said. “And the fact that we can have the most fun we’ve ever had playing football and have the most success and then not win.

“I remember that was still a tough loss but you know, I give the other team a lot of credit, they beat us. So even when I see (Michael) Strahan and he rubs it in or Eli (Manning) and they joke, I’m like, ‘man, respect.’ Like, good for you. I’m happy when other people win. You know what I hate? I hate haters — that bothers me. Everyone’s just trying to win. When you win, give them the respect they deserve.”

Although Brady might be the greatest quarterback to ever play the game, he has certainly received his fair share of hate throughout (and even after) his career.

The respect he has for both Eli Manning and Michael Strahan is something we haven’t heard much of since the Super Bowl XLII matchup. However, as the phrase goes, “game recognizes game.”

The Giants certainly earned respect across the NFL that day.

The Powerful Storytelling Behind Alissa Pili’s 2024 WNBA Draft Look

With the start of the 2024 WNBA season underway, this year’s incoming rookie class is garnering tons of attention, not just for their serious game, but their off-court ventures—and personal style—too. Minnesota Lynx rookie Alissa Pili is one of the many highly anticipated young talents many will be following this season, and yet, the 6-2 forward’s impact has always gone beyond the box score: Pili, who is Samoan and Iñupiaq, a group of Indigenous Alaskans, is currently tied with Ruthy Hebard as the highest draft picks by an Alaskan, having gone 8th overall (Hebard was drafted by the Sky in 2020).

As a new pro, the former Utah star has continued to put her community, and heritage, at the forefront. From her very first arrival to the W—draft night, which was held back in April— Pili wore an elegant, custom gown from the brand AUTHMADE STADIUM, which was founded by Jason Vu in 2017. The brand has continued to redefine the intersection of fashion apparel and sports, and has created custom pieces for high-profile clients across hoops and entertainment, including Bad Bunny, Jayson Tatum and collaborations with NBA teams like the Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets.

AUTHMADE STADIUM primarily focuses on streetwear, making the creation of the gown a first for Vu. And yet, he’s not one to shy away from a challenge, especially not one that includes weaving together elements of storytelling, purpose, and celebrating AAPI communities, into his work. Vu started the process by getting to know Pili personally through texts, Zoom sessions, and sharing inspiration pics and sketches, all while hearing more about her story and her connection to her roots.

“Being a Vietnamese immigrant of AAPI descent and just being in an industry where more representation is needed as a designer, I think the story compels me,” Vu told WSLAM.

For the draft, Pili specifically wanted to wear a piece that represented who she was and where she came from, and Vu’s attention to detail is what was key in creating a look that complimented Pili’s personal style.

“Having that tribal print incorporated into the look was something that was extremely important to Alissa. She also wanted to showcase her tribal tattoos that are on both her right leg and left shoulder so incorporating a slit and drop shoulder into the look helped compliment her body and accentuate her tattoos,” he says.

For Pili, the final product was perfect: “My dress for the WNBA draft was a representation of my Polynesian culture,” Pili says. “I wanted to incorporate where I come from, with pride, and designer Jason Vu did an amazing job taking my vision and creating a beautiful masterpiece.”

Her draft night look was also the perfect introduction for W fans to get to know the rookie on a deeper level, all while paying homage to her community, family and upbringing. When asked what was most fulfilling, Vu echoes that exact sentiment. “[It was fulfilling] to be able to make a dress that not only she was proud of, but her family, her community in Alaska, and, the whole Polynesian community that follows her,” he says.

For AUTHMADE STADIUM, this is just the beginning. The brand just launched a new collection in collaboration with the WNBA and the NBA, “So I Can Dream.”
