Robert Griffin III gushes over New York Giants LB Kayvon Thibodeaux

The narrative on New York Giants outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux has changed in his second season as he now has some solid stats to illustrate what he can do on the field.

Former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Robert Griffin III, is one of the many experts around the game who have been impressed by Thibodeaux this season.

On Wednesday, head coach Brian Daboll was asked what area of Thibodeaux’s game specifically where he sees improvement in this year.

“Really all of them,” he said. “I’ve said this before, I’ve got a high amount of respect for Kayvon, glad we have him. He’s made progress since the day he walked in this door. He’s got good leadership traits about him, he’s a talented player, he loves the game of football, he’s a great teammate. I’m glad we have him. He’s really made a lot of progress and he always strives for more. He’s done a nice job for us.”

Many have been beating on Thibodeaux this year for no reason. Local radio hosts actually hung up on Giants Ring of Honoree and game analyst Carl Banks for defending Thibodeaux for his growth as a complete player.

Thibodeaux is tuning it all out and concentrating on his profession.

“Thanks for all the recognition but I’m not a victim and ‘prove people wrong’ narratives are old. I’m playing good football and constantly getting better. Let’s stop hanging on to old headlines,” Thibodeaux wrote on X.

Evan Neal returns to practice

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday following a stunning Week 14 upset of the Green Bay Packers.

Given that the Giants played on Monday night, they were limited to a walkthrough on Wednesday. They will have full practices on both Thursday and Friday before traveling down to New Orleans on Saturday.

The positive news opening Week 15 is that the team sustained no new injuries against Green Bay. Everyone on the active roster, right tackle Evan Neal included, participated in the walkthrough on at least a limited basis.

Unfortunately, there was also some negative news.

Daboll revealed that the 21-day window for tight end Darren Waller, who is currently on injured reserve (IR), was not opened. He did not practice on Wednesday and seems unlikely to play on Sunday against the Saints unless there is a drastic change in 24 hours.

“We’ll see where we’re at here, making progress. Getting closer,” Daboll said of Waller.

The Giants’ full (projected) Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: N/A

Limited participant: OL Evan Neal (ankle), CB Cor’Dale Flott (shoulder), NT Dexter Lawrence (hamstring), LB Azeez Ojulari (shoulder), DL A’Shawn Robinson (hamstring/finger)

Full participant: WR Parris Campbell (knee)

Potential must-plays from Giants-Saints game

AP Photo/Brett Duke

Saquon Barkley is almost matchup-proof at this point for two reasons: he’s healthy, and he’s the only respected and reliable weapon in the Giants’ arsenal. He is also the NFL leader in touches per game (21.6) and you know, where there’s an opportunity…

Barkley has logged in games of 24.1 and 30.0 FPS on DraftKings in two of the Giants’ last three games in which they had rookie Tommy DeVito under center.

The Saints, on the other hand, have fallen off a cliff when it comes to defending the run, allowing a league-high 191.1 yards per game on the ground over their last three.

One player New York Giants would steal from Saints

The New York Giants (5-8) will visit the New Orleans Saints (6-7) at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana this Sunday afternoon.

That, of course, provides those of us here at Giants Wire the opportunity to hypothetically steal from New Orleans’ roster in search of depth and/or talent upgrades for Big Blue.

In looking over the Saints roster, several players immediately stand out as potential steals: offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk, linebacker Demario Davis, cornerback Paulson Adebo, edge rushers Cameron Jordan and Carl Granderson, safety Tyrann Mathieu and more.

Even ex-Giants cornerback Isaac Yiadom is playing well in a limited role.

Ultimately, however, the debate was trimmed down to two players: versatile tight end Taysom Hill and wide receiver Chris Olave.

The obvious answer here is Olave, the second-year receiver out of Ohio State who has quickly become one of the NFL’s best. He would provide a top-end target for the Giants to couple with the likes of Jalin Hyatt and Wan’Dale Robinson. But passing over Hill isn’t that easy.

While Hill doesn’t fill one specific role and is somewhat of a gadget player, he is an extremely talented and versatile one. He can step in at quarterback, play tight end and wide receiver, he can run the ball, he can return kickoffs and he plays special teams.

The only thing Hill has not done in his NFL career is take a defensive snap and he could probably do that, too.

It’s for all of those reasons we’re stealing Hill from the Saints as opposed to Olave.

Hill’s versatility would allow the Giants to address personnel at other positions without losing the added insurance. And as we’ve seen this season, having a tight end on the roster who can step in and play quality quarterback would be a major plus. Not to mention, he’d be a fun chess piece for offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to work with.

What are your thoughts, Giants fans? Would you pick Taysom Hill or would you steal an entirely different player from the New Orleans Saints?

Best and worst performers vs. Packers

The New York Giants stunned the Green Bay Packers, 24-22, on Monday Night Football, snapping their primetime curse en route for a 5-8 record.

The three straight wins have the Giants back in the thick of the playoff hunt, just one game out with four weeks remaining. They could — assuming all the dominoes fall into place — leave Week 15 in control of their own destiny.

But before we look ahead, let’s look back.

Here’s a look at the best and worst performers, courtesy of PFF, from the Week 14 victory.

Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants stunned the Green Bay Packers on Monday night, snapping their long-standing primetime curse with a game-winning field goal as time expired.

Rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito delivered his magic yet again, hitting wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson with under 2:00 remaining in the fourth quarter on the biggest play of the game.

With the win, the Giants improve to 5-8 on the season and their three-game winning streak now has them just a single game back in the NFC Playoff hunt.

Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ most recent win.

Offensive snaps: 56
Defensive snaps: 68
Special teams snaps: 27

One year removed from ACL surgery (almost to the day), wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson played 44 offensive snaps and arguably had the most impactful game of his career. The 180 from where he was a year ago is remarkable and the youngster deserves his due.

Despite the struggles of both Cor’Dale Flott and Darnay Holmes, rookie cornerback Tre Hawkins did not take a single defensive snap on Monday.

Meanwhile, defensive linemen A’Shawn Robinson and Rakeem Nunez-Roches, who sports an interesting helmet design, continue to split snaps in the post-Leonard Williams world.
