Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Could Ditch Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, Tipped to Get an Exynos 2200 SoC

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE was reportedly going to launch later this year. The South Korean tech giant was expected to announce the Galaxy S23 FE device after the company launched the Galaxy S23 earlier this year. The Galaxy S23 series includes a base, a pro and an ultra model. There has previously been reports about Samsung skipping the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition device like it did with the Galaxy S22 FE. However, a new report suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE will launch in the market later this year.

According to a SamMobile report, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S23 FE smartphone in the fourth quarter of this year. However, it is expected to be powered by an in-house Exynos 2200 SoC instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, like the rest of the Galaxy S23 models.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is expected to feature a 50-megapixel primary lens, the report adds. It is also said to feature RAM variants of 6GB and 8GB and come with storage options of 128GB and 256GB. Like its predecessors, the Galaxy S21 FE and the Galaxy S20 FE, the Galaxy S23 FE is also likely to pack a 4,500 mAh battery with 25W fast charging support. Although all these details are based on reports and rumours, all information should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The South Korean tech giant was prompted to skip the Galaxy S22 FE device to allocate enough chips for the production of the Galaxy S22 Ultra handset. It was the year the phone manufacturing industry faced an unforeseen chip shortage, reeling in the after effects of COVID-19. Some reports previously claimed that Samsung will likely skip the Galaxy S23 FE model too.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is powered by an 5nm Exynos 2100 SoC and is backed by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W wired fast charging. Available in Graphite, Lavender, Olive, and White colour options, the phone comes in two storage variants — 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. The lower variant is priced at Rs. 39,999 in India, while the high-end model is marked at Rs. 43,999.

Galaxy S23 Series Gets Samsung Message Guard To Prevent Zero-Click Attacks: Report

Samsung Galaxy S23 series was recently launched as the South Korean conglomerate’s flagship smartphone lineup of the year. With Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Galaxy S23 Plus smartphones, the series has been making headlines for quite some time now. The latest development around the already launched flagship lineup from Samsung enhances its security capabilities. Samsung Galaxy S23 series has reportedly received the Samsung Message Guard feature, which aims to prevent malicious zero-click attacks through images sent to the smartphone. While the latest Samsung Galaxy S series phones have not reported of such issues yet, malicious attackers have been seen in the past carrying out such attacks.

According to a report by PhoneArena, Samsung has confirmed to introduce Smasung Message Guard to its latest Samsung Galaxy S23 series, which includes the vanilla Galaxy S23, the higher-end Galaxy S23 Plus, and the top-end Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphones. The pre-emptive security feature prevents attackers from exploiting zero-click images, which could give the attacker access and control to the user’s messages, gallery, and even extremely sensitive information like login credentials to banking applications.

However, the report mentions that Samsung emphasises on calling this a pre-emptive feature as no such zero-click exploit cases have been reported so far on its’ Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung Message Guard will utilise a sand-boxed environment to simulate receiving the image while checking whether it could contain any potentially harmful or malicious code that could be exploited by an attacker. The virtual quarantine would allow the system to detect any hazard residing in the components of the image and neutralise it to prevent serious damage to the user’s smartphone or sensitive data stored in it.

The feature comes pre-activated and hence, users would not be required to carry out any further steps in order to protect their phones from such potential zero-click exploits, added the report.

Currently, the feature is supported on Samsung Messages and Messages by Google application. However, the South Korean conglomerate is expected to update security feature to be compatible with third-party messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, and others, in the future.

Google released the Android 14 developer preview image on Thursday with several improvements and changes. Samsung’s next major OS update is expected to be One UI 6, based on Android 14. It is likely to feature Android 14’s improvements and changes when it arrives later this year, and succeed the Android 13-based One UI 5 update that has been rolled out to eligible devices. While Samsung is yet to announce plans for the purported One UI 6 update, a list of Samsung Galaxy smartphones that are eligible to receive the next major One UI update has surfaced online.

According to a report by SamMobile, the South Korean firm is likely to roll out its next One UI 6 update based on Android 14 to its phones that are 3 years old, as the company promises four years of OS updates for recently launched models. The list includes the Samsung Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 series, as well as the S21 FE handsets.

Samsung’s foldable handsets that are part of the Galaxy Z series, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, should also receive the update.

Several Galaxy A series phones including the Samsung Galaxy A73, Galaxy A72, Galaxy A52, Galaxy A53, A23, and a few Galaxy M series handsets as well as the Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro can be expected to receive the update.

Samsung started rolling out Android 13 to eligible Galaxy phones in late 2022. Several Galaxy smartphones and tablets have already been updated to Android 13-based One UI 5. The latest version of Google’s Android operating system comes with improved privacy and new customisation, improved battery life and performance. It has brought a new way to customise and edit the lock screen by adding photos and videos and combining several widgets into a single widget to save space on the home screen.

The One UI 5 update also features 16-preset colour themes that can be automatically generated based on the wallpaper as well an ‘object eraser’ tool (for select devices) allowing users to remove unwanted people, objects, shadows, and reflections from photographs.

The update also packs the new Bixby Text Call feature that allows the Bixby Voice assistant to answer calls and share the typed message with the caller. The first phone to get the One UI 5 update was the Galaxy S22 series, while the first Samsung handsets to receive the Android 14 update are likely to be the Galaxy S23 lineup.

The launch price of the Galaxy S23 series in India is in the range of Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 1.55 lakh per piece.

The company on Wednesday unveiled three models of Galaxy S23 smartphones, which come with high-end camera sensors.

Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with Samsung’s most advanced camera system, tailored for nearly any lighting conditions and engineered to render incredible detail. Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a new 200 MP Adaptive Pixel sensor that captures epic moments with incredible precision,” the statement said.

Samsung has priced the Galaxy S23 series 27-30 per cent higher compared to Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series is expected to be Samsung’s upcoming flagship series, which the company is all set to unveil on February 1 at a Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s alleged camera samples have now surfaced online, and a Twitter user has also compared them to shots taken from a Google Pixel 7 Pro. The leak includes the Ultra monikered upcoming Samsung flagship smartphone’s alleged camera sample shots in low-light conditions and shots taken on the smartphone’s dedicated zoom camera.

In a tweet shared on Twitter by Tipster Edwards Urbina that has now been removed, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra model was seen being unboxed sporting a Cotton Flower colour, according to a report by 9to5Google.

The Twitter user later went on to share another series of tweets that seemed to compare alleged shots taken on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone with ones taken on the Google Pixel 7 Pro. The shots are said to be taken using the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s selfie camera, rear camera in low-light conditions, and on the smartphone’s dedicated zoom camera, which is compared with similar conditions on the Pixel 7 Pro .

The first such tweet, a selfie shot allegedly taken on the Samsung Galaxy S23’s front-facing camera is compared with another selfie shot taken on the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Another tweet from Edwards Urbina, seems to compare macro shots taken on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with similar shots taken on the Google Pixel 7 Pro. Here, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s sensors seem to be able to capture more light and hence produce a brighter and more vibrant image as compared to the ones taken on the Pixel 7 Pro.

The Twitter user also seems to compare the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera performance in low-light conditions. Here, the Samsung Galaxy S23 seems to be coming up short as compared to the Pixel 7 Pro with the former producing darker noisier images than the latter.
