Suspect in Queens triple homicide reveals grisly details on slays: sources

The Queens man accused of fatally stabbing three female relatives provided grisly details of the triple slaying while being grilled by NYPD detectives in Virginia — and now awaits extradition to the Big Apple, law-enforcement sources said Monday.

Jabari Burrell, 22, waived his Miranda Rights and gave cops specific details on how he killed each of his victims, including a 65-year-old woman who died futilely trying to shield her wheelchair-bound 26-year-old stepdaughter, sources said.

Burrell allegedly stole the older woman’s 2004 Toyota Sienna after the Springfield Garden murders Friday and drove to Virginia, where he was nabbed Sunday when the vehicle ran out of gas on I-95.

An NYPD spokesman said police have begun the process to bring Burrell back to Queens.

“He’s waiting to be extradited, and charges remain pending at this point,” the rep said.

A representative for the Queens District Attorney’s Office said Burrell is facing three counts each of first-degree and second-degree murder and will also be charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Burrell is accused of fatally stabbing Hyacinth Brown-Johnson, 65, her 47-year-old daughter, Latoya Gordon — who is the suspect’s aunt — and Brown-Johnson’s stepdaughter, Patrice Johnson, cops said.

Police said three women were stabbed to death in their Queens home Friday.

Sources said the deadly rampage erupted after Burrell was smoking marijuana in the house and got into an argument — then snapped and turned on the women.

An alert was put out for the suspect after the crime, and Virginia State Police arrested him when his car conked out on the highway and notified the NYPD.

A rep for the Virginia State Police Department referred all questions about the case to the NYPD.

JonBenet Ramsey case may have link to unsolved 1997 Boulder rape: dad

A Colorado father claims Boulder cops may have missed an opportunity to catch JonBenet Ramsey’s killer — by ignoring an attack on his own young daughter which happened months after the infamous murder.

The dad claims a masked man dressed in black broke into his home on Sept. 14, 1997, snuck into his then-12-year-old’s daughter’s room, threatened and raped her.

The terrifying incident was foiled only because the girl’s mother heard voices, and came into the room to investigate, prompting the mysterious man to flee.

JonBenet, just 6, had been killed nearly nine months earlier. She lived less than two miles away, and the two girls went to the same dance studio, the father said.

In a chilling interview with The U.S. Sun, the dad recalled how the same type of cigarette butts — Camel Blue — were found outside both homes and said he begged local police to investigate.

But Boulder cops weren’t interested, he charged. Neither case has been solved.

The girl is only identified by The Sun with the pseudonym “Amy.”

The man said an intruder broke into his home and raped his daughter “Amy” nine months after Ramsey was killed in the same city.

“There are so many similarities between the two cases that I think there’s a very good chance it was the same person,” Amy’s dad told the outlet.

“The only difference is my daughter survived,” he added.

Boulder police were “dismissive” and “disinterested,” the dad alleged.

“They were completely uninterested,” he claimed. “They didn’t care about this at all … they would just lie, telling us they’d look into this or that — but they hadn’t.

The father said that Boulder police were “dismissive” of the potential link between both cases.

JonBenet Ramsey, a child beauty queen, was found dead in her family’s home on Dec. 26, 1996. Authorities said earlier this month they would launch a new probe into her killing with cold case investigators.

Amy awoke to see the stranger standing over her bed. He kept calling her name.

“I know who you are,” he repeated, before warning, “I’ll knock you out, shut up.”

He then sexually attacked her, her father recounted.

The dad hired a private investigator, who discovered the cigarette butts and found other possible links between the two cases — including nearly two dozen burglaries or trespassing reports in the area and background checks which showed possible suspects in Amy’s case once worked in JonBenet’s home — but police allegedly took no action.

“They were completely uninterested … they didn’t care about my daughter’s case and they didn’t even really care about the Ramsey case either,” he said.

Slain University of Idaho students had ‘defensive wounds’: police

Some of the University of Idaho students who were murdered while in bed had defensive wounds, police confirmed late Friday.

The latest details into the horrifying crime were determined through autopsies conducted Thursday that also found no signs of sexual assault on any of the victims, according the Moscow Police Department, which posted the findings to their Facebook page.

The slain students, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle, were found brutally murdered in their home on Kings Road in Moscow on Nov. 13. They were likely asleep at the time they attacked, the coroner said.

It’s not clear which of the victims had defensive wounds.

Authorities have said the murders appear to be targeted as they work to put together a timeline leading to the slaughter.

Goncalves and Mogen, both 21, had spent the night at a local bar called The Corner Club in downtown Moscow, between 10 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. on November 13th, according to police. They were last seen outside a local food truck around 1:40 a.m. before Ubering back to their home by 1:45 a.m.

Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, were two of the victims of the University of Idaho murder.

Chapin and Kernodle, both 20, spent the night at the Sigma Chi house on the University of Idaho Campus before returning to the home around the same time as Goncalves and Mogen, police said.

Chapin was previously reported as a resident at the home, however police confirmed Friday that he was only visiting.

Moscow police responded to a 911 call just before noon the next day where the four were found dead.

The four friends were likely attacked with an “edged weapon,” or a knife between 3 and 4 a.m., authorities said.

Police said Friday the victims’ two surviving roommates — Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen, both students at the university and friends of the victims who police said may be “key” to their investigation  — are not believed to be involved in the crime. They were upstairs and sleeping when the victims were killed.

A candlelight vigil was held for the four murdered Idaho students.
AP

Additionally, the “mystery man” seen with Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves outside of a food truck in surveillance footage before the killings is also not believed to be involved, cops said.

Police also confirmed that reports that the victims were tied and gagged “are not accurate.”

Their killer or killers were still on the loose as of Friday, although cops have said there was no imminent threat to the community. No suspects have been named and the weapon has not been located.

Contents of three dumpsters on King Road have been seized for potential evidence, cops said. Police said they have also been contacting local businesses to learn if a fixed-blade knife had recently been purchased

The identity of the 911 caller has still not been released. Police did not comment on why the 911 call was made hours after the time of the murders.

Investigators dust for fingerprints as they gather evidence in the back section at an off-campus home where four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death on Friday.

FBI agents with the Behavior Analysis Unit profilers have been called in to assist with the case. The agents are part of an elite squad generally used to get inside the minds of serial killers or on exceedingly bizarre cases.

Detectives have received nearly 500 tips in connection to the case, and conducted 38 interviews as of Friday.

“Right now, all options are on the table. We haven’t excluded anything yet,” Aaron Snell, Idaho State Police Communications Director, told Fox News Digital. “We have not come to any conclusion yet, and I know that’s frustrating to the public, but this is a very complex and difficult case.”

St. Louis man Waiel Yaghnam sentenced for Sweetie Pie’s murder plot, killing Andre Montgomery

ST. LOUIS — A former St. Louis insurance agent was sentenced Monday to three years in prison for helping a one-time reality TV star fraudulently obtain life insurance on a relative later shot to death in a murder-for-hire conspiracy.

Waiel Rebhi Yaghnam, 44, pleaded guilty to federal charges in July, admitting he conspired with James Norman on the policy on Norman’s nephew, Andre Montgomery Jr.

Norman and Montgomery both appeared on OWN TV’s “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” a reality show set in a restaurant founded by Montgomery’s grandmother. It ran five seasons starting in 2011.

Delphi murder suspect Richard Allen involved in 2015 incident

Before Libby German an Abby Williams were murdered in Delphi, Indiana, local sheriff’s deputies responded to the home of accused killer Richard Allen over a “domestic” incident.

Officers with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were sent at around 3:30 a.m. on June 18, 2015, to the home of Richard and Kathy Allen, according to records obtained by the station Fox 59.

Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said Allen, a dad-of-one CVS technician, was allegedly drunk, and his wife took him to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

According to the sheriff, responding deputies’ role during the incident was to “keep the peace,” and no arrests or charges followed.

Until his arrest last week on two counts of first-degree murder, Allen, 50, had no prior criminal record.

He has now been charged with two counts of murder related to the deaths of German, 14, and her friend Williams, 13, on Feb. 13, 2017, while the girls were taking a walk along the Monon High Bridge Train in Delphi.

Allen — who is being held with no bond — has pleaded not guilty ot the charges and will go to trial in 2023.

The girls’ bodies were discovered the following day half a mile from the trail. Their causes of death have never never been made public and prosecutors have deliberately withheld details of the case from the public to aid their investigation.

A video captured by Libby German on the day she and Williams were killed showed a man walking near them along a trail.

A grainy video recovered from Libby German’s phone showed a man in a blue jacket walking along the railroad bridge. In the audio accompanying the footage that was released by cops, a man’s voice is heard saying: “down the hill”. Only nine seconds of the 43 second video were released by cops.

Evidence against Allen worker has also been temporarily sealed to avoid jeopardizing the case, according to the police.

The Post reported Wednesday that plainclothes officers conducted a day-long search of Allen’s property about 10 days before his arrest, which came as a shock to those who knew him.

A fire pit in Richard Allen’s backyard in Delphi, Indiana, attracted the attention of law enforcement searching the property.

Neighbors said the officers spent about 12 hours scouring the property and paying an especially close attention to a fire pit located next to a shed in the yard.

Man falsely imprisoned for 30 years dies months after release

A Tennessee man was freed after serving 30 years in prison for a crime he did not commit –then died just a few months after his exoneration and release.

Claude Francis Garrett, 66, passed away in his sleep on Oct. 30, less than six months after he walked out of Riverbend Maximum Security Institution for the last time, his friend revealed Wednesday.

He had been convicted of the arson murder of his girlfriend, Lorie Lee Lance, in 1993, but was let out in May when the evidence that led to his conviction was debunked.

“Over the past 5 months, Claude relished his freedom,” friend Liliana Segura wrote after his passing. “He enjoyed every moment with his daughter, Deana, and especially his grandson, who he absolutely adored.”

Garrett was 35 years old when he watched Lance, whom he planned to marry, perish in a fire at their Old Hickory home on Feb. 24, 1992. Investigators later alleged that scorch patterns at the scene suggested the fire was set deliberately. A jury sentenced him to life in prison after less than 3 days of deliberation.

After years of appeals, Davidson County Criminal Court Judge Monte Watkins ruled on May 6 that there was “clear and convincing” proof that the so-called evidence of arson had since been debunked as junk science.

Speaking to the Tennessean in May, Garrett’s daughter Deana Watson said she was elated but nervous about his homecoming.

“The plan is that he hangs out with me for a while and then we figure it out,” she told the outlet. “We had a whole conversation about cell phones and how they work. We will help him reintegrate into society.”

In the letter published by the Daily Star, Segura said that Garrett was hoping to hold the state accountable for his ordeal.

“Claude had plans. He wanted the state to be held accountable for his wrongful conviction,” she wrote. “He wanted compensation. It is unfathomable to me that the people most responsible for stealing so much of his life will never have to confront what they did, that they will outlive him.”

Queens man Martin Motta pleads guilty to WWI vet cold-case slaying

A Queens man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the killing and dismemberment of a World War I veteran more than 45 years ago.

Martin Motta, 75, entered a guilty plea Tuesday in the gruesome cold-case slaying of George Clarence Seitz, whose partial remains were discovered in the backyard of a Richmond Hill home in March 2019, the Queens District Attorney’s office announced.

Prosecutors said Motta fatally stabbed Seitz in the head after stealing approximately $7,000 to $8,000 from him in 1976.

Seitz’s body had been dismembered at the neck, shoulders and hips, according to the Queens DA’s office.

Investigators spent two years working to identify the skeletal remains — a pelvis and partial torso — that were buried under concrete before they were able to positively identify Seitz as a match through DNA tests with the help of the FBI.

George Clarence Seitz went missing on Dec. 10, 1976.
Queens DA

“This long-cold case marks the first successful application in New York City of forensic genetic genealogy,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “No matter how much time has passed, we will use every tool at our disposal to achieve justice.”

Seitz, who was 81 at the time of his death, had gone missing on the morning of Dec. 10, 1976.

George Clarence Seitz’s remains, consisting of a pelvis and partial torso, are dug up.
Queens DA

He was last seen leaving his home in Jamaica, Queens to go get a haircut. Investigators learned that Seitz was a regular customer of Motta at the barbershop and linked him to the murder through witness interviews and record searches across five states, according to the Queens DA.

Motta, of Jamaica, is expected to be given 20 years in prison at his sentencing on Nov. 7, according to the Queens DA.

“For the gruesome murder of a World War I veteran, the defendant eluded arrest for more than 46 years,” Katz said.  “Now he is headed to prison thanks to the collaboration between the NYPD and our Cold Case Unit.”

Slain Bristol police officers will be laid to rest at joint funeral at Conn. stadium

A joint funeral will be held at a local stadium this week for the two Connecticut cops gunned down after being lured to a home by a bogus 911 call.

The memorial services for Bristol police Sgt. Dustin DeMonte and Officer Alex Hamzy will take place at the Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford on Friday at 11 a.m., NBC News Connecticut reported Sunday.

A visitation for Hamzy will be held Wednesday starting at noon at the Lyceum in Terryville, the funeral home announced online. A wake for DeMonte has not been released.

The two veteran cops were ambushed Wednesday as they responded to a domestic disturbance call — only to be gunned down by Nicholas Brutcher, who was waiting outside with an AR-15-style assault rifle, police said.

A third officer, Alec Iurato, 26, was wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

The officers were lured to the home after receiving a fake 911 call, cops said.

A joint funeral will be held this week for slain Bristol, Connecticut police officers Alex Hamzy (left) and Dustin Demonte at a stadium in East Hartford.

Brutcher, 35, a beer-guzzling divorced dad with an affinity for guns, was shot and killed at the scene, while his brother, Nathaniel, was wounded and transported to the hospital.

The two brothers had gotten into a brawl at a local bar earlier in the night, but Connecticut State Police have yet to establish a motive for the slayings.

DeMonte, 35, is survived by his pregnant wife, Laura, and two daughters, Phoebe and Porter. Hamzy, 34, a Bristol native, is survived by his wife, Katie, his parents and two sisters.

The cops were remembered as “remarkable men” at a vigil Friday.

Suspect in South Carolina quintuple homicide arrested after police chase

A man suspected of murdering five people at a South Carolina home was arrested following a police chase in Georgia, officials announced Tuesday.

James Douglas Drayton, 24, admitted to shooting five people dead in the town of Inman over the weekend, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Police responded to a death call at the Bobo Drive home around 7:45 p.m. Sunday night. At the residence, they discovered four people dead:  Thomas Ellis Anderson, 37; Adam Daniel Morley, 32; Mark Allen Hewitt, 59; and Roman Christean Megael Rocha 19.

A fifth victim, identified Tuesday as James Derek Baldwin, 49, was transported to Spartanburg Medical Center and underwent surgery before he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said they believe they were shot around 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

“This is the largest single murder we’ve had in Spartanburg County,” Sheriff Chuck Wright told reporters during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Drayton was arrested in Georgia Monday after an armed robbery and possible kidnapping.
Spartensburg County Sheriff’s Of

Police said all five victims, who were not related, had been living at the house at the time. Drayton had been living at the house for about two weeks, according to investigators.

While it’s not clear what led to the massacre, police “obtained a full confession from Drayton about this incident,” the sheriff’s office said. Drugs may have been the motive.

“He confessed to the crime,” Wright said. “He basically said he’d been hearing voices. Not sure what that means for him but he knew he’d been using meth and had been up for like four days. Hadn’t slept in four days, probably not thinking.”

Drayton was arrested Monday in Burke County Georgia — about 140 miles south of Inman.

Burke County deputies spotted the vehicle Drayton had stolen from the South Carolina home on Monday morning after responding to armed robbery and possible kidnapping, Wright said.

Drayton allegedly pointed a gun at the cashier and robbed a convenience store in Hephzibah.

The five victims were found Sunday night at a home in Inman, South Carolina. None of the victims were related.
WYFF

As officers pursued Drayton as he fled, he reached speeds of 80 mph until he crashed the car, according to an arrest report obtained by WYFF. Drayton then tried to flee on foot but was quickly detained.

“These men and women didn’t deserve what they got,” Wright said. “They did not get justice at all. And just because we have someone in custody doesn’t make things better for these families. It just means that they don’t have to wonder.”

Drayton is charged with five counts of murder and four counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The sheriff’s office said it’s not yet clear if he will be extradited from Georgia.
