Elden Ring Has Sold Over 23 Million Copies, Bandai Namco Confirms

Elden Ring, the acclaimed fantasy RPG from FromSoftware, has sold over 23 million copies since its release in 2022, Bandai Namco has confirmed. The publisher revealed the sales figure in wake of the gameplay trailer and release date reveal of the game’s first major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, on Wednesday. Exactly a year ago, Bandai Namco had announced that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies worldwide.

According to Bandai Namco, Elden Ring’s total sales figure comprises both the physical version and the downloadable digital release across all platforms, including Steam on PC. The RPG is developer FromSoftware’s highest selling title comfortably, beating Dark Souls 3 (released in 2016), which sold over 10 million units (as confirmed by the studio in 2020). In fact, Elden Ring is inching closer to the total sales number for the Dark Souls series, which has shipped over 27 million copies.

The 23 million sales figure is likely to grow this year with the launch of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the first major story expansion for the base game. Bandai Namco revealed the first gameplay trailer for the DLC and confirmed its June 21 release date on Wednesday. The three-minute-long trailer showcased a new setting, new enemies and bosses, and delivered plenty of hints for fans to pick apart.

Shadow of the Erdtree requires the base game to be playable and will also be available in a bundle that packages Elden Ring and the upcoming expansion in a single offering. Meanwhile, Elden Ring remains popular on Steam, where it is still recording a concurrent player count of around 50,000 at the time of writing.

Back in February 2023, Bandai Namco had confirmed that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies worldwide in a year since its release. “The companies would like to thank everyone who has played this game from the bottom of their hearts, and will continue to develop various ways for the fans to enjoy the world of ELDEN RING in the future,” the publisher had said in a statement. Elden Ring released 25 February, 2022, across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X and went on to win the Game of the Year title at The Game Awards 2022.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Sets June 21 Release Date, Gameplay Trailer Reveals New Story, Map, Bosses

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the first major expansion for the acclaimed action RPG, received a gameplay trailer, detailing a new story, characters, and a new map, and a release date. The DLC will launch June 21 across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X, with preorders for the game now live across all platforms. Shadow of the Erdtree, which will focus on the story of Miquella, brother of Malenia, is FromSoftware’s largest expansion to date and will task players with uncovering a new mystery.

The DLC will take place in the Land of Shadow, a new region that will take players beyond the Lands Between. “The Land of Shadow. A place obscured by the Erdtree.
Where the goddess Marika first set foot. A land purged in an unsung battle.
Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame. It was to this land that Miquella departed. Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage. Of all things Golden. And now Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord,” FromSoftware’s description reads.

The three-minute-long gameplay trailer, though cryptic as ever, showcased plenty of new enemies, bosses and the new setting, giving fans enough fodder to come up with theories for the central mystery. The trailer opens with the withered arm of Miquella dangling from his cocoon. “Come, now. Touch the withered arm, and travel to the realm of shadow,” the trailer later says, suggesting that the new Land of Shadow region will be accessed by touching or holding Miquella’s arm.

The trailer also introduces a new villain, Messmer the Impaler, who seems to be the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Messmer rules the Land of Shadow, which has been left in ruin from his flame. FromSoftware has not revealed any details about the new character, but it likely won’t be long before fans pick apart the trailer and find all the hidden clues.

Shadow of the Erdtree will feature a chunky new story, taking players on a new adventure through the Land of Shadow. “Guided by Empyrean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot,” the DLC’s story description reads. “In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.”

The Land of Shadow is a completely new world within Elden Ring, separate from the Lands Between from the main game. While the size of the new map is yet unknown, FromSoftware says the “vast” new region will allow players to seamlessly travel back and forth between different sections. Just like the Lands Between, the new map will be diverse, with players encountering new mysteries, enemies, situations and dangerous dungeons.

In addition to new lore, enemies and bosses, the expansion will bring new weapons, equipment, weapon skills and magic previously not seen in Elden Ring, with FromSoftware promising a deeper RPG experience.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be available separately in a standard edition and a Premium Bundle that includes a digital artbook and the original soundtrack. The expansion will also be available as part of a bundle with the base game. And finally, there’s a Collector’s Edition, available in limited quantities, which includes the expansion, a 46cm statue of “Messmer the Impaler,” an art book and a download voucher for the original soundtrack.

Shadow of the Erdtree is currently available for pre-order across Steam, PlayStation and Xbox storefronts, with a release set for June 21. Bear in mind that the base game would be required to play the expansion.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Gets a Mech-Crunching Gameplay Trailer; System Requirements Revealed

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon just got a gameplay trailer, confirming leaks from earlier this week, that it is indeed releasing on August 25. Marking the first new release in the AC franchise since 2012, the new footage offers a glimpse at the various mech types zipping around, their attack patterns, and key story details. Despite the naming scheme, producer Yasunori Ogura confirmed in an IGN interview that Armored Core 6 will feature a brand-new story that isn’t directly linked to previous titles. Publisher Bandai Namco also unveiled pricing details and system requirements for its next game.

While certainly not a souls-like title, developer FromSoftware has used its years of experience in the genre to revitalise Armored Core VI for a modern era. It is set on a devastated dystopian planet, Rubicon 3, which was reduced to flames and ashes after an unstable energy source called Coral went out of control. Fifty years after the catastrophe, the rare substance surfaces once again, causing extra-terrestrial corporate forces to send out their mechs in an attempt to invade the planet and acquire Coral. Yes, it’s structured quite like Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic Dune. The forces are at war with the natives who resist the advances, and our character, a lone AC pilot is thrust into that war.

The Armored Core 6 gameplay trailer is flush with mech-crunching action, as our AC is seen sliding around the map via thrusters and gunning down enemies while airborne. Assault Boost is a new button-activated feature that instantly switches between long-range to close-range melee fighting modes by closing down the distance. After unloading a barrage of missiles to stagger the enemy mech, you can swoop in and whip out the pulse blade to score a direct hit. Speaking of stagger, FromSoftware has added a version of Elden Ring’s riposte mechanic, where if an AC takes too many hits over a short period, its guard will fall, leaving them vulnerable to a massive attack. You could argue it’s more similar to the deflect mechanic in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but this is solely offence-oriented rather than counter.

FromSoftware is lauded for its ingenious boss designs and Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon promises a lot of them “Huge combat helicopters, heavily armoured mobile turrets, and unmanned heavy demolition machinery that’s programmed to indiscriminately crush intruders,” game director Masaru Yamamura revealed in a PlayStation blog post. “Armored Core VI will offer a number of explosive battle experiences that challenge players to fight against the odds and overcome these ginormous, more abnormal mechs.” The gameplay loop, however, will be focused on customisation — assembling mechs and swapping out parts to fare better in battles, but it isn’t limited to damage numbers or other perks.

“The leg part, which controls the AC’s movement — you could have tank-type legs that can perform drift, and this changes the very basic behaviour and traversal type of the AC,” producer Ogura explained in an IGN interview. But it’s not entirely combat-heavy, as Armored Core VI’s main campaign will have you scour around town to recover data logs and perform other side activities.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon PC system requirements

FromSoftware also dropped the minimum system requirements for Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, which is slightly harsh on the CPU — demanding at least an Intel Core i5-8600K or an AMD Ryzen 3 3300X. You’d also need 65GB of storage space, which is significantly low when compared to most recent AAA releases.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon ‘Minimum’ PC requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5-8600K or an AMD Ryzen 3 3300X
  • Graphics (GPU): Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 (4GB) or AMD Radeon RX 480 (4GB)
  • RAM: 12GB

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon price and editions

On PC (Steam), Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is priced at Rs. 2,499 for the Standard Edition. The Deluxe Edition is only slightly more expensive — Rs. 2,699, and comes with a digital artbook and soundtrack. As for the pre-order bonus, you receive a ‘TENDERFOOT’ customisation option, in addition to early part and emblem unlocks. FromSoftware notes that the latter items can be unlocked through game progression as well.

For PlayStation owners, AC6 will set you back by Rs. 3,999/ $59.99 for the Standard Edition, and Rs. 4,799/ $69.99 for the Deluxe one. Standard Edition prices on Xbox are the same, but the Deluxe Edition costs Rs. 4,974, for some odd reason.

Publisher Bandai Namco has also listed Collector’s and Premium Collector’s Editions on their official website, which include some physical accessories such as a figurine, a steelbook, a hardcover artbook, stickers, and more. They are priced at $229.99 (about Rs. 18,812) and $449.99 (about Rs. 36,807), respectively.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon releases August 25, across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Elden Ring’s First Major Expansion ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ Announced: All Details

FromSoftware has announced the first major expansion for Elden Ring. In a tweet, the studio confirmed that the DLC is currently in development and that it’s called ‘Shadow of the Erdtree.’ The Game of the Year winner at The Game Awards 2022 celebrated its one-year anniversary on February 25, leaving fans disappointed when no new content was revealed. Three days later, the company has unveiled key artwork, which includes several hints for what to expect from the expansion. A blog post is also out, confirming that Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be out on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. FromSoftware, however, has not specified a launch date for the upcoming expansion.

“The follow-up report is still a little ahead, but I would appreciate it if you could look forward to it,” a direct Google translation of the Japanese Elden Ring blog post reads. As with most announcements, FromSoftware continues to remain cryptic in its approach, offering nothing but a scenic imagery, featuring an open field with two intertwined trees in the distance, whose roots are presumably corrupted by Deathblight, a status effect that impales enemies to death in the game. Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice one of the trees is severely damaged and leaking some golden sap, resulting in its leaves and branches losing their glow and turning dark. On the far right, you see a mysterious blonde figure mounted atop a horse that closely resembles Torrent, the spectral, summonable steed our maiden Melina grants access to in the main game.

It has been widely speculated through data mining and theories that the Elden Ring DLC will be focused on Miquella in some capacity. Cursed to remain young forever, he set out to create the Haligtree to grow into an adult and in the process, get rid of the rot that devours his Empyrean sister Malenia. However, before he could complete the task, his uncle Mohg, Lord of Blood kidnapped and placed him at the centre of the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, hoping to rule together. Players might recognise a weird-looking cocoon/ egg in this arena, within which Miquella is in a deep slumber. While there is no official confirmation, we can speculate that the intertwined trees in question is the Haligtree, while the character itself is quite possibly Miquella, given the hairstyle consisting of long braids and the loose outfit. Between the two lies a vast open field, populated with ghostly gravestones that seem to have some heavy lore implications.

Right around The Game Awards 2022, Elden Ring received its first minor DLC — the Colosseum — focused on PvP content, opening doors to select arenas so players could partake in combat. Last week, publisher Bandai Namco confirmed that Elden Ring had sold over 20 million copies worldwide in under a year. For comparison, their 2016 title Dark Souls 3 took four years to cross the 10 million mark. In a recent interview, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged Elden Ring’s success but claimed that it won’t affect what kind of projects they work on next. “We basically keep creating the game that we want to create, and that’s our policy. It’s very simple,” he said.

When ready, Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will be out on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
