Michael Irvin under police investigation over undisclosed ‘allegation’

Michael Irvin is the subject of a police investigation in Texas over an allegation that has not been specified.

The Allen (Texas) Police Department confirmed the news to ProFootballTalk, declining to clarify the nature of the accusation.

“There has been an allegation, but we are not prepared to release any details at this time due to our investigation being in its very early stages,” the police department told the outlet.

Nevertheless, Irvin’s attorney, Levi McCathern, vehemently denied that his client did anything wrong.

“He didn’t do anything wrong or inappropriate,” McCathern told ProFootballTalk.

The lawyer continued to emphasize that there was “absolutely no truth” to the allegation.

There have been a number of times where Irvin has faced allegations of improper behavior that have not ended up in a conviction.

McCathern predicted that this case, as happened with previous allegations, “will turn out to be much ado about nothing.”

NFL Media spokesperson Alex Riethmiller told The Post, “We’re aware of the report but don’t have any additional details at this point.”

Last year, Irvin was sent home from his broadcasting roles during Super Bowl week with NFL Network and ESPN after the Cowboys legend was accused of inappropriately propositioning a Marriott hotel worker.

Irvin maintained his innocence in this situation, saying he was being “railroaded” by a false accusation.

McCathern, the attorney, spoke about being upset that video of the incident was taking a long time to be released.

“I’m mad as hell that they’re hiding this stuff that is so relevant to my client’s livelihood,” said McCathern, a Dallas-based attorney.

“I think it is terrible they’re doing that. I don’t know what’s on the video. None of us have gotten to see it. But I sure think that, at a minimum, Michael has got a right to see the video.”

Irvin filed a lawsuit against Marriott, and the suit reached an undisclosed settlement.

Irvin was reinstated to NFL Network right before this season began.

NBA suspends Miles Bridges for 30 games over domestic violence incident

The NBA suspended Miles Bridges for 30 games on Friday, following an investigation into domestic violence allegations against the Charlotte Hornets forward.

Bridges was arrested on June 29 after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend on June 27, causing multiple injuries in the presence of their two children.

The 24-year-old pleaded no contest to one felony charge as part of a deal with prosecutors on Nov. 3 that saw two other felony counts dismissed.

The NBA considered 20 games of his suspension already served, though Bridges did not play this season as an unrestricted free agent without a contract after his arrest and plea.

He will serve the final 10 games at the beginning of the 2023-24 season if he signs a contract.

The NBA’s investigation included the involved parties, as well as third-party witnesses, and “consulted with a group of domestic violence experts who provide the league with guidance in such cases,” the league said in a release.

Bridges was sentenced to three years of probation — including weekly drug testing — as well as 100 hours of community service, domestic violence counseling and parenting courses.

Mercyhurst’s Carson Briere charged in wheelchair pushing incident

Mercyhurst hockey player Carson Briere is facing three misdemeanor charges stemming from a video of him and another athlete pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down a set of stairs inside a bar.

Erie, Penn. police filed charges of criminal mischief, criminal conspiracy to commit mischief and disorderly conduct against Briere, the son of Flyers interim GM Daniel Briere.

Patrick Carrozzi, a senior on the Lakers lacrosse team, faces the same charges.

The student-athletes were caught on surveillance video at Sullivan’s Pub and Eatery in Erie, pushing a wheelchair owned by double amputee Sydney Benes down a set of stairs on March 11.

According to police, Briere, 23, and Carrozzi posed a potential danger to anyone coming up the stairs, while also creating a hazardous condition by blocking the staircase.

They also damaged the chair’s left brake handle, broke the right arm rest’s plastic molding, bent a rear handle and caused the wheels to drag when moving forward, according to Benes.

A GoFundMe to help Benes fix her chair — she says it was purchased a year ago for $2,000 — has raised $8,811 as of Monday evening, though she does not plan on keeping it.

“I swear I really don’t wanna keep a cent of the donated money, I’d much rather give it to those who need it,” she said, before later adding she’ll keep enough to repair her wheelchair.

Benes also said bouncers at the bar forced Briere to apologize, though she found his attempt “insincere.”

Mercyhurst has since suspended Briere and two other student-athletes, while Sullivan’s banned the hockey player from the premises.

“I am deeply sorry for my behavior on Saturday,” Briere, a junior, said in a statement after video of the incident went viral on social media.

“There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment.”

Danny Briere, who was promoted to run the Flyers after Chuck Fletcher was fired two weeks ago, said he was shocked to see his son’s actions and called them “inexcusable,” while saying his son “accepts full responsibility for his behavior.”

Mercyhurst previously released a statement saying the actions displayed in the video fall short of the school’s “belief in the inherent dignity of each person,” adding the school’s “tradition also reminds us that students and all people who make poor choices deserve opportunities to learn, change behaviors and atone for harmful actions.”

Carson Briere previously was dismissed from Arizona State’s hockey club in 2019 for what the school called a violation of team rules.

Ex-NFL star Vontae Davis arrested for DUI after alleged crash

Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis was arrested Saturday by the Florida Highway Patrol and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to Broward County arrest records.

Davis had a bond amount listed at $500, per the record.

Though there’s only one DUI charge listed, Fox Sports 640’s Andy Slater reported Sunday morning that Davis “allegedly crashed into a disabled car on the side of the highway, which then hit a person next to it.” Officers then allegedly found Davis sleeping, and when they asked why he was sleeping on the shoulder, Davis replied, “I was tired.”

Slater, citing anonymous sources, reported that Davis claimed he was driving home from a club, where he had two mixed drinks. The person Davis allegedly struck was taken to a hospital with “multiple injuries,” according to Slater.

Davis, a former first-round pick of the Dolphins in 2009, spent his first three seasons in Miami before a 2012 trade sent him to the Colts. He proceeded to spend the bulk of his remaining career with Indianapolis, though he made a brief — and controversial — cameo with the Bills in 2018 by signing as a free agent in the offseason, but then retiring at halftime of the season opener.

“This isn’t how I pictured retiring from the NFL,” he wrote in a statement published on the NFL’s Twitter account the next day. “But today on the field, reality hit me and hard. I shouldn’t be out there anymore.”

Davis was selected to consecutive Pro Bowls in 2014 and ’15, a pair of seasons when he combined for eight interceptions, 34 passes defended, and two forced fumbles. He’s the brother of former star tight end Vernon Davis.
