The Met Gala is reawakening fashion, but not for everyone.

The first Monday of May is the biggest night in fashion, and surprisingly, some of the most beloved stars have yet to make their debut on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The May 6 extravaganza will pay homage to humankind’s relationship to the natural world through the lens of fashion with the latest exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” And the night will surely be a spectacle as Bad Bunny, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Lopez will co-chair the event alongside Vogue‘s Anna Wintour. 

Although celebrities like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Robert Pattinson and Dwyane Wade have continued to shine on the Met carpet year after year, several haven’t attended. Among the most surprising are Hollywood giants like Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio. Artists like Adele, Sam Smith and Dolly Parton also skipped the gala.  

But that doesn’t mean it’ll never happen. After all, Paris Hilton was sliving her best life at her first-ever Met Gala in May 2023, which paid tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld.

You never forget your first time…at the Met Gala.

Just ask Billie Eilish, who made her debut at the annual star-studded fashion event at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in May 2021.

“It’s nuts,” the singer, who turned heads at the event with a Marilyn Monroe-like blonde hairstyle and strapless peach Oscar de la Renta gown, said on the Howard Stern Show that December. “It’s famous people famous people-ing.”

When you get so many celebs together showcasing extraordinary fashion styles, it’s not easy to stand out. “Everybody’s just embarrassed and insecure about what they’re doing and saying,” Billie said. “It was amazing though. It just was beautiful in there.”

But her favorite part is the lack of fangirling. “What’s nice about other people that are in the same kind of world that you’re in,” she explained, “is they’re not getting their phone out and shoving it in your face because they don’t want that themselves and that is really relieving.”

Billie did go on to attend the two subsequent Met Galas and even snuck in an epic bathroom selfie with fellow celebs at the 2023 event.

Who is hosting the 2024 Met Gala?

The cohosts joining Anna Wintour this year are Bad Bunny, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez and Chris Hemsworth. This will commemorate the Marvel actor’s first time at the annual event, while it marks Bad Bunny’s third appearance, the Euphoria actress’ sixth and J.Lo’s 14th.

How long with the fashion exhibit be at the Metropolitan Museum?

The exhibit runs from May 10 through Sept. 2.

According to the MET, the show will feature approximately 250 garments and accessories all connected visually through nature.

So, expect to be transported, as the exhibit includes several sensory capabilities, like smelling hats with floral notes or touching walls embossed with embroidered fabrics. And prepare to gaze upon the “illusion technique known as Pepper’s ghost,” the museum website states, which will display how the “hobble skirt” restricted women’s strides in the early 20th century.

All in all, the exhibit will span over 400 years of fashion history and showcase designs by Schiaparelli, Dior, Givenchy and others. And the pieces that are too fragile to ever be worn again—such as a Charles Frederick Worth gown from 1877—will be viewed through “animation, light projection, AI, CGI and other forms of sensory stimulation,” the museum website reads.

“By appealing to the widest possible range of human senses,” Andrew said in a press release, “the show aims to reconnect with the works on display as they were originally intended—with vibrancy, with dynamism, and ultimately with life.”

The film community has lost a beloved star.

Bernard Hill, who played Captain Edward Smith in Titanic and King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, has died. He was 79.

The British actor passed away early May 5, his agent confirmed to the BBC, adding that the star’s fiancée Alison and his son Gabriel were with him at the time. The cause of his death was not released.

Hill, originally from Manchester, England, began his onscreen acting career in his native U.K. in the late ’70s, appearing mostly on British TV shows such as Crown Court. He got cast in more films in the ’80s and ’90s, with roles in movies such as Gandhi and The Ghost and the Darkness, which also stars Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas, before starring with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in James Cameron‘s Oscar-winning film Titanic, released in 1997.

In 2002, he joined Dwayne Johnson in the movie The Scorpion King, playing Philos, and made his debut as King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the second film in Peter Jackson‘s trilogy, based on the books by the late J. R. R. Tolkien.

“When I named Arlo, Arlo Bear, people actually thought I was crazy and they were like, ‘You’re gonna ruin their life. They’re gonna be bullied,'” Jesse said in his latest TikTok video. “Arlo has never been bullied for their name.”

Jesse said another name the couple considered is Adventure, adding, “and you can call them Addy. I think that’s really sick.”

Name No. 5: Piano. “I know what you guys are gonna say. But think about how that word sounds. Piano. It’s so rad,” Jesse said. “It’s such a cool word. We were talking about that it could almost sound Italian without being Italian.”

“And last but not least, Orca,” Jesse continued. “Orca’s my favorite animal. Sounds really cool. Francesca doesn’t like the way it sounds, which I do get, it’s a very harsh sounding name. But it’d be pretty bada– to be named after an orca.”

Elon’s father is an engineer and like Elon, was born in South Africa. In the 2015 biography Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, author Ashlee Vance wrote that Elon and his dad had a difficult relationship. In an emotional 2017 Rolling Stone interview, Elon criticized his father and talked about his upbringing, saying that after his parents split, he moved in with his dad, which, he said, “was not a good idea.”

However, Errol told Rolling Stone, “I love my children and would readily do whatever for them.”

In a 2015 Forbes interview, Elon’s dad said he used to take his kids on trips overseas. “Their mother and I split up when they were quite young and the kids stayed with me,” he said. “I took them all over the world.”

After divorcing Elon’s mother Maye, Errol married Heide, whose daughter Jana Bezuidenhout was 4 years old at the time. Errol and Heide went on to have two daughters together before they, too, broke up. 

Years later, Jana reached out to Errol following a breakup. “We were lonely, lost people,” Errol explained in a 2018 interview with The Sunday Times. “One thing led to another—you can call it God’s plan or nature’s plan.” Either way, the duo welcomed son Elliott in 2017 and then a baby girl in 2019. As Errol put it to The Sun, “The only thing we are on Earth for is to reproduce. If I could have another child I would. I can’t see any reason not to.”
