The Carters spent their earliest days as husband and wife at the Naval base in Norfolk, Va., where Jimmy was gone most of the week on assignments and Rosalynn enjoyed a crash course in homemaking. 

Their first child, son John William “Jack” Carter, was born July 3, 1947, so the couple celebrated their first anniversary at the hospital as a family of three. The following year, Jimmy was selected for submarine school in New London, Conn., and finally had regular hours so he could be home each night with his wife and child.

They welcomed son James Earl “Chip” Carter III on April 12, 1950, while they were living in Hawaii. Then it was onto San Diego, Calif., then back to New London—where son Donnel Jeffrey “Jeff” Carter was born Aug. 18, 1952—and then they moved to Schenectady, N.Y., so Jimmy could study nuclear power at Union College.

Rosalynn has said that she planned on being a Navy wife, moving from city to city and seeing the world with her husband. Which she ultimately did, but not in the way she ever would have imagined. 

Jimmy was working toward a post on a nuclear submarine, but when his father died in 1953, he took leave and went back to Plains with his wife and sons to look after his family’s peanut farm. Rosalynn hadn’t intended on ending up right back where she started (She was “astounded and furious,” Jimmy wrote in A Full Life), but eventually the Carters’ partnership extended to running the farm, too.

“I knew more on paper about the business than he did,” Rosalynn told the Associated Press in 2021 ahead of their 75th wedding anniversary. “He would take my advice about things.”

By the early 1960s they had acquired 3,200 acres of land and their supply business, Carter’s Warehouse, was a one-stop shop for local farmers. 

Rosalynn was born Eleanor Rosalynn Smith in 1927 in Plains, Georgia. She graduated Georgia Southwestern College in 1946. Later that year, she married her husband, who had just graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. She was 18 and he was 21 at the time. They were the longest-married presidential couple.

Throughout her life, Rosalynn was an advocate of mental health, caregiving and equal rights.

She also championed immunizing children against preventable disease. When her husband was president amid a measles outbreak, she worked to make vaccinations a routine public health practice and by 1981, 95 percent of children entering school were immunized against measles and other diseases, according to her bio on her memorial tribute site.

In 1982, the Carters founded the Carter Center, which aims to “improve lives by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy and preventing diseases,” according to its mission statement.

Five years later, Rosalynn founded the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers at Georgia Southwestern State University. In 2000, the Carter Center and Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health established the Rosalynn Carter Endowed Chair in Mental Health, the first endowed chair in mental health policy at a school of public health.

According to the Carter Center, when asked once how she would like to be remembered, Rosalynn said, “I would like for people to think that I took advantage of the opportunities I had and did the best I could.”

Rosalynn Carter, the beloved wife of former President Jimmy Carter, has passed away, according to the Carter Center. Carter, 96, had suffered from dementia at the end of her life and had entered hospice care on Friday. She died Sunday at her home in Plains, GA and had her family by her side.

The former first lady remained one of the most influential women in the field of mental health discussions during her lifetime and had made a tremendous impact. She was also loved deeply by those closest to her. “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” President Carter said, the Carter Center shared. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

“Besides being a loving mother and extraordinary First Lady, my mother was a great humanitarian in her own right,” her son Chip Carter also said in a statement. “Her life of service and compassion was an example for all Americans. She will be sorely missed not only by our family but by the many people who have better mental health care and access to resources for caregiving today.”

Carter is survived by her children, including Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also had a grandson who died in 2015.

Carter’s passing came at 2:10pm after the Carter Center announced that she’d been diagnosed with dementia. The family released a statement on May 30, 2023. “The Carter family is sharing that former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has dementia. She continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones,” they said.

Her death also came after her husband had announced that he was receiving hospice care in February 2023. “After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers,” the Carter Center said in a statement.

Carter had no intention of being a traditional first lady, rather taking an active role in national politics and working on her passion: mental health advocacy. She was a force to be reckoned with, a fierce activist and an award-winning volunteer who stood by her husband for more than 70 years of marriage. When Jimmy Carter became Governor of Georgia in 1970, she forged her own path that led to a lifetime of service.

Carter was appointed to the Governor’s Commission to Improve Services for the Mentally and Emotionally Handicapped and spent her time as Georgia’s first lady working with mentally disabled children — something she called her “proudest achievement” in 1982. She was also an honorary chairperson for the Georgia Special Olympics.

She brought that passion for mental health advocacy to the White House with her in 1977. While campaigning for her husband, Carter was elected to the board of directors of the National Association of Mental Health. During her first interview as first lady she spoke about her agenda: “For every person who needs mental health care to be able to receive it close to his home, and to remove the stigma from mental health care so people will be free to talk about it and seek help. It’s been taboo for so long to admit you had a mental health problem,” she told The New York Times.

Carter took an active role in politics, as well, even sitting in on some Cabinet meetings. She explained at the time that, “I was there to be informed so that when I traveled across the country, which I did a great deal, and was questioned by the press and other individuals about all areas of government, I’d know what was going on.” Carter was the first, first lady to have an office in the East Wing. She was integral in the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.

Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter were married in 1946, and are parents to their four children and grandparents to their 22 grandchildren as well as great grandparents to great grandchildren. Until the end, she served on the board of trustees for the Carter Center, the non-profit she and her husband founded in 1981 after leaving the White House. She continued her work with the mentally ill, founding the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving (RCI) at Georgia Southwestern State University. She served as the president of the board of directors.

Tori Spelling, 50, isn’t too happy about estranged husband Dean McDermott‘s recent tell-all interview about their life together and their split, according to Entertainment Tonight. The actress feels “hurt” about the comments the actor made, which included information about his alcohol-fueled rages and how he attempted suicide with sleeping pills, and is “protective” over their five children, a source told the outlet.

“Tori is a little hurt and upset by Dean’s recent tell-all type of interview,” the source said. “[She] recognizes that Dean spoke about her in a relatively positive light, but she feels protective over her children. Especially Stella, who is old enough to know what’s going on and reads and hears about these types of things.”

Tori and Dean share Liam, 16, Stella, 15, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11, and Beau, 6, together, and he is also the father of his son Jack, 24, whom he shares with ex-wife Mary Jo Eustace. “Tori is trying to stay positive and keep things afloat for her family and not let Dean’s words impact her too much,” the source added.

The insider’s comments come after Dean admitted he hadn’t seen Tori or the kids in five months. “I took something that was really beautiful, and I just tore it down year after year, day after day,” he told Daily Mail. He also went into details about his struggles with binge drinking.

“Alcohol made me feel good enough,” he told the outlet. “I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t — it ended up in isolation. It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of narcos by myself with a beautiful family in the other room. That’s what it led to, and that’s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori.”

Amid his rough days, Dean spent 40 days in a California rehab facility and currently lives in a sober house with eight other men. Meanwhile, Tori and the kids moved into a motel, an RV, and then a $18,000/per month rental home since the split, which was announced in summ. The former lovebirds were married for 17 years.

In his interview with ESPN, Patrick spoke about his close friendship with Travis. “I honestly feel like he’s my brother,” he said. “His family and my family have almost become one family because of the relationship that we have and how we’ve kind of became these brothers on the football field.”

He continued, “But off the football field as well, he doesn’t try to be this Travis Kelce, Saturday Night Live guy. He just wants to be the guy that comes to play football every single day, and I think that’s what makes him so special and why guys really gravitate towards him.”

Travis had hosted SNL back in March and also made a cameo on an October episode. Taylor also appeared briefly on the latter show, after which they celebrated with the cast at an after-party.

“We both love winning and we love competing,” Patrick said about Travis, “and I think that’s what makes us have that same wavelength on the football field, as we’re going to compete to the very end.”

Nicolas “Nic” Kerdiles found himself in the public eye after he started dating Chrisley Knows Best alum Savannah Chrisley. However, the late athlete led a noteworthy career outside of his relationships before his tragic death. Nic was just 29 years old when he died on September 23, 2023.

What Happened to Nic Kerdiles? 

Nic reportedly got into a motorcycle accident after driving through a stop sign and crashing into an SUV on September 23 in Nashville. He was pronounced dead at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. 

There was reportedly evidence of alcohol in his bloodstream after toxicology tests were done, according to an autopsy report obtained by TMZ. It was estimated that his Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) at about 0.124, which is over the legal limit of 0.08.

Following the news of his tragic death, the Anaheim Ducks shared a heartfelt message for their former teammate. 

“We’re heartbroken to hear the news about Nic Kerdiles,” the team said in a social media statement. “An Irvine native, Nic became the first player from Orange County to play for the Ducks, in 2017. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and loved ones.

What Was Nic Kerdiles’ Job? 

Nic was a talented hockey player throughout most of his life. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and played the sport in the NCAA Division 1 with the Wisconsin Badgers. In 2014, the Nashville native became a professional hockey player for the Anaheim Ducks. He played for the team for four seasons through 2018. In 2019, Nic became a free agent and was traded by the Ducks to the Winnipeg Jets. 

Following his athletic career, Nic began working as a real estate broker in Tennessee.

Tate went from performing covers of Billie Eilish’s songs on her YouTube channel to collaborating with the singer’s brother, Finneas O’Connell. 

“I was nervous because he’s got so much knowledge and is such an incredible producer and can play any instrument,” she recalled to Cosmo about writing together. “Obviously, I’ve been a huge fan of Billie’s forever, so I was a little starstruck walking into the room. I can’t believe [Finneas] wanted to write with me.”

Heidi Klum, 50, looked amazing when she attended the Las Vegas Formula One Grand Prix at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit on Saturday. The model went topless underneath a black leather jacket as her husband Tom Kaulitz, 34, joined her for the exciting event. She also wore black bottoms and matching thigh-high boots over fishnet tights, in an Instagram photo she shared.

Heidi’s latest Grand Prix appearance comes two weeks after she held her epic annual Halloween party. Sheynnis hails from Managua, Nicaragua, and she frequently shares photos and videos via Instagram that show her connecting with people around the country. Hours before the pageant finals, she penned a heartfelt message to the place that has lifted her up over the years.

“My beautiful homeland, thank you for allowing me to be an ambassador of your culture, of your landscapes, of our identity and colonial beauty,” she wrote via Instagram. “My Nicaragua, [it] will be an honor to scream one more night your name and prove to the universe that the homeland may be small but we are full of big dreams.”

She’s a TV Host

On February 6, Sheynnis gushed that she was “happy and grateful” to take on the role as morning host of Al Dia, calling her new gig a “gift from heaven.”

“I was commenting today that if I got to talk to little 5-year-old Sheynnis I wouldn’t believe that in the not too distant future I would be working with big screen characters,” she explained via Instagram. “Great characters I watched every morning and they were role models for me.”

“Her cause this year will be mental health, which stems from her own experiences with anxiety,” reads Sheynnis’ Miss Universe bio. “Coming from a country where this issue is rarely addressed, she started an accessible initiative called ‘Understand Your Mind,’ in which she interviews a specialist on emotional care in her television segments. Her side. Soccer star Ashlyn Harris broke her silence about her divorce from teammate Ali Krieger and denied cheating on her spouse.

“Let me be clear: I did not step out on my marriage,” Harris, 38, wrote, in part, in a lengthy message via Instagram on Saturday, November 18. “I was always faithful in my marriage, if not always totally happy.”

Harris filed for divorce from Krieger, 39, in September after nearly four years of marriage. The pair share two children, Sloane, 2, and Ocean, 15 months. Shortly after the filing, multiple sources confirmed to People that Harris had gone on a “first date” with actress Sophia Bush, who filed for divorce from her husband Grant Hughes in August after 13 months of marriage, HollywoodLife confirmed. 

The timing of Harris and Bush’s romantic connection raised eyebrows, and Krieger fueled the rumors with a cryptic post on October 19 that read, “Preparing for playoffs while in my Beyoncé lemonade era.” 

Harris continued her lengthy statement by giving fans insight into her former relationship with Krieger and how they are moving forward with coparenting after their split.

“Ending a relationship after almost 13 years of friendship, teammate-ship, marriage, and co-parenting (many of them good years) is a decision that was not made lightly,” she wrote. “We agreed to center our children, continue therapy, separate, and to move forward with our lives. Two happy families are always better than one unhappy one. This process is never easy, but we were making our way through.”

The athlete assured her “priority” is being a great parent to her kids, continuing, “Despite this current darkness, there have been years of love between us. And our kids are the best part of it all. They deserve two healthy and happy parents, and that’s what matters most. We are all in pain.”

Harris then shifted her focus to the online hate she’s been receiving amid her ongoing divorce. 

“I share all of this to remind people that bullying anyone about a personal decision, especially when that bullying is rooted in lies, really hurts,” her post read. “I’m hoping that instead of continuing this cruelty you can remember the simple truth that I’m a human being, a mom, and a good person just trying my best. I’d appreciate if you could take a breath and treat me and my family with some humanity.”
