Is GTA 6 really 210GB? The rumor was close, but Rockstar says up to 212GB

A store-data rumor put GTA 6 near 210GB. Rockstar has now published the official answer: players may need up to 212GB for the console preload.

A widely shared claim said Grand Theft Auto VI would be a 210GB download on PlayStation 5. That number originally came from a social-media account that tracks store data, not from Rockstar. It was reasonable to label it unconfirmed at the time.

Rockstar has now ended the guessing game. In a support FAQ updated November 3, the company says the GTA 6 preload will require up to 212GB of available space, depending on the device. The rumor missed by only 2GB — roughly one respectable folder of screenshots about the rumor.

What Rockstar actually confirmed

Digital preloading begins November 10. PlayStation 5 preloads open at midnight in each player's local time zone, while Xbox Series X|S preloads begin globally at midnight GMT. The game remains scheduled to unlock on November 19.

The words “up to” matter. Available-space requirements can differ from the final download size, and day-one updates may change the storage needed after launch. Players should leave extra room rather than deleting exactly enough files to reach 212GB.

What happened to the 700GB rumor?

That older viral number was never credible. It came from parody-style posts and was not supported by a Rockstar page, console listing or technical document. The new official figure puts it to bed. GTA 6 is enormous, but it is not asking your console to become a small data center.

The verdict

The 210GB claim was unverified when first circulated, but it proved remarkably close to Rockstar's official maximum of 212GB. This is a useful reminder that an accurate leak is still not an official fact until the responsible company publishes it.

For players, the practical advice is simple: check your storage before November 10, enable automatic downloads if desired, and use Rockstar's support page rather than a cropped screenshot with seventeen fire emojis.
