West Ham boss Moyes issues apology for ball-boy incident

West Ham boss Moyes issues apology as damning footage highlights ball-boy incident

West Ham United boss David Moyes has issued an apology, after being shown a red card during the club’s meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.

For those not aware, Scotsman Moyes was at the heart of altogether unsavoury scenes late in the action at the Deutsche Bank Park.

This came as the tactician, desperate to keep the game moving amid his side’s search for an equaliser, completely lost his cool with a ball boy pitchside.

After the ball was thrown in Moyes’ direction, he was spotted kicking it, in frankly unacceptable fashion, back at the individual in question, lucky to have missed his target by a whisker:

Speaking on the back of the full-time whistle in Frankfurt, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his sending off was put to West Ham’s manager himself.

And Moyes went on to apologise for his role in the incident, albeit only before adding that ‘he threw it very softly at me’:

“I kicked the ball back at the ball boy, so I apologise for that. But he threw it very softly at me.”

Eintracht march on

Moyes’ outburst, of course, came en route to his side ultimately being dumped out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage.

After slipping to a 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium last week, the Irons were again downed on Thursday, as a solitary goal on the part of Rafael Borre proved enough to guide Eintracht Frankfurt to a 3-1 aggregate triumph, and a spot in the competition’s showpiece.

The Bundesliga outfit, in turn, will go head to head with Scottish heavyweights Rangers for the title of Europa League champions later this month.
