Giants elevate Tommy DeVito, Jalen Mayfield from practice squad

With quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) out on Sunday against the Washington Commanders, the New York Giants have elevated quarterback Tommy DeVito from their practice squad.

DeVito will serve as the backup to starter Tyrod Taylor, who will be under center for the second straight week.

The 25-year-old DeVito is a New Jersey native, having grown up in Cedar Grove and attending Don Bosco Preparatory High School. He played his college ball at Syracuse before transferring to Illinois as a senior.

The Giants signed DeVito as a rookie free agent following the 2023 NFL draft. He was released as a part of final cuts in August but promptly re-signed to the team’s practice squad.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Mayfield was a third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2021 NFL draft. He was released in August after missing the 2022 regular season due to injury and joined the Giants’ practice squad a few days later.

Mayfield has spent time on both the Giants’ active roster and practice squad this season, appearing in two games. This is his second standard elevation.

Following Sunday’s game, both DeVito and Mayfield will revert back to the practice squad.
