Victor Wembanyama’s 29 points not enough as Spurs succumb to Timberwolves

Despite Victor Wembanyama’s stellar 29-point performance, the San Antonio Spurs fell short against the Minnesota Timberwolves, losing 117-110 in their NBA In-Season Tournament opener.

Karl-Anthony Towns dominated with 29 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Timberwolves to their fifth consecutive victory, while Anthony Edwards contributed 28 points and Rudy Gobert had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Wembanyama, the rookie sensation, showcased his skills with a 12-for-21 field goal and 3-for-7 3-pointer performance, along with nine rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots.

Devin Vassell’s career-high 29 points for the Spurs couldn’t secure a win.

Despite a strong start from San Antonio, the Timberwolves, led by Towns and Edwards, outscored them 68-46 in the second and third quarters, building an 18-point lead in the third.

In the final quarter, the Spurs rallied, shooting efficiently to narrow the gap, but Edwards and Towns sealed the Timberwolves’ victory with seven crucial points.

The Spurs, in danger of another blowout loss after two previous heavy defeats, fought back in the final quarter, but the Timberwolves’ duo ensured their win.
