Threads Is Testing an Automatic Post Archive Feature to Let Users Hide Old Posts

Threads is testing a new feature that will allow users to archive posts automatically after a certain period of time. The new feature was confirmed by the Instagram head Adam Mosseri who also heads the X (formerly known as Twitter)-styled platform. He highlighted that users will have the choice to both auto-archive posts as well as manually hide them from their profile. Further, the company also plans to allow users to reverse the effect and bring posts back to their timeline as well.

According to a Threads post by Mosseri, the company is testing the option to allow users to archive posts. Currently, the feature is only available to a small number of users, and likely still under development. While the Instagram head did not reveal any timeline for the release of the feature, it could be rolled out in the next two weeks, which is how long it usually takes after an official announcement.

Mosseri also shared a couple of screenshots detailing the feature. Based on the images, the feature can be accessed by tapping on the three dotted menu next to every post made by the user. Tapping on it will show an Archive now option. There is also an option to set all posts to be archived after a set period of time automatically, but users will have to activate it separately. At the moment, it is unclear whether users will be able to choose the period after which posts get archived or if they will only be able to choose from options given by the platform.

In case a user wants a post back, they will be able to unarchive a post and make it public again. Mosseri highlighted that he ran a poll sometime ago, and on the basis of the feedback, the feature will not be turned on by default and will only be activated when users themselves activate it. Notably, this feature is similar to the archive feature on Instagram.

Threads developers have been busy testing and rolling out new features lately. As per a report, the platform is also testing a feature to show real-time search results. Some users have shared screenshots where two different options — Top and Recent — can be seen when searching a topic.

Threads Testing Real-Time Search Results for Some Users, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri Confirms

Threads is testing a feature that allows users to see real-time search results on their feeds. The service has introduced the feature for some users and is expected to be rolled out to users later this year. Ever since the launch of the microblogging service by Instagram last year, it has been dubbed as a competitor to X (formerly Twitter), since they share several similarities including chronological and algorithm-based feeds. However, X still has some features that are currently unavailable on the Meta-owned service.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed in a post on Threads that the platform is testing real-time search options. This was in confirmation to a post by another user who claimed that there were now ‘Top’ and ‘Recent’ buttons added to the top of the feed. He added that the latter is not exactly a chronological timeline, but it appears to show more recent posts than what is seen on Top feed.

Mosseri also clarified the feature is for now it is being tested with a small number of Threads users. So if you update to the latest version of the application and do not see the different sections on your timeline, then you are not one of the users included in the test. It may roll out to global users eventually but the first has not stated a release timeline for the same.

Threads recently rolled out the saved posts feature on the platform. This allows users to bookmark certain posts for later. This is a feature that is also available on X, as well as other social platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Users can “save” posts privately that can be accessed at a later time.

The Meta-owned platform also began testing a new ‘Today’s Topics’ section. This feature is expected to complement the search page, displaying real-time trending posts, but with no hashtags to identify the trend unlike on X (previously Twitter). Instead, the topics will be displayed as plain text, with a title and a top post that covers the specified topic. Users can participate in the discussion by clicking or tapping on the topic.

Threads Rolls Out New Feature to Save Drafts, Allows Users to Take Photos Within the App

Threads has rolled out two new features for its Android and iOS users. The Meta-owned social media platform will now allow users to save post drafts to come back to it later and edit or post them. Additionally, the app will allow users to take photos without having to be redirected to the default camera app. Both features were rolled out on March 7 and should reach all users within the next few days. Notably, Threads recently added a new feature that allows users to bookmark their favourite posts.

The features were announced by both the official handle of Threads and a post by Instagram Head Adam Mosseri. He said, “We’ve been testing the ability to save a draft and also to take photos within the Threads app – we’re now rolling both out to everyone. Hope these make it easier to share your ideas on the fly.” Considering the first announcement of the feature by Mosseri, the testing phase continued for a little over two weeks.

Saving post drafts is a convenient feature that allows users to type text, create a poll, add photos, videos, audio messages or other files, and instead of posting it immediately, save the draft and post it at a later time. This is useful when a user wants to make edits to the post, confirm the information, or type it ahead of time.

Since Threads does not allow post-scheduling without using a third-party app such as Hootsuite, it can also act as a workaround to making a post at a certain hour. To use it, simply create a new post, add the content, and either swipe down or tap on the Cancel icon and then tap on Save draft.

Another feature to debut alongside saving drafts is taking photos within the Threads app. Earlier, users were redirected to the default camera app where they could click a picture, which would then be shared with the social media app. Now, users can simply give Threads access to cameras and then take photos from within the app. Threads’ camera interface is not as feature-rich as Instagram’s camera and only comes with basic functionalities, which might be a good reason to stick to the default camera, anyway. However, new features to the interface could soon be added.

Threads Saved Posts Feature Begins Rolling Out to Several Users After Weeks of Testing: How it Works

Threads is getting a new feature that will allow users to bookmark their favourite posts. The feature was first announced by the Meta-owned microblogging platform earlier this month and was being tested with a limited number of users. It is now being rolled out widely and more users should soon have access to the feature on their app. Recently, the Meta-owned social media platform was also spotted testing a new section where trending posts would be shown to some users, similar to the trending page on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced the roll-out of the saved posts feature via a post on Threads. He said, “We’re rolling out Save on Threads more broadly starting today, so you can bookmark your favourite posts for later.” Interestingly, when asked if saving posts could influence the algorithm and the feed on the platform, Mosseri replied, “Eventually yes, but I don’t know if that’s the case yet.”

The ability to “bookmark” or “save” posts is already very common on today’s social media platforms. As most home page feeds offer infinite scrolling and are algorithm-based instead of displaying recent posts, there is always a fear that a good post or thread may disappear if the user closes and opens the app again. Bookmarks are good way to keep track of the posts you’re watching on the platform.

How to save posts on Threads

In order to save a post on Threads, click on the three-dot menu on the top-right corner of each post, and then tap Save from the list of options. A toast notification will also appear on the top of the page confirming that the post has been saved. Once saved, the post will be listed in the Saved section. You can visit your profile, then tap on the double horizontal line icon for to open the settings menu, and then tap on Saved which is currently the fourth option from the top.

Recently, Threads also began testing a new Today’s topics section. This feature will be an expansion of the search page and will show real-time trending posts. Unlike on X (formerly Twitter), there will be no hashtags to label the trend, and instead topics will be seen as plain text, with a heading and a top post that discusses the given topic. Users will be able to click or tap on the topic and join the discussion.

Threads Gets Tags Feature That Lets Users Link Phrases, Emojis in Posts, Rolling Out Globally

Threads is now rolling out a new Tags feature globally on the platform. The Meta-owned platform was introduced earlier this year to rival Elon Musk’s X. Meta announced a few weeks back that it was testing the use of tags on Threads posts. This feature, also known as hashtags, has been popular across social media sites for years and it is available on several platforms including Threads-rival X, formerly Twitter. However, Thread’s version of hashtags comes with some limitations and alterations.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced in a Threads post that users can now tag a topic in a post. He confirmed that the feature is rolling out to all users globally. The feature is said to help users categorise their posts and make them easier to find and engage with. Although the feature is similar to the hashtag feature available on other platforms that have become largely popular in the past few years, Threads tags come with some visible changes and a few functional alterations.

Mosseri explains that in a Threads tag, the “#” symbol will not be shown, and users can tag more than one word even if they are spaced out, and most importantly only one tag can be added per post. As per Mosseri, this take on tags is aimed at making conversations more focused on communities and less on “engagement hacking.”

To use a tag on Threads, you can use the “#” key on your keyboard or the new # button in the post composer. You will be presented with a list of existing topics to choose from or you can opt to create your own. You will be able to use spaces between words and include special characters within a tag.

Since the “#” symbol does not appear on the post, the Tag on a Threads post appears in blue, similar to a link. You can click on the tag to follow other conversations on the same topic. An Instagram Product Designer also added that emojis can also be used as or included in a tag.

Threads Expands Keyword Search Feature to Users Globally in All Languages

Threads, the microblogging platform from Instagram, is now expanding its keyword search feature. The feature was previously available in select regions but will now be offered to all users, according to information shared by the platform’s head. This, however, is different from the tags feature that the company is currently in testing in Australia which is said to help find posts related to a specific interest or theme and is similar to the hashtag feature on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri on Thursday confirmed that the keyword search feature is now expanding and will be available to all Threads users and in all languages. The feature was initially tested in some English-speaking countries and then rolled out to more English and Spanish-speaking countries.

Mosseri added that the search action will get more improvements soon but did not share details of what features would be added. Responding to a user’s query about support for viewing search results in chronological order on Threads, Mosseri said that it would “create a substantial safety loophole”.

The keyword search feature is expected to be the stepping stone for Threads to add support for trending topics — a feature that is available on the platform’s rival X. The inclusion of post counts while adding interactive tags to posts hints at the arrival of support for trending topics.

Last month, Threads also rolled out the ability to delete profiles without deleting the linked Instagram account. This functionality was not available when the microblogging platform was launched in July — users could only temporarily disable their Threads profile in the past, as the company had revealed that the profile was closely tied to the original Instagram account.

Threads Begins Testing Interactive Tags Without Hash Symbol: All You Need to Know

Threads — the text-based microblogging platform that competes with X (formerly Twitter) — is testing support for tags, a popular feature on the rival messaging service. Tags function in a similar manner as hashtags on X, but do not include the hash symbol. Meta has also put some limitations on the use of tags on the service. The new tags feature could pave the way for support for trending topics on Threads — another feature that is widely used on X.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature was in testing via Threads posts, stating that users in Australia that are part of a test will now be able to tag topics to categorise them. These tags can be based on a specific interest or theme, which suggests that they will work in a similar fashion to hashtags on Twitter.

Three screenshots of the user interface shared by Mosseri show a hash button that appears to the right of the microphone button in the post composer on the Threads app. When the button is tapped, you can start typing a word and the app will make suggestions to add a tag which appears in blue as a hyperlink on the post. However, it appears that you can only add one tag to a post, unlike platforms like X or Mastodon.

It’s also worth noting that the suggestions for tags that appear when you are trying to add one to your post will also display the number of posts that include that tag. Threads does not currently offer a dedicated section for trending tags or topics, but the addition of tag support suggests that a trending section could eventually make its way to the app.

Earlier this week, Meta announced it was rolling out support for the ability for users to delete their Threads profile without deleting their Instagram account. Nearly five months after the service was launched, users will be able to delete their Threads profiles with no impact on their Instagram account — instead of just deactivating their account on the text-based social platform.

Threads Rolls Out Chronological ‘Following’ Feed on iOS and Android, Web Interface in Development

Threads has rolled out a new Following tab on iOS and Android that allows users to see posts from users they have followed on the platform. Meta’s text-based microblogging platform that was launched as an alternative to Twitter — recently rebranded by Elon Musk to ‘X’ — will now allow users to see posts on the platform in chronological order. Until now, the platform offered an algorithmic feed that showed recommended posts along with posts from people they followed on the app. Meanwhile the platform has also confirmed that it is working on a web version of Threads, another feature that has been missing since the service was launched earlier this month.

A chronological feed was one of the most highly requested features on Threads, as users were unable to view the latest posts from people they were following on the platform — functionality that is available on rivals like X and Mastodon. On Tuesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the Following feed was rolling out to users on Threads, along with support for a new translation feature.

In order to try out the new Following feed, you need to update Threads on your iPhone or Android smartphone to the latest version and wait for the feature to be enabled on your account — it appears to be a server-side switch, but several users have already been able to enable the functionality. You can turn on the new chronological timeline by tapping the home button or the Threads logo at the top of the app. The app will display two tabs, For you and Following. You can tap on the latter to see posts on Threads in a reverse chronological order.

While Threads may have finally added one of the features most requested by users, The Verge discovered that app will automatically revert to the algorithmic feed after reopening the app. The company told the publication that the algorithmic timeline is the “default experience” when users open the Threads app, which suggests that you will need to select the Following feed on a regular basis. X, on the other hand, allows users to select the chronological timeline and remembers the user’s choice.

Meanwhile, Threads still lacks a web interface, weeks after the platform was launched, which means that the platform only allows users to browse posts and their timeline from the iOS and Android apps. However, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri stated on Tuesday that the platform is already working on a web version of the platform. There’s no timeline on when the web interface will be rolled out, so it looks like the apps will remain the only way to access Threads for the foreseeable future.

Threads to Implement Rate Limits to Combat Spam Amid Drop in Active Users, DMs Feature Coming Soon: Reports

Threads — the popular microblogging platform launched by Facebook parent Meta earlier this month — will implement rate limits following an increase in spam attacks on the platform. Rate limits are an artificial ceiling on the number of times a user can interact with a platform within a certain period, and rival Twitter announced similar limits for the same purpose earlier this month. Meanwhile, the early excitement around the Threads app appears to have waned, as per a report that states that the number of daily active users on the app has dropped considerably as the app still lacks important features offered by other platforms.

In a Threads post on Monday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that spam attacks had “picked up” on the platform and that the service would have to “get tighter on things like rate limits. However, just like Twitter’s recent implementation of rate limits, the decision could prevent active people from accessing the service. However, Mosseri added that users could provide feedback related to false positives, if the company’s protections ended up limiting their activity.

After a blockbuster debut, it appears that Threads is seeing a drop in daily active users. From 49 million daily active users on July 7, the app had 23.6 million active users (on Android) a week later on July 14, according to details shared by SimilarWeb and corroborated by analytics platform Sensor Tower. In addition to the novelty of new apps wearing off, Meta’s decision to block access to users from the EU using a VPN could have also cause a higher drop in active users.

Despite the reported drop in active users on Threads, the platform has already gained around one-fifth the weekly active userbase that rival Twitter has, according to details shared by Data.ai. The firm also revealed that demand for Threads was highest in India, which accounted for 33 percent of the global downloads for the app, followed by Brazil and the US.

Unlike other social media and microblogging services, Threads lacks a few important features that were missing when the service was launched earlier this month. These include direct messaging (DMs), the ability to search for text in posts, and a chronological timeline. While these features are still in development, a leaked memo seen by Business Insider reveals that messaging, improved search functionality, and the ability to see trends and topics will soon be making their way to the platform.
