NYPD detective Christina Cancel gave phony name twice during shoplifting bust

The suspended NYPD detective who worked in Commissioner Edward Caban’s office and allegedly stole from a Long Island Home Depot provided cops with a phony name twice before coughing up her real one, court documents reveal.

Detective Specialist Christina Cancel, 54, allegedly gave Suffolk County Police the fake name “Lisa Lopez” and a made up date of birth  — even after cops warned she could be charged with false impersonation.

“The defendant still gave the name of Lisa Lopez birthdate 04.12.1968,” the documents state.

Cancel is accused of snatching $160 worth of merchandise from the home improvement store on Saturday in Deer Park, Suffolk County Police said.

Cancel — who made more than $150,000 last year — allegedly stole a six-port charger and Beyond Bright Ultra light worth $128.97 before waltzing out the door at 10:12 a.m., according to the criminal complaint.

The sticky-fingered detective then allegedly headed back into the store and grabbed a $29.97 USB three-port charger and walked past the registers at around noon, authorities allege.

Cancel, a 19-year veteran, used a cart during her shoplifting spree, according to the complaint.

Before cops brought her to Suffolk’s 1st Precinct, she finally admitted her real name and date of birth, the complaint shows.

She was charged with two counts of petit larceny and false personation.

Cancel, of Hicksville, was suspended without pay, the NYPD said.

The alleged thief worked in the Police Commissioner’s Office since July, the same month Caban was tasked with leading the department.

It’s not the first time she was disciplined by the NYPD.

In 2015, she lost 10 days of vacation for using another cop’s password to search the NYPD database.

Cancel did not return a message left by The Post Thursday night.

South Carolina store allows teenage shoplifters to work instead of pressing charges

Two South Carolina teenagers stole from a store at a mall in Greenville, but the business elected to turn the incident into a learning opportunity and a chance to give back to the community instead of pressing charges against the shoplifters.

The teenage boys were caught by Greenville Police on surveillance video on March 13 stealing from Palmetto Moon in Haywood Mall.

But Palmetto Moon president Amber Dube said that when the clothing store learned the shoplifters were teenagers, they wanted to work with the families on resolving the issue without pressing charges.

As a result, the boys will work for Palmetto Moon.

“I think this is a situation where teenagers do stupid things, and we know that,” Dube told FOX Carolina. “So I think it’s important for us to think about what they did and really judge on the merits of who they are and what they can contribute back to the community.”

Dube said the teenagers’ parents were heavily involved in finding a solution to the shoplifting incident and that the boys went back to the store to return the stolen items, apologize and pay for the items.

“These kids are smart kids, they’re athletes, they have a strong future,” she said. “So we wanted to make sure that they learned a lesson, and they were held accountable for their actions, and felt that this was the best way for them to learn their lesson and also to give back to the community.”

The teenagers will work in the back of Palmetto Moon to learn what the workers do to prepare the store for customers.

The boys will donate the wages they receive to the Greenville Police Department and will also do volunteer work for the agency.

“I’m hoping really that this is a message of community, of giving back, of partnership in a parent’s involvement,” Dube said. “I’m hoping that this message is really resonating with the community to say, we’re all in this together, and we can make our communities much better and more positive.”

Antonio Brown, suspect in murder of Atlanta grandmother, allegedly stole vodka before home break-in

The man accused of stabbing a 77-year-old woman to death inside her Atlanta home was reportedly intoxicated and stole a bottle of vodka from a liquor store before the killing.

Antonio Brown, 23, allegedly walked out of a nearby package store with a bottle of vodka before hopping the fence into the affluent gated community in Buckhead where police say he slaughtered Eleanor Bowles in a botched carjacking Saturday.

Brown tried to buy a $20 bottle of Absolut Vodka from Buckhead’s Best Wine & Spirits around 11:30 a.m., but was turned away because “he was already intoxicated,” according to a police report obtained by The Post.

A store employee told police that he then “snatched” the bottle and walked out of the store on Northside Parkway NW. She said staffers tried to stop him, but he was acting “aggressive.”

The employee said Brown was known by locals and was “always under the influence.” She said she and others believed he was homeless, according to the report.

Antonio Brown was arrested Monday and charged with murder, aggravated battery, possession of a knife, elder abuse and hijacking a motor vehicle.

About a half hour after the shoplifting, Brown entered the community where Bowles lived, broke into her home and allegedly stabbed the grandmother multiple times in the garage, officials said.

Brown was trying to steal Bowles’ 2021 Lexus RS350 when she interrupted, police believe.

He is accused of stabbing her to death and taking off in the car, which was recovered later that night.

Bowles’ lifeless body was found in her garage by her son several hours later around 5:30 p.m., police said.

He was coming to visit his mother for the holidays when he made the heartbreaking discovery.

Eleanor Bowles, 77, was found hours after the slaying by her son.

“I was on my way to visit her for the holidays and got to her a few hours too late,” Michael Bowles told FOX 5. “Finding her like that is something that will be with me forever. What happened to her was her worst nightmare. It’s most people’s worst nightmare.”

Brown was arrested Monday and charged with murder, aggravated battery, possession of a knife, elder abuse and hijacking a motor vehicle. He was booked into Fulton County jail.
