Lisa Marie would be ‘pissed’ at Priscilla’s play for estate: pal

Lisa Marie Presley’s friends are certain that she would be “pissed” by her mother’s attempts to take charge of her estate.

It has been just over two weeks since Lisa Marie, the only daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died at age 54 on January 12 after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest at her Calabasas, California home.

With her body barely laid to rest next to her beloved son, Benjamin, and her father at the family estate, Graceland, in Memphis, Tennessee, her mother has launched a legal challenge against the estate.

Sources told The Post that Lisa Marie and her mother were basically estranged for close to eight years before her passing.

One friend revealed that Priscilla, who had been a longtime trustee of the Elvis estate, making $900,000-a-year, failed to have her contract renewed by Elvis Presley Enterprises in 2020.

The friend added that mother and daughter did not even want to sit close to each other at the Golden Globes last month to celebrate the nominated movie “Elvis,” saying: “Lisa didn’t want to have anything to do with her mom. She was basically estranged from Priscilla for the last seven to eight years. They only talked when there was no option.

“At the Golden Globes, they were made to sit together by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association … Lisa didn’t even go with Priscilla, Jerry Schilling [a longtime Elvis friend] was her chaperone. The HFP pushed [mother and daughter] together.”

The HFP declined to comment, as did a rep for the Elvis estate.

According to Priscilla’s petition, seen by The Post, Lisa Marie wrote a living will in 1993 and amended it in 2010, making Priscilla, 77, a co-trustee alongside her former business manager Barry Siegel, whom she later sued for mismanagement.

After Lisa Marie’s death, Priscilla discovered an amendment that had been added in 2016, axing both Priscilla and Siegel as co-trustees and replacing them with Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley Keough; son Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide in 2020; and her twin girls, Finley and Harper Lockwood, now 14.

Priscilla is now contesting the will’s validity.

“Lisa would be pissed!” said one longtime friend of Lisa Marie, who was close to her for more than 12 years. “She would be so upset that Priscilla is doing this. Riley is an amazing trustee … and Lisa’s youngest daughters are in the best of hands with her.”

The friend laid bare the difficult relationship between Lisa Marie and her mother, adding: “I know with Lisa and Priscilla that they always had a strange relationship. They were often estranged.

“It was quite often Priscilla, Lisa Marie’s half-brother, Navarone, and her ex-husband Michael Lockwood together in one corner … It was always a bone of contention for Lisa.

“But I was shocked to see a filing for the trust from the Priscilla side.”

Indeed, Lockwood, with whom Lisa Marie had been embroiled in a lengthy divorce and custody battle which only ended in October, was invited to her funeral at the behest of Priscilla, according to the friend. “Neither Navarone nor Michael were on the guest list. Michael said he had to chaperone the twins, [but] he didn’t even have a seat, and Priscilla sorted it out.”

Priscilla, Lockwood, and Garibaldi also share the same publicist, who declined to comment.

This week, Joel Weinshanker, a managing partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises, told SiriusXM’s Elvis Radio that Lisa Marie was “very very certain” that her estate should be left to her children, revealing: said: ‘[It] was always Riley and Ben.

“There was never a question in her mind that they would be the stewards, that they would look at it exactly the way she did. Obviously, when Ben passed, it really sat with Riley.

“Although Riley is a movie star [and] an award-winning director, she had always had an interest and had always known that one day, she would be in charge of [things].”

To this, Priscilla spoke out Friday in a comment to The Post: “I loved Elvis very much as he loved me. Lisa is a result of our love. For anyone to think anything differently would be a travesty of the family legacy and would be disrespectful of what Elvis left behind in his life. There is an individual that bought their way into the family enterprise that is trying to speak on behalf of our family. This person is not a representative of Elvis or our family.

“Please allow us the time we need to work together and sort this out. Please ignore ‘the noise.’ As I have always been there for Elvis’ legacy, our family and the fans, I will continue to forge a pathway forward with respect, honesty, dignity, integrity and love.”

Reps for Riley were unavailable for comment.

As The Post previously reported, Priscilla and Lisa Marie had a difficult relationship for many years. Former Scientologist Karen de la Carrierre claimed that Priscila would drop off Lisa Marie with her for “auditing” or counseling, when the girl was just 9 or 10, with the directive “Handle her.”

The friend said that Lisa Marie had also had a “falling out” with her brother Navarone, whose father was Priscilla’s ex boyfriend Marco Garibaldi, a couple of years ago. whose father was Priscilla’s ex boyfriend Marco Garibaldi, a couple of years ago, claiming: “He wrote some vile social media post on her, which he later deleted.”

Garibaldi, 35, even managed to spill the beans on his niece Riley’s newborn baby daughter’s name, Tupelo – after Elvis’ hometown in Mississippi – in an Instagram Live session, as spotted by eagle-eyed fans online.

Riley only broke the news of her daughter’s birth at her mother’s funeral when she wrote in a speech, read by her husband Ben Smith-Petersen Smith as she was too grief-stricken to speak, “I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me.”

Garibaldi admitted after his sister’s passing in an Instagram post: “I wish things had been different between us. Regardless, you are my sister and I’m sending love and prayers for your journey home.”

This week, he spoke to People magazine, talking about his drug addiction and saying of his sister’s death, “It’s still surreal.

“However, Riley has been so good with the twins,” he added. Garibaldi was unavailable for comment.

According to the court filing, Priscilla has appointed Brigitte Kruse, a memorabilia auctioneer, as attorney-in-fact for her on the will petition.

David A. Esquibias, an LA-based probate attorney, told The Post this means Kruse has been given power of attorney.

Kruse and her husband started Kruse GWS Auctions Inc. in 2009, according to the company’s website. They have collaborated with Priscilla on Elvis memorabilia auctions in the past, though it’s unclear what the terms of their financial partnership may be. Photos of Priscilla and Kruse last August show them preparing to sell jewelry that once belonged to Elvis and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

The pal said: “I don’t know what Kruse’s reasons are, but I think this all boils down to Graceland. It’s all a bid for control.”

Lisa Marie owned Graceland, which will now go to her children.

Esquibias added that he thinks that Priscilla has a good chance of winning her legal challenge — particularly because she did not receive notice of the amendment while her daughter was alive, as was required.

The petition also notes that Priscilla’s name is misspelled in the document, alleges the amendment was not witnessed or notarized, and questions the authenticity of Lisa Marie’s signature.

However, another high-profile probate lawyer in LA, who declined to be named, disagreed, telling The Post: “Priscila will have to show that Lisa Marie didn’t have the capacity, or it was not her signature or she was pressured to amend the agreement. This will be very hard for her to prove. It’s certainly not uncommon not to give notice of an amendment of a Trust.

“The probate court will look at what is fair and what Lisa Marie wanted. It’s clear what she wanted.”

Attorneys for Riley have yet to respond in the case.

“It’s so sad and upsetting,” said the friend. “They should be a family together united and bonding and healing.”

Elvis Presley’s Graceland will go to Lisa Marie Presley’s three daughters

Graceland, the iconic sprawling estate that once belonged to Elvis Presley, will go to Lisa Marie Presley’s three daughters.

Lisa Marie, the only child of the rock and roll legend and Priscilla Presley, died Thursday after she went into cardiac arrest in her California home. She was 54.

The Memphis, Tenn., mansion, which was passed down to the crooner’s daughter following his death in 1977, will benefit Lisa Marie’s daughters Riley, 33, and 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley, a representative for Graceland confirmed to People on Monday.

Lisa Marie shared Riley and her late son Benjamin, who died by suicide in 2020, with Danny Keough. She was married to Keough from 1988 to 1994.

The late singer shared her twins with ex-husband Michael Lockwood. The pair were married for a decade after tying the knot in 2006.

The Graceland mansion always held significance for Lisa Marie and her family. It was her childhood home, and — more notably — it was where her father died aged 42.

After the “Blue Suede Shoes” singer’s death in 1977, the estate was left to Lisa Marie as part of her eye-watering inheritance. She received her inheritance in a trust on her 25th birthday, effectively becoming the sole owner of Graceland.

In addition to the property, Lisa Marie received $100 million. But due to mismanagement and unfortunate investments, the late singer said almost all of the money soon disappeared.

To ensure the same didn’t happen to Graceland, Lisa Marie formed a new trust, dubbed The Elvis Presley Trust, along with her 77-year-old mother, Priscilla. The trust was also formed with the help of the National Bank of Commerce.

In a bid to amp up revenue, Graceland, which was purchased for $100,000 in 1957 by Elvis, opened its doors to paying visitors and even offered tours as well as overnight stays.

The lavish estate is now worth an estimated $500 million, per Rolling Stone.

Speaking in 2013, Lisa Marie said she will see to it that the property “will never be sold.”

“Graceland was given to me and will always be mine,” she told USA Today at the time. And then passed to my children.”

It comes as the Presley family announced that a public memorial for Lisa Marie will be held at the property on January 22.

Reps previously told Page Six that Lisa Marie will be laid to rest there with her father and late son, Benjamin.

Childhood pain of finding Elvis dead that Lisa Marie Presley could never escape

All the fame and money in the world could not save Elvis Presley’s daughter from a life of pain and anguish or from squandering much of her father’s $100 million fortune.

The only child of the man known as The King died from cardiac arrest Thursday at age 54.

Those who knew Lisa Marie paint a picture of a woman trapped by her birthright — and the demons of addiction — despite multiple bids to fight the burden of both.

It all started, apparently, with her father’s death — also from a heart condition — at age 42 in 1977. Lisa Marie, then just 9 years old, was at Graceland at the time and reportedly saw her father’s lifeless body.

Karen de la Carriere, a former top-ranking Scientologist who was tasked with counseling Lisa Marie shortly after Elvis’s death, said that Lisa Marie later “drowned herself in drugs for years” due to the sustained trauma of his passing.

Years after Elvis’ death, Lisa Marie’s sustained trauma reportedly led her to substance abuse.

“Lisa Marie had such a tough life. Broken marriages, corrupt money managers who ripped off a lot of her fortune at Elvis Presley Enterprises,” de la Carriere told The Post. Not to mention four broken marriages and the tragic suicide of her son, Benjamin, in 2020, which turned Lisa Marie into a heartbroken recluse in her Calabasas, Calif., mansion.

“I’ve dealt with death, grief and loss since the age of 9 years old,” Lisa Marie wrote in an essay published in People in August 2022. “I’ve had more than anyone’s fair share of it in my lifetime and somehow, I’ve made it this far.”

Lisa Marie was born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tenn., nine months to the day after her parents’ wedding. Elvis and Priscilla divorced when their daughter was 4.

After Elvis’ death, Lisa Marie became joint heir to his estate along with her grandparents Vernon and Minnie Mae Hood Presley. When they both died just a few years later, a pre-teen Lisa Marie became the sole heir and inherited Graceland, her father’s famous Memphis home.

By then, she was already being indoctrinated into the Church of Scientology along with Priscilla, who reportedly became involved with the group after being introduced to it by John Travolta.

This made for a tortuous childhood, according to de la Carriere, who was the last person trained by Scientology’s founder. L. Ron Hubbard. In 1979, she began spending as much as two and a half hours a day with an already rebellious Lisa Marie at the church’s facilities.

“Priscilla would show up and drop her off with two words: ‘Handle her!” claimed de la Carriere, who defected from the church in 2008. “No child wants to be dropped off at a strange place and sit in a room with a stranger holding soup cans for hours and months.”

“Soup cans” is a reference to the E-meter, a lie detector-style device used by Scientologists for “auditing” counseling.

After Elvis’ death, Priscilla reportedly was turned on to Scientology by John Travolta and involved Lisa Marie as well.

“Some people want to go to a therapist and tell them every last thing. Lisa Marie did not. She did not want coaching or therapy. But she had to go to Scientology,” de la Carriere said.

“Karen de la Carriere would have no first-hand knowledge of Lisa Marie or her relationship with the Church. The Church does not comment on parishioner counseling,” a Scientology spokesperson told The Post. “The Church’s relationship with Lisa Marie was one of warmth and care. We are saddened by Lisa Marie’s passing. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”

“She found her father’s dead body. She was 9 years old. That was one of her first traumas, de la Carriere said of Lisa Marie.

Entering her teen years, the girl became even more of a “renegade and a rebel,” de la Carriere added. “She drowned herself in drugs for years and years. She underwent three Scientology Purification rundowns [vitamins and sauna treatment for detox] but it didn’t work. She would always relapse.”

Lisa Marie told the Los Angeles Times in 2003 that she “was kind of a loner, a melancholy and strange child … I had a real self-destructive mode for a while. I never really fit into school. I didn’t really have any direction.”

She began dating musician and fellow Scientologist Danny Keough as a teen and the two got married in 1988. They shared two children, Benjamin and Riley, now 33 and a respected actress.

On her 25th birthday in 1993, Lisa Marie was given control of her father’s full estate — which had grown to an estimated $100 million thanks to the careful work of Priscilla, who had turned Graceland into a business and a huge tourist destination.

Lisa Marie, in turn, created her own revocable living trust, appointing others to act as trustees over her inheritance. Ten years later, she appointed business manager Barry Siegel as a co-trustee and person primarily in charge of managing the trust assets.

Three weeks after Lisa Marie and Danny divorced in 1994, she shocked the world by marrying Michael Jackson.

Lisa Marie said of Jackson in a 2003 interview with Diane Sawyer: “When he wants to lock into you, when he wants to intrigue you or capture you, or you know, whatever he wants to do with you, he can do it.”

She added that she “fell into this whole, ‘You poor, sweet, misunderstood man, I’m going to save you.’ … I fell in love with him.” After much public mockery, their marriage ended in January 1996. Lisa Marie later said it was due to Jackson’s drug addiction, telling Oprah Winfrey that she gave her husband an ultimatum: “The drugs or me.” He chose drugs.

Lisa Marie underwent a vicious custody battle for her twins Harper and Finley.
Instagram

In 2002, Lisa Marie wed actor Nicolas Cage after meeting him at a party, but that only lasted a few months.

Her fourth marriage came in 2006 to guitarist Michael Lockwood. They welcomed twins Finley and Harper a year later and — as Lisa Marie later publicly revealed — a doctor altered the course of her life by prescribing opioids for pain.

“It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital for me to feel the need to keep taking them,” she wrote of the addictive drugs in the foreword to the 2019 book “The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain.”

She did work alongside sober coaches, The Post is told by a source with direct knowledge of Presley’s ongoing health battles, and her family desperately tried to get her help.

Lisa Marie and Lockwood divorced in 2016 with a bitter court battle over custody and cash that was only settled last October.

It was during this period that she allegedly lost much of her fortune.

Court documents obtained by The Blast revealed that Lisa Marie owed more than $1 million in taxes at the time of her death and had squandered her estimated $100 million fortune through a series of bad business decisions.

The documents stated that Lisa Marie had declared to have $95,266 in cash and $714,775 worth of stocks, bonds and other assets while battling Lockwood. However, in the same papers, she also cited a $1 million debt to the IRS, clearly putting her in the red.

In 2005, Lisa Marie had sold off an 85% stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, allegedly at business manager Siegel’s behest — relinquishing almost all control of the company responsible for her father’s legacy.

Priscilla and Lisa Marie were extremely close, although she rebelled against her mother in her younger years.
Instagram

She later sued Siegel, saying he placed the payout she received “in risky ventures in hopes of attaining his own celebrity in the entertainment industry.” She also accused him of “reckless and negligent mismanagement and self-serving ambition.”

Siegel fired back, telling the Blast in 2019 that the deal to sell off her 85% stake “cleared up over $20 million in debts Lisa Marie had incurred.” He also claimed it “netted her over $40 million cash and a multimillion-dollar income stream, most of which she managed to squander.”

Lisa Marie, here with Priscilla, lost most of the $100 million inheritance from her father.

Amidst the money woes and custody battle, Lisa Marie was also battling Scientology, according to reporter Tony Ortega, who writes about the church.

He claimed she had a “showdown” with Scientology leader David Miscavige in 2012, while defending Miscavige’s father, Ron, who had defected from the church. It was this argument that led to her supposedly quitting the church, according to Ortega.

“That never happened,” said a Scientology spokesperson.

Lisa Marie then reportedly helped get a story published about Ron’s situation in the Los Angeles Times.

A marriage to Michael Jackson ended, Lisa Marie has said, when he chose drugs over her.

“I really liked her. I thought that she had been brought up in almost impossible conditions,” Ortega said. “Later, she was trying to do something about it. She wanted the world to see, but it’s so sad that so many things seemed to go wrong [for her].”

Still, Ortega said, “I know that I am critical of Scientology, but I’m afraid her biggest problems were her own.”

After her son Benjamin committed suicide in 2020, a grieving Lisa Marie rarely left her home. She skipped the Cannes premiere of “Elvis,” the Baz Luhrmann-directed film biography of her father in 2022, but made it to a special screening at Graceland that June.

Lisa Marie was wed to Nicolas Cage for just a few months.

In a video seen by The Post, she told the crowd: “My life is a little bit kind of down right now. You’re pulling me up. so thank you.

“I’m so proud of this movie, I really am … To be honest, I haven’t really left my house for the last two years unless it has to do with my children, so to get me to leave like California and fly to Memphis and be here, aside from coming to visit my [son’s grave, at Graceland], it’s a big deal.”

Lisa Marie will now be laid to rest at Graceland “next to her beloved son Ben,” a family rep said Friday.

She repeated the sentiment last week at a Graceland event for what would have been her father’s 88th birthday. “I keep saying you’re the only people that can bring me out of my house. I’m not kidding.”
