Redmi Pad Review: Is This Tablet Better Than Realme Pad X, Oppo Pad Air, or an iPad?

Redmi Pad is the company’s entry level tablet that was launched in India last week. This entry-level tablet is competitive when it comes to specifications and pricing. According to the company, the tablet is aimed at entertainment, e-learning, browsing, and gaming. On this week’s episode of the Orbital podcast, we note that not many manufacturers position their tablet offerings in this price segment as gaming tablets. While there are a few options from Oppo, Realme, Samsung, and other brands in this price segment, the Redmi Pad is the latest entrant and is packed with a few notable features.

Is the Redmi Pad the best entry-level tablet you can purchase in India under the Rs. 20,000 mark? Orbital host Akhil Arora talks to Reviewer Pranav Hegde and Consultant Sub Editor Siddhant Chandra about Redmi’s new tablet on this week’s episode of the Gadgets 360 podcast, to understand the device’s specifications and features.

Right off the bat, Pranav warns that you might not want to buy the Redmi Pad in the 3GB RAM configuration, if you want it to be future proof. He says that this advice isn’t specific to the Redmi Pad, adding that you should pick the 4GB RAM variant or the top-tier 6GB model instead.

Equipped with an all-metal body, the Redmi Pad has a premium feel, according to Pranav. He is reviewing the Mint Green colour option. Akhil asks whether it will matter if you’re just going to put a case on the tablet, to which Pranav says that Xiaomi has not yet announced availability for accessories including a folio cover.

Do people still click pictures with their tablets? You may want to pick up your smartphone to click images instead, Pranav says. The cameras are good for video calls, he adds. Redmi has placed the front camera on the right bezel, and he says that Apple should also move its cameras to this location, since most people use their tablets in landscape mode for video calls.

The Redmi Pad sports a 10.61-inch IPS LCD display with a 2K resolution. This is a 10-bit display with a 15:9 aspect ratio, unlike the iPad and other tablets that feature more “traditional” aspect ratios. Many apps are also optimised to make use of the display’s real estate, Pranav says. You get quad speakers on the tablet — they’re not the best, but good enough for the price, according to him.

Redmi Pad First Impressions: The New Affordable Android Tablet Champ?

Under the hood, the Redmi Pad is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, which is found on the Redmi 11 Prime and the Moto G72 — we discussed this phone on last week’s episode. It’s a good budget processor and based on a 6nm process, and it is comparable to the Snapdragon 695 in terms of performance, Pranav says. You can play Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends on the tablet, without any issues, he adds.

Battery life on the newly launched Redmi Pad is good, according to Pranav, who says that the tablet can offer about two or three days of use on a single charge, with a couple of hours of daily usage. It comes with support for 18W fast charging. This is also one of the lightest tablets in the same price segment, weighing in at just 465g. The only device lighter than this in the same price segment is the Oppo Pad Air, as Akhil points out.

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ With 210W Fast Charging Gets 3C Certification, Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro Also Surface: Report

Redmi Note 12 series is expected to debut in China this year and release globally in the first quarter of 2023. At launch, the new lineup from Redmi could include the vanilla Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro, and Redmi Note 12 Pro+. These handsets have reportedly been spotted on the China Compulsory Certification (3C) database. The listing supposedly reveals the fast-charging speeds of the Redmi Note 12 lineup. Notably, the top-of-the-line Redmi Note 12 Pro+ is said to be capable of supporting 210W fast charging.

According to a report by MySmartPrice, the Redmi Note 12 series has surfaced on the 3C database. The vanilla Redmi Note 12 is said to bear the model number 22101316C. Similarly, the Redmi Note 12 Pro and Redmi Note 12 Pro+ seemingly have the model number 22101316UCP and 22101316UC, respectively.

The supposed 3C listings suggest that the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ may come with 210W fast charging support. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 Pro could come with 120W fast charging support and the standard Redmi Note 12 may get support for 67W fast charging.

The Redmi Note 12 series had supposedly received a network access licence in China earlier this year in April. The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and Redmi Note 12 Pro were also spotted on the TENAA database. These listings suggest that they might feature a 6.6-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the Redmi Note 12 Pro is said to feature a 4,980mAh battery, whereas the Note 12 Pro+ may get a 4,300mAh battery.

A recent report has also claimed that the regular Redmi Note 12 may sport a 50-megapixel main camera. The handset is likely to retain the rectangular design of the Redmi 11 with straight edges. These developments could indicate that the launch of this new lineup in China may be imminent.

Redmi Note 11 Pro 2023 Gets FCC, EEC Certifications, Launch Imminent: Report

Redmi Note 11 Pro variant could be unveiled soon by the Chinese smartphone company. The Redmi Note 11 lineup, which included the Redmi Note 11 Pro and the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, debuted in India earlier this year. It appears that the Xiaomi sub-brand will soon launch a refreshed model from this series, believed to be bearing the moniker Redmi Note 11 Pro 2023. This handset has been reportedly spotted on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) database and has received EEC certifications.

According to a recent report by MySmartPrice, a Redmi smartphone bearing the model number 2209116AG has been spotted on the FCC database. The alleged listing suggests that this handset is named as Redmi Note 11 Pro 2023. Furthermore, it mentions that the handset runs on MIUI 13 out-of-the-box, which could be based on Android 12.

In related news, a past XiaomiUI report spotted the Redmi 2209116AG model on the IMEI database. The supposed listing in itself did not reveal any details regarding this handset; however, the report speculates that the Redmi Note 11 Pro 2023 could be a rebadged Redmi Note 10 Pro.

If true, then the Redmi Note 11 Pro 2023 might boast similar specifications to the handset that arrived in India last year. The Redmi Note 10 Pro was priced at Rs. 15,999 for its base 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model at launch. It sports a 6.67-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with 1,200 nits of peak brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G SoC, paired with Adreno 618 GPU. The handset sports a 64-megapixel quad rear camera setup and a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

As of now, Redmi has not officially confirmed the existence of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 2023. However, considering that the handset has been popping up on many certification sites, we might get an official announcement soon.
